New owner, great food, ignore all the bad reviews. They are no longer valid. Potato salad is fire

I used to love this place but today's order was not great. First, I ordered 3 buckets of the beef ribs. Within minutes, the restaurant called and informed me they were short on beef ribs so we both agreed that he would substitute with more chicken, which was fine. However, the ribs we did get were tough and hard to eat. Used to be the meat just fell off the bone and were very tender. I'm not sure if it was because we got the last of their ribs and if I had waited another hour, we would have received fresh ones. In addition, I wish I had been more clear. He gave me lots of chicken to make up for the portion of the ribs order he couldn't fulfill. Only we had so much chicken left over, that I couldn't have given it away. Chicken was better and tastier than the ribs, but there was no possible way I would have been able to pass that many out to our guests. I would have preferred a reduction on the tab. I'll know better next time. read more

This was the worst bbq and should not be called bbq, it is not grilled or smoked and is covered in a very sweet watery sauce. Good bbq is served with sauce on the side and when served covered in sauce you are usually covering something up. Don't even bother with the korean wings..... they are just basic fried wings with no flavor. Now I'll move to the beans they are more like beans de la olla watery slop. The potato salad tastes like it comes from a container not home made. When I picked it up I asked for extra bbq he said they don't sell it and only gave me 2 sauces. I was getting my nails done for a Christmas party next door and wanted to pick up a quick lunch on my way home. I stopped in, not knowing what to order or what to expect. I was really pleasantly surprised! I ordered the pork tip lunch which came with garlic bread and a side. It was under $10 - which is an excellent value for the amount of food given. I ended up sharing. Plenty for two normal sized appetites! For convenience, taste, and value, I would recommend. There is seating, but I would consider this more of a takeout joint. read more

Ate here a few days ago with my wife, got the usual pork rib sandwich. Felt like they cheaped out on the bread as the sandwich was significantly smaller than what I have been getting the past 10 years, less BBQ sauce as well. I was told I was charged 48$ for everything without a receipt. When I got my debit card back the cashier wiped his nose and more than likely I felt a small gooey nose deposit on my fingertips. I saw my bank statement and It looks like the cashier added himself a hefty tip. Unprofessional as hell. If you miss Tony Roma's, you found the closest next best. The beef ribs are excellent. I cheat and bring my own Tony Roma's sauce. They don't have French fries but the beef ribs make up for it. They only have butter knives but they have plenty of napkins and wet wipes for your hands. read more

I remember first coming coming here at least 25 years ago and was skeptical because I noticed that they pre boiled the ribs before grilling them, so this was not traditional low and slow bbq but the ribs we're still delicious and tender, the smashed potato salad was addictive and the simple green salad with their house dressing was also a perfect compliment. Everything at JC's was no frills and simple and yet always tasty and never disappointing! Well last night will now be my last time ever coming here again! The newest ownership has failed keep any of the old staff so the food is a poor imitation of past versions. The pork ribs were tough and dry. The rib and chicken dinner special now only provides 1small piece of chicken not 2 pieces as in the past, The sauce is barely brushed on after cooking and the potato salad tasted like it was on the brink of turning..(inedible).Even the garlic toast felt like they started with stale bread. And the price has increased 30%. It's sad to see a business that has a history of providing so much pleasure and satisfaction fall so far. read more

Tender with a really good bbq sauce. It is more of a sweet bbq sauce. The potato salad is tasty. Beans are favorful. Pass on the green salad. And the garlic bread is good when fresh. Between 5-9pm the owners offer Korean dishes, like kamja tang, pork neck bone soup and many others. It's the best in California. The owners are korean and own other restaurants in the area. I'm def returning to try their other korean dishes and their BBQ. read more

We have LOVED JC's for a long time. A couple of years ago it was bought and under new management. We haven't gone since thinking the food quality was going to change. Last night we decided to give them a try. We called in an order. My wife repeated the order 3 times as the communication was difficult. When i went to pick up, it didn't look like our order at all. When i tried to bring to the lady's attention, she just pointed to the menu as if she was pointing out what we ordered. I heard my wife on the phone ordering sandwiches and was given the regular combo plates. Seemed like the beans were sitting in water. Granted, we didn't taste them as no one in the family wanted to try them as it looked gross and so watery. While the food was still good ( not as good as it used to be ) we wont go back as we think it is crazy to not have someone on the phone or the counter who can understand and communicate in English. We wont be going back but if you decide to go as the food is pretty good, we highly recommend that you go into the building and point your order out so you end up with what you wanted. read more

Ordered the 8 "large" ribs dinner combo that comes with a garlic bread and two sides for to go. Over $20. After getting home, realized only 7 ribs in the box and one of them is a tiny little rib. Also got a side of salad instead of the potato. The ribs tasted like they were boiled and just seared for the burn color with bbq sauce dripped on them. Hmm, was that considered bbq. Learned my lesson here, always check your togo order before driving all the way home to realize it is not right and complete. Looks like JC's Famous BBQ is no longer famous! My family has been eating here for as long as I can remember. My dad would even come here when he was in highschool. It's a little hole in the wall neighborhood spot, owned by a Korean family. The owners have changed over the years but still keeps the Korean American twist on their bbq, and the food remains delicious nonetheless. I don't eat meat anymore but I would definitely recommend the beef ribs and half chicken, that's what I'd always get!! Now all I can have is the garlic bread, green salad & potato salad but they're all delicious and filling enough to be a complete meal for me. Their bbq sauce is unique & very, very good. When addressed this issue to the worker we received the most unprofessional response that I have ever dealt with in my life. The food used to pretty good. This has been our go to bbq spot since it's close to the house. I love their baked beans not too sweet. Tried rib tips for the first time and probably won't order again. They were way too dry actually threw away half the order. Could be a hit or miss but wasn't good for our first try. Other than that their bbq is pretty good. read more

I tried calling to be on the safe side and their phone just rang and rang, no voice mail etc. Drove done here to find out they're closed. Good food but a bit disappointed in the lack of clarity from the yelp site and them not even having a vmail stating business hours etc. Looks like I am not the only one not aware of their business hours as a group of men showed up also when I was leaving. This would be a 2.5-star review, if I could, but I'm bumping it down to 2 because I have standards to maintain. This place has really gone down hill since it changed ownership a few years back. Not that there's anything wrong with the new owners, mind you. They're actually super-nice and very friendly which makes this review even harder to write, but like I said I have standards. That being said I do have some co-workers that love this place, but then again there's no accounting for taste. Here's my BBQ breakdown: Meat: The only good thing about this place is the Hot Links, but I'm 99.9% sure they're the Evergood brand you can purchase from any Costco. Which is fine, but when it comes to eating BBQ out I want something I CAN'T get at home, or something that would take me hours to make myself. The Chicken & Ribs are, well.. I'm gonna be nice and just stop myself. That should be sufficient. Sides: The nicest thing I can say about their sides is, "Meh" and we'll leave it at that. Sauce: This is the one thing that I can say is pretty good. It's a little sweet, but it's passable in a pinch. Well, I tried to be as nice as I could. I wish this place was better--I really do. My dad is in love with this place -- he says he goes here all the time after he goes fishing with his friends and its super cheap. So he decided to take me here for a late lunch. The place is pretty small, so its better to take it to-go. But no one was there when we came in, so we ate inside. We came a bit too late for the lunch specials, so we got the dinner special instead. It was pretty cheap -- i think like 7-8 dollars? We also got sodas from the fridge too. We got 3 piece rib and chicken special with garlic bread, salad and potato salad! The sides were all really freaking good. My dad and i each had a rib and split the chicken and the other rib. The chicken was soft and warm, but the ribs were slightly dry, but adding the bbq sauce makes up for it! We were both pretty full too! I will definitely be coming back. Like other Yelpers mentioned-- bbq joint w/o smoke coming out :/. -- think twice if wanted the real bbq. The bbq coated with lots of sauce which doesn't taste like homemade sauce to me. Need a lot of improvement on potatoes salad as well since it complimenting the bbq. Chefs/ owner -- try the armadillo willy's bbq & potatoes salad. This is **NOT** a typical/traditional American BBQ place, but don't just turn away yet--you might be in luck trying something new! Judging from the owner's accent I'd guess he's from Korea. The BBQ here is an interesting mix of Korean and American BBQ. The meat here is well-marinated in the Korean sauce (sort of like the bulgogi) then grilled instead of being put in a pit or smoker for hours. I ordered the beef ribs today and boy, generous meat with great a great Korean BBQ flavor, I would even up the game a bit more by putting some hot sauce on. I think I stuffed myself with great amount of protein that day. Do come in here some time and give this place a try. The owner is nice and quick about his food, I can tell he also takes pride in it even though it's a bit outside the box from what one'd expect from a BBQ place--so come and give it a try before you decide to turn around! read more

I was looking forward to loving this place, but for me it was just ok. I liked the little divey atmosphere for lunch and we went early so we could get a seat. I ordered the chicken and ribs lunch special. The ribs were very meaty which is nice for pork but also were pretty tough at some points. Nope. Not again. Tried it once and had the BBQ beef brisket sandwich and the two good things about it were the sauce and the bread. The meat was nothing to go bonkers over. Also!!! I've been driving by here for months and finally got the chance to stop in for a dinner. Had a quick beer while I waited (all of 5 minutes). I ordered the special which was pork tips, chicken and the hot links. It came with potatoes salad and French bread. No surprises here. Good sauce, good service, but most importantly, REALLY good BBQ!!! I'll admit the bread and potatoes salad weren't all that good, but those were extras I didn't really care for in the first place. This is my go-to restaurant when I do not feel like cooking for my dear hungry husband but I want something delicious to put on the table. The slow-cooked beef, pork, chicken and hotlinks are all tender and delicious. The combination menu is very satisfying. The BBQ sauce is spicy and savory without being sweet. The portions are ample as are the sides of salad, beans and garlic bread. Service is swift, the owners are courteous and the restaurant is clean. The cooking is done right in front of you.
