I was grown and raised in Cupertino and this spot was always my dads and I's go to BBQ spot. We are frequent BBQer's ourselves but sometimes its just nice having someone else BBQ for you and JC'S is the best BBQ spot by far in the San Jose area. 3.5 stars. Good ribs. Ok sauce, but more sauce would help. I was randomly driving by and decided to get the 2 beef ribs and 2 chicken piece combo. One of the chicken pieces was a lot smaller than the other, I got a thigh and wing combo I bet. I wanted to try the links but never ordered it. The beans aren't very good. I would opt for another side, I guess the potato salad. Though the combo seemed like a lot of food, it was just enough to fill me up. The best way to describe this is "beware of a bbq joint that doesn't have smoke coming out". Ribs were tender and hot but the bbq sauce they were smothered in reminded me of a bottle of Kraft that's maybe been thinned out a bit. Chicken was slightly dry but not bad. Green salad had a wanna-be thousand island dressing. Didn't taste much garlic on the bread. This place is called "JC's Famous BBQ." JC's is a hole-in-the-wall type establishment in a run down strip mall. They are open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 10pm (according to their togo menu). Their choices of meat include pork tips, beef and pork ribs, bbq chicken, and bbq hot links. Their sides include green salad, potato salad and bbq beans. Go there for lunch! their lunch specials start at $6.95 for 2 choices of meat and one side. Love it! I usually go to this place later during the day and I always order togo. I wish they were open just a little bit later. Whenever I come here theres always at least one customer eating in. JCs gets five stars from me because I never have to wait that long, the fresh, warm meat smothered with their own bbq sauce falls off the bone, the bbq chicken is always most, i love GARLIC BREAD, the fresh salad greens and dressing and I like the way they make their potato salad. Their potato salad is thick, a little chunky, slightly sprinkled with celery, and most importantly to me, not too wet. I usually buy the dinner special and that costs $9.95. The price is no problem at all. I get soo full that I have to some some food for a snack or another meal later on. This little place totally beats Armadillo Willy's ribs. The bbq sauce is delish! As much as I like the ribs and the hot links here, the portions are wayyyyy too small for a $10 meal. I eat like a bird but their full entree didn't even fill me up and that says A LOT about how little their servings are. The meat on each rib wouldn't even be a full bite and the hot links is smaller than a hot dog weiner. However I must say that what I did nibble on was actually very tasty. JC's BBQ will forever be one of my favorite bbq places due to the restaurant's signature bbq sauce. Their bbq sauce is unique and has just the right amount of spicyness cure my cravings for spicy food, especially when it's topped on their hotlinks. I've been coming here since I was really young--a total of about 10 years or so now and I have never been unimpressed by the food or service. Every time I come I get the hotlink dinner, my personal favorite (if you don't like spicy foods I wouldn't recommend): 1. Hot Links 2. Choice of 2 sides: Potato Salad, Baked Beans, or a Salad 3. Oh my word. When a place goes downhill, it goes FAST. I seriously take back everything good I've ever said about this place. I went here in February and the pork rib quality was meh. Very fatty and not tasty. Being a relatively fair person, I went back again this week to give them another shot. The ribs were at least 50% fat. Not ripples of fat, but big greasy chunks. Ugh. The potato salad was terrible - like if you bought a ten gallon tub of it, this tasted like the cruddy bits left at the bottom. It was like nasty potato puree. The sauce also seems to have slightly changed - it lacks any flavor at all and is just bland and sweet. Basically, the majority of the meal was inedible. It was that bad. But the best part came 12 hours later when I became violently ill. Not only did it taste like crap, but I suffered from awful food poisoning for the next two days. Awful. Terrible. This place was just OK for me. I got the BBQ Rib sandwich, and it's loaded with meat and sauce. You can't even see the roll that the meat is sitting on because there's so much meat. The sauce is on the sweet side which was fine for me, but I'm more of a fan of the sauces that have more of a spicy kick to it. One thing to keep in mind if you plan on eating there. The table furthest from the entrance is right where an A/C vent is, so bring a sweater if you're not a fan of the cold air (even on a warm day, it's still a little much). read more

I don't write many bad reviews but this place deserves it! JC's BBQ is a fake bbq place, there is no real low and slow cooking happening here! If your goal is to get very low quality fatty ribs that I saw sitting on the counter in the back (who knows how old) that are boiled, thrown on the grill for 10 min and DRENCHED in sauce. BEWARE OF THE RAW PORK RIBS!!! I haven't been to JC's BBQ in years. I ordered the bucket combination beef and pork ribs to-go, which was the biggest mistake. The beef ribs were great but the pork was raw! I mean red/pink RAW!!! As I was eating the pork rib, I felt it was a bit chewy than usual. Something you woudn't question since the beef was so delicious. I glanced at it and thought it was just the bbq sauce but as I bit into it more the meat was redish pink!!! Their salad makes me giggle. It's just random bits of lettuce and some cucumber slices. Be a man and get the potato salad! I've been coming to this place since I was 16! The owner is always really nice, you get your food super quick, and of course I wouldn't bother coming here year after year if the food didn't kick ass! After years of driving by finally stopped in for lunch. I ordered the pork tips (pork without the bone) and hot links lunch special, $7 plus tax, which was pretty cheap. It look like the pork was boiled and they just put it on the grill when you order, chop it up and put some bbq sauce on it. I was kind of turn off after seeing this style of cooking method. When I think of bbq, I think of slow cook on a grill, not boiled meat. The meat was tender but it didn't have that smoky bbq taste I was looking for. My friend introduced me to this place a while back because he told me that it used to be the place that he worked at. He said that it was bomb bbq. AND I BELIEVE IT! I've been coming here since I was in my early 20's. When I am craving a cheap rib sandwich I drive all the way over here. Nothing about JC's bar b q is Real bar b q. When I asked to use the bathroom on multiple occasions. I noticed the boiled ribs in bowls? they were probably cooling before they were to be put in the cooler? Idk I saw a lot of boiled chicken too. When you order ribs they take the naked boiled rib and place it on their small horizontal propane grill located behind the counter directly behind the cash register. They char/burn/heat up the rib and then add commercial bar b q sauce on it on a bed of lettuce. There's your rib sandwich. I know it's not homemade from scratch. Because I am a gourmet cook/bar b q guru that cooks with fresh ingredients and spices and cooks from scratch. Nothing at JC's is homemade. The potato sweet salad is also store bought. If you look around they don't have an oven. Just that small horizontal propane grill to heat up. I bet the ribs, chicken would taste better if they didn't boil all the flavor out of them. The commercial sauce isn't homemade, but it's not bad either. I return just for the nostalgic tasting rib sandwich. It reminds me of my younger days and I don't mind the taste. I do ask them to char "burn" the ribs a little longer, though. Just so they can taste bar b qued. I've always wondered where they get their sauce from. They don't leave any evidence of labels, cartons around. It would really impress me if the sauce was their own and they just have a commercial business make it for them. My husband and I have been going here for years. In the begging it was great. Now it's hit or miss. Tonight we ordered the combo sandwiches with pork rib tips and hot links. The sandwich had so much cartilage in it we could not eat it. It had more cartilage than it had actual meat. The sand which is usually really good . I called to let the manager know and I could barley understand him. He yelled "we chop up everything!" He told me to not order it again cause that's how it is and hung up on me. Well we have had many of these sandwiches over the years and it has never been that gross. Nor has the service been so bad!!! First the manager is rude and has no common sense. It's ok if there is a little bit but it should not override the whole sandwich. Next, I don't know what he eats for dinner but when my family wants meat we want meat....not the chopped up cartilage. The beef ribs were HUGE, but I preferred the pork ribs which were more tender and had a higher food to work ratio. The chicken was moist and tender with good BBQ flavor. Holy Hannah these guys have good BBQ! My husband and I discovered Jc's one day before visiting one of our frequent Pho restaurants, Pho Long Thinh. It's super hard to see from the street since it's located in a seedy strip mall. I'm sure glad we stopped in because hands down this is the best BBQ I've had in the Bay Area (so far). One thing that I've noticed is that most places in the Bay Area don't use a lot vinegar in their BBQ sauce, which to me is a real bummer since it's such a key ingredient. Jc's definitely uses a lot vinegar in their sauce, which makes it extra tangy and yummy. As far as the meat goes, my husband said that the ribs weren't as tender as he would have liked them (he likes it when the meat falls off the bone) and I guess I'll agree with him on that one. A great little find... Last night my boyfriend and I decided to try this place. I've lived in the bay area for more than 20 years and this place has always been there for as long as I can remember. After hours of shopping, my boyfriend and I were starved-- to the point of being grouchy (you know how kids get). Our options were either Boston Market, Burger King, or JC's BBQ. I mentioned to him that I had always wanted to try the place but never really took the chance. The restaurant is located in a strip mall on Saratoga Avenue. It lies between a photography place and a tropical fish store. When my boyfriend and I walked into the place I noticed their HUGE sign that had everything from beef ribs, pork ribs, BBQ chicken, hot links, etc. and felt pretty overwhelmed. I asked the attendant, "Hi, this is our first time here. What do you recommend?" He pointed to the dinner specials that feature 3 combination options. The two that I remember was (1) 3 pork ribs, 1 hot link, and a side dish, (2) 3 pork ribs, 1 chicken, and side dish. All of these combos come with salad, garlic toast, and your choice of either potato salad or chili. This was all for $9.95 (a great deal!). My boyfriend and I each ordered combo #2, mine with potato salad and his with chili. I really enjoyed both but I really have to give them props for their chili. It really looks homemade with kidney beans, onions, and garlic... and the sauce isn't too thick like a stew. It's a little bit thin but so flavorful. The potato salad was also very good, not too mustard-y and sour. It was creamy with chunks of potato. The ribs were very good, very BIG. I got full after 2 pieces of the ribs and the chicken (also very tasty). It's so moist and tender that I could cut it apart with my fork. The BBQ sauce is more red than brown, and less sweet than Sam's BBQ in Campbell. It's a bit smoky and spicy... very, very, good. I look forward to going back again very soon to try the beef ribs. What comes to my mind when I think of BBQ is slow-cooked brisket, ribs, hot links, homemade coleslaw and potato salad -- just a hearty meal. So when my friend introduced me to this place and said it was "good" bbq, I was excited to sink my teeth into some brisket. But once we got there, their menu was not what I expected. It pretty much had everything EXCEPT the brisket. Instead it was chicken. For a BBQ restaurant, it's rather strange that brisket isn't the key meat.
