I got quite a good laugh at Jeffrey's Hillside Cafe. I'd been searching for a breakfast place in Santa Rosa and came across them on Yelp. Upon arriving, I'd realized I've been here before! To my delight, both times I've been here have been good! This is definitely a place you want to arrive early to or be prepared to wait in line for. The seating inside is limited and man... people LOVE this place! The service was wonderful! For breakfast, I got the "French Toast Combo: Texas toast with powdered sugar & strawberries, two eggs, any style, with bacon, sausage or ham". I got mine with sausage and over-easy eggs. My eggs were perfectly cooked and I felt like they were extremely fresh looking at the orangey yolk color. This was a LOT of food and I'm not ashamed to say I demolished it. My boyfriend got the "Corned Beef Hash: house-made corned beef, bell pepper, onion, potatoes, two eggs & toast". All of the ingredients tasted fresh. Our server recommended ordering the meal with hashbrowns versus potatoes. He did say his meal was good but it needed some, "giddy-up" in the flavor department. Though I was told 40min for one Sunday brunch, it was less than 30min. The service by our waiter was wonderful. He was quick, polite and checked on us frequently. The food came out a lot faster than expected considering the line out the door. Though the food was not like the best breakfast I ever had, they were solid. The Latte was very good. The ambiance is rather loud (mainly because it is a small place packed with lots of people), which I did not mind at all, having a loud toddler myself. The food was amazing! I had the Duck Hash and everything in the bowl was tasty; with lovely, fresh complimentary flavors. Wasn't sure that I would like the pear but it made a delicious counterpart to the large pieces of duck and crispy hash browns. The biscuit was yummy too. My husband had the Huevos Rancheros and said they were the best he has ever had! Best sauce he has ever tasted! The table setting was very clean with cloth napkins and sturdy silverware. We had a group of six and one of our party members had put us on the wait list. We caught up and were seated quickly. We were seated in the middle of the room. What a great find next to our dinky little motel. We were surprised they had such high ratings connected to this place. My wife ordered the hot tea she said the Numi brand they carry is really good quality. She enjoyed the Moroccan Mint hot tea. My wife is vegetarian and for buttermilk pancakes with hash browns instead of meat. I had the special tuna melt and a side buttermilk pancake. We both thought we the pancakes were the best item. If you've read my previous reviews about breakfast, you'll know that basically the best thing I can think of in regards to breakfast is cheese blintzes. When we lived on the East coast, there were times where we drove an hour or more to try to find a place where I could get my hands on some, but they're hard to find and they're even harder to find worth eating. Fortunately, we found them here. I posted on the Facebook page save Sonoma County restaurants that I wanted some cheese blintzes, and I was impressed at how many people said to come here. I called the restaurant and left a message asking if it was true that they had them because I noticed on their menu, they weren't listed. The restaurant called me back and confirmed that they were on the special menu for breakfast/brunch and we made a plan to get over there. When we arrived, it was a slightly overcast morning, and we were pleased to see the restaurant had accommodated covid precautions and made an outdoor dining space. We were shown to a table and given our disposable menus which always makes me happy. Everyone was wearing masks and keeping social distancing protocol and I felt like they took these measures seriously. To start, I ordered a Jasmine green tea ($3) and hubby ordered a coffee ($3.25) while we looked over the menu. Initially, I freaked out because the cheese blintzes ($11.25) were not on the menu and I thought perhaps I got something wrong, but once the waiter came back he confirmed that they were available and that is of course what I ordered. I also ordered a side of the homestyle country potatoes ($4.25) and some of their jalapeno aioli because it sounded delicious. Hubby ordered the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and eggs ($13.50). The coffee was very good, it was a local coffee purveyor called Taylor Lane which we like seeing and is the brand I make at our house. My tea was delicious and it's hard to find Jasmine green tea served at restaurants. The cheese blintzes were gorgeous when they arrived. The form was different than I was used to: square packets alongside little mounds of lemon curd and fresh berries. It was delicious and not overpowering or too much of a serving size. The potatoes were also very good but I did not need that much- I probably could do with half of that side order. Hubby tore through his biscuits and gravy and declared them delicious. We were also happy to see that the hot sauce the restaurant puts at the tables is a local hot sauce made in Healdsburg and I love that they source so many of their ingredients locally. Prices were fair for this area, especially given that they locally source many of their products which has to be more expensive than something conventional. Service was extremely fast and very friendly, and like I said before, well within the covid restrictions which made me as a diner feel very safe. Parking is free and convenient, and the location is easy to get to right off the 12 near the flamingo hotel. I will definitely be back, maybe just for the cheese blintzes- but probably to try other things on their menu as well after an experience this good. read more
