My date and I were craving some long overdue Korean BBQ and we were in the perfect area to grab some. We gave this place a try because we were excited to see they have Rice Wine here (since most of the mainstream KBBQ places didn't have this), and we were satisfied beyond our expectations. Parking: A very small dim lot next to the restaurant. Right below the small sign that sits above it. Ambience: We came on a Saturday night (7:00pm) expecting busy wait times but we called in and there was no wait! We were immediately seated. It's a very small restaurant, the booths are big enough to fit a family but bigger parties may need to call in to see if space is available. The vibes are especially different from most bigger and popular places but this qualifies as a hidden gem for sure. Service: Quick and nice! Second time coming to a place where they cook it for you at some points and serve you. They check on you often enough and were quick to see you get all that you ordered. Food: Absolutely nothing I've never had before, we knew we wanted brisket and pork belly, we skipped out on the combos + intestine sections bc of this. Luckily our two meat combo qualified us to also receive a soybean paste soup, steamed egg, and corn cheese for free! We additionally added rice paper to our order for a small charge. The menu is vast and I would like to come back here to try their different meats. I have never had a more flavorful brisket in my KBBQ experience before and the pork belly was thick enough and had that chewiness texture that made it so enjoyable. Employee was nice enough to inform us that the soup + steamed egg are carefully cooked with real flavorful ingredients, so expect high-quality. We didn't go into this place expecting AYCE since we believe places that offer à la carte specializes in quality, so please come with the same idea if you choose to go here! There's only a few parking spots dedicated to the restaurant so we had to park down the street. Just a bit of a wait for a late dinner at 8pm. I came here with a group of 6 friends for dinner on a Friday night. We had made reservations beforehand but turns out we didn't really have to as the place was pretty empty. Seems like an old place and a bit run-down, quiet, and on the smaller side. This is a kbbq place (not all-you-can-eat) that specializes in intestines. A few of my friends and I are not huge fans of intestines so we just got one a la carte plate of the gopchang (small intestines). I had a hard time eating the small intestines personally because I didn't like the texture. It was rubbery and chewy on the outside, and the filling inside had a gritty, dry egg yolk-like texture that was off-putting to me. We also got the pork combo and the beef combo which we liked better than the intestines. The meat quality was just okay. They also made fried rice for us at the end on the grill which wasn't as good as I expected. I didn't particularly enjoy this meal and I probably won't come back as there are better options for kbbq in Gardena (like Yellow Cow) but if you love intestines, this place might be worth trying if you need to stay in Gardena. They have a small parking lot and we lucked out as there was a spot for us, and inside the only wait was for them to set up the table for us. He did his best despite the language barrier and two other tables he had to juggle. For example, I don't think any of the tables got water until we requested it at the end. I've been here the past couple of times after this horrid review, and may I say, I was 100% wrong about everything? I fear I was a bit too critical the first visit, but for the past few visits they've been patient, considerate and kind! The food is AMAZING and I can't stop myself from indulging any further on my orders, especially the gopchang which is top-tier. It's always filled with gop (filling) and you're free to leave it on the grill for the extra crisp which makes it all the more delicious! The ventilation is not great, so don't wear your nicest fit. It gives home-y vibes. Like literally, you feel transplanted into someone's because someone will grill the meat for you. No AYCE here - you order from set menus: beef, pork, duck - whatever tickles your fancy. Or intestines if that's your jam. While the meat was good (we had a combination of both beef and pork) the banchan was even better. Honestly it tasted like someone's mom whipped up the batch they're feeding the guests. I think each set comes with: kimchi pancake, soy bean paste soup, corn cheese, and a metal platter filled with tiny portions of stupidly good banchan. Though the portions are small, they are carefully crafted. The steamed egg shouldn't have tasted as good as it did. Even the marinated sliced onions were so damn good. I'd come back for this alone. The spicy cold noodles ($15.99) were also fire. You can eat it alongside the bbq meat or alone. In either case, the cold noodles broth was absolutely flavorful. I can't believe I only found out about this place recently and I've lived in Southbay LA all my life! We got their brisket and galbi which was so tender and delicious. When we arrived to Kko Kko Yang, we were greeted by an older gentleman, who I found out was the owner of the restaurant. We also had the chance to meet Jenny who's the gentleman wife. She is absolutely hilarious and just so fun to be around and talk to. We got the Large intestine combo that comes with Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Abomasum, Beef Stomach, and Beef Heart. Everything was so delicious, especially the Large Intestine, Abomasum, and Beef Stomach. Those 3 meats had to be my favorite, it was just so fatty, juicy, and the texture was impeccable. In addition to the intestine combo, we got the Kimchi Fried Rice which was just the icing on the cake. As someone who isn't too fond of kimchi it was delicious. The place is very cozy and best for smaller parties, probably no more than 4-5 as the tables are small. The prices are great for the quality offered and the service was prompt. The ambience is a bit weird if you're expecting top 40 hits, it's more like someone is playing youtube music and the ads will periodically come up and you might wonder whats happening but hey, that's part of the charm. Found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. My first impression is, this place seems like a Korean chicken restaurant that came out of the early 2000s. We got the medium beef combo and medium intestine combo (where you choose 3) for a family of five. The meat quality is great and they cook everything for you, which is a plus. Even though I grew up in Korea, I never had gopchang, makchang or daechang. My Dad didn't even eat pork or chicken, so we didn't really have adventurous dining experiences. Now that I'm an adult, I've dabbled in the intestine menu here and there, and although I'm not a connoisseur, I really enjoyed our bbq at KkoKko. It was very tasty, and I can see why some people are big fans. We ordered the med combo which is PLENTY for two people, and the bbq came out cooked once already. Then you cook it longer on the tabletop grill until it gets really crispy, and it is so good! The service here is nice, there was a young gentleman and the owner working all the tables. The restaurant is on the smaller side, very casual, very old-school vibe. None of the fancy modern decor. They fried rice for us at the end too. They have beer and soju, of course. We tried the hallasan soju, which is kinda hard to find elsewhere. I would recommend this place, even if you're not a fan of intestines. Give it a try, you might love it.
