Jen, our server, was attentive to our needs and kept checking back in frequently. The wait time for the food was longer than expected, but it was totally worth the wait. I've been hanging out in Gailesville on a sailboat and was sick and tired of the normal 'sports bar' 'fry it all' type food options. One of the locals told us to head to JesseJays if we want a good Latin inspired meal and bomb drinks. Ohh Boy! This place rocks and is super legit. Being from SoCal and offshore sailing we eat a ton of Latin cuisine, I'd say this is one of the top spots I've ever visited. Firstly: the margaritas are to die for, if you haven't had a real homemade sweet sour base....your in for an amazing tasty treat. Second: if you like nachos, quesadillas, and tacos (street style) you cannot go wrong with the classics. Third: But the piece-de-resistance was the Mofongo (see pic) this was to DIE for...never had it this good outside of Caribbean/Central America. Disappointed. Long time customers and fans, we were happy to take our out of town friends to Jesse Jay's. Made a rez for 6:45, had dinner, two rounds of drinks, and at 7:45, the waitress offered us the dessert menu - we said yes please! Five minutes later she came back and said she was sorry, kitchen closed, no dessert. Then she went to another table where the folks had just arrived, and took their dinner order. When we asked her about it she said they ordered from the late night menu. Sorry, can't really understand how a bowl of ice cream is a bigger burden on the kitchen than a burrito. Wow, just wow! We had read the Yelp reviews for this new restaurant (open only about three months) and it was on our radar, but it's a bit of a drive for us. Today we had to go to Annapolis and decided to stop in for lunch. Really glad we did! It's small, seating for about 30 plus six at the bar looking into the open kitchen. Clean and bright, with interesting artwork. You'll feel like you're in the islands. we were told it fills up quickly for dinner and then it's best to have a reservation. They take three reservations per hour in order to leave room for walk-ins. The menu is not large and the food is simple but delicious. We started out with the chips and salsa which were really good. My bride opted for the roast pork which was amazing. So tender just melted in your mouth. I went with the fried pork mofongo and was not disappointed. Usually I have to go to Florida to get this Puerto Rican dish so I'm really happy to have it here in Maryland. Service was great, our waitress was always present but not too obtrusive. Restrooms are spotless as is the rest of the restaurant. Prices are reasonable for the value of this kind of cooking. if you follow my reviews you know that I give five stars for places to which I would drive out of my way, four stars for places at which I would like to be a regular customer and three stars for places to which I would return. Can't wait to get back to Jessie Jay's and I will drive out of my way to do it. read more

If you're looking for a great atmosphere for a couple hours, JesseJays is the place for you. The food is outstanding and cannot be topped. The waiters are phenomenal with checking on you and taking orders. Though it may take a little while to get your food, it's worth it. We always order appetizers to hold us over until the course comes out. The drinks are great too and will have you singing to the music in no time. They are a small business so we keep that in mind. But they play music, have cool lights and decorations, so overall it's a great place to be. read more

EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING! Yes it requires all caps. It really was that great! I'll warn you, however, that this place is small so maybe getting reservations is a good idea. We did but I can tell you that I would have happily waited for a table at JesseJays. When I say that every single thing we ordered blew us away, it is not an exaggeration. Our table ordered the made-to-order guacamole, shrimp mofongo, a steak dish, kids chicken burrito and the Spanish Courdon Bleu sandwich. All delish. We also ordered the signature margarita, classic margarita and a mojito. Again all delish. But our favorite had to be the plantain beignets for dessert. We ordered an order which included three beignets....but then we had to order two more orders!!! You can read the story of JesseJay's owners, Jesse and Jayleen, on the menu but you can also see them in the restaurant doing the things. I even saw Jesse come out a few times to greet guests. It's truly a family-run, small business that I am happy to support over and over again. You can literally taste the love and hard work that they've put into opening this restaurant in the food that they serve! Fantastic Latin Experience in Churchton, MD! Great restaurant & wonderful, kind owners. Charming Latin style from the decor to the lighting and flags representing several Latin countries. We ordered the Pan Seared Shrimp Mofongo which was exceptional. For an appetizer we had the chips & guac as well as the Chispita Fries. YUM! The guac was chunky and fresh. The Chispita fries were addicting. For dessert we had the Plantain Beignets and the Red Velvet Churros. Both were delectable and melted in our mouths. We will certainly be back. I have a love-hate relationship with Jessejay's. I've eaten their food multiple times, always takeout and never dine in. The food has always been delicious. The Cuban sandwich is my usual order and it is amazing. That's the love part. I can illustrate the hate part with my experience last night. I ordered two items online at 6:15. After I paid I learned my food would be ready in 85 to 90 minutes!!!!! I showed up at the the appropriate time and was told the order was not ready. I waited an additional 20 minutes. Finally, at 8:00 I received my order. Overall, 1 hour and 45 minutes elapsed between placing and receiving my order. This seems unreasonably long, especially when one doesn't realize how long the wait will be until after paying for the order. It was a Friday, and so I'm sure they were busy. But I can't imagine someone dining in the restaurant would be expected (much less willing) to wait 1 hour and 45 minutes to get their food. And so I'm not sure the love is sufficient to conquer the hate for me. And that's a little sad. read more

And its adorable it's small they definitely need to expand the outside area they have the room to do! I love the music they play wish it was louder tho! Jamie is awesome and another girl waited on us too I have forgotten her name but Jamie said she was awesome and she was! This place is a delicious, hidden gem in Churchton, MD. Amazing food, great service, and yummy margaritas. Everything is flavorful, hot, and fresh. I highly recommend the margarita with Grand Marnier. We have been several times and everything has been fantastic. We love the tacos, the burrito, the nachos, the burger, chips and queso, everything! Listen. If I am willing to drive three and a half hours to eat at a restaurant because I remember it that fondly from the very first time I tried it, then it's a highly recommended restaurant for me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Since my husband and I drove to Maryland on Wednesday night, I knew that I needed to get my JesseJay fix immediately and thank goodness they were open for take out orders. I went with my usual: Churrasco of course! The chimichurri sauce was perfect on such a perfectly made skirt steak. I also got the fried plantains and mexi-corn this time around and they were PERFECT. In case you missed it, I HIGHLY recommend trying JesseJay the next time you're in Deale, or in my case visiting Shady Side, and getting anything on the menu because you can't go wrong. Everything I've gotten has not been hot...sometimes warm, sometimes not. Don't bother ordering any drink except what's on the menu - they can't do anything else. But, their margueritas were good, the jalepeno one actually had some heat. cudos there. So, I'm not a sugar coater and this is my honest review. Would I go there again even with it being the closest, local bar? Um...no. Better can be had. But, if you want to duck in for a drink, have at it. Always consistent with the street tacos. Can't rave about anything else because it all I ever get. Service is great. Keep in mind it is a small place and can feel cramped if you don't like the idea of a social/family style experience. Personally I always loved that aspect.
