We grew up in Sandwich and were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this spot on one of our recent visits home. The interior is much more spacious than you would expect from the outside. The menu is a little funky, as you may notice since they specialize in both burgers and sushi, but to my surprise, they do both very well. I'm a sushi girl and my husband prefers a hefty burger, so this is a great spot to go with a group that might have different taste buds. Kid-friendly, as well. Since first discovering JD's, we've done a date night, a family lunch out and a few takeout experiences. All have been great. Every time we've gone to dine in, they definitely seem short-staffed, but the woman who has served us both times somehow keeps afloat even when waiting on the entire restaurant. We will continue to visit here on every trip to the Cape! Some of the best sushi in the area! read more

JD's has become another spot on our summer hit list. Not too many vegan options if you have them in your group but luckily there is a good offering of veg rolls and beyond burger. Otherwise we always get a heaping selection of apps- our faves being tots, Gouda mac n cheese bites, fried cheese curds, bang bang shrimp and the rangoons. BRING BACK THE PESTO GNOCCHI DAMNIT!! Rice bowls are solid as are any of the fish dishes. Plenty of burger varieties as well. Food comes out quickly and we have yet to have an issue here. On Cape for business--dying for a burger!! Boom! JDs! Sunday afternoon --sat at bar. Good selections of beers and bumps (bourbons). Ordered their smash burger--was delicious on a brioche bun. (Wanted medium rare--came out well done and a little on the small side.) The fries were terrific. My wife had a burger too--with sweet po fries--fantastic. Great food and very friendly service. The burgers are a perfect size, not too giant but thick enough they don't have to be cooked well done. The seasoned fries were excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and when she saw us eyeing the sushi menu, recommended a couple rolls since we had never tried their sushi before. The fish is super fresh; I'd get that roll again. Gave it four stars because I didn't love the ambiance. Bar seems nice to sit and watch a game but if you're at a table it has more of a fast food vibe than a place I'd want to go hang. This was our third time having a quick bite before our movie across the parking lot. (very convenient!) We were lucky that 'MJ', our now favorite bartender/waitress was on duty! My wife was having trouble deciding, but MJ made a suggestion for a customized sandwich that my wife is STILL talking about! I had the Alpine burger and it was cooked perfectly. One other thing I noticed is that the beer is COLD. Far too many times I've been at a bar with almost room temp beer. We didn't hold back and also had dessert. Also wonderful! The baseball game was on and since there are 4 or 5 screens along the length of the bar, we could easily watch while we ate lunch. 'MJ' was working the entire restaurant herself and it impressed us how much of a breeze it seemed to be for her. I didn't see anyone left waiting for anything. Weird place - odd combination. The sushi looked intriguing but we didn't order it. Hostess is "friendly-ish" but not as friendly as I would have thought. It seems like a local watering hole with a cult following, so get there EARLY or make a reservation (particularly when crazy tourist season starts!). Onion rings come frozen but are fried well, and the burgers were good, no complaints there. I customized a "bunnless burger" and the meat was delicious. Not sure I would come back on my own, but if my friends want to swing by, we definitely will (and make a reservation next time. Don't want to go into the penalty box...). read more

This is a good burger joint. It is located on the back of a strip mall near the heritage movie theatre in Sandwich, The interior is very casual bar room style but clean and well lit. They could use some cushions on the seats but otherwise it was fine. They actually have sushi as well and my dinner companions said that it was very good. I ordered the steak and rice bowl and I loved it. I also got a cosmo and it was nicely made and decent sized. My friends got draft beers. It was a fun place to eat that was tasty, casual, and did not break the bank. read more

It could be the greatest burger in the world, but we will not return. This place is outstanding. I dined here before the sushi bar finished construction and was surprised to see a sushi menu at a burger joint. I talked with the staff and learned that they collaborated with a legit sushi chef. I had a bigger and the following night tried the sushi and was amazed at the quality. JDs burgers are phenomenal. We stopped in for lunch on the suggestion of a friend. My husband got the mac & cheese burger. The burger and pretzel bun were really yummy and both tested fresh but unfortunately the macaroni and cheese lacked flavor and was very mushy. We also tried multiple sushi rolls. Spicy tuna- lacked spiciness and had cucumber in it. Which made us feel like they used a filled so they wouldn't have to properly stuff the roll with tuna. 4/10 we also got the Philadelphia, same thing used cucumbers as a filler. 6/10 the salmon was super fresh. We got the shrimp tempura, and that was excellent. We tried a specialty roll as well, the pink crunch. We got it without mango due to a allergy. It was good but didn't have the spicy flavor we wanted. The pineapple was very overpowering in it. Our waitress was also the bartender and she was helpful, patient and funny. I will add that the place needs a good deep clean. The table rack with soy sauce in it was dirty. The soy sauce itself had nasty dried sauce running down it. The bathroom was also dusty and looked like the walls have never been wiped. read more

It was not edible, which is a bummer considering that was about $30 (16 pieces...over 25% of our order). We came here on a whim. The restaurant we originally intended on going to was on an hour wait, so we had to quickly pick another restaurant in the area, as we only had a sitter til a certain time. Scrolling through the local restaurants in the area left a lot to be desired. Great views, but basic food. Then we came across this gem. Burgers and sushi seemed like an odd pairing, but it was fantastic! We chose two rolls and a burger to share. Some of the best sushi I've had in years. What a gem! Looking for lunch, my husband and I found JD's sort of by accident. He wanted a burger, so he was immediately sold. Although I was not in the mood for a burger, the menu has a great assortment of chicken and turkey sandwiches, one sounding better than the other. My husband said his burger and the accompanying seasoned fries were amazing, and he can't wait to go back. My Baja chicken sandwich was also so good: avocado, mango chutney... seasoned fries... Spectacular little restaurant here in Sandwich. Superb burgers and just truly miraculous sweet potato fries. If you followed any of my reviews over the last several years you know the sweet potato fry is an essential to me. That said there is no question these were by FAR the best I have ever had to this point. Simply stunning a truly crunchy outside layer with an incredibly sweet and soft inside.
