We were staying at Jay Peak resort for 5 days during President's week and wanted to try some of the local places rather than just eating at the resort. We are here for lunch on the second day and liked it so much we came back for dinner a couple of nights later. Highlights from lunch: - Buffalo wings: nice and large and very tasty - French dip sandwich - very tasty and good size - Caesar salad with steak (my daughter wanted steak! Go figure); HUGE size. Could have been appetizer for 3 or 4 people Not as good from lunch: - Mussels Milano: it was ok but too much cheese and sauce and not enough mussels. To make it worse, 3 or 4 of mussels had not opened at all so we did not eat them Highlights from dinner: - Buffalo wings (so good, we had to have them again) - 40oz porterhouse special: perfectly cooked. - Nachos: HUGE and delicious. Apart from their being a fireplace with real wood logs burning, I can't think of a single redeeming quality of this dump. Food is not good. Service is not good. The bartender has absolutely no idea how to make cocktails. I ordered a dry martini and got watered down gin on the rocks in a wine glass. So I tried a classic Manhattan, and she dumped a bunch of ice in it and put it in a wine glass again. So I asked for it "up" and she dumped it in a martini glass and added some warm bourbon. Nobody liked their meals at all. I splurged on a filet mignon after a long drive. Waitress said it came with rice, but is showed up with literally two pounds of cold mashed potatoes. Waitress had no idea what kinds of liquor they had, forgot to bring the wine with dinner, and so on. I know it's in the country so I didn't have huge expectations, but come on. And my filet was $42, so this isn't come diner with low prices. read more

We started with Calamari...it was amazing! Cooked perfectly, just the right amount of crisp yet still leaving the squid tender and delicious...only suggestion more sauce please!! Salads were fresh appearing to be local and well put together along with the delicious homemade dressings. Super nice place! The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. I Loved their fireplace and life music. Great, various menu and delicious food. As someone mentioned before, the portions are really big. I ordered Bread Bowl of seefood soup (which was very tasty) as appetizer and believe me I just couldn't eat anything more. My husband ordered burger and was very pleased with it too. Went there last night. Food was good but service was TERRIBLE. There were six adults and we were not in any hurry but our poor waitress was totally overwhelmed. She would come see us every 1/2 hour+. We almost left twice but couldn't find her to pay for what we'd already had eaten. To top it off, the main bartender?/manager? was an A&$@. He was so nasty to his staff that it made us uncomfortable to here him. We also heard him snapping at customers. At one point we heard him yell, "Why the f@&$ do people need to get all the fancy drinks? Why can't the idiots just order beer and wine like normal people?" He was so incredibly rude and the exact opposite sort of person that should be working in the customer service industry. Arrived on a crowded holiday evening and the host graciously offered a seat by the warm cozy fireplace where we were able to order drinks and food. This place is family friendly and offers large portions. Our plares included an awesome nachos platter (huge). Great steak. Tasty salmon and delish sundae to top it all off. Went here for dinner at the end of our snowboard/ski trip. Totally random stop, but the Yelp reviews pushed us through the door. This restaurant is cozy with a ski lodge theme. The service was friendly and our waiter provided good suggestions. Here are mine: 1. Don't get the steak. Mine was overcooked slightly. The meat quality wasn't great, but then again, it's a $26 ribeye so I couldn't expect top quality steak. Nonetheless, you might be more happy with something from Outback. 2. Do get the ribs. A half rack is a huge portion, but get a full rack if you have a humungous appetite. The meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. Absolute must get here. 3. Don't get the nachos. The portion is huge so it's good if you want something to munch on for an appetizer, but the entrees come out relatively quickly so you can probably skip having such a large appetizer to begin with. 4. Try the horseradish ranch for the salad dressing. If you like ranch and horseradish, you'll like the combo. Ask about the wing challenge. If you finish these super duper hot wings in 10 minutes, you get a t-shirt and a picture on the wall. You will leave full and satisfied here, especially if you order the ribs. read more

Long time reader, first time yelper. This was the BEST snowboarding restaurant experience I have ever had. There is nothing more satisfying than a nice filling steak dinner after a hard day on the slopes. First I had the chili. It was much bigger than even the larger bowl portions at any restaurant I have ever been to, stacked to the brim with chunks of beef, sour cream, crispy tortilla chips. On another day this could have served as a meal on its own, but not this day. Instead of each getting a half rack of ribs, my friend and I shared a full rack since it was so much cheaper. What we didn't expect was that the rack was ginormous, juicy, fall off the bone meat. I also had a taste of the delmonico cut of steak and it was delicious as well, on part with some of the well known steak restaurants in NYC. Not to bash, but dinosaur bbq ribs did not hold a candle to these. All in all this was a fantastic restaurant experience, and far more satisfying than many restaurants I've been to where the bill has been twice as much. If you go snowboarding at jay peak even if you don't stay here, stopping by here for a cheap, hefty portioned dinner that will leave you well satisfied is a must! read more

Great place to grab a beer and meal after a full day of skiing at Jay. My family and I ski Jay Peak every weekend through the winter, and we make at least one trip to the JVI each of those weekends. Great food and friendly staff. My favorites, and recommendations, include the Mussels Milano, Nachos and BLT. If you're looking for a heavier meal the Steak au Poivre, Rack of Lamb and Delmonico are big sellers. The steak doesn't sound big enough for your appetite? They let you add-on by the ounce. This was the biggest rip off joint I was ever in... When I got my bill it was more expensive than what the menu prices were..when I confronted the waiter he played like he didn't know that. I ask him for a menu and compared prices with both of them. He left the table and came back with a new bill that charged me for pulled pork sandwiches which I never had them and again when I asked about that he said it did t make a difference and again I told him that the bill was too high he left and came back with some money for the over charge and with that it still wasn't enough. I then went to the manager and ask her what was going on and she said that she owed me more back and then said we just got a new computer and new the prices was different but they didn't get a chance to fix it yet.If and body was in there this weekend probably got ripped off also. Awesome place! I tried out the restaurant after a long day of skiing and was not disappointed. For some hearty food, this is the place to go. Us Canadians could not finish our plates- the portion size are HUGE! Seriously, there must be about a box of pasta for each order. I got the steak au poivre. It was cooked to my liking with garlic parmesen mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli on steroids. Everything on the plate was up to par with no fancy surprises. They made a mean French onion soup and if it is still available, do check out the scampi. They are the largest I've seen, very tender and well seasoned. We had a hilarious, very bored waiter who suddenly became very enthusiastic when describing the hot wing challenge. You get the hottest wings, have to eat 12 in 10 minutes and if you win you get a T-shirt and you're picture on their wall. Definitely have a gander at the "Wall of Flame". I have never seen a more amazing/wide range of facial expressions. The service was excellent considering this was for a table of fourteen. If you're in this neck of the woods, this is a place that will definitely satisfy your needs. read more

We've stopped here a few times when we are our riding across the Vermont Country side. The food is OUTSTANDING and very generous portions. I ordered a Chicken Ceasar salad, amazing dark greens, fresh, lemon, cherry tomatoes, olive, bread, croutons and dressing on the side. It came served in a rather large, square wooden bowl. I wish I'd taken a picture, it was stunning. Everyone thought it could have served the entire table of four, I ate, ate and ate. I couldn't finish the entire salad, left some croutons and shaved cheese, this was the most amazing salad I've ever had. Shared some fries and onion rings from the guys who didn't want all of them and they were fantastic. It's a rustic place with amazing food, it only seems to get better every time we go. Wife and I had dinner here while staying up at Jay for the weekend. Their lack of having anything decent open this time of year led us to this great place down the hill. Really should get better about taking pics, but the nacho pic someone took before actually made us try it. We went with the cheese and salsa version. That salsa is one of the best we have ever had. Having spent a majority of my life in so-cal, that's saying something. With that said, we also did the BBQ plate & filet tips. All items were good, in addition to the bread and dipping sauce which I thought was top notch. Great place in the middle of nowhere. Deserves to be busier then it is. So good that we went back for breakfast and had the awesome biscuits and gravy, while the wife had one of the skillets. If you're in the area, go here. You won't be disappointed. read more

We drove 8 hours to The Jay Village Inn and it was worth it. We stayed here for 3 nights to ski and we plan on staying here anytime we come up to Vermont again. The place has got rooms to stay, their own restaurant downstairs which serves breakfast/lunch and dinner after 3:30. I had all of them and was not disappointed once. They have a brand new hot tub which was really a highlight of staying here. I highly recommend this place! Oh and the staff were great too! read more

Appetizers were generous proportions. Lobster bisque was hearty and a meal in itself to the point that my wife reconsidered and cancelled her main course meal. The bisque was not too rich and had plenty of lobster and it didn't taste processed or made for the masses. We also ordered the trout bruschetta. Not anything out of the ordinary with that order, but the bread was a little on the soft side and the trout was bland. Again the portion was very generous. The steak Oscar was excellent. The sauce was not too rich and the crab did not over power the flavor of the steak. I asked for medium and it was more on the done side, but it was acceptable and delicious. Service was slow and it detracted from the experience. It didn't seem like our server really cared for us but appeared to be more attentive to the other patrons. No a/c in the room - just two little portable fans and it was August 11, 2017. Their Dish network provided only a few TV stations at best. My bed had dirty sheets that someone had obviously slept in. The mussels I ordered were served unopened (at least 50% of them) and cigarette butts abounded in an overflowing ashtray on the upstairs deck, the deck floor and in front of the poolside waiters' station. Our waitress disappeared after I showed her the many unopened mussels; however, she did ask me if I would like her to bring them back to him (the cook) to open them. This was 30 minutes after she served them. She never returned to clear the plates or give me a bill. I waited (by the outdoor pool - where I ate) for 40 more minutes and then went to my room. Eventually, someone stopped my roommate in the hallway and asked for payment in full of the food. A second credit card was used and they were paid in full. David, the innkeeper (according to him) returned my email (to him) saying he would credit back the card used for my stay for the fee of the room. David refused to refund even half of the $16.00 I was charged for the uncooked half of my dinner. He was not a bit sorry for my experiences and he did not even mention addressing the issues with the staff. David was curt and rude. That made me wonder if he was actually the person in charge, so I called the Jay Town Clerk's office to determine who owns Jay Village Inn. Someone in Jay told him that I called and the next day, he changed his mind and said that he cancelled the refund for the price of my room price. He later accused me of attempting extortion. The Jay Village Inn has very poor service, high prices, uncaring staff, inept housekeeping and David, the innkeeper, whose word is no good. Please forgive the disgusting face I made to describe how I felt finding that half my mussels were uncooked! Notice the little toxic unopened mussels on the plate! stay away!! I booked the bungalow, only to be told when I got there that they never had bungalows. Was told that it was expedia's fault. Yet it is still advertised on the site, and now some other poor slob has booked it, not knowing they won't be getting it. They know about this yet they book the bungalow anyway: BAIT AND SWITCH. Nastey mold in the shower, and overloaded outlets (I have pictures) with no place to plug in your own devices except the bathroom, really unsafe. housekeeping never came the whole time we were there, trash from the first day was still there when we left. Recommend you past this one up or a more honest establishment. read more
