I ordered off the app. When I went to pick up my order, the team was very polite and I was in and out very quickly. Good old Jaybee's BBQ. The most authentic Memphis style BBQ offered anywhere in the South Bay. BTW The other Neely brother (Harry owns Jaybees, but his nephew runs the joint now) owns Interstate BBQ in Memphis. Go figure. I've frequented this place since the early 80s. Most would say it's located on the corner of Redondo Beach Blvd and Avalon, but it's really on the corner of San Pedro Street and Avalon about a mile north of the 91 freeway. This is no frills good old fashioned homestyle BBQ. The spare ribs are slow smoked with wood for several hours in an old fashioned red brick smoker oven and are so tender they fall off the bone. Combo plates are served with 4 simple sides of either BBQ baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad or cole slaw and white bread. Trust me when I tell you that besides some sauce and pork put into the beans every thing else is straight out of a Smart & Final box or can. But the sides are not why anyone goes to Jaybees. It's the BBQ meat. I've had the pork shoulder, but by far their signature dish is the pork spareribs. Cooked to mouth watering perfection and to die for. You'll be offered 3 types of BBQ sauces, mild, medium and hot when you order. Unless you want to lick the sidewalk to cool your tongue stick with the mild. It's spicy enough. I haven't even tempted the chicken or beef ribs being the spareribs are so damn good, but I have purchased the links (in combos and alone) many times, which are shipped in fresh from Memphis and must say they are the best I've ever eaten. If you want great authentic BBQ, this is the place in the Los Angeles area. Not Chicago Ribs, Lucielles or places like Tony Romas. Although all those restaurants are decent, they don't do BBQ like Jaybees. This place is a real dive and on the fringes of being in a not so safe area. So go during the day if at all possible. It's basically a take out joint and there's usually a small (5 minute line or wait), but worth every minute. There are a few small park benches located outside if you choose to chow down there. Remember to ask for extra napkins if you do, they never give you enough with the meal. They also offer catering. read more

The owner Beverly Neely is the sister of Jim Neely's who owns Interstate BBQ in Memphis TN. Being part of the Neely family gives them street cred. to me. This restaurant is not located in the ghetto, but it does have a wide variety of people patronizing at there. However, I do agree the peddlers selling things from their car in front of the restaurant needs to go, how annoying. But hey, if you can come off your high horse and dine sitting on a picnic bench outside, than you can get ready to eat some of the best bbq on the west coast for half the price of what you would pay in a large chain restaurant. I drive 35 miles one way to enjoy their delicious food. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw; it was juicy, smokey with a little spicy kick from the mild bbq sauce. My husband loves the pork rib dinner. These are the meatiest, juicy and tender rib on the west coast. You can taste hint of smoke in every bite of these ribs and they are so tender the meat almost falls off the bone. I have tasted most of their sides. Their bbq beans are good but I am not a fan of beans. The potato salad and greens are delicious but my favorite is the coleslaw. I really give them 3.5 stars because the greens are not always available. If there were one thing that Jay Bee could improve on, it would be to put extra coleslaw on those pulled pork sandwiches. An improvement like that I might have to make the drive from the I.E. to Gardena every weekend. read more

After seeing Jay Bee's features on triple D yesterday, BBQ was sounding good. I've been there several times, but yesterday the service was the worst. They were not taking phone orders at all, then after standing in line for about 15-20 mins. the lady came out to say that they needed a break and was not going to be taking orders for 15 mins. Once they started back taking orders and after about 5 customers, she closed her window again to change her shoes and proceeded to put them up on the counter (the place is definitely nothing fancy, but really!!). I don't think the food is worth the customer service once you get there. And, you have to go on the right day if you want to order an extra side sauce, they never make enough. And the bread was dry yesterday. read more

I'm not sure how they can claim "World-Famous." I highly doubt anyone with any credibility from across the globe will give this place any more than a 2-star rating, unless they have COVID and can't taste anything. This place used to bring back childhood memories only to be a complete disappointment. This place exists to satisfy the community of poor, southern fat people who have no appreciation of good food. There's absolutely no reason why their hot dogs, or any of their food should have a sign claiming "world famous." Toast your buns. Show some effort. I would recommend this restaurant to feed your dog because he or she is stupid enough to appreciate it. read more

I'm 57 years old and I grew up on Jay bee BQ. The barbecue is now OK nothing like it use to be. "But" the service is really sad. I wonder if the owner knows how his/her employees represent their company. I'm surprised there still in business, not so much as a thank you, come again, and they treat you like you just got out of prison. We don't have none !!! not to mention the people that work there don't look like they've taken a bath and clothes not clean. I won't be spending my money here again. I went here with a couple of friends. I heard the Rib Tips were good so half of us got them. They were excellent; however, not oh my god I gotta come back every week excellent. The sauce was off the hook. This place definitely hits the spot if you're in the mood for some Barbeque! Also, I hear the chicken and pork shoulder were for the tights as well. I tasted the ribs with and without BBQ sauce. They actually tasted better without the BBQ Sauce because the sauce was too sweet for my liking. I like it hot and spicy. The links, I'm not sure if they were beef or pork, but I did not like the texture, and the casing was difficult to chew through. The mac n cheese, potato salad, and brisket were mediocre at best. We used to get the BBQ from another spot, but the Pandemic took them out. When we were getting BBQ from the other spot, we always brought in empty containers to take food home. Today, those of us who did bring containers said we would take them back home EMPTY. I would definitely not spend my hard-earned money on The LA Pit. There are far too many BBQ spots that are superior to The LA Pit. In my humble opinion!
