The food portions and flavors are fantastic! The service was friendly and excellent! The atmosphere was a sweet warm lodge feel which we loved!

My finished plate...sorry! I forgot to take a pre-devouring photo!

JVI is certainly off the beaten path, but the food screams 5-star! Caprese salad, blood orange cosmo, and a Waygu burger with bacon and onion jam were all delightfully delicious! Highly recommend!

Very nice restaurant, good quality ingredients used and decent price. Must recommend to get the dessert here, they are absolutely delicious and a great end to the meal.

Love the ambiance. It's so casual without trying. Like having dinner in your cousins basement. But way better.

Nachos with salsa and sour cream. There is also an option to get them with sausage, olives, peppers, and jalapeños as well.

My second review of this unique offering in Lowell VT…read more Small eatery, you can drive by it if you're not watching for it. They did an amazing job staying open during the hard times of social distancing during the hard pandemic period and provided great outdoor car service. It's easier now, their prices have increased very slightly but they still provide great food at very reasonable prices. We have been back many times since my first review and their food quality is still terrific. I feel that their seafood offerings are very reasonably priced compared to going to the coast and it's has proven to be prepared much better than what we received in Maine at a much lower cost. I'm totally hooked on their shrimp poor boy. Hubbies fried scallops, fried whole belly clams or fried oysters have always been cooked and served properly. Very generous portions. We see the Cajun as our "go to" for a seafood place in Vermont. You can eat eat in the dining room, outside at one of their tables or in your vehicle. It can be very busy there, rightly so. Bring your appetite!

We also had a side of onion rings. I love Cajun and Creole cuisine, next time I might go for a dinner plate. One thing that I do wish is that they had a Gumbo or Crawfish boil on the menu .... Had been wanting to stop for here since last year .... fnally got to . Definitely we go back .

Our server was absolutely amazing. Very attentive and always kept our water refill. I even asked that our table will be moved because there was a loud party next to us and they accommodated me. I started off with a half to dozen fresh oysters, they did not disappoint! My husband and I split the special which was filet mignon and Oscar lobster tail with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The steak fillet was cooked a beautiful medium rare and the spiny lobster was perfectly poached. I almost wish we would've each gotten our own plate! The kids got a kids hamburger and chicken nuggets, both were happy, and I was happy with the price point. My friend has a Gluten allergy and so she got the tuna poke bowl, and was not overjoyed with it, however, the server quickly replaced it with a gluten-free burger and she very much enjoyed. To finish off dinner, my husband got the peppermint, white chocolate cheesecake, and I got the coconut cream cake. I highly recommend the coconut cream cake!!! Will be back!

The restaurant wasn't too busy in the afternoon on a Saturday, so it's a roomy place to grab a bite and have a place to sit down in the middle of your ski day. The setting was comfortable enough, a fine spot to grab a bite on a ski day.

During a recent ski trip to Jay Peak, my group and I visited this cozy local restaurant with high…read morehopes, given the limited dining options in the area. Overall, it offered a unique experience, though not without a few drawbacks. To start, the appetizers were fantastic. We shared the beef tartare, mussels, and crab rangoon. The beef tartare stood out for its flavor, though the accompanying baguette was slightly stale. Despite that, the appetizers were the highlight of the meal. For soup, we sampled the French onion, which was met with mixed reviews--decent, but not particularly memorable. The main courses included kangaroo, venison, fish and chips, and duck. While the chef's talent for creating flavorful dishes was evident, all the meats were unfortunately overcooked. This may have been due to the challenge of preparing multiple meals at once, as we were informed that there was only one chef in the kitchen. The restaurant itself boasts a charming and homey ambiance that enhances the dining experience. Service was friendly and accommodating, with no issues on that front. A standout feature of the menu was the inclusion of kangaroo--a rare find, especially in Vermont. While it's worth trying for the novelty, be prepared for its distinctively high iron content, which imparts a metallic flavor that may not appeal to everyone. In conclusion, this restaurant offers a unique and enjoyable experience despite a few missteps. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop for those visiting the Jay area. Just keep in mind that the kitchen's limitations may impact larger parties or more complex orders. If you're feeling adventurous, give the kangaroo a try--you likely won't find it anywhere else nearby!

We ordered the antelope Swedish balls, French onion soup, and firecracker beef. Most of the food wasn't great - the antelope Swedish meatballs were the best of the 3. The French onion soup had too much thyme and a very watery broth. The firecracker beef was offensive!! It has a warning that it's very spicy (which is true), but it was a really strange dish! I expected an Asian inspired spicy beef dish over rice, but we got a hot sauce drenched rice bowl. Allegedly there was beef in it, but there was really no texture or flavor other than hot sauce! To clarify to the owner comment - we did tell our server we didn't like it, and that it was not due to the spice - it was due to the gross flavor. She simply said "oh I haven't heard that one" and did not offer to take it off the bill or replace it. Now the drinks and desserts were fantastic! We loved our seasonal cocktails, and we ordered two desserts and polished them off. The maple chomeur was drenched in sauce and so good - we actually poured the remaining sauce over our apple warm too! I loved the fresh apples in the tart since there was some texture. Service was also very good from the front desk to our server.
