I've been here twice so far because I've been very curious about this spot for over a decade now. Yes it's been featured in Diners, Dives and Drive-In's in the late 2000s but the original owner (of relation to the Neely's of Interstate BBQ in Memphis; brother and sister in law(Mrs. Neely has passed), hasn't been running the place for over a decade. I assume this may be for the place's decline in quality of food and service. Anyways, despite the many bad ratings on here, I still decided to give it a shot. First time I had the pulled pork sandwich with medium sauce (tasted more like HOT! But I dealt with it just fine) and it was a very big sandwich and price worthy serving. $11 and comes with a fork because it can get quite messy! For my 2nd time, Decided to go with the 2 meat combo (pork ribs and sliced brisket). It was a little dry, but the BBQ sauce helps in this area. If you don't like BBQ sauce, you won't like this place. I, myself love dry-rub Texas bbq and this place isn't anything like that, but it'll do in a pinch if you have a hankering for BBQ. Sides were also just ok. The ambiance is pretty lackluster and in a very industrial area and is a sight for sore eyes. Also, they have locked up the outdoor patio, so there is no where to eat besides the parking lot on top of your car. Get ready to go somewhere else to try your food and avoid spilling the BBQ contents in your car. Hope the quality of food steps back up someday, this would have been an awesome spot to try in its heyday. 3.5 stars for the friendly service I encounter each time here. Best BBQ ever. I've seriously driven around trying different bbq joints, and this is by far the best. No, I'm not rating it on their coleslaw... their mash potatoes is decent. Their baked beans is their best side. You can't go wrong with their meat combos. They don't hold back on their BBQ sauce either. I tend to stick with mild since I like to enjoy the taste rather than burn my mouth, but they have a range... and their hot sauce is pretty hot I recommend their two meat combination plates. Check your order before you leave! I drove 60 minutes to pick up my son's favorite sandwiches for his birthday. Got home to find my entire order was wrong. It was definitely not an order mixup because I was the only customer there. I ordered and was charged for 4 "large beef bbq on bun" sandwiches, at about $10 each. Instead, I received 4 "links on bread" sandwiches, worth about $5 each. So, ultimately, I paid more and received sandwiches that my family did not like. I really want to love Jay Bee's, but I can't. The overall experience was horrific. To save time, I attempted to phone in my order, but no one answered the phone. I called 4 times. One person is allowed to enter the building at all times. This resulted in me standing outside, in the heat, while I could hear the order taker talking about their excitement about the new Black Panther Trailer. I ordered a rib tip dinner and this was BY FAR the driest BBQ I've had in my 42 years on earth. I thought to myself, "did I order beef jerky"? I honestly chewed each piece until I got tired of chewing and spit out the meat. The BBQ sauce was good, however, once I looked in the tray under the rib tips, I saw nothing but a mixture of grease and bbq sauce. The beans were great. The potato salad was average at best. Will not be returning. The lady in the front took our order and repeated it. She was really nice. I should have checked my order but it was wrong. I called and tried to speak to someone and she set the phone down. In the back ground you could hear someone calling out orders. Seriously this is the worst. I won't be returning. The only thing they got right is my side... and you can keep them. How do you burn bake beans and serve watery macaroni salad. This doesn't look like brisket and hot links to me. I had originally posted a review for this place back in October 2020 since the food quality had completely fallen off during that time. My family decided to put in an order for Jay Bee's again today after hearing a bit of buzz around town that Jay Bee's is back to its original quality. I got a link sandwich and, I have to say it: Jay Bee's is back. My family really enjoyed their meals as well (Chopped beef, rib tips, bbq chicken, beans, etc). The link on bread is back to its smoky, tender roots. The link was rendered extremely well and had excellent tear. The flavor is fantastic and they melt in your mouth. Pairing that with the original Jay Bee's signature BBQ sauce in extra hot? Just delicious perfection. I am so glad I was able to come back and update my review on this (I removed my older review because it is no longer relevant since this place has made a huge change for the better). They seem to have a whole new crew back there making it all happen. Definitely try this place out if you are looking for some good BBQ. Great job! :-D read more

Ordered the rib tips and hot links.... -Rib Tips were so tough that they had to be from the day before. -Hot links were just a poor excuse beef sausage. -Meat is drowned in bbq sauce to hide that it isn't good. -Potato salad tasted like it came from a carton. -Coleslaw was too dry. I'm wondering if they have changed owners , went there on Tues. Oct 24 And I was shocked when I opened my container I had 4 maybe pieces of Rib Tips that had no sauce there wasn't even enough sauce in the bottom to dip them they were also tough and fatty, I've never been so disappointed the potato salad was a thumbs down also the potatoes were hard and had so much Mayo. Know I've always known their potato salad was store bought , but at lease it was edible . I spent $60 + $$$ for 3 dinners that were horrible nobody could eat their food we all went to bed hungry that evening. So we came here because of DDD. The place is in a very scary sketchy neighborhood. The service was good but the food unfortunately lacked. The beef ribs had very little meat and were dried out like beef Jerky, the sauce however I did like alot. The Mac salad seemed like it was from Costco. The beans were definitely the best item we had. The pulled pork sandwich was pretty good just there was an overload of fat. So what seemed like a heavy sandwich lightened up when we removed the fat. The prices were fair. Be advised, use caution when paying with your debit card. They're going thru great lengths just to make an extra "buck"! Stopped by this establishment 5/10/2021 and ordered 2 hotlinks sandwich's which is inexpensive. Total was around $8. Added a soda which came up to around $9 and some change. The lady with the horrible customer service tells me, "they'll charge you an extra $1 for using your debit because it's under $10". Which is fine and understandable. So I paid about $11 and some loose change, on 5/10/2021. Mind you, this extra $1 charge is posted nowhere in this establishment. But it wasn't a big deal. Moving forward to today, which is 5/13/2021. Ordered a different type of sandwich and a small side of potato salad. That same lady told me, "they'll charge you an extra $1 for using your debit because the total is under $13". 1st of all, $13 minimum don't even sound right. Secondly, if y'all need the extra $1 that bad, go up on the prices. So 3 days later, your minimum purchase charge fee has changed from $10 to $13??? GTFOH!!! Sound like some price gouging is going on. This place ain't no different than these other businesses that's trying to recoup for lost wages & closures from covid. Once gain, it ain't about the $1 fee. It's about running your business the right way and have postings about these fees. And when I brought that to her attention, she said "maybe you couldn't hear me the other day because of my mask". I told her to just charge me the extra $1 and I won't be back. First time eating Jay Bee's Bar-B-Q. We pass it all the time and we've even seen them featured on TV. Jay Bee's is a small spot on the corner and quite popular. We came late on a Saturday afternoon and there were people eating at the tables outside and a person or two inside. Everyone there even the customers were very friendly. They were out of a few items by the time we got there which shows how popular this place is, but that didn't deter us from ordering. We ordered a couple of rib tip sandwiches and a couple of pulled pork sandwiches. We waiting outside for our food at one of the tables and we didn't have to wait too long at all. I typically go to another spot for BBQ so I was skeptical. I have to say Jay Bee's did not disappoint. The food was excellent! The rib tips sandwich comes with one side which we got the baked beans, however it did not come with any bread on the side. The rib tips were very meaty and tender, and baked beans were very good. The rib tip sandwich plate is a lot of meat, I was able to eat both lunch and dinner from the rib tip sandwich. My son loved the pulled pork sandwich which was full of meat and also very tender, no side comes with the pulled pork sandwich. I had a small taste of the meat and I have to say I would get a pulled pork sandwich myself. I think Jay Bee's has won my business over my old spot which is a farther drive from me. Jay Bee's is closer to me and better BBQ. Don't let the rating, location or the small size fool you. read more

Spent 25 minutes waiting in line to place an order today. After I got home they screwed up my order. how can you make a mistake by giving me pork ribs when I asked for beef tips.
