This is one of the worst club experiences I've ever had in New York. I visited Jean's (the club, not restaurant) for the first time on Halloween 2025 with tickets. The staff/bouncers were extremely rude and patronizing to customers who were waiting in line with tickets to the event. I noticed them singling out solo women in line who were (presumably) joining friends inside or just out for the evening, yelling at them to "go home" and claiming there was "no chance" they were getting inside. After waiting two hours to get through the doors (to an event that we got tickets for), a bouncer made his way through the indoor crowd yelling (barking) at people to move to different areas of the bar. I've worked in the food service industry for 3+ years and have lived in New York for nearly 7 years, and this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had out, period. I've visited Jean's a few times post-Halloween with friends and still have not had a measurably nice experience. Would not recommend this place to anyone read more

I got to say when I walked in the hostess was a sweetheart aesthetically. The place looks really nice nice ambience as well, but the service was horrible for some odd reason the waitress kept on giving us a very nasty attitude, almost like she didn't even want to be there, regardless definitely not coming back here for the food or the customer service. Don't come here hungry. My trout, while not bad, looked to be starved and not at all worth the $40 I paid for it. Something as simple as bread with a small portion of butter is $14, and cold. My girlfriends pasta dish was entirely bland and together only ate about half of it. The ambiance was good and that's this places only redeeming factor in my groups eyes. I love the club downstairs so I decided to try the restaurant. I was prepared to be underwhelmed as it is slightly "sceney." That was, however, not the case. The interior: beautiful. The staff: very kind. Best burger I've ever had (especially in a sit-down restaurant setting). The fries were amazing. The bread even was insanely good. The drinks (Get the French 415, it's delicious) amazing. The food itself isn't as expensive as you would expect however the drinks will rack up your bill (also bread is not complementary it costs like $11). However, I cannot wait to go back. Let's start from the beginning. The website for the restaurant is unusable on mobile, doesn't have a menu, nor a phone number with which to contact the restaurant. Not a great start but also not a death sentence if the food is stellar (it is most definitely not but all in due time). We (a party of 7) arrive at the restaurant and are seated relatively promptly at a table fit for at most 6 if you're squeezing. Our orders are taken and then begins the first of many long waiting periods that occurred during our 2.5 hr meal on a Sunday at 6pm in a half empty dining room. Somehow the lobster roll arrives before the cocktails, and it's decent but tiny and not worth the arm+leg it costs. Drinks arrive after and are also meh. The rest of the apps then slowly trickle in and are certainly nothing to write home about (crudo was actually flavorless, kale salad was alright, tuna carpaccio was fine). The shrimp cocktail we ordered must have taken a wrong turn out of the kitchen because it didn't arrive until after the mains were being cleared. Let's get to the mains. The burger was tasty to be sure, but the cheese fondue stuff on each that came was cold. The French dip was also fine, but the cheese was also cold. A member of our party ordered the salmon cooked all the way through and it arrived at the table basically still swimming. Also, they listed one of the vegetarian options as available only for it to not actually be. It all tasted just fine but the cost of each dish is astronomical considering what you actually get. Another issue with this restaurant is the service. It really seems like they are wholly uninterested in actually serving people. When asked for recommendations for mains, our server could offer nothing more than "they're both good, one is a sandwich and one is a burger" when differentiating between the French dip and the burger. How illustrative. Furthermore, when asked to offer an opinion on the crudo vs the tuna carpaccio we got this gem: "the tuna has been on the menu longer". Great, I'm so glad to know that, now which one do you prefer? I originally gave this a two, but as I was writing this I remembered that during desert (for which we brought our own cake which they then proceeded to charge us $7 a person to serve, not cut, but just serve and place on our table) they gave us a fork covered in crusted food (how nice of them to offer a free after dinner snack). TLDR: insanely overpriced, food meh, service terrible. Came on the suggestion of the infatuation which gave it an 8 (how did that happen???). Waited for an hour after my reservation time and was never seated so I decided to leave. When we arrived 5 minutes early for our 9:30 reservation they said "our table wasn't quite ready yet" and asked us to wait five minutes which we were happy to do. Waiting a full hour and the hostesses failing to provide accurate timelines/explanations as to why our reservation time was not being honored is inexcusable. However the food is good compared to some club restaurants... although the sandwich was good it did remind me of a medieval peasant lowkey because I was dipping it in broth lmao. They also did not have the cookie when I went which was disappointing! I had severe FOOD POISONING after eating here and would give it zero stars if there was an option on yelp. I ate the burger as my entree and as soon as I left the restaurant I felt very, very sick and couldn't stop throwing up. The next morning when I emailed. the restaurant informing them about my experience, the manager emailed me back saying when I come next time they would send me gifts to make my experience memorable. So if I could honestly give this less than 0 stars, I sincerely and truly would do so. The lounge part associated to the restaurant that leads towards the lower area, there was someone who was a white lady and I assume she was a security guard for the area was sadly showing blatant and strong levels of racism towards me and my entourage. She was giving us different reasons as to why she refused to let us in from: "I don't know who that is" when I told her the name of the reservations, she also told someone from the restaurant who also asked to let me in that she couldn't do it and make exceptions for us However, she blatantly let white people inside whilst staring at us refusing to let us in. Even the black security guards was scared to say something because they didn't want to risk getting in trouble. We also have video footage that will be tagged to the page for having RACIST employees. In all my years of living in New York City for 28 years, I've never dealt with blatant racism like this in a very long time and this needs to be handled accordingly and employees need to be retrained appropriately. read more

My wife and I decided to try Jean's with a few of our close friends and were surprised mostly by the service. We ordered drinks - three cocktails and a glass of wine - and the glass of wine took at least 10 minutes later than the drinks and we had to follow up. Waters were left unfilled. Everyone's plate was cleared while I was still finishing my meal. The service overall was not an elevated experience. The food was decent, the burger being the standout. I'm obsessed with this food. I went once in December for dinner and then again last week, they leveled up 10000x. This has been one of my fav nightlife spots this year but they just dropped the new summer items and they're all NUTS. I have never been so into carrots in my life. I like white fish but usually it's not my first choice - but the fluke would be my 1st pick if I went back. They source most of their food from a farm in PA and not a single dish missed the mark. Espresso creme brûlée lives rent free in my dreams and their unique purposing of mezcal had my mezcal hating friends ordering MORE. We had a horrible experience. First you have to "request" a reservation for the weekend. Eventually i got an email securing a date and time. Got there a couple min early to enjoy drinks at the bar. The hosts told us to wait at the bar for our table. The bar tender was great and made us unique drinks. 15 min after our reservation was schedule for we checked back in. Finally a host came and tried to seat out by the door not in the main dining room. If we wanted to sit in the main dining room we would only have an hour. Which if they statued us on time it would be an hour and 15 minutes. We eventually got seated in the main dining room mind you since we got there, they had many open tables. I asked for a change to one cocktail they said they don't do that, the pre mix batches. Asked for no horseradish for the drip they said no it's premade. Asked for ketchup for the burger they said no. Which that being said the bus boys were in credible. The tuna was fine, nothing special. The burger was extremely rare and they refused to ask us how we wanted it done.
