I have to say my favorite is now the lasagna with the bolognese sauce on top. My bestie calls it "a hug on a plate". The service staff is always warm and welcoming - Brian, Jessie and Michael are always making sure everything is just right. There are a few tables outside the restaurant that are slanted on a small hill and a platform with a few tables on the street. We were seated on a table on the hill and had to be mindful of fluids/sauces filled to the brim. Blankets are also provided on each chair in case it gets breezy outside. The menu is set daily, so the dishes can vary from what's shown in previous photos. After ordering, it took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. The summer vegetable hash comes with beans, squash, tomatoes, corn, carrots, peppers and eggs. I typically associate hash with potatoes, but surprisingly this dish does not come with potatoes. The dish was fairly mild, with most of the flavor coming from the individual vegetables. It's definitely a lighter, healthier take on hash and would be a good option if you're looking for something with more vegetables. The plow comes with eggs, lemon ricotta pancakes, potatoes and choice of meat. The lemon riccota pancakes were the star of the dish- light, fluffy and not too sweet. The potatoes were crispy. The steak + eggs was a hearty option. The steak was tender and juicy and went well with the chermoula sauce. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this restaurant at least once, but hesistant to come back because of the long wait and value of each plate.

Broooo, I used to walk past Java on Ocean Coffee House all the time when I was younger thinking "yeah this place look expensive, I KNOW they don't want my broke self in there." Whole time I was just intimidating myself for no reason. Finally took a leap of faith and went in one day and the barista was literally so sweet and welcoming. Like not fake nice either -- actual warm energy. Made me feel like I belonged there fr. Now I be getting my lil soy latte on the regular. Drink be costing $7.25 which lowkey hurt at first BUT IDC anymore because life is short and the coffee SLAPS! And listen... I been winning at the casinos lately so I tipped $1.75 and made it an even $9 because baristas in SF probably fighting for their lives paying that astronomical rent. If you can afford to tip, DO IT. That little extra really matters to people in the service industry. They even got a little bird in here which is pretty awesome! Anyways shoutout Java on Ocean for healing my inner broke teenager and caffeinating my adult self. Highly recommend with my utmost respectful regards. read more

Java on Ocean... Coffee they use is not the best quality, but the regular pot coffee is actually made Turkish. Very strong in flavor it will perk you up in the morning. Even though the coffee is okay, those little munchies they got are great! I love the Baklava, the Mediterranean honey dessert. And that dainty butter cookies with pistachio... yum Their selections of bottled juices are fun. Great sandwich! I love the grilled herb chicken with avocado and sprouts. They actually marinate the chicken themselves and also the tuna salad. Get the "rosemary potato" bread, it smells very nice. My other favorite is the Falafel. Most girls work there is from SFSU or CCSF. Very cute and friendly, it adds on to your relaxing coffee shop experience. Interiors are funky with worn out sofas and random birds in cage. I went here a couple of weeks ago and as soon as I walked in I noticed the place reeked of just plain awful stench! This was already a red flag for me, but I stuck around anyway. Then I realized that the smell is coming from a homeless person lounging on the couch with which it looked like he had stained bloody clothing on. It is nice and all that the employees here are being inclusive and having this place open for the public, however, if it is a health hazard for others, then they should be mindful and deny services to such people like this. I have nothing against civilized homeless people, but if their presence affects my well-being and the well-being of others then it is obviously a major issue. read more

Came in here in the afternoon for a cup of coffee. Their coffee is pretty good, and the girl at the cashier was incredibly friendly. However, although the coffee shop was big enough to get seated immediately, I found the environment a little weird! There is a bird in a cage (I don't like the concept of having animals in a cage), and the kinda Arabic music sounded a little annoying! This place is usually very crowded thanks to its location, and cheap food and sandwiches, but other than that, I don't see anything outstanding about it! Another one star due to the owner's abrasive response to my comment below. "A service you don't even charge for"?!?! Seriously dude? It's 2025, cafes have Wifi. This isn't an "Internet cafe". Do you live in 1995? Spent many years living in South Africa, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey and Mexico -- cafes there all have better WiFi than your San Francisco spot. I'm a native to the neighborhood, don't shit on me. Show respect to locals, take feedback and constructive criticism with poise, and yes - when I pay $15 for a sandwich I expect the WiFi to freaking work. read more

A really nice corner cafe. I like the birds inside, it's a really nice gesture and a sign of life continuity. I like this cafe for many reasons: There is space for people waiting in line, it is fast service and good coffee. I like sitting there and working on assignments as the street being my view and people passing by. One thing I don't like about Java on Ocean is that it started closing early. The way he approached us was incredibly rude and inappropriate. This is supposedly a family-friendly coffee shop. Children are going to be in and out, and a coffee shop is not a silent environment. If you are going to operate a family-oriented establishment, you should understand that toddlers occasionally make noise. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've witnessed this man being rude, and today's interaction was enough for me to decide that we will never return. The wife and the girls who work there have always been kind, and honestly, they are the only positive part of the experience. But unfortunately, good employees don't make up for consistently poor treatment from the owner. On top of that, the coffee is overpriced and, in my opinion, not particularly good. There are plenty of other coffee shops where I can spend my money and feel welcome. Save your time and money. There are much better places to go.

I ordered an apple fritter and a combination banh mi and it came to $19. Highway robbery. Next, the apple fritter tasted like it was double deep fried in really, REALLY old oil. I could not finish it after two bites. I threw it out. The banh mi was all daikon and also tasted old. The bread was okay, but the ingredients tasted like they've been sitting in a fridge for a while too. Overall, would not go again. I'll go to Mollie Stones and get something there if I'm really hungry. Also- place gets two stars for atmosphere because it was quiet, but it had a ton of signs everywhere with different menus that made it overwhelming to figure out what I wanted.
