They have good food but they just jacked the price up on everything. Used to be $7 for an elk brat, now it's $16. That's ridiculous for what this place is. I'd much rather eat at the shaggy sheep in grant. Prices are similar but it's actually a sit down restaurant and the food is better. read more

After years of driving by this place, I FINALLY got to try it. What a good decision! Great burger, amazing fries, and good elk sausage. The folks manning the stand were super nice too making the whole experience fantastic. It's cash or check only but it is so worth it. YUM! read more

We stopped here because of a sudden torrential downpour and were totally surprised by the delicious food. Had the pulled pork sandwich. As good as anywhere! The owner came out to our car with a menu and then delivered our food during the rain. He was delightful and charming. So, if you read this...Thank you! Stopped for a pit stop and a coffee. 25¢ to pee, oook. No big deal. Occupied, I waited, young woman stumbles out. Gulping the fresh air, she gasped, "it's like a horror movie in there!" Laughing, I enter. Flies buzzing in the window, floor wet. Ew, but can deal. My friend is a world traveler, I'm a cowgirl, we wear boots. So I rolled up my jeans and approached the commode, now desperate. As I hover and open the floodgates DOZENS of flies fly up out of the commode and swarm my lady parts. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. NO. This was too much, not acceptable. Flies hanging out in an open sewer don't touch my goosh. My traveling companion was also horrified. Conversation: "Christ was a cracker, I've peed in horse stalls cleaner than that." "Dude, India was cleaner than that." "I don't wanna eat anything that comes out of that kitchen if that's how they keep their bathroom." "Yeaaah, let's go somewhere else." So we did! Signs on the building implored us to pay our 25¢ toward the $12,500 annual maintenance of the bathroom. All I can say isss if it costs $12,500 annually to maintain THAT, uhhh maybe it shouldn't. This place looked like a quaint little family roadside restaurant in the mountains from the outside, and I really wanted to love it. My husband ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and bacon, and I ordered a veggie burger with cheese. While we were waiting for our food on a picnic table near the kitchen, we noticed that the kitchen manager was in a rage, yelling constantly and very loudly at the employees, who all appeared to be around 14 years old. His anger was obviously out of proportion for the things he was mad about (i.e. a hot-dog he prepared got cold before it was brought out to a customer, the girl at the cash register did not ask what kind of cheese someone wanted on her burger). It was so uncomfortable to sit and listen to him verbally abuse the young employees that we almost got up and left before getting our food. One of the kids who worked there apologized for the yelling man and said that he is always like that (some comfort). My husband ended up receiving his grilled cheese without any tomatoes or bacon on it, but we were too scared to complain because we thought the yelling man might take it out on the kids. One of the kids noticed that my husband had the wrong order and sheepishly brought out another grilled cheese, this one with tomatoes but no bacon. The kitchen manager obviously has some anger management issues that need to be taken care of as a priority before he continues overseeing workers, especially young workers who might not know that this is not an acceptable way for anyone to be treated. I hope that others who hear this happening before they order will take their business elsewhere, as I wish I would have done. We need to send the message that, no matter how good the food is, it is more important to treat employees well. read more

This place has the best burgers and BBQ! I just happened to stop by when I was hungry, (have driven through this area several times but haven't ever stopped to eat), and was so surprised at how amazing the hamburger was. Solid beef, toppings, and bun. So on my next drive through this summer, I made sure to stop and try their BBQ. Equally impressive. And judging from the number of motorcyclists that were there, it's no secret for them. read more

We spent the weekend camping near Jefferson Lake and decided to we needed some ice cream for the kids. After seeing others eating the burgers we ordered them and they were great! How many times does a roadside hamburger stand exceed your expectations? The ice cream was also very good with big portions. We will stop here again for sure. I agree with other reviews, skip everything else in Bailey, Conifer and everywhere else along 285 and hit this place. Excellent! read more

Had the pleasure of lunching here on Sunday 8/25/2013 We had been camping for the weekend when we left we decided to stop here . The place caught our attention when we had first arrived a small building and it is usually the little Mom and Pop places that have the best food . It is convenient to place a decent restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The ice cream in good but the shakes are a little thin but still worth it. They have unique items that you normally wouldn't see such as sour kraut overall I recommend this place if you are on the way to a town like Buena vista or salida read more

Always good! A little, and I mean LITTLE, joint on the side of the road in Jefferson, but don't let that fool you. It has always been a family favorite to stop by when driving through and get some ice cream. Make it a point to stop in next time you are going down or up Kenosha. read more

We sure wished we had stopped here instead of the Jefferson Market, which is across the street. The Jefferson Market is probably the wrost place we have ever eaten. Rude service, 45 minute wait for a grilled cheese. The staff yelled at us and many other customers. Next time, we will definitely stop at the Hungry Moose for lunch! read more
