The consistent good service keeps me coming back. I usually avoid drive in's at all cost, but enjoy getting my coffee at this tiny shack before jumping on the freeway. This was my first time trying Java Jo's. It was good coffee, but the customer service was uncomfortable. The guy taking my order was rude and unfriendly to begin with. Then, after he brings me back my card he says, 'let me know if you wanna leave a tip', and then just stared at me. I said yeah, ok, but was confused. He then brought me my coffee. I said thank you and he told me again, 'let me know if you want to leave a tip.' And then just stared at me. Again, I said, Ok yeah thanks. I was waiting for him to give me a receipt to sign and write a tip or a tablet or something. I didn't have any cash to just hand him a few dollars. He then said, 'or not.' and sneered and walked away. I always leave tips when I get coffee. But I've never had someone give me coffee in a drive thru and then stare at me in an attempt to shame me into tipping. At the end of the day, tips are optional, and Java Jos might want to remind their employees of that. I won't be going back. read more

Excellent drive-thru coffee. Busy between 7-9 but the line moves quickly. The baristas are always friendly. The espresso is good, as are the flavored coffee drinks. Cheaper and better than Starbucks, though that's not saying much. read more

I always get the frozen mocha. It's not bitter, with a good sweet flavor. The customer service is great. Best coffee shop around.

I used to frequent the Java Jo's on 13th E, but ever since I moved, the Avenues location has just been more convenient. I only ever get one drink at Java Jo's - the Ivory Mocha with low fat milk, light ice. There are a couple baristas here who know my drink order and make it good consistently (Side-bar, service here is great! They are always friendly, and run out to your car if you end up in that 2nd lane). I don't know if they have been hiring/training recently, but the consistency has definitely gone down. One time, my drink was so sweet I almost gagged, and had to water it down with coffee when I got to work - coffee that I had to PAY FOR, UGH. Another time, my drink came and I swear it was all milk. The color usually looks like a toasted graham cracker, but instead came out looking like beige cardstock. The problem with a drive-through place is that by the time I get to sip my drink, I'm already a couple blocks down, booking it to work. U-turning at that point and forcing the poor noob to fix my drink would be just too much work. I just wish they would be able to set down standards for anyone new they hired - it's been to the point where I'm kind of scared to taste my drink because I'm already wondering which barista made it. Perhaps my favorite thing about The Kramer (the surgary, delicious drink I get every time I stop by Java Jo's) is the chocolate covered coffee bean they put on the lid of the drink they hand me. This place for some reason is very arrogant for bleh coffee. I have given them chance after chance, and on my last visit, there was a bad taste left in my mouth, but it wasn't the coffee. I used the walk up and had my dog on a leash with me, it was early they were busy, there wasn't anywhere to leash up my fury friend. My dog being a dog jumped up and had his paws resting at the walk up window, when the snarky barista came up to the window to take my order. He sort of walked away while I was ordering, a girl came to the window and gave my friend a treat, placing it on the counter my dog jumped up to get his bone. Just then the snarky barista came back and barked at me to get my dogs paws off the counter, to my reply I said that he was just given a treat. His reply was, "Well next time, we'll put it on the ground." He was so rude, that my reply was what a, dick. I left without paying and without my coffee, I will never be back! Word of advice Java Jo's your coffee is amateur, your service terrible, the only thing you have going is location. You should try to be good at, at least one of these qualities! read more

Excellent coffee with friendly staff. This was a great find while vacationing in SLC.

This place gets the job done. It's a cute little drive through that moves fairly quickly when not slammed with customers getting their morning cup of joe. I never really go for the "fancy stuff," but their ice coffee is pretty good. Ive also had the cappuccino. I feel like their coffee has a bolder taste than regular house blends. My boyfriend swears by their mocha however it's just too sweet for my taste. I love the little chocolate covered coffee bean they give you on top of your cup. Either way, nothing super special about this place. I rather go somewhere with seating but that's just me. read more

Really nice staff. I don't know how they do it they are always swamped but the orders come out so fast and perfect. Plus they'll remember your name. They talk to you like they've known you forever. This company has become my favorite. Only bad thing I can say is I wish they're. Alert made gluten free muffins or pastries but it's irrelevant when you taste their coffee and meet their staff. This place is great if you're limited on time. They have a small pop out store near my house that I go to. I really enjoy chai and am very particular about whether they use good or meh ingredients. Stumbled across this place because I was trying to find Red Butte Creek and instead it said that this place was over Red Butte Creek. I didn't mind the fact that we got lost because this place is pretty neat! The employees were very kind and helpful and I ended up getting a salted something... I forget the name. I have been a frequent Java Jo's customer for the last 20 years. Recently though they have increased their prices to near Starbucks level and they also are charging for extra shots in larger sized drinks that at other local coffee shops/drive thru's come standard with that size ( I mean a double shot 16 ounce shouldn't be charged extra for that second shot, and at $4.17 for the single shot who do they think they are?). I have started going the little extra out of my way to visit other local coffee shops that are not just trying to make a quick buck. read more

Me likey! Java Jo's has the best coffee in town. My lady friend, who is from out of the state, didn't believe me when I told her how great it was. Now that she lives here, we get one every morning and two a day when possible. It's a sick obsession and will probably drive me to the poor house, but I will be happy on my way there. I was skeptical of Java Jo's at first. I don't know why. Probably just because I didn't think something so delicious could come out of a place so tiny. I was wrong. Dead wrong! What really made me want to write a review was, because of what happened earlier today; a friend and I went to the Java Jo's on 9th East across from Wal-Mart. A newer employee, "Emma", had only seen us ONE time before... and guess what? She remembered what we ordered. She remembered our freaking orders...after seeing us ONE TIME!!! OMG. Amazing. Like everything else in Salt Lake, it's a clustered mess of unorganized staff and bad service...

First and foremost, they've got good coffee. Secondly, the staff is very polite and quick. They do get a little edgy if you take time in ordering or paying but one would expect that in a drive-thru place. There are 2-3 more fancier coffee places in the avenues if you want to indulge yourself but if you want good, quick coffee which will switch your brain back on, then Java Jo's is the place. read more

Very smooth and mellow coffee with no bitterness plus very friendly service. I've been a regular for years and they know what I want as I am driving up and have it ready in no time. I go to the Java Joe's in Cottonwood Heights. The drinks are consistently most excellent!!! I have friends and relatives from out-of-state who come to Utah more for Java Joe's drinks/coffee than for friends and relatives. Go to Jack Mormon Coffee 2 blocks up the road. Although you have to get out of the car, it's well worth it for higher quality coffee and service. This Java Joe's selectively decides what cars to help first (eg, get in the outside lane if you want faster service). read more

The coffee is good but the last two times I have drivin in there were 3 cars in the first lane so I moved to the next lane and moved forward to the sign... I sat.... sat... they served only the cars in the first line.. car 4, car 5... I sit there. If they are going to have multiple lines and can't serve them, they should put a cone in the alternate lines so we know if they are going to serve or not. I couldn't back up into the line so i left. The coffee drinks are excellent. My problem with this business is the way customers are treated as just another car to serve. This came home to me the other day after I stopped by Starbucks and could contrast how they treat me as opposed to Java Jo's. I had been going to Java Jo's for over two years on a near daily basis, seeing the same employees each morning at 8 AM. You would think that, after two years of daily contact, they could remember something about me (e.g., my name, my drink, or the fact that I always order it with "bean, sleeve, no straw"). But no, they still have to ask me every day what I want, how I want it, and are still clueless as to my name. During this same two year time frame, I would stop by my previous regular Starbucks probably once every couple of weeks. They always still knew my name and favorite drink. Finally, one day, it dawned on me, "Why in the world am I continuing to give my money to a business with employees as obtuse as Java Jo's." I decided to return to where I'm viewed as a person with an identity instead of as a car with a fungible person inside. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Java Joe's for 7 years. However since I've moved to the avenues from Cottonwood Heights I have had a vastly different experience at the Java Joe's on 1st avenue and E street than I have at the one in Cottonwood Heights. The two stores are like night and day. The service you can expect at the Avenues location is based on who's working at the time and their mood. Generally that mood is projected onto the customer with rolling eyes, childish attitude, and comments swimming with sarcasm. I would say they get your drink order right 20% of the time. And they burn your milk if you're getting a hot drink 85% of the time. There is no consistency, no friendliness, and absolutely no pride in what they do. Today was the last straw for me. I had the audacity to ask if they remembered my syrup that I had requested, because they have forgot about it the last 4 times, and I was answered with blatant eye rolling and a snotty attitude. I will not return to the Java Joe's on E street. They are horrible. read more
