I admit that I'm struggling a bit on my star rating for JD's. I actually feel like it deserved 4 stars if the issues other reviewers raised here are considered -- my server was such a sweet and attentive server from Bulgaria who was incredibly fun and knowledgable of the menu. We visited on a busy Saturday night, and there were no delays at all. The food was in large portions and a good value. It's true that there are so many other good places to eat in Ptown -- so I had to give 3 stars on food quality when compared to the other good options -- but I encourage you to take the reviews here lightly as they were not true of my experience. And I also enjoyed the warm flame heaters on the patio on a cool Ptown evening. My friend enjoyed the oyster variety platter, and it was quite large and diverse. We then shared the fried seafood basket which consisted of a variety of fried seafood that tasted freshly battered that was accompanied by french fries. I also liked the clam chowder, and thought it was just as high in quality as nearby options like Lobster Pot. There are other good options in Ptown, but this place is a nice setting on Commercial and fun. I recommend it. read more

BUYER BEWARE (Takeout). We ordered 5 rolls and chicken wings on Tuesday night. I was in a rush to get back to feed the kids and I realized when I got home that I wasn't given a receipt to sign. When I emptied the contents of the bag, I found the receipt. I noticed that they added an 18.5% service charge which came to around $18.00+ to essentially hand me the bag. When I ordered my food, there was no mention of a service fee. I looked on the website and there was no mention of a service fee. I understand that during Covid times- if indoor dining is not an option you want to take care of the staff by tipping nicely but indoor dining is happening there and I would have liked a choice to add a tip myself and sign the credit card bill.I called the restaurant and asked for the manager who was not available to discuss this further. They assured me the manager would call me back. I left my number and no one has called me back as of yet (48 hours) so at this point it is fair to right a review. As far as the food, the asian wings were great but the sushi wasn't great. The spicy tuna roll was mushy/no texture of fish at all so there's that. read more

I went here to try my first lobster roll and I enjoyed the sandwich. What they got right- The sandwich, my first lobster roll, though I do not have a reference point and I rate the sandwich a 4. Also the sandwich comes with fries and coleslaw. Sandwich plate comes complete and I rate it a 4. What could be improved, the beer on tap is not cool enough. Also, the service was lackluster and our server could barely answer questions. Rather than know her job or get definitive answers, she would just reply, "I don't know". This is why I drop the rating to three. Service is a big part of dining out. I don't like surprises with my meal. For instance, I asked about the fries, she told me wedge cut fries. I got string fries. When I pointed it out, rather than correct it, she shrugged and turned. I think I will try service elsewhere. There are lobster rolls and other dining options on every other corner and in between. read more

Cute little place! The weather was lovely so my sister and I enjoyed lunch on the upstairs balcony. We got to people watch, listen to the piano bar across the street. I really really want to love this place! I have been here a handful of times while in town and honestly have never had a bad meal. Pizza, sushi, and apps have all been great and we have also had great servers. Unfortunately I'm pretty turned off by what happened this past Saturday when ordering drinks at the bar. We just finished up dinner and moved to the bar for some drinks. The bartenders seemed like asking for a drink was an inconvenience for them and just were not super friendly....I mean no biggie it wasn't enough for us to leave. My friend paid for the first two rounds of drinks and when I went to pay for a round I was kinda thinking 43.00 was kinda high. I happened to notice that the bartender added a 20% tip (which would have been on the previous screen for me to pick the amount). I was pretty annoyed and long story short spoke to the manager. He was very nice and apologized and said the bartender did it by accident. I informed him that the bartender told us it's automatically added to each bill, which obviously is a complete lie because after I inserted my card for dinner it gave me the option to pick the amount. He ended up buying our round which again I appreciate his kindness. Sadly a couple days later my friend checked her charges from the previous drinks and overall the girl added about $30 in tip herself without my friends knowledge. Don't get me wrong I do not mind tipping but I don't think her intentionally adding it after we swiped our card is acceptable. Just beware if you go here! read more

We were looking for some simple fried shrimp and saw that JD's had it on their menu. Boy! Were we so happy with our orders!! The fried shrimps were more like jumbo shrimps, they were cooked to perfection and soooo fresh!!! Such a pleasant surprise! we were so pleased, that even with all the other restaurants that P-town has to offer, we found ourselves back for dinner the next night and we had the same results! So on our weekend getaway, my boyfriend and I decided to try JD's while on a mission to find another restaurant we had no luck finding, until after we left JD's... go figure. Anyway, it is interesting that it serves pizza and sushi. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was awesome. She was super nice and we chatted with her a bit while we were there. We began our weekend getaway with a Super Coronarita. It was huge and a great start to the weekend. We decided to go for the buffalo chicken pizza. This was one of the best I've had in a while. Located next to Town Hall on the second floor (overlooking crowded Commercial Street), this newly opened restaurant is a welcome addition. Went out to eat here with some of my boyfriends' family. My boyfriend and I are both vegan and were excited that they actually had vegan options! I got a pizza and he got a veggie burger. Our waitress was nice but pretty impersonal - not something that bothers me but someone at our table pointed it out. Everything was done thru a tablet, no conversation etc but she seemed nice. Lots of seating. My pizza was good, just seemed like a Daiya pizza and my boyfriend's veggie burger was cold on the inside. Not super impressed with the food but its just a standard dive bar/eatery and the location is good. Went there 2 times, the first time got pizza which was average at best, and our waitress barely spoke and gave us no time to think about our order. We were served our water in small dixie cups both times. The water also tasted like it was straight from a prison toilet. Stupidly, we chose to return, and I ordered the veggie burger, which was mushy, undercooked and not good. $14 I will never get back. We simply ordered water after we sat down and it was never brought over, we had to ask for it while we were eating and the "waitress" didn't seem to care. We stopped in here for pizza and to watch the soccer match last night. It was the only place in P-town showing the match! Fortunately for us, the food was pretty good. The buffalo wings were so-so. They weren't cooked enough for my liking (the skin was still mushy). My husband seemed to enjoy them. The fried calamari was excellent! And it comes with fried banana peppers too. Bonus! I love p-town we always have a great time and love the restaurant. This place has some of the worst customer service I have ever come across. We when up to have a drink and some oysters before our dinner reservation. We took two sets at the bar i ordered a beer and my boyfriend ask for a drink was told that he would not make that for him because it would not taste good. First red flag, next we get our wings and oyster the oyster were not cleaned right. The wings were ok at best. Then to top off the whole experience I have half my beer spilt on my by the bartender. He through some napkins at me and said sorry and walked always. He just act like if never happened, did not offer to replace the beer or anything. Then we ask for the manager she was worst then her lazy rude bartender, she told me to go dry myself off under a hand dryer. Beware of Tipping charges!!! When charged for our meals, for a group of three, there was already an 18% tip charge included ( in very small font )!!! We asked the waitress about this and she just rolled her eyes and simply did not respond. My friend had not noticed so he ended up overpaying tip. Even worse considering the service by this waitress was mediocre at best. I think this is a very deceiving business practice, and given the poor service and average meal, I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. I have never seen this type of change for such a small group and any reputable restaurant would let you know in advance. read more

The only thing, in my opinion, which warrants a 1-star review is endangering the health of its customers. As a resident of California, I am quite used to restaurants requesting that you only order water if you plan to drink it (due to the drought), but never have I experienced a restaurant refusing to serve (water without purchasing a bottle) until JD's. My boyfriend has a health condition which requires consumption of water after food (to prevent choking, which is a common condition) and at JD's, I had to purchase a water bottle and sneak into the bathroom multiple times to refill it throughout our meal because this institution refused to serve water without purchase. This is completely unacceptable and I'm shocked they have not been reported to a health agency as a result of this practice. I still tipped the waitress well because this policy is not the servers fault, but the management should be ashamed of forcing their servers to follow this abhorrent policy which takes advantage of its customers to save a dime on its water bill. My friends and I were in Provincetown for vacation and were looking for a place to eat and drink. We sat at the bar and the bartender indirectly mentioned to the other bartender we needed to put tops on. We were in our bathing suit tops with shorts on as we had just spent a few hours at the beach. It was really weird because they never directly told us and after an awkward minute I had to ask so do we have to leave? There was another lady in a bathing suit top having a drink at the bar but I'm guessing because it was a different style they allowed her. There were a few guys without their shirts dining there too. I understand if it is a policy but it should be applied to everyone not just some. Will never be back here and do not recommend to any of our friends and family that vacation here. read more

Both times I got the vegan pizza with cherry tomatoes, garlic, and basil.Pizza was very good, but dry - vegan cheese doesn't have the same fats, so more sauce is needed, to keep it from drying out. Cape Cod offers little in the way of plant-based restaurant food options, so it wasn't surprising that JD's didn't have a lot to offer either. regardless, in the end, we were able to have a pretty satisfying meal. to share, my boyfriend and i ordered a vegan primavera pizza (they have daiya cheese) and a basket of fries along with a "medium" beer each, (the beers were huge!) the fries came first. they were classic shoestring fries which i love! the pizza came not long after, which had some dubious looking circles of mozzarella-type cheese on it. when we asked our server, "this is vegan, right?" she blankly replied, "yes." we finished off our fries and with doubt were just about to dig into the pizza, when our original waitress came by asking if everything was all right. we expressed our reservations. she confirmed that there was cow cheese on the pie and took it away to bring us a vegan version soon after. hitch aside, the final product ended up being pretty darn delicious. the thickness of the crust was a happy medium somewhere between deep dish and thin crust. it was cooked until just moments after the first char appeared. the amount of cheese was spot on; just enough to taste it. the toppings were cut uniformly and not overwhelming. great combo of flavors. like i said, in the end we had a pretty satisfying meal. with the limited options on the Cape, we'd probably return to JD's. read more
