Ordered a pizza with mushrooms and onions. Got a plain pizza. The gentleman who took the order was careful of what we wanted. Pizza was cheese and no toppings. Receipt shows plain cheese, not the end of the world, just not sure what the counter man was writing. From out of town, went to the restaurant based on Yelp reviews. Learn a lesson. BTW pizza was ok nothing special and greek salad has never seen the contents of a real greek salad. read more

The first thing that hit me when I walked in this pizzeria was the heat. No AC, just pizza oven heat blasting everyone on top of the summer heat. The second thing I noticed was how dark it was in there. It felt like there was one light bulb for the entire room. There was a small child playing video games behind the counter and a woman who seemed very stressed out. Overall, not a great impression. My pizza just continued with this theme. Hot, but lacking in toppings, and not impressive. The crust was the saltiest crust I have ever tasted! I ended up throwing my pizza away. Time to find a better pizza place! When I called in around 7PM on a Saturday, the woman on the other end of the line didn't sound very pleased to be working. I ordered a single large cheese pie, she did say it would take 40 minutes. I arrived at the 35 minute mark as I didn't think it would take a full 40 minutes for a single pie to be ready. Boy was I wrong! I, along with several other orders, wound up waiting over an hour to get my order. I could see the staff was working, so I don't know if they were understaffed, but it seems like they only pumped through one or two pies per 10 minutes. The pie was cheaper than I'm used to, around 12 dollars for a large plain. When I got back to the hotel, it was still hot and actually tasted very good. If the wait wasn't so long for a pickup order, I'd likely give 4 stars instead. But service takes precedence over all, I will not be back for any more slices. read more

We ordered a large vegetable pizza which was loaded with the appropriate amount of fresh toppings, nice crisp crust, tasty sauce and quality cheese. Avoid this place. There were disorganized and very slow. The pizza was so so and expensive. I'd like to give them a second chance but I tried to call 35 times to place an order but all I got was a Verizon recording saying my call could not be completed because the line was busy. Sadly our favorite pizza place in Orleans, Zia Pizza, closed down within the past year. In checking the Yelp reviews, it seemed that Ames was going to be our best bet for take out. We scanned the menu and noticed they had MANY topping options and we decided on a chicken and caramelized onion pizza. The pizza was extremely flavorful.. nice sauce to topping ratio with plenty of delicious garlic! My only gripe was there was A LOT of flour on the bottom of pizza. Bordering on hard to eat as we made our way up the slices. I'd still go back because of the yumminess of the toppings, but I really hope they do something about the excessive flour. This is a review for Izzo's in Hilltop Plaza. Got an Italian sub for dinner tonight. In addition to all the listed ingredients I added mayo. It was toasted. Delicious! I have been a seasonal fan of this place since it used to be Hillcrest (?) pizza. It always struck me as a cut above the usual Massachusetts pizza standard, and it still is. I was impressed that another local place, Orleans Villa Pizza, offers "partially baked" pizzas. So if you're staying in a vacation place with a kitchen, you can pick up a pizza on the way home, let it sit for a bit until it's convenient to have dinner, and finish off the bake in the oven. Because we love Ames, we asked this summer whether they did anything like this, and to our delight they did. The pizza was perfectly baked, huge (barely fit in our oven!) and met our expectations in almost every way from past summers. The only problem, and it was kind of big, is the scant amount of pizza sauce on the pizza. I am sure I remember there being more, and I'm not 100% sure but I think they're using a new technique for applying it. They seem to be doing the "cheese everywhere, drizzle sauce on top" approach. I'm pretty flexible, but the amount drizzled on was approximately the same thickness as a normal layer of sauce, but due to the drizzle, only covering about 1/5th of the pizza. The end result, to my taste, is the pizza was only 1/5th sauced. It tasted "good" but not right, and it was way too cheesy (only because it wasn't balanced by sauce), kind of bland, and overall a disappointment. I'll be back to Ames because I've had such good experiences here, but next time I order I will ask for a side of sauce on the side. Especially if it's partially baked, I can "fix" it at home. If anybody from Ames reads this, please take it as constructive criticism. Your pizza is by far better than any others I've had in Orleans or neighboring towns. Whoever decided to cut back severely on the sauce, however, may not have the same taste for pizza as many of your prospective customers. I'm hoping the standard goes back to something more typical of a New York style pizza. One last note: I see another review titled "Thin sauce, not a lot of cheese" ... the picture associated with that looks perfectly fine to me. The sauce on that cheese is probably 4x as much as the drizzle (literally - streaks of sauce zig-zagging across the pizza) that we had tonight. read more

This is probably the best pizza I've had on Cape. Thin crust, hearty pepperoni, tasty sauce. It can be greasy depending on your toppings, so not for the faint of heart! They also offer subs and salads. Also available is pizza by the slice. They have three booths and two tables. Bottled beverages and are a short distance from the bike trail. read more

I realize that my pizza expectations are high coming from New Jersey, but this was a REAL disappointment. We took home a regular cheese pizza that was little more than what tasted like tomato sauce from a can with a light sprinkling of bland mozzarella on top (see picture). Ames pizza is such a great place to get great pizza. My family and I have gotten pizza to go numerous times and it has been delicious every time.
