Cute spot for an afternoon pick me up! My hubby wanted to try paru matcha so we came here and the matcha latte was quite good! I also had their avocado toast and it was soo light, healthy, and delicious! Flavor profile was very balanced and perfect for an afternoon snack. Service was great too - we asked someone if they could clear our table and it was done for us within a few seconds! Would stop by again the next time we're in SD!

Service was kind and quick. Iced honey vanilla latte is a star. Love their straws!! Would love to return and try their other plentiful options!

I ordered online for pickup and waited around 20 minutes, which honestly just seems faster to order in person rather than online. I got the cookie butter latte and it looked way better than it tasted. The cookie butter crumbles on top definitely helped, but overall the drink felt kind of bland and way too milky. I was expecting a stronger coffee flavor and a little more sweetness from the cookie butter. Not bad, just didn't really live up to the hype for me. As far as the Chunky Monkey smoothie it was delicious!

Java Earth is one of my favorite coffee shops in SD!! Both locations are near the beach so what's not to love?! We ordered the new cookie butter latte, banana matchas (1 hot, 1 iced,) and the veggie bagel. You never know if cafes will have good quality food, but I've never ordered anything I don't like! This bagel was delicious, and I've also tried the breakfast burrito which is amazing. Service was great and so speedy!

I wanted to go to Paru for a matcha latte, however when I got there a worker informed me that they just closed the cafe portion of the store permanently. However, she mentioned that this cafe served Paru matcha which is why I wanted to try it here. That was a big mistake though since the matcha here was very disappointing. I ordered the banana cream top matcha with oat milk and it was bad. The drink was so milky and tasted like matcha flavored oat milk. The cream top was a thin layer and it tasted so artificial. This was not worth the $8 spent on this drink. Would not recommend.

really enjoyed this spot! at 8:30 it was pretty steady but we found a place to wait in their ample outdoor seating. the area is super cute and their interior is decorated nicely. i like that they offer some chips and other miscellaneous drinks alongside their sizeable menu. i got their matcha latte w oatmilk after i saw that they offered paru matcha and was pleasantly surprised! it had perfect ratios and was not milky at all. the matcha taste was very good. as someone who loves sweets i could have gotten a bittttttt more sweetener, but it was probably a good standard sweetness for most. my boyfriend's honey vanilla latte was also very good, a bit too sweet but tasted great! we also got a hot black coffee which was good, but my friend's biscoff latte was lacking in biscoff flavor by a lot. it was also less sweet than my bfs honey one, which we were not expecting. otherwise, all the food we got was great! i ended up eating my breakfast burrito at the beach 20 mins after we ordered, but it was still sooooo good. super balanced and for $12 it was a great size for me and my bf to split. would love to come back here!

I've only been to try the cookie butter latte and it was okay. i do like that you get the taste of the coffee more than the sweetness.

I consider my self a matcha purist and don't usually like sweetened/flavored matcha drinks. But, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the pumpkin cream top goes with a matcha latte. The drink was executed perfectly and the matcha part itself wasn't pre sweetened so mixing in the pumpkin cream didn't make it cloyingly sweet. Shout out to the friendly staff who accommodated my custom requests! We had a perfect start to our day thanks to Java Earth!

The matcha latte is so good that you need to try it out at this place. The place is at a walking distance to La Jolla beach.

Food/Coffee: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance: 8/10 Solid cafe. What I liked about this cafe was that it's in downtown la jolla but in a slightly off side of the super busy brunch spots that there was a good amount of parking and a relaxing vibe to the place. Coffee and matcha are solid. Will be coming back.

My sister came along with me to San Diego for work from Irvine, and I give her the credit for finding this place. WOW! This place blew me away. Our order: two 20 oz matcha lattes - 10/10 thank you so much for putting the right amount of ice - not too much!! Our matcha lattes did not feel diluted at all. The additional $0.50 we paid for the extra 4 oz was well worth it. Mediterranean bowl - 10/10, what a delicious combination of ingredients! I want to make this at home as a pick me up. It reminded me of the best parts of pesto pasta but without any pasta! Soy Chorizo burrito - 10/10 we were told that the so Cal burrito is also a popular menu item. The personal preference of our cashier was the soy chorizo burrito and it did not fail!! The two are essentially the same except the type of meat (for the most part, so we're told hahaha) What drew us to this place has been the featuring of Parutea's matcha. The matcha quality truly is amazing. It's delicious. The plating was crisp and clean - everything about the restaurant was seamlessly put together. It was a haven for good food and a way to start the morning peacefully! There's a good number of people trickling in as soon as the restaurant opened. The people here are kind, present, and respectful. I'm so grateful for you all. They offer milk alternatives including pistachio milk! The food is cooked to just the right temperature where the flavors stand out because of the temperature at which the food is presented. Next time - I can't wait to try the pastries God bless you all!

The new sandwich was SO good i picked sourdough between sourdough and bagel and it was really good! the flavor of the bread itself!!!! My boyfriend got a latte and i got the happy matcha he said it was a decent latte and i thought the happy matcha was just okay. I couldn't really taste the matcha flavor. plenty of parking when we went near opening

Small & cute coffee shop. Food and drinks. Perfect to grab and go or sit inside/outside and enjoy there. Kind and quickly moving baristas. Visited here from NorCal and I would definitely recommend

I believe there is wifi but it is really small inside. I don't know if there are outlets. It's more a place to grab your stiff and sit outside on the shared patio with more tables.

Everything in the pastry case looked so good it was genuinely hard to choose. All the pastries were super well balanced flavor-wise, and the pastry itself was buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. The croissant especially was sooo buttery and crisp on the outside while soft inside with the perfect amount of filling. The coffee was also rich, creamy, and delicious, and everything came out surprisingly fast even though it was pretty busy. Not a ton of seating inside and it definitely gets PACKED on weekends, but we managed to snag a little table on the back patio which made it such a cute spot to sit and catch up. Overall such a perfect weekend brunch/coffee date spot. Will definitely be back to try more pastries because I was eyeing basically everything behind the counter.

If you have the time to stick around though, this place is well worth it and the line moves just fine. Every single thing was made with love and delicious - this cost ~$65. For the European girly in me, the nutellino was pure comfort, especially on a cold day. I highly recommend this cafe & will be back! :-)

I'm not totally sure about outlet availability, but it's still a great place to settle in and get some work done. Aloha Yelpers,…read more Reviews can be subjective and often just reflect how we felt in the moment--sometimes good, sometimes bad. As a business owner and someone who frequents a lot of establishments around the world, I'm always paying extra attention to how different brands and teams operate. After being a regular at Parakeet for the last 6 years, I felt inclined to finally write a review, based purely on appreciation for the all-star team at this location (Kayla, Janelle, Neda, Hailey, Regina, Michelle, Calvin, and all the cooks crushing it in the kitchen daily) and everything they bring to the community. BIG VIBES & Customer Experience Biggest one on the checklist. The energy is always on point from the second I walk in to the second I leave. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming, authentic, and genuinely cares about making the experience top-tier. Also worth noting, they're up at 5 AM to open at 7 AM... which is already heroic. On top of that, this location gets its fair share of entitled, unfriendly, and straight-up rude customers (I've seen it firsthand on the daily). Even then, the ladies and Calvin handle it with patience, professionalism, and still keep the good energy going. That shit is not easy. Attention to Detail Regina and Hailey run a tight operation day to day. Their attention to detail and consistency is honestly unmatched. I've been to plenty of spots around the neighborhood, and no one has it as dialed in as they do. They are also better dressed than other managers in the biz. BIG STYLE POINTS Problem Solving I've watched this team navigate everything--broken equipment, unhappy customers, clogged toilets (lol), bad weather, and difficult delivery drivers yelling at them through Google Translate. And they handle it all without missing a beat and staying composed. Meanwhile, I've seen other places completely implode in similar situations--blaming each other or arguing instead of solving the problem. Not the case here. Always solution-oriented. Extra props to Janelle for unclogging the toilet and Kayla for chasing a grasshopper out the door when it jumped on a table. Yessahhh Consistency Food and drinks are always consistent--fresh, well-seasoned, proper temp, and clean presentation. The cooks are back there working hard but still somehow having a good time while pushing out orders for both dine-in and delivery. The girls and Calvin on bar are always crushing it. Espresso is never burnt, matcha is smooth (no clumpy, low-tier stuff), and the latte art is always on point. Shoutout to Neda, Hailey, Regina, and Calvin for keeping things fast and high quality. Cleanliness Everything is always clean, smells good, and actually put away where it belongs. No shakshuka stains on tables, no scone crumbs everywhere, no sticky coffee floors, no overflowing trash cans--things that, somehow, have become the norm at other nearby spots. All in all, I never leave reviews, so the fact that I'm writing this says something lol. Hopefully whoever reads this--regulars, upper management, or owners--recognizes that this all-star team is what makes this Parakeet location special, and a big reason it continues to bring GREAT VIBES to LJ LET'S GET THEM A PAY RAISE!! What do you know I was able to find parking in La Jolla easily. It just so happened I turned on Fay Street which is another busy street in La Jolla, and someone was backing out of their parking spot, so it was meant to be. I walked a short distance to Kline street which was the cross street of where "Blue Whale" is located. At first, I felt like I was not going to try it here because of the line of people and people everywhere outside and a long line inside the place. I decided to wait because I did not know when I would be back. When walking in, the vibe is cute, casual, and beach themed. The music is energizing and happy too. I placed my order with a friendly cashier and told her I wanted it to go because all the tables outside and inside were filled. But, someone was getting up from their table and I quickly walked over to snag the table inside. I had a cute, small table up against a window. Again, another sign I should try it. I ordered a sugar-free latte and avocado toast with an egg on top for added protein. Guess what, my food arrived in five minutes. Shannon, the manager brought it to me. I was so impressed how fast the service was and the friendliness here being so busy! She runs this place so professionally and efficiently. She is super friendly also! The rest of the staff the cashier, waitresses and waiters were also accommodating, friendly, and helpful too! Shoutout and Kudos to the chefs who create such deliciousness with the food. And, kudos to the baristas also who make such flavorful drinks. You all ROCK! The avocado toast with egg was incredible! So artistic with the presentation and the flavor was pit of this world DIVINE! The coffee was superb! I i understand the hype here! They deserve more than 5 stars! Whether you are a local or visitor, "Blue Whale" is a must! Even if you end up getting through the line to order, there doesn't seem to be a guarantee that there will be a table for you as seating was relatively limited. I ended up getting a to-go order since I didn't want to wait in line, but was a bit disappointed in the food given the hype. The California burrito was good but could have been more flavorful and the fries could've been crispier, and the mango sticky rice matcha was great in concept but the matcha flavor could've been stronger in execution.
