Due to reputation (and prices) I was expecting amazing. Instead it was pretty good. I got there at opening time on a weekday. It was already fairly full, but I got a small table. Got a menu, coffee, and ordered right away, and the food came quickly for a busy place. The coffee was OK but a bit weaker than I hoped for -- not coffee house quality. I got one refill, but only after my cup had been empty for a while, and only after I asked for it. No more were offered. I ordered the Tex-Mex Scramble, with chorizo, veggies, and avo/sour cream topping. It was fine, slightly too many crunchy bell peppers to my taste. A big hunk of avo on the top with the sour cream. The chorizo was mild in flavor, I hoped it would be spicier, but it was tasty. I had hash browns -- maybe I should have gone for the house potatoes instead. They were pretty ordinary, not really crisp on the outside, but plenty of them. Aside from the one coffee refill, I didn't get much attention, and after the bill was dropped off and my credit card had been sitting out on the table for quite a while, I took it up to the counter to pay. Maybe I just didn't understand the concept of this restaurant. I guess it's not trying to be 'gourmet,' but simply a slightly upgraded version of a diner breakfast. No major complaints, but it just didn't seem to have that 'wow' factor that I was hoping for. tl;dr A good breakfast, but not a great one. read more

This might not look all modern and cutesy like lots of brunch spots these days, but don't underestimate it! It was packed when my friend and I walked in one day, a little after 1:30pm I believe, but luckily we got seats. I ordered the HUGE breakfast burrito....it might've been the best breakfast burrito I've ever had I had to take half home, but you KNOW I devoured the leftovers as soon as I got hungry again my friend got the corned duck hash and I got to taste some - sooo good as well. We didn't have anything we didn't like! I would definitely come back. read more

We tried Jefffrey's Hillside Cafe for the first time. It was a busy place on a Sunday just before noon. The wait wasn't too bad. One person ordered the french toast combo with eggs over hard. (Why have eggs?) It was a standard combo and she enjoyed it. Nothing really stood out about it. The other guest ordered the Eggs Benedict. with country potatoes. He said it was cooked perfectly but the portions of his plate were a little small, otherwise the food tasted great. I had the Corned Beef Hash that is homemade. If you are expecting the traditional Corned Beef hash you will be surprised. I was surprised in a good way. It was a good-sized portion of obviously homemade corned beef with potatoes, bell pepper and onions all in larger chunks. It had a really good flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. I also ordered the sourdough bread but was brought the Buttermilk biscuits. I am glad that they mixed that up, the biscuits were great with the corned beef hash. If I could do anything different it would be to add a little more corned beef but I would order this again. They had several other items I wanted to try and will be back. Sorry for the poor picture, I was really hungry and wanted to dig in. :) read more

I don't get how these place have good reviews. So hipped up. Won't comment on the unkept parking and bathroom, etc. First impression, burnt coffee. 10am the coffee should not be burned. Ordered Tex Mex. NO chorizo. looked like they maybe did the eggs in the chorizo fat in the pan from the previous order or something. Gave them the benefit in the doubt while I was there, assuming I probably just haven't gotten to the chorizo part. Nope. None. The rest of the food was OK, but there are better places. Will not be back. read more

Jeffrey's is goated like crazy. This is my favorite brunch spot in SR, hands down. My favorite thing to get is the banana pancakes, which come with a special berry syrup. They got the quality bacon, too. Oh and the breakfast burritos are also tasty... and ginormous. One of these days I'll order the hot cocoa to see what that's about, because I always see people getting this huge BOWL of hot chocolate there. Overall great food, great quality ingredients, great greatness. read more

I'm not very happy with Jeffrey's. Based on recent Health Department inspection records, it's not typical for a Health Department to return on August 14th, 15th, 20th, and 28th without cause. Even when reports state "no violations found," multiple back-to-back inspections are uncommon and raise reasonable questions. Health Department scores are public, and restaurants should be held to the standards reflected in those records. I'm also disappointed that the quality and consistency of the food have declined over the past few years. While the staff can be friendly-especially if you're a local regular- that shouldn't be the exception. Consistency, food quality, and execution should be there for every guest, every visit. Charging $5.00 for a soda when the juices there are cheaper doesn't make sense. Come on, Jeffrey - I've been in the restaurant business for over 40 years, and that kind of pricing decision, without exceptional value behind it, just isn't okay. This is particularly unfortunate given Jeffrey background. His culinary training, long tenure as Executive Chef at John Ash & Company, and deep roots in seasonal, farm-driven cooking set a very high bar. That history is impressive - and it's exactly why the current experience feels like such a miss. Sonoma County has too many strong restaurants for guests to accept anything less than consistent quality and professionalism. read more

This is one of those hidden gem spots. First time we went it was packed. The food was good and their cafe lattes were bomb. I was surprised with the size. I would definitely recommend it. Only down side was it being packed but that is a good thing. Service was great even when it's a packed house. read more

My son and I went for breakfast. Pretty good. Maybe a little too much butter on the hash browns but everything was cooked perfectly and it was hot! The service was fine expect we got the wrong bill at the end. Tiny diner next to a hotel. Jeffrey's Hillside Cafe has been one of my favorite breakfast hidden gems for years. My go to order at Jeffrey's is the veggie hash and my son's is always the pancakes! While I find it odd that Jeffrey's doesn't offer a kids menu I still do consider this place very family friendly. My son absolutely loves it. The menu doesn't switch up too often but that is appreciated in my opinion because I love most of their staple menu items offered year round. I've dined at Jeffrey's in big groups and small groups and the service has always been consistent, friendly and prompt. Most times there's a wait for a table but I guarantee the wait is worth while if you're patient. read more

The food is good but on the expensive side compared with other similar quality breakfast places in town (I know them all). Once seated they forgot to ask us if we wanted water and i never got a chance to ask but saw most tables with it. I had gotten Joes special before and i remember it differently, more saucy meat and veggies atop fluffy scrambled eggs. This time it was like older hard scrambled eggs that were kind of seemingly scrambled with the meat. It was also a smaller portion. I subbed salad for potatoes and chose red wine vinaigrette over balsamic because i was hoping it was not sweet. But it was. We got a side of gravy which was small for $4.00, but tasty and really belongs on the joes because without it, it was too dry. My son got an omelette that he said was fine nothing fancy, yet pricey. I came here for one reason only and that is to try cheese blintzes dish. I did and I loved it and I want to come back! Growing up in Russia, it's hard to find similar food styles such as blintzes. It is a staple in Russia (anything bread and potatoes related). So I wanted to try it because it reminds me of home country. Listen I know this is USA and different ingredients and flavors are in play but it was still fun and most of all delicious. Latte and coffee drinks were also delicious!! The service is great. Helpful and friendly. You got to come here and keep in mind that you might need to wait. We did wait for 30 minutes but the time flew by and by the time we were seated we all knew what we wanted to eat. The ambiance is great and dinner feel which is awesome. It gets crowded and packed but only because it's its great reputation. read more

Used to come here many years ago and really enjoyed it. Recently came back and I had forgotten how darn good their breakfasts are. Honestly I am not sure why I stopped coming here especially since their food is so good and full of flavor. Needless to say Jeffreys has worked its way back up to the top of my go to breakfast stops in Santa Rosa. Was in town to play a show and wanting breakfast. This place was recommended and they absolutely didn't disappoint! Food was soooo good! I tried a dish I never had before (risky) but it exceeded my expectations. It was about 5 of us and we all left very happy! Great job y'all! They told us the wait time would be 25 minutes and had us seated in 10 minutes. It was fantastic. They are very family friendly with high chairs, kids menu, and crayons. The staff were extremely polite, accommodating, and quick, peak professionals. The food was amazing. For drinks we ordered fresh squeezed orange juice, horchata lattes which come with a shot of espresso, and for food we had the steak and eggs skillet (a steal at only $30), birria chilaquiles, steak salad, and waffles. Everything was delicious, no notes. I would order everything again. Bathrooms were super clean and gender neutral. There is no outside seating but there are floor to ceiling windows that allow plenty of natural sunlight in. I would comeback here in a heartbeat. Fantastic job to the owners and crew for creating such a special place.

Our waitress noticed we were all dressed up and asked what we were celebrating and when we told her it was a bachelorette party she was struck up a conversation with the bride and even gave her a free cookie to take home. Things to note. Is located in a downtown area so only street parking but it's free on Sunday. It just adds to the welcomingness of the restaurant when the patrons display niceness and comraderay. You can see the chefs cooking, which is a plus. My visit to Jerrery's Hillside Cafe was a mixed experience, primarily marred by an unwelcoming reception. Upon arrival, the male receptionist with glasses and a mustache rudely informed us of a 25-30 minute wait. When finally seated, he pointed to a table with his nose, as if his neck was broken, and said, "sit there," before turning away. Later, he took our drink orders with visible irritation. I understood it's been busy but the attitude is unacceptable. Contrastingly, our server was kind and attentive, but the initial encounter had already tainted the visit. The ambiance was somewhat off-putting with spider webs around the windows and a high noise level. Turning to the food, the English muffin was disappointingly oily, while the corned beef was delicious. However, the accompanying potatoes were overly greasy. The ground beef with scrambled eggs and mushrooms stood out as a highlight, offering undeniable flavor. The strawberry smoothie was well-sweetened, balancing natural sour notes from the strawberries perfectly. In summary, despite some tasty dishes, the overall experience at Jerrery's Hillside Cafe was compromised by poor service and an unclean environment. I wouldn't choose to return. read more

However, I have to drop the one star because after arriving there yesterday, I was told there would be a 30 minute wait- which is fine, and completely expected on a Saturday afternoon. However, I asked if while I was waiting on the benches out front if I might have a cup of coffee and a ice water. I was told that drink outside were against policy. This was said while outside diners were drinking and eating happily about 3 feet from us. So, on to the food! Eggs Benedict, the Corned Duck Hash, Tex Mex Scramble and Cheese Blintzes. The Benedict was lovely, with perfectly poached eggs and a rich, buttery sauce. The ham was thick, but tender, with crispy edges. Divine. The Corned Duck hash and Tex Mex were both delicious and the servings were huge! Fresh herbs throughout- both were unique and delicious! The lemon curd in the Blintzes was just perfect. So, so good! I would give this more stars because the food is great, and the waitresses are lovely. But.... the waiter, a very tall guy, is a rude jerk. Never have I been that disrespected by someone whose job it is to serve the patrons on the establishment. Not only was he completely rude and condescending, I over heard him telling the waitresses that he hated our group and will not help us. This is a half way meeting point for my best friend and I. We absolutely love it here. Sometimes we order family style and share everything. They are truly a community-based cafe that offers a lot to this neighborhood of Santa Rosa. My wife and I stopped by today for breakfast before taking a nice walk through Juilliard Park and the surrounding neighborhood. I had a delicious breakfast burrito with added bacon. The flavors and textures of this burrito made me smile when I took my first bite. It comes with some spicy salsa that provides a nice tang. My wife had the Chicken bahn mix sandwich and this was also delicious. The sriracha sauce is quite spicy and the spice gets intense after several bites, but it's so so good. We also had a salted Caramel mini muffin that I highly recommend as just a little bite for dessert.

The café is set back from the street behind another building, and the alleyway entrance greets you with a colorful mural. There's outdoor seating with heat lamps, but on a cold, damp day I opted for the warmth indoors. A few people were happily outside. Inside, the vibe is relaxed and welcoming. Seating is varied and well thought out: firm but comfortable bench seating, a long communal table, two-person tables, and a cozy corner nook. Six skylights and glass panel doors bring in generous natural light. There was a nice diversity of people during my visit, including a baby and folks with gray hair. While the space isn't explicitly LGBTQ+-branded, there was nothing that gave me pause -- it felt neutral and inclusive. The staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered a caramel latte with almond milk, which was excellent: strong espresso, well-balanced foam and steamed milk, and good overall ratios. It was a bit sweeter than my personal preference with the standard one ounce of syrup, but that's on me -- and it's no sweeter than most cafés. I also tried the warmed apple turnover; decent, but not a standout (a bit mushy). There are books on the shelves, including children's books. Free Wi-Fi is available, and it feels like the kind of place you could easily settle into for an hour or more. Power outlets are plentiful and thoughtfully placed, including under the bench seating -- easy to access without being visually intrusive. Accessibility is solid: street parking is free and plentiful, there are no steps required to access the café or bathroom, and there's a private, single-person, gender-neutral restroom in an adjacent building. All around, a great place for excellent lattes, good music, and a relaxed, comfortable hang.
