I made a reservation about 40 minutes before arriving. I arrived and requested a window seat and was happily seated. Staff: my waiter was great. I dined alone and he made sure I had everything I needed, that I was comfortable, etc etc. Food: very good! I enjoyed every bite of my food. Atmosphere: so, this space is hard to call. There were people on leggings but also folks like me who were dressed up. This has been my favorite restaurant for 30 years, but with their growth quality has greatly diminished We had a dinner several months ago for five of us that totaled well over $500 and when everybody was plated and served, they had yet to serve my five-year-old daughter the steak that she wanted. It's improper etiquette to eat before everyone has been served and when I'm raising a daughter, it's important for her to know that we wait until everyone is served, it's my job to teach her how she should be treated. EVERYONE in restaurants knows that the one person you don't serve last or forget their food are the small children. Rookie mistake. Imagine how good the crab Rangoon would be if it actually had crab in it? For a $20 appetizer they certainly can afford to put crab in it yet they choose to use imitation crab. It doesn't say imitation crab on the menu so they are flat out lying to you. There is zero real crab in this. All this coupled with the 2 1/2% surcharge to now pay via credit card, just too much. This used to be one of the only nice restaurants at the lake years and decades ago, and everyone else is coming up and improving their game and hooks is stuck in the past. I wish that I had read the negative reviews before we decided to dine at JB Hooks. If I could give zero stars, I would, Honestly, I feel like we deserve a full refund for our meal after the way we were treated. My wife and I, along with my in-laws, our 5 year old son and 3.5 month old heard that JB Hooks was the place to go when visiting Osage Beach and decided to go tonight. We arrived at 5:15pm and they sat us at two high-top tables in the bar area since we didn't have reservations. Our waiter was nice enough, asked for our drinks and then followed up with our meal order. We ordered four salads and an additional item each (either a soup or side) and our son got chicken tenders. As we waited for our food, my wife noticed there was lipstick on the rim on her glass... then my mother-in-law noticed her knife still had remnants of food on it. We had both replaced. When the soups arrived, one was supposed to be a bowl but was a cup... the waiter said he'd bring out another cup to make up the difference. Then we waited... and waited... and waited. At 6:15, the waiter let us know that our salads were made, but the protein was never fired. So it would be out soon. Thankfully, he brought my son's food out as he was starting to be not so happy. Finally, we went up to the manager/owner and told him what happened. It was 6:45, we got there at 5:15, we ordered salads and still hadn't received them. He said he'd take care of it and box up our food. After the long wait, dirty cups/utensils, messing up our orders, never bringing our food out - they charged us full price for everything and our salad dressings were spilled all over the inside of our to-go bags. Not one comp or an ask about how they could make up for the lousy experience. I never write reviews but I haven't been this disappointed in a meal or service. Service is okay, however the hostess gave us a seat In the back when there were plenty of window seats open, a little upsetting. Mussels were a little chewy, and the White Wine sauce needed to be heavily reduced, still extremely strong taste of wine. Crab legs are cooked well but bland. Lastly the orange roughy was charred to fine crisp, in which was burnt. The dish was very sweet as well, a little hard for myself to enjoy if you not to big of a sweets person. Stopped in because the parking lot was packed on a Monday night and our first trip to this area of the Ozarks. After a 35 minute wait dinner did take almost two hours to serve and we basically shared a meal. The Crab Rangoon was passable, French Onion soup was great and but the Pork Chop with mashed potatoes was extremely good. The quality of food was disappointing. I had a wedge salad. The bacon was the exact consistency of rubber (inedible). Gross! The grooper supreme was tasty, but really, two small shrimp? My wife's king crab was cold and dry. The manager offered my wife a 50% reduction in price, for cold crab legs? JB hooks has always been our go to for a good meal while at the lake. Stay away. Unless you like ants in your food. Horrible experience tonight. I'm so sad. My friend and I stop in for dinner at 6:30. We order a drink and then have to ask if there is a happy hour menu. She says until 7. It was 6:30 and we wouldn't have received the happy hour menu had we not asked. We ordered 2 appetizers (ahi tuna, burrata crostinis & a Gregory salad). Salad shows up with lettuce, one slice of red pepper and onion & no provolone cheese. (Not the description we read on menu) We send it back and they put a small amount of parm cheese on top of the same salad. We decline the salad. After a few bites of the crostini and tuna a friendly ant visits my plate of tuna. At this point my stomach is in knots. I cannot finish the food or drink. We are still charged for a drink and the crostini. We leave a generous tip (not my idea) and leave. It's so disappointing these days as a customer, by the bartender and manager to really not care about what's happening but hey maybe they eat ants here! Beware. A very stylish old school restaurant that feels modern. Staff was very friendly and met our every need. The views to the lake make it feel very exclusive. My wife had a Buffalo Chicken Sun Dried Tomato Wrap and I had a Hook's Famous Crunchy Fish Filet sandwich from the Linch Menu. Both were outstandingly prepared and the portions were huge! My meal came with a raspberry tartar sauce that was delicious! Also my side of Sweet Potato Fries which were crunchy on the outside and nice an soft on the inside, we're perfect! Everything was reasonably priced and made for a great treat to top off our visit to the Ozarks. One small disappointment was that they do not offer steaks for lunch. Had dinner on a Monday evening and was blown away by our experience. Our party of 3 had a Grouper special, the Manhattan and the Chicken Gregory. There is a lunch menu and a dinner menu which gives you access to the top floor. The Black N' Bleu Pasta was beautifully creamy. The blue cheese salty and delicious. The tenderloin was cooked to perfectly and had a nice crust The view is stellar Their alcoholic drinks were all on the weaker side The bacon wrapped jalapeño were extremely burnt and nearly uneditable on its underside and should have never been brought out to the table. read more

We are visiting Osage Beach for a family wedding, and stopped in JB Hook's because we were hungry, and their sign in front of the restaurant appealed to us. Blown away!! Even without reservations, we were promptly (and politely) seated at a good table. We were quickly greeted by our waitress, who brought our drinks & took our order as soon as we were ready. We skipped the appetizers, so we would have room for the meal. And we chose wisely. We both chose soup: soup du jour for me (a delightful broccoli & beer cheese soup) & French onion for Hubby. Both were excellent. I had the Steak Woodrow, and I may never again truly enjoy a steak without returning to JB Hook's. Even though I ordered "medium well," and it was cooked exactly as ordered, it was one of the tenderest & tastiest steaks ever! The onions, bacon crumbles, & other toppings were the perfect complement to that great steak. Hubby had the salmon, covered in a caper sauce, which he thoroughly enjoyed. After trying to finish our baked potatoes, we decided against dessert; just no room left! The service was efficient as only a fine restaurant can do, there when wanted and invisible when not. The manager (or perhaps the owner) frequently came out and welcomed those at each table, took a few minutes to chat. That type of attention is what makes a good restaurant really great. I can't say that we will ever make the 10 hour trip back here just for JB Hook's, but if I spot them anywhere else, I will certainly stop in! read more

This place was soo good. I would definitely add at least 1 or 2 $ signs tho. Everything was super good, got Shrimp cocktail, Steak and Crab, Steak and lobster and turtle cheesecake. Everything was delicious. They made a good martini for my wife, the daiquiri was really disappointing, they took it back and got a glass of Woodford reserve and that worked well. Went for our anniversary to have dinner at sunset! The hostess asked if we had reservations which we didn't on a Thursday in November. She said the best she could do is put us at a bar table which was fine. All the high top tables were empty and she put us at a table with a Christmas tree and pole blocking our sunset view. This place was pretty good. It has a great views and the food was decent. I had some sort of tomato-something-or-other soup (it was a soup of the day) and it was very good. It was definitely the highlight of the meal and I wished I had gotten the bowl and not simply a cup. I had the catfish and chips meal as well and it was decent (minus the coleslaw which wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked). The homemade potato chips are very tasty and I quite enjoyed them and as alluded to the breaded catfish was pretty darn good. Portions weren't bad; my date had the po' boy sandwich and it was quite large. I had a bit of it and it tasted pretty good. My meal was of a decent size. Service was good and the price was good for a place with such a nice view. They had a guy singing in the other room and so we went into the room that's past the bar to escape the noise. I went with a party of 4 on a Saturday evening around 4:30pm. Originally, we were there for the happy hour menu, but it turns out that their happy hour menu was not worth it when the price of each item is close to the entree. So we just ordered the entree and we all glad we did. I got the Bam bam wrap, and it comes with a side (I got the green beams). The wrap was huge and their home made sauce was perfect! The server was also really nice to take care of our needs. At the end, we asked for the dessert menu, the server said there was no dessert menu but he gave us three dessert options: crème brûlée, carrot cake and lava cake. We chose the crème brûlée out of three and surprisingly found that the server said the desert was on the him. We were so happy and of course left good tips. The restaurant actually has three parts with three different price range of services. We stayed on the left end where there was a bar area and live piano performance, there was a out door seating as well. And this left end part is the most cost friendly part of the three. For this meal, the average cost is $25-35 per person. The middle part is a bit pricey the the left side, with a slightly different menu of selection. The right end is the fine dining place, the price range is around $70-80 per person. Over all we were so happy about our choices and the service of the restaurant. read more

Was looking for a place in the Ozarks with a water view and this was perfect. The happy hour seating extends from the bar to a dining room area with quite an amazing view. The staff was nice enough to let us exchange seats for this view after a party left. There was live music playing for the happy hour which set the mood well. The food selections was great as well. There are a lot of happy hour food specials and drink specials daily. The prices are more reasonable for menu items as well. I got a mahi po boy which was delicious and so large I had to share it with my date. Highly recommend. read more

We ordered takeout from here last night, and we had a delicious meal. We were pleasantly surprised to see they included the rolls and butter, crackers and spread, and after dinner mints. Such a nice touch to get all the accompaniments we would have received in the restaurant. My prime rib was excellent. Perfect cooked, tender, and flavorful. We loved the crunch fingers, and the crab Rangoon was so flavorful. We were also happy to see the children's sliders were made of freshly made patties and so juicy. You can eat and drink upscale for the same or less than the other big name, basic lake food places. We found this spot two years ago and had a wonderful meal there. So when the four of us were back at the Lake last week, I called to see if we could get in. The extremely rude young woman who answered the telephone said they were "fully booked this evening." I was calling around 4:30 p.m. - one of my friends asked me to ask her if it made any difference that we could be there in 10 minutes for an early dinner seating. So I asked. The reply was: "Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. We are fully booked for the entire evening tonight. Do you understand?" Well yes, I clearly understood then. I understood then and I and I understand now that you think I'm an idiot and don't deserve any of your time, oxygen or respect. That you don't want my business, or that of my friends. So we will happily oblige you and take our business elsewhere. I hope this was simply a case of someone having a bad moment. To think you would inflict that level of epic rudeness on your customers on a daily basis doesn't bear consideration. You are aware there are many, many other dining options for people at the Lake, correct? Or is it your goal to be the most rude, over-rated establishment on the Lake? If so your progress is commendable (and that's not a comment. It's called sarcasm - a skill your host staff seems most experienced in unleashing on your customers.) Happy Hours on the patio is a positive. Service was good considering busy- but make sure that you ask for silverware a couple Of times before your food gets too cold. Then steak that must have been rolled up in a towel with all the fiber hairs on it--- not edible at all and the manager brings it back to the table to question the issue. I don't mind paying for it. But truly questioning an honest customer... didn't eat the meal and still paid for it read more
