Easy to find. Small parking lot, but was able to snag a spot. Customer service is super helpful and great with the recommendations. They took time to go through the most popular drinks. Vibe is super cute with plenty of seating inside and outside. Nice place to come work and enjoy a light breakfast. Menu looked good. I ordered a large pistachio hot coffee and it was okay! I love that they use pistachio milk. Large comes with 2 shots of espresso so I added an extra shot, but couldn't taste any espresso. That was disappointing it basically tasted like warm milk. I think I would come back to give the iced honey vanilla latte a try, but I'd probably want 4 shots total. Only bummer is deciding if I want to spend $9-$10 on a coffee that might just taste okay. read more

The coffee is like very sweet. but had a strange interaction that kind of killed the vibe. I asked what beans they use (pretty standard coffee question), and was told they're "not allowed" to share that information. That felt odd, especially considering they sell bags of beans right there in the shop. It came off more dismissive and rude than informative. Not a huge deal, but customer experience matters and this one just felt unnecessarily awkward. Hopefully it was just an off moment read more

Cute spot for an afternoon pick me up! My hubby wanted to try paru matcha so we came here and the matcha latte was quite good! I also had their avocado toast and it was soo light, healthy, and delicious! Flavor profile was very balanced and perfect for an afternoon snack. Service was great too - we asked someone if they could clear our table and it was done for us within a few seconds! Would stop by again the next time we're in SD! read more

I ordered online for pickup and waited around 20 minutes, which honestly just seems faster to order in person rather than online. I got the cookie butter latte and it looked way better than it tasted. The cookie butter crumbles on top definitely helped, but overall the drink felt kind of bland and way too milky. I was expecting a stronger coffee flavor and a little more sweetness from the cookie butter. Not bad, just didn't really live up to the hype for me. Java Earth is one of my favorite coffee shops in SD!! Both locations are near the beach so what's not to love?! We ordered the new cookie butter latte, banana matchas (1 hot, 1 iced,) and the veggie bagel. You never know if cafes will have good quality food, but I've never ordered anything I don't like! This bagel was delicious, and I've also tried the breakfast burrito which is amazing. Service was great and so speedy! read more

I wanted to go to Paru for a matcha latte, however when I got there a worker informed me that they just closed the cafe portion of the store permanently. However, she mentioned that this cafe served Paru matcha which is why I wanted to try it here. That was a big mistake though since the matcha here was very disappointing. I ordered the banana cream top matcha with oat milk and it was bad. The drink was so milky and tasted like matcha flavored oat milk. The cream top was a thin layer and it tasted so artificial. This was not worth the $8 spent on this drink. Would not recommend. read more

really enjoyed this spot! at 8:30 it was pretty steady but we found a place to wait in their ample outdoor seating. the area is super cute and their interior is decorated nicely. i like that they offer some chips and other miscellaneous drinks alongside their sizeable menu. i got their matcha latte w oatmilk after i saw that they offered paru matcha and was pleasantly surprised! it had perfect ratios and was not milky at all. the matcha taste was very good. as someone who loves sweets i could have gotten a bittttttt more sweetener, but it was probably a good standard sweetness for most. my boyfriend's honey vanilla latte was also very good, a bit too sweet but tasted great! we also got a hot black coffee which was good, but my friend's biscoff latte was lacking in biscoff flavor by a lot. it was also less sweet than my bfs honey one, which we were not expecting. otherwise, all the food we got was great! i ended up eating my breakfast burrito at the beach 20 mins after we ordered, but it was still sooooo good. super balanced and for $12 it was a great size for me and my bf to split. would love to come back here! read more

I consider my self a matcha purist and don't usually like sweetened/flavored matcha drinks. But, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the pumpkin cream top goes with a matcha latte. The drink was executed perfectly and the matcha part itself wasn't pre sweetened so mixing in the pumpkin cream didn't make it cloyingly sweet. Shout out to the friendly staff who accommodated my custom requests! We had a perfect start to our day thanks to Java Earth! read more

I shouldn't be telling you this, but I think the secret is already out. The banana bread is off the chain. It appears to sell fast, and for good reason. Moist and delicious. I would go out of my way here just for this. The acai bowl is also generously portioned and filling. The drip coffee is meh, but the specialty coffees are great. The service is fast and friendly. The place is tight and cozy. Only about 5 small tables with an indoor seating capacity of maybe 12-15 people. They have 1 table outdoors and a bench inside where you can wait until a table opens. read more

My sister came along with me to San Diego for work from Irvine, and I give her the credit for finding this place. WOW! This place blew me away. Our order: two 20 oz matcha lattes - 10/10 thank you so much for putting the right amount of ice - not too much!! Our matcha lattes did not feel diluted at all. The additional $0.50 we paid for the extra 4 oz was well worth it. Mediterranean bowl - 10/10, what a delicious combination of ingredients! I want to make this at home as a pick me up. It reminded me of the best parts of pesto pasta but without any pasta! Soy Chorizo burrito - 10/10 we were told that the so Cal burrito is also a popular menu item. The personal preference of our cashier was the soy chorizo burrito and it did not fail!! The two are essentially the same except the type of meat (for the most part, so we're told hahaha) What drew us to this place has been the featuring of Parutea's matcha. The matcha quality truly is amazing. It's delicious. The plating was crisp and clean - everything about the restaurant was seamlessly put together. It was a haven for good food and a way to start the morning peacefully! There's a good number of people trickling in as soon as the restaurant opened. The people here are kind, present, and respectful. I'm so grateful for you all. They offer milk alternatives including pistachio milk! The food is cooked to just the right temperature where the flavors stand out because of the temperature at which the food is presented. Came back for their banana cream drinks since my sister is obsessed with the banana cream matcha. I ordered an iced latte with banana cream and in hindsight, I should've added vanilla syrup too since I like my drinks sweet lol. The banana cream was fluffy, sweet and had a good banana flavor. I wish there was more in my drink! Since my drink wasn't sweet enough, I added sweetener and it got better. Service is quick and nice! read more

Came back here after seeing they have a new Banana cream top matcha for the summer and it did not disappoint! I really enjoyed it, you could taste the matcha flavor (and they get their matcha from Paru!), and it wasn't overpowered by the banana cream top. Sweetness was a good level. I ordered the Happy Matcha, which was a matcha with brown sugar and caramel and a bit pricey in my opinion at $7+. I have had matcha at different places and this one just did not taste as good. Very sweet and barely any matcha taste. Tasted more like culinary than ceremonial. The color was also a little off at a very light green. Possible if I get a chance to visit again maybe trying their matcha by itself with no flavor or a coffee. Otherwise, service was fast and was a cute place to work in. read more

This is my second time coming here, and I definitely need to come more often because the coffee is phenomenal. I ordered the seasonal pumpkin cream top latte and it was delicious. The ratio of espresso to milk was to my liking, not too milky and the pumpkin flavor shone through. I also enjoyed the cream top, just wish there was more of it. My group wanted to try something new as we're not from SD and got six drinks from this location. Let me tell you, the coffee is terrible. The espresso is overly acidic, drinks taste water downed even if you have them right away, & there's hardly any flavor to their flavored lattes and matcha. The baristas also seemed to have a problem with us while we were waiting for our drinks. Every time we looked up from our conversations we were being met with stares and were given attitude as well. read more

Seriously one of the cutest coffee shops! Located in central downtown La Jolla but around the corner from the main strip so it isn't too chaotic. There are a few parking spots in front which is nice or street parking seemed easy. There is a cute little patio out front with plenty of seating plus a few seats inside. It has a very modern coastal vibe. Overall just a really aesthetic spot. Their coffee and food is also surprisingly good - I tried their seasonal Dirty Pumpkin Chai with a breakfast burrito and was super happy with my choices. Their overnight oats and egg sandwiches also looked really tasty! I ordered online ahead of time and it was ready when I arrived. They have another location in PB as well which I'll have to try out. What a cool surprise to find this cute coffee shop (with no laptop campers!) in downtown La Jolla yesterday. After my clinical trial visit I always get money and while I love to help science, I love even more to spend the cash on coffee and pastries:). The place is so pristine, clear, white, small yet comfortable inside and outside there are tables and super pleasant with the sun shining. Loved my coffee, my chorizo and cheese croissant (first time having that type), the conversation with Mexican visitors next table and the vibe. Came across this spot when I started a clinical internship nearby. This very quickly became my go to coffee spot even though there are at least 5 others to choose from not far off. The coffee is beautifully balanced and the food is amazing every time. The gluten free bagels here are by far the best I've ever had and I've had a few over the past 5 years. Since the internship ended I went back to my daily living closer to SDSU, I don't frequent the area as much but I make intentional trips to Java Earth just for the great coffee and even more amazing food. 10/10 would recommend this place, and do! read more

First time here. Ordered an ICED LATTE W PISTACHIO MILK... solid, just solid. The coffee has so much depth, richness and flavor. As the depth and richness increases so does the smoothness. The pistachio milk gives it a nice kiss. You taste the pistachio milk but it's not overbearing to the coffee. Doesn't cross boundaries. Service was nice and the ambiance is super chill. Stopped by for a matcha and a bite to eat and both were amazing! I ordered the wellness bowl and a regular matcha; the bowl was super flavorful while still being healthy! This is a very nice coffee shop and cafe. I stopped for a cortado with whole milk and also had a cinnamon morning bun. The cortado was pretty good, especially up front, but towards the the end it had a little harshness that I did not care for. The morning bun or sugar bun as the young barista referred to it was good. A little heaving on the sugar and more on the cinnamon would of been nicer. The coffee shop has inside and outside seating. Honestly the best coffee in the cove, and I've tried quite a few places around the area. My go to is the honey vanilla latte (hot), and I'm normally a mocha only fan. Everyone there is nice and they have a large patio with tables and chairs, very dog friendly too. I got the banana bread once and it was very good as well. read more

I got the freshly squeezed orange juice too, and it tasted really fresh. It was a little sour though.

They have a huge selection of pastries and food options, plus plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great spot to hang out or get some work done! I tried the lavender latte, which was a little too milky for my taste and I couldn't taste much of the coffee. My friend got the vanilla latte and enjoyed it more, and her toast was really yummy. They also have a bathroom in the back, which is always a nice bonus. Parking can be a little tricky since it's La Jolla, but honestly much easier than the main beach area. Overall, a really cute spot with a relaxing atmosphere. I'd definitely come back to enjoy the space and try more of their menu!

Chef Maeve Rochford, the owner of Sugar & Scribe won Season 2 of Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship. The restaurant wasn't packed with customers but they were definitely short staffed or something because there were two couples sitting next to us who were also waiting for their food. One couple was ready to leave when their food came out at that exact moment. The servers did apologize and told us that they were having issues with the kitchen. They also offered us all free orange juice. However, if they knew they were having issues with the kitchen then they should've told us earlier before we got seated so people could go elsewhere rather than waiting an hour for their food. Overall, service here was very poor. In terms of food, it was unfortunately pretty good but not worth the wait. I really liked the simple toast with matcha cream on top as well as the curry hamburg. My friend ordered the shakshuka (not pictured because it came last and everyone just wanted to eat at that point) which was also pretty good. For the avocado toast, the toast was too hard so I wouldn't recommend it. We also ordered a yuzu and matcha yuzu mimosa. Both tasted like yuzu. The matcha yuzu one was basically a green yuzu mimosa. They have a vero water purification system so their water was really good lol.
