Push all 3 to the middle and let the festivities begin. The chicken is tender, sauce is tasty, and the mixture of all 3 just makes us excited about our upcoming trip. Just before you push yourself away from the table, be sure to ask if they have the Ube Crème Brûlée Cake. It's only available on the weekends and it goes fast. It's a purple mousse cake with a caramelized top. Light, so fun to eat, and it made us spoon fight to the final piece. I had thoughts of licking the plate afterwards, but I was on my best behavior. To sum it up and In the words of the Filipinos...Petmala! The inside tables are packed together so go early and get a seat. So let's start with the ambiance and the vibe of Yozora. It's in a fairly non-descript kind of center; not bad but not specially memorable. But the space itself is open and has an air of restrained sophistication. And then there's that hi-fi set up. The music at Yozora really is part of the experience, but it's not intrusive in the way that you'd think. Most of what my dining companion and I heard was 50s and 60s jazz, and it was perfect for the occasion. Sushi and Coltrane are a great mix, and even though we were not far from the hi-fi system, I could hear every word of our conversation, without the need for either of us to raise a voice. Somehow, it's like the music operates on a different frequency from regular table chatter. Suffice to say, the music enhanced the mood and really set a scene for Yozora's chefs to tell some stories. And that, they do really well. We started out with seasonal tempura and miso masu ceviche--ocean trout marinated in miso, soy, and lime juice--that was sublime. But funnily enough, the real star small plate was a truffle creamy miso soup that was earthy and slightly sweet at the same time and was silky in texture. From there, we ordered a series of crudo and battera, each unique in its own way. It was wonderful stuff, accompanied by a rice lager. The kitchen at Yozora is not shy about experimenting with non-traditional flavors and ingredients. Sometimes it works really well; sometimes, not as well, but it's never bad, and the servers actually ask for feedback for the kitchen, which is something I rarely see. Yozora honestly seems to be most concerned with creating a great dining experience, and it does that, from the chefs to the line cooks to the servers (who are helpful and attentive without hovering). Even when I took the leftovers home, it was still fantastic. The steam facial I received provided much relief from my mountain cedar allergies. We'll, after taking a few minutes to look it over, what we noticed what was a much smaller menu, with everything priced about 15-20% higher, for the same items. Huh? They had one Kids item, a $19 Turkey Plate and the lowest priced items for adults was the Sushi starting at $22. All of the apps were $25 and up, including the regular sized, and underwhelming Calamari. The menu was marketed as a special, limited time menu, but seemed like simply a limited, higher priced menu. My wife's Margarita was $17 and filled to the rim with ice. Just not a good value at all. I got the Steakhouse Burger and again, very underwhelming for the price tags of $29. My sons Fried Rice was $34 and was not a shareable item. If we knew this was the menu, we would have just waited at Ding How. My reservation did not mention the special menu and neither did the website, from what I saw online. Guess you live and learn...and I learned just to wait for what you really want.
