My wife, mother and two sons dined here on a Sunday night. Nice ambience. Food was subpar. Dinner salad was brown and appeared had been sitting for sometime as was soggy and very mediocre at best. Our main course took over an hour to come out and our waiter explained the wait was due to kitchen problems and offered free dessert prior to entree coming out. When we received our main course finally, items were wrong and worse yet, 4 of 5 dishes were cold. Spent $350 and had a nice view. Rest of it was terrible. read more

We stopped here on an impulse for dinner on President's Day. There are two entrances, one for reservations at the main dining room and one for the bar and open seating. We chose the bar. It seemed very upscale and we assumed we weren't dressed for main dining room. The place was busy and we all tables empty on only 4 empty chairs at the bar. We sat at the only two that were together. The bartender's service was fast and friendly. We got our drinks without any attitude whatsoever that I wasn't drinking alcohol and yes, that happens often. She also did not push any, which I appreciated. After a bit, a table in the corner came open and we moved there. It made it easier to have a conversation AND enjoy the music, which was very enjoyable. I loved the genre of music that night which was along the lines of American Pie, just good ole sing along songs from the 60's and early 70's. Our server was also quick and friendly. We settled on fried mushrooms as an appetizer; steak and salad with baked potato for me; and seafood Louie for hubby. The fried mushrooms were a little darker than I would prefer, but they still tasted great. I have to admit that fried mushrooms are one of my favorites. I expected some cheese in with them, but only a few had enough to taste the cheese. I'm not complaining, because the mushroom flavor was over the top. Unlike the usual whole mushroom caps, these were sliced and breaded. I'd order these again. The seafood Louie was huge and the man said it was "pretty good," which, coming from him, is almost a rave review. It was large, extremely large. Even the man couldn't finish it. It looked delicious. We probably should have shared that and been done. I ordered the 6 oz filet with a side garden salad, and baked potato with chives and sour cream. Unlike most restaurants that serve green onion and call them chives, these were real chives. I appreciated that. The baked potato was perfect. The side salad was large enough to be a main meal. I'm not a fan of commercially grated cheese on my salad and I wish I knew that was coming, so I could've ordered without it. The garden salad was very Outback Steakhouse-ish. I had some, but saved room for my steak. The steak had what they call maitre d' butter. I believe it's what is called krauterbutter in Germany and I love it. It's the best way to compliment a steak's flavor and not cover it up. They may have said 6oz, but it seemed larger. Someone may have served me the 8oz instead. Either way, it was delicious and melts in your mouth. Next time I am foregoing the appetizer and getting the one pound lobster tail. Lobster is my second favorite food and I haven't had a 1 lb tail in decades. The clientele seem to be middle class- upper middle class. No real barflies. 30-60 year olds. Dressed casually, but nice. Fun groups of 4-6 and a lot of singles at the bar talking to one another. We were surprised by a surcharge for ordering Jack Daniels neat. The waitress said there is one for on the rocks as well. Further explaining that both are heavier pours. There is also a surcharge for using a debit card to pay. All in all, I really liked this place. I liked it a lot. Took my wife there tonight for her birthday. She had the coconut shrimp, we both felt it was over cooked and she said it didn't taste good. We sent it back. The bill showed we were charged for the shrimp. The manger came over and said she had taken the shrimp to the cook would said there was nothing wrong. She said the owner, Bruce also agreed nothing was wrong with the food. I can't believe we were treated this way, arguing with us. After 20 minutes of drama they created, the shrimp was taken off the bill. Just a bad experience. We stopped in for happy hour one evening while at the lake and I am so glad we did! All of our food was fantastic and we ordered a lot for a very reasonable price! My favorites were definitely the New Orleans BBQ shrimp and the Hook's Crunchy fingers. They were both out of this world! It was some of the best BBQ shrimp I've had next to the dishes I have had in New Orleans. The crunchy fingers are white fish rolled in corn flakes, fried, and drizzled with honey and an aioli type sauce. Wow, they were fantastic! My son really enjoyed the crab Rangoon and the pan seared gyoza was also amazing! We also had the ahi tuna tacos, which I really enjoyed. Food was good and service was even better. We had a party of about 40 and they were able to easily accommodate us. I ordered the grilled salmon and it was great. Even the view from indoors was amazing. The best part was their honesty. I accidentally left my purse there and did not realize it until the next morning. On the surface, this place could easily fool someone who didn't know better into thinking they were at a good ("fancy") restaurant. But, to anyone who knows anything about eating nice food at nice places - everything about what they are serving at this place is a disaster. The "Oysters Rockefeller" that seems to be frozen precooked spinach with a suspiciously pre-prepared oyster (steamed? it wasn't served hot) laid on top, smothered so completely in a tinted mayonnaise ("remoulade" in someone's dreams) that one can only imagine it's simply to cover up all the sins that lay beneath? That's Oysters Rockefeller? Ever heard of a broiler? And then there was my scrumptious Prime Rib ... that couldn't be cut with a sharp serrated steak knife, let alone chewed up and swallowed without spitting out blobs of connective tissue. Said $50 steak..... was so terrible it was inedible. It was all gristle, fat, overcooked portions... what little meat was there and actually at the correct temperature was so laden with improperly rendered connective tissue, needed a saw to cut through. If you look at the piece of meat in my pic, you can see the amount of grey surrounding the actual "medium rare" area...this is representative of a high cooking temperature, which is the total opposite of how prime rib is prepared. It should not show any significant signs of a temperature gradient on the meat, it should be the same throughout - because it should be cooked low and slow. Google "prime rib" and click on "Images" to see what it's SUPPOSED to look like. It won't look like this garbage. After being served this embarassing piece of meat, I waited about 15 minutes with both my hands literally up in the air, held behind my head.... clearly not eating.......... and the waiter still wouldn't come talk to me.. . I had to tell the bus boy about my woes with my garbage quality meat well after it had become ice cold.... who then sent the waiter, who had me tell him all over again... who then sent the manager... who, again had me explain myself,.... while she was gyrating and quivering so erratically that I felt extremely uncomfortable (to the point that I wanted to get up and walk away)... she was sniffling with nasal drip so unbelievably much (while repeatedly coming about like a half inch away from my face, even as my body language kept telling her to give me some space) that she either had COVID or was blowing lines in the back before she came out..... and after her, some old guy followed up to ask me how it was. Did they ever get things straightened out? No, I had a baked potato for for my big fancy dinner in the Ozarks. My wife's "Orange roughy" was a joke. Ever heard of "seasonings"? Or "sauce" besides BBQ, Mayo and Ketchup? Oooh...and my "BLT Wedge" salad...that had literally 2 tiny cherry tomatoes on it? And a sprinkling of bacon bits? Hahaha. At least it was smothered in a blue cheese laden ranch dressing that was sinfully delicious. If you look at the menu, they also offer the wedge salad "Ranch style" where the blue cheese is replaced with ranch dressing and shredded American style "taco cheese..." and notice they call it "BLT" not just a wedge - maybe the type of clientelle who are 5-starring this joint need traditional dishes like that to be dumbed down with names like that (and covered in ranch and shredded Walmart taco cheese)....... What's up with the mashed potatoes? Do they come from powder? Do you add sugar to them? Why are they so terrible? And sweet? WTF? And the people giving it 5 stars? WTF? Have you eaten anywhere else before? It's funny to me that this is even considered fine dining. Sure, it might give the outward appearance based on table settings and how the wait-staff tries to behave... but I've traveled to at least 40 different of the US states and eaten fine dining all over the country, let alone world. The food here was probably the worst "fine dining" I've ever had. Garbage. A lot of the stuff felt like it was frozen/ canned/ instant. It was terrible. The creamed cheese and crackers that they presented as freshly made were OK. I believe it was KRAFT brand Tomato/Basil cream cheese from the grocery store, and prepackaged crackers. Don't even get me started on what seemed to be discriminatory practices that seemed to be apparent ... observing the obscenely obvious differences in service our waiter provided the more "ordinary" looking people surrounding us, the long haired weirdo with the wife who was a woman of color. I couldn't even finish my sentences trying to talk to the waiter before he dashed off, every single time... let alone get some fresh ground black pepper on my salad or my steak.... yet I would watch the same guy just chit chatting away at the tables next door and dashing in with the pepper grinder... even after I asked for the pepper grinder I had to get a bus boy to bring it. Overcharged our bill by $6 total AND instead of charging for the 3 prime ribs that were ordered, they charged for one prime rib and two ribeyes which are more expensive. So they overcharged our bill in multiple ways. Also stated that gratuity for parties our size was automatically added at 20% and instead charged 22.6%. The food was average at best. My friends and I were at Osage Beach for one of my friend's birthday, and we decided to splurge on an evening at JB Hooks. We had a delightful evening! I called the day before and made reservations; we asked for a table by the window, and when we arrived they were as good as their promise! It was dark s we couldn't see the lake, but we could at least see the lights across the water. The restaurant is lovely, with an expansive layout that has clearly been designed to give every table a lake view, not just those by the water. We ate upstairs, and there was a beautiful glass atrium ceiling in the center of the dining room. All the restaurant staff was very friendly. We especially liked our waitress, Chloe; she was very welcoming and attentive to all our needs. She led us through the menu choices and the day's specials and answered our many questions. She checked back frequently to ensure we were enjoying our meal, and when a small problem arose (see below), she handled it quickly and expertly. The restaurant menu is fabulous, with lots of great choices. I had the salmon bisque, followed by tilapia with two shrimp in a Grand Marnier reduction sauce, and Amaretto carrots. My friends had salads (a Caesar salad and Greek salad), followed by a branzino filet (really, half the fish!) in a mushroom cream sauce for one of them, and coconut shrimp over rice. They both ordered the brussels sprouts, which was the only disappointment of the evening. It took longer for the sprouts to come out to the table, and they may have run out of fresh, because their sprouts tasted like they'd been frozen and then warmed up. Everything else was DELICIOUS! I had a glass of Washington state Riesling which paired beautifully with my meal. Because it was my friend's birthday celebration, Chloe offered her a free dessert, so we split the crème brulee. YUM!! We will definitely be back to JB Hooks the next time we're at the lake! They have the BEST seafood in town! read more

The atmosphere was beautiful. We sat at the bar and waiting for our reservation. Ordered drinks and an appetizer, Crab Rangoon's, this was the only part of the experience we enjoyed. We continued on to our reservation. We both ordered Neptune Stakes. ​My steak tasted like charcoal, the asparagus was undercooked and flavorless, and the mixture of shrimp and crab had small pieces of shells in it. Appetizer was Hook's Famous Crunchy Fingers. I enjoyed the BLT wedge salad and my husband had the Caesar salad. For our entrees, I had the voodoo scallops with mashed potatoes and my husband had the Hook's Tournados with amaretto carrots. Since it was our anniversary we were served with our choice of dessert on the house. We chose the creme brûlée. Like I said we weren't disappointed with anything. Holy Moley! Where do I start!?!? Just fantastic! Luckily a local suggested this restaurant to us. We requested outdoor seating and absolutely loved the view and tranquility on the deck. It even rained and we did not get wet. The food was excellent. Period. We enjoyed about 4 apps that were on their happy hour menu, a small wedge salad and oysters. The kids got kids meals. Every single item tasted delicious and came out fast. Hands down the BEST was the crunchy fingers, so tender and crispy and tasty. My son let me have a bite of his kid's sirloin and it was perfection. The jalepeno poppers were crispy and great. Drinks were good, and service was great too--our server Greg was laid back and accommodating--he kept saying he was new there, but he was a true professional. Found myself on business in Iberia and decided out here for the restaurants and the shops. Came in and was amazed at how big it is now. Was here last year and wasn't this big. Added another bar and 2 rooms. Very nice I ordered the BLT wedge salad to start. Got the blue cheese dressing and wasn't disappointed. Salad was huge and delicious I ordered the Rib eye as my main, got it medium and they did it right. Steak was tender and perfectly cooked. A very nice piece of meat The baked potato was also very large and yummy. I hate a dried out potato and this was perfect I also had the amaretto carrots and wow. They were really good. I would make a reservation if you want to be seated at a low top in the main dining area; because we didn't mid week we still got in, but sat at a high top in the dining room. Food was mediocre (oysters, lobster tail and ahi tuna steak) and I have had the same items that were way better not at a seafood restaurant. Also the "market priced" items were ridiculous! Would give JB Hook's 1000 stars if I could! We had a birthday/retirement celebration here last night for my husband. Where do we start? The service was impeccable from the hostess stand all the way to the cutting of cake for dessert! The food was amazing! Appetizers were delicious...crispy fingers, shrimp and wings! All were a hit! Entrees were exceptional! KC strips, ribeyes, and salmon were ordered by our group. Rave reviews!! The beverages from the bar were awesome too!! Manager, Shelly, and our waitress, Jackie, were soooo wonderful!! Shelly worked very carefully with me the day of, to finalize the menu and make sure it was exactly what we wanted. She checked with us at arrival and at various points during our dinner to see if everything was going well....and it was! Jackie was extremely attentive, knowledgeable about all the offerings on the menu and very friendly and accommodating! The entire support wait staff was on point, as well...helping Jackie deliver food, refilling our waters and drinks, etc. Our group was very impressed with the service and food! Excellent job, folks!! They have 2 separate dining spaces, a downstairs & an upstairs. The upstairs is fancier , downstairs is more casual. We chose to dine upstairs. I had the filet with crab & shrimp & the Gregory salad. Steak was cooked perfect. The shrimp and crab topping had a very odd flavor, too much of an herb or something. It was overly powerful. The Gregory salad was actually my favorite dish. It was the best thing I ordered. My husband got the salmon and liked his dish. We got wings as an app. They were OK. So for ambiance, happy hour, and views- I'd say decent little place to stop. We booked JB Hooks for our 25th wedding anniversary. Kind of disappointed. We noted the occasion on the reservation, as requested on Open Table. For a 7p res, we waited a solid 15 minutes to get seated and another 10 to get acknowledged at the table. By the time we got our cocktail, it was well past 7:30. Escargot was good as an app. My grouper ($47 entree) wasn't. Bland, overcooked and shrimp that accompanied it was the same. We made sure to order two glasses of wine for our dinner entrees, but they showed up almost as we were finishing! That is always frustrating when wine is not served with the meal, as they should be enjoyed together. My husband did like the voodoo scallops. NO acknowledgment of our special occasion at all. For our main courses, my husband got the salmon, which was tender and not too "fishy tasting. " I got the filet mignon with crab on top. The steak was a perfect medium rare. I asked the waiter to have mine prepared a true medium and he said that the chef does not take special orders but he always gets it right. Well he did not, the medium steak was rare especially in the center. it was cold to the touch and deep red although was chard a little on the outside. It was sitting in a pool of blood on the plate. He offered to take it back but I am not good returning things to the kitchen. I wanted to enjoy our meal together so I ate the more done portion of the filet. All the other aspect of the meal were prepared well, but when you charge $55 for an 8oz filet it should be cooked right. The waiter apologised and offered a 10% discount on my steak, but really all I wanted was a good meal. We have eaten here in the past and it was good. So this is more for the waiter and the chef. Listen to your customers and attempt to get their order the way they want it.
