It's a little spot located on a triangular island, but they know how to create some amazing BBQ. The flavor of the meat is great and the smoked flavor just adds to it. Sliced brisket: They do the brisket slightly different since it's not in huge slices. It's more chopped up or maybe it just breaks down since it's so tender, but nonetheless it's extremely tasty and it goes well with the bread since you can make a sandwich. Overall, if you want BBQ done right then I would highly suggest making a stop at Jay Bee's Bar-B-Q. They have a mild, medium, hot, and extra hot BBQ sauce that gets topped on all of the meat. Unfortunately, they don't give you extra sauces on the side, but they give you plenty of sauce on the meat. I just wanted to try all of the different flavors, but it makes sense why they don't allow this. You go inside to order & get a number; sometimes it's kinda crowded inside with both the order & pickup windows, so order and wait outside. It was literally a standing shack with maybe 5 outdoor benches where you can eat your food. We walked into the restaurant where barely 6 people can fit in at once. There was a huge glass that divides the customers and the kitchen staff. The menu is quite simple. Dinner: comes with two sides. Sandwich comes with one side. We ordered a small plate of pork ribs and beef ribs and got their baked beans potato salad and cole slaw. GET THE BAKED BEANS!! Yummm. Both ribs literally fell out of the bones and it was perfectly cooked. I got the mild sauce which was drenched on the ribs. Some pieces were dry and some were very juicy. Overall, the ribs were really good. The sauce however can be toned down a bit. It's a good place to come for To-Go if you live around the area. Not sure if I'd make a long trip just to come here and eat. Afterall, no dining area was a big turn off. The weather was 60 degrees with a little drizzle and quite windy. I ordered 6 of those, a link sandwich ( comes on wonderbread) and some sweet potato pie. The pulled pork was great as was the link sandwich. The sweet potato pie rivaled the ones I have had in New Orleans. My curiosity got the best of me and I visited Jay Bee's to see if the quality of their BBQ had improved from the last time I went there some 2 years ago. Now mind you the last time I went there the BBQ chop beef on bun had decline from the glory days that I remember back in the mid 90's. That last visit there for my signature sandwich wasn't a chop beef on bun, but a BBQ swamp meat on bun. However my visit there on Wednesday renewed my faith in Jay Bee's. My signature chop beef on bun with mild sauce was very tasty and the beef wasn't bathing in sauce. In fact the amount of sauce to meat ratio was spot on. The meat was smokey, moist and not chewy. And with that sauce and just the right amount of fat nestled into the bun, but yet not too much keeping the bun intact, made the sandwich such a delight for the eye, senses, and my taste buds. The service was far better too. The lady working the cash register was polite and funny. Hey it was a good day for me, the stars must of lined up just right because there wasn't a lot of traffic and I was able to get my order fairly quick. Now I cannot comment on the ribs, chicken or any of the sides because I didn't sample any. Besides this quest had one goal in mind. The Chop Beef On Bun. Well... I am a foodie and will travel miles to try a new restaurant. While watching the food network i saw an episode of Diners Drive in and Dives. Guy compared Jay Bees to Nellys Interstate Barbecue in Memphis Tennessee. Well you maybe related to the Nellys but your barbecue is a far comparison. if you are familiar with Nellys barbecue and you go eat at Jay Bees you will be disappointed. The ribs were flavorless the brisket was fatty and all of the meat was swimming in sauce.... Oh the sauce is not Nellys sauce. I spent 6 years living in Memphis10 and Interstate was my favorite I frequently visited and enjoyed my meals. Guy should be ashamed to compare this restaurant to interstate. I am very disappointed. The only place you'll find Memphis style BBQ better than what's offered at Jay Bee's BBQ is in Memphis ! Let's be clear, Memphis style isn't something you'll find at an "Outback Steak House". It has a distinct flavor and texture which isn't enjoyed by everyone. You may not like Jay Bee's if for no other reason than you don't know what you're eating. For one thing, according to the owners, their meat is dry rubbed with a secret blend of spices and then slow cooked over a smoker for hours(classic Memphis Style). According to many experts, it's the rub that helps put a char over the meat thus locking in moisture. It's only after the cooking is done that a tangy, spicy, slightly sour, thin in its consistency tomato based sauce is slathered on to the meat. At Jay Bee's they provide quite a lot, to the point that it pools underneath your meat. Jay Bee's is a small family owned business which isn't anything more than a BBQ stand. They've literally surrounded a smoker with four walls. It's not fancy but it's very good Memphis Style BBQ. I placed an ordered for the small beef rib ($10.95). Their pork ribs, which are better than the beef ribs, are to die for but I wasn't in the mood for them. The order comes with 3 large beef ribs full of meat, with plenty off sauce that it pools underneath the ribs. Sweet coleslaw (low mayo, low vinegar, a touch of sugar) and BBQ baked beans( which has nice bits of BBQ meat cooked with the beans) and two pieces of bread. The ribs were deliciously tender and flavorful with a wonderful char around the meat. The sauce is classically Memphis style, not at all sweet but tangy, with the right amount of chili and paprika. They offer 3 levels of spiciness, mild, medium, hot. The medium is hot for me and full of paprika goodness. At Jay Bee's it's all about the BBQ; that's all they care about here and you can't go wrong with anything you order. They do it all very well. As long as you know what you're eating, and you have an affinity/appreciation/understanding of Memphis Style BBQ, I challenge you to find a better place than Jay Bee's in the LA area. read more

The barbecue here was good, but it was smothered in too much sauce. The portions were a good size, but there were several items unavailable due to lack of preparation. I went here during lunchtime, so it was not late in the day where everything had been sold out. Only one person is allowed inside at a time to order and there is somewhat of a delay to receive your food. They have a line there with some frequent and loyal customers that all had good compliments to say about the food. I have been coming here for years and never had an issue, everything delicious. I recently visited again and I was disappointed. I ordered the pork rib dinner with baked beans and cole slaw and NO white bread. Everything tasted ok, but not the same flavor I remembered from Jay Bees. The pork was not tender or falling off the bone, what happened? Where is the rich smokey flavor? I suspect a change in ownership or someone is not following the family recipe.
