    Monte Cristo
    Leang E.

My friend and I came here for brunch and it was just perfect. I got a decaf skim latte and we split the Monte Cristo and the Kickin Chicken Sandwich. Both were delicious, but could easily see why the Monte Cristo was their signature sandwich. I love the creativity in how this was made and it was excellent. I would totally get this again. Service was great and just a great spot to chill and eat.

Home fries- overcooked and hard, no salt pepper nothing. Bacon egg and cheese bagel - bagel is 1 of those really bad store bought bagels in the bread aisle at the grocery store, not even a good store bought bagel. It was edible, the employees were nice and the coffee is pretty good. I would return for coffee, I wouldn't bother buying their food though.

Stayed in a VRBO close by and there was a menu on the fridge for this place. We finally went our final day, wish we had gone earlier! Super friendly service, great food too! The omelette was stuffed with ham and cheese. My husband loved his French toast too. The staff was so nice and helpful. Loved the decor and prayer box too!

Was meeting a friend for a quick lunch at a local place. It's been quite some time since I've been here, probably a few years. Masks are not required since you'll be eating. Everything is sanitized including the silverware that are packaged individually. Since I haven't had the opportunity to travel this past year for my go-to breakfast sandwich, I was excited to have the egg, ham, and cheese and selected the croissant (though there's options for other bread, including gluten free). Yeah, I probably can attribute my Covid weight to eating several croissants per week (gotta make it easy for new years resolutions). My friend who apparently comes here a lot had been texting me about being hungry and looking forward to the grits, ordered this overloaded grits. Gotta admit, it looked like a hearty meal. You simply need to order at the counter and take a seat, several tables including two outdoors. Someone brings your order. He was really nice and came back with several napkins either recognizing that I must be a messy eater or will need it . It was a pretty constant flow of people. They've been known for their coffee, and such (one of last time here was picking up an order for my visiting MIL) though options for breakfast all day of operating hours and lunch. It's been so long since I've eaten out locally, so it was great to see and catch up with neighbors who were working there and those eating there too. It's understandable why a nice flow of people as the prices are very reasonable, and you get some delish dish!

This Bistro has been here for 13 years! We live 2 miles away and didn't know they were here, but what a well kept secret. Their food is very good and the service is outstanding. They serve breakfast and lunch every day and are closed on Sundays. We liked the flexibility of their menu, and the food was cooked exactly as ordered. They even will toast your muffin if you would like - Pretty cool!! I also liked the Christian music played in the background as we ate. If you are looking for a quiet place to have a tasty breakfast or lunch and like friendly people who care about their customers, I'd highly recommend the Java Bistro at 5 Forks!

Cool little breakfast place in Five Forks. Fantastic breakfast menu with friendly service minded staff. Everybody smiles here. Bagels were close to New York. Sausage patties more like what grandma made, than the flavorless slabs you get in places like IHOP. Can't go wrong with the Lattes. Looking forward to returning for lunch.

Come on back to the back to place your order.

I was back in SC for a family illness/death visit, and had lots of errands to run in order to help the family prepare for the funeral. I made a quick visit to Java Bistro to pick up an espresso drink. I always have a somewhat negative reaction when I see that I have to walk to the back of an establishment to be served. It just feels funky. Once at the back, I ordered a cappuccino, asking if they had coconut milk? No. Almond milk? No. Just soy milk. So, okay, I went with soy milk, because I am lactose intolerant. The cappuccino was fine. I probably should have been specific and requested a bold espresso, but, to me, espresso by definition means you want something strong. Yes? I would definitely return to order again, as I enjoy supporting small businesses.

BLT sandwich with fries was AMAZING

We loved our visit to Java Bistro! The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is super friendly. Not to mention they have the best BLT, French fries, and vanilla latte I've ever had! This is definitely a must visit when in Greenville!

The flavor was ok, but it was a thin bowl of broth rather than a creamy textural soup that I expected in a vichyssoise. It was also served with table spoons, not soup spoons, which made it difficult to eat (maybe a straw would have been better). My husband had the steak, which was perfectly cooked. I ordered the pasta bourguignon. If it hadn't been listed on the menu, I wouldn't have known there was beef in the pasta. I saw and tasted none. Cocktails were delicious and well crafted. The ambience pleasant as we walked in, and it wasn't too crowded yet as we had an early reservation. However we were seated in the back, in an alcove with 3 tables in it. The alcove was like an echo chamber. With only one couple near us and a half full restaurant, all the sounds were so enhanced in the alcove that we could barely hear each other. That area really needs curtains or fabric on the walls to dampen the sound effects. It was really unpleasant. Not writing Rotie off. Other members of my party enjoyed their entrees, particularly the salmon. I may have just chosen poorly that night.

The only thing that I would change is the waiting area and being limited to only checking in through their tablet. There should be a way to check in without confirming at the tablet, to which there's always a crowd in front of.

Menu was very interested and not your standard breakfast place menu. I was a little suspect because of the poor customer service reviews but all food ones were good. Our friend called in for a call in reservation and we were seated with in 5 minutes eventhough the restaurant was packed. The server came to the table to take our drink order, came back with our drinks and took our food order. The food order came out fast. The "works" omlet and a side order of French Toast. The only thing missing from the "works" was the kitchen sink. Cheese, onions, sausage, tomatos and mushrooms and their fired, cubed potatoes were amazing. The French/Texas toast was great. Overall not what I was hoping for…read more Some of my colleagues suggested trying first watch for breakfast, so I decided to try it today. They sat me down in a corner and no one wanted to wait on me.. I have no idea who my waitress should have been. After 10+ minutes of waiting, the person who seated me asked if I had been helped, I said no, so then he took my order, but I don't think that was his job. On the menu, the regular drinks like orange juice, didn't show a price. This seemed strange to me; I am pretty used to being charged for an OJ, but it was my first time here so I asked if this was included in the meal (that would have been a nice surprise). He said no. I asked if it was free, and he said no, it costs money. I asked how do I know how much it costs, because there was absolutely NO price anywhere on either side for the cost of orange juice. He said it's a hidden charge that they will charge in their computer system...... That's bullshit at a fundamental level! I asked how much, he quoted me a price without checking the computer, but how do I know? It's not listed on the menu. Is that the price for the small OJ or a large? How do I know? How can I make sure they're not overcharging me? That's the whole point of a MENU, to list what they sell and for how much, so you can decide without having to waste the waiters time asking the price of each item. I really don't like this! I should of listened to my inner voice that said just walk away now. Foolisly, the only reason I stayed was because of the recommendation by my colleagues. Needless to say, I didn't get an OJ because I had no way of verifying the price. I ordered a water. I would have enjoyed an orange juice with my breakfast. Maybe I should have ordered it and then told them I'll pay the price on the menu.... After about another 10+ minutes of waiting, no water was brought out. Then a lady came out and asked if I had been helped, I said yes but I don't think it was his job to take my order, so she said she would look into it and brought out a water a few minutes later. The sad part was, the place was not very busy.... Just a slow Tuesday around 10am. When the food finally came out by ANOTHER waitress who I never saw before, I was a little sad because the toast was loaded with way too much butter. The menu didn't say anything about butter, nor did the waiter... I scraped off as much as I could, but the damage had already been done. Dam, am I responsible for telling them everything I don't want on toast that could possibly be put on toast? The bacon was okay tasting but overly salty. The eggs were the opposite, pretty bland without any salt. What they did add to the eggs appeared to be finely chopped scallions. I don't enjoy the taste of scallions on my scrambled eggs. It's a bad combination for me. The fruit was okay, but a very small portion. Overall a lackluster tasting breakfast, very poor service, and the menu that I fundamentally disagree with. For these reasons I give it the lowest rating possible. I am thankful I tried it so I could see what my colleagues were talking about, but now I know. I probably won't return ever again to any first watch.

They have multiple doors to enter which was confusing, so I had to double back to the counter where you actually had to order drinks. The interiors are spacious. inviting, and modern, as evidenced by the nearly 30 people I saw camped out at tables working away at their laptops or holding video conferences. They also have a nice outdoor patio space as well. I went with an order of a half sweet iced mocha latte. There's an additional charge for any added flavoring, so the drink set me back over $7 (before any tip). While I don't mind paying a bit extra for a great drink, I felt it was very average in taste and probably would have received better from a chain coffee shop. Service from the staff was friendly. I felt this is one of those more modern workspace coffee shops that's lost in a bit of an identity crisis with some market and prepared food items. Perhaps I'm just not their target clientele given they seem to have a loyal following, but felt Chestnut Coffee House was a pretty average and slightly overpriced drink experience for me.
