The place to be on a Tuesday night! The music is always incredible and so soulful, and the crowd is a blast. I always find myself dancing and singing the night away with new friends. Not to mention the views and the interior are stunning!

There is an age minimum because of the bar. No age limit at all for jazz lovers. Mostly a mix of 20s and 30s plus some 40s and up. All good and all vibing with the scene.

There is a parking structure around the corner so there is plenty of parking. The jazz club does validate if you pay in advance and I think it's pretty convenient because we actually stayed a little longer to hang out with my friend backstage after his performance. Once we arrived, you walk into this huge open area with the bar to your left and a bunch of seating in the middle. To the right is the stage with a blue background (probably to go with the blue note theme lol). One thing that stuck out right away is how packed they made it. They are definitely trying to maximize their profits by squeezing everyone in there like a pack of sardines. I would rate this higher if they took out a few tables to give people some space and legroom. It's insane! Besides that, it's perfect! The sound is good, the vibe is on point and the food was very good! I went with the salmon, mashed potatoes and broccoli and everyone who ordered it was raving about it. That salmon was fire!! I'll definitely be back to catch other artists I've been wanting to see live. I would recommend but you guys have to make some space so we can breathe. OOOO 4.5 out of 5 Afros

As always, the room was alive with energy under the glow of carefully adjusted lighting and the dark woods that create just the right feeling of being hidden away from the world. My bartender, Nelson, deftly whipped up one of the best-tasting Sidecars that I've had in quite some time. The strength of the cognac was there, but quite properly balanced with tartness from the orange and lemon, and the sweetness of the sugar rim. An excellent, light cocktail to pair with uptempo jazz. While I wasn't hungry on night #1, I did find myself peckish on night #2, and decided to order a Shrimp Cocktail and Parker House Rolls. Not quite the indulgent meals of previous visits, but very satisfying nonetheless. Those Parker House Rolls emerge hot and crusty on the outside, yeasty and pillowy inside. The light, buttery flavor of the bread is nicely contrasted by the pleasingly pungent olive tapenade served on the side. However, they also serve some deliciously rich whipped butter with the rolls, and that's an indulgence all its own. The Shrimp Cocktail is another example how precise and talented this kitchen is despite having to serve the entire room during a very small window of time. 4 Jumbo (possibly colossal) shrimp come creatively plated with the usual accompaniments, and are meaty enough to eat with fork & knife. Perfectly poached before being chilled, the Shrimp had just the right texture, and the fresh, mildly briny flavor that lets you know the food comes from the very best purveyors. Yes, it was an enjoyable, satisfying small meal with crisp cocktails and great music. Wednesday nights can't really get any better.

This was the last stop in a night where Conrad and I stepped out to LA to have a good time. So by…read morethe time I got there I was tipsy. I was not falling down the stairs, nor was I slurring my words, nor was I misaligning my pool shots, but I was definetely feeling the good inside my blood. I note this, not to highlight my cool factor as if I was a frat bro in a Florida party school, but more to describe how my experience was fogged by my consumption. This place was definetely a hot spot to hit, but I just will not be able to descrbie everything with speicifc detail, more, broad strokes of a good time. The place is reached by going down a flight of stairs, which feels like one is going to catch the J line in New York. I think I felt this more because of the Spring St sign- a famous stop in NY, NY. As soon, I got there, the goal was to continue the good time and this place allowed that at a reasonable price. They had these can drinks that I really responded and they were only 7 dollars. Ok, I know that saying something is only 7 dollars in this economy can seem out of touch. But a drink in LA most of the time will run you at least 12 to 16 dollars, and I think it is mostly on the 16 side. So finding a 7 dollar drink in a hot spot is refreshing. It was a Suncruiser- a vodka spirit based drink- that was part of their specials for their night. maybe is more expensive on other nights when it is not on special? After the drink Conrand and I stepped into their floor. It was the first time we were there and it is basically a basement game room on whatever it is that Bane takes to make himself go from puny human to muscle-on-muscle-on-muscle villain. There is a lot of pool tables maybe like 5, and I saw ping pong, and other table games. Additionally, instead of a speaker or a recorder- the one's that spin old timey records- there was a band. I took a short video of the band but I could not tell you if this band was good or bad or their name or their style of music. I was partly present, and I just heard the music, I did not appreciate the performers. It happens. So Conrad and I play all the time together. And I saw a guy playing by himself. We quickly introduced oursevles and then we played pool. Here is the thing that I am happy to write about this place. Unline a regular bar with a pool table, where every one knows your name, this place had the opportunity to meet new people. And I enjoyed playing with this guy. He was a new challenge. He had fresh stories. And he offered a view of the world I enjoyed. So this place offers the opportunity to meet new people over a game of pool. If pool is your thing than this place will make you happy an if pool is your way of meeting new folks then this place will make you happy and give you opportunities to find the folks you imagine you need in your life. In the final analysis, I want to go here again, and experience the place more broadly. Not sure if I will write a new Yelp, because even though I bared bone this one, it still gives the primary messages I want to. And to the guy who I played with thanks for having a good time with me, even if it was short. And sometimes, short, can be just enough.

We were honestly falling asleep waiting for the actual entertainment to begin. The entire night felt chaotic from the moment we arrived. You spend time getting dressed up, planning a date night, driving downtown, and trying to be excited for the experience, only to park in a dark lot with feces and urine in the stairway. It was scary and disgusting. We looked past the parking lot situation because we were excited to enjoy our night out, but unfortunately the experience only got worse from there. The waitress kept pushing us to order more items, which made the whole night feel like a money grab. The food was absolutely embarrassing and nothing like what was advertised in the gallery photos on the website. It honestly felt like it came straight from Costco. Other reviews mentioned food being served on paper plates, and we can confirm that we experienced that too. The slice of pizza was literally Costco pizza. The pizza and snacks were cheap, low-quality, and nowhere near what you would expect for the price. It really makes you wonder how many people feel misled by that kind of advertising. There was also a complete lack of control and management. People who did not pay for reserved seating were hovering nearby, ready to take your seat the second you got up to use the restroom or go to the dance floor. We saw multiple people weasel their way into reserved lounge and table areas on the ground floor. At one point, a couple was even going through someone's fur coat and looked close to taking belongings before the actual couple returned. That alone says a lot about the environment and lack of security. The billing situation made it even worse. The waitress quickly skipped through the itemized receipt, which made it easy to miss that a 20% tip had already been included. We ended up tipping on top of the included gratuity and only realized it afterward. At that point, we felt completely scammed. We spent over $300, and the overall experience and management were absolutely not worth it. To be fair, some of the acts were great and the band was great. Separate from that, everything else was as mentioned. Between the deceptive billing, weak drinks that barely seemed to have alcohol, the delayed start, boring dance lessons, embarrassing food, poor seating control, and lack of management, the whole experience was extremely disappointing. I definitely do not recommend reserving seats, drinking at this event, or buying their food. Eat dinner beforehand and do not worry about arriving on time, because the show does not really start until around 10:30 anyway. We left feeling scammed.

This was my first experience with Vitello's Restaurant and their Velvet Martini Lounge. On Saturday…read morenight, a group of 7 of us took our friend here for her birthday, and booked our table in the Velvet Martini Lounge because she wanted to listen to the jazz. Mary was our server, and it started out promising, she greeted us promptly and took our drink orders. It went downhill from there. By the end of the night, the person refilling our water was the best service we got all night, because he came around regularly to check and refill our glasses. It seemed like because there were 7 of us, so she got an automatic 20% gratuity, she didn't think she had to work for her tips, but the service was appalling. Honestly, the room was only half full, so it wasn't even that busy. Service: We had a friend show up late, and it took a long time to get someone's attention to bring a wine and water glass for her. I kept trying to waive someone down, or hoped that Mary would come check in, but no such luck. When the food arrived, they just dropped off the food and left, they didn't asked if I or anyone at the table wanted pepper or parmesan for our dishes, or needed anything else. My friend sitting across from me finally got someone's attention that was walking by to bring some pepper, and after doing her plate, he didn't ask if anyone else at the table wanted any. So I stopped him from leaving and asked the table if anyone else wanted pepper or parm. Myself and another friend wanted parm, but we were half way through our meals before it came. We were at the end of the meal before Mary even came back to check back on us. We ordered another bottle of wine because all of our glasses were empty. Mary just brought it to the table, opened it and then walked off without refilling any of the glasses. For dessert, we ordered one dessert to share, but everyone decided we would do after dinner martinis. Mary took the order for 5 people at the table and left without taking my order or my friend's order for our martinis, so we end up having to wait until she came back with the other 5 martinis to order ours. Food: It was bland, underwhelming and overpriced. I ordered the chicken piccata. The capers were the only thing that gave it flavor, its a dish that I didn't think you could make tasteless. The noodles did not taste fresh, almost rubbery. There are so many Italian places around Los Angeles that are the same price or cheaper that have higher quality and better tasting food. I ordered a chocolate martini, and the alcohol wasn't too overpowering, and it tasted just like drinking a dessert. We ordered bottles of the Montepulciano that they had on their wine list, it was just okay, so if you are a wine person, then I recommend bringing your own bottle and just pay the corkage fee. Bill: They don't hand you the bill, which is a surprise for such a big group. They didn't give us the printed bill until we asked for it after paying. So when I checked it over, I was surprised that on top of the 20% automatic gratuity, there was also a 3.5% kitchen appreciation fee. Which I was told by the hostess as we were leaving you can ask to have removed before paying your bill. Doesn't seem like there is any transparency for that fee. It definitely felt painful to pay 23.5% in tips/fees for such appallingly bad service. Jazz: Saving grace for this place, that's the one star. Saturday night they had just a singer and a piano player. The singer's voice was beautiful and she took requests, so we requested La Vie en Rose before we left. She sang it in English vs. French, but she sang it beautifully. Vitello's has a great history, so if you are going to come here, then come here for the drinks and the jazz.

Still annoying. I got lucky and found a lot with one space left, but $20 for parking definitely deserves a mention because paying for parking is always a little painful. Even getting there an hour early, it was already extremely crowded. I was very glad I brought lawn chairs, a blanket, and snacks because while they do have food trucks, the food options felt pretty limited for the amount of people there. By the time I got settled, I was pretty far from the actual music. I could hear it just fine, but actually seeing the performers was another story. The vibe Now that part was absolutely worth it. Being outside on a summer night, listening to great music, surrounded by families, couples, friends, and beautifully dressed people just enjoying themselves... it really was such a vibe. Some people had full picnic setups with blankets, tables, food, wine, charcuterie, the whole thing. It was so cute seeing couples posted up, having their little summer night. And me? I was perfectly happy people-watching because I love an art crowd anyway, and adding jazz culture to it just made it even better. The style, the energy, the atmosphere... just a really lovely way to spend a night. Final thoughts If you go, come prepared. Bring chairs, bring snacks, and definitely expect a crowd. It may not be the best setup if your goal is actually seeing the performers up close, but if you're there for the music, the people, and the overall experience, it's absolutely worth it.
