It's old enough to have a family, a career, a mortgage... Uhh. Time for a replacement. After speaking to 7 companies and getting 3 quotes, I landed on Nick's company. Almost immediately after reaching out, he was asking questions, requesting pictures, and really trying to get an idea of my space. He was kind, thoughtful, and extremely communicative. Unlike one company I dealt with, he was also open to giving me multiple options. There were no pushy sales tactics. He definitely isn't a salesman, he's an installer. Replacing your entire HVAC system is not cheap, and honestly, it is intimidating if you don't know a darn thing about SEER ratings and tonnage. I can research just about anything, so I really appreciated being given the information and having the opportunity to take it back and analyze it for myself and compare. The entire install went great, the team was courteous, respectful and seem to work well with Nick! They were joking around like old friends while working their tails off getting the install done. FYI he is not located on long Island any more, but that doesn't stop him from providing excellent service. He is on the island all the time. I can see the employees want to do the minimum and expect the customer to know when a service is needed. A few weeks ago I had an old zone updated for $9000 which seems to be working fine. We had significant water puddling in our basement utility room which houses our heat and a/c handling equipment. I called our Plumber who is always fast to respond and competent. He found that it was a clogged condensate drain on the A/C air handler. The plumber cleared the line the best he could but referred us to call the HVAC guys. When they returned, they agreed it was the drain, and begrudgingly flushed the line and made sure the pump was working expelling the water into the waste line. I asked, don't you open up the cabinet to see what's going on? "No. You don't see much and you would have to cut into the sheet metal to inspect it." Thanks for staying with me, this is when I found Chris at Econ Air. I saw the reviews and gave him a call. He's the owner and came himself. He looked at the drain, immediately removed 4 screws holding a large access panel and explained how condensation and metal eventually rust and form a kind of rusty mud. He spent a good half hour flushing the area with bleach & water and mopping up the area so the condensate tray was spotless. Before he left he checked my new unit and informed me the prior contractor sold me a low quality Chinese system. I know when I need my next 2 zones updated I'm calling Chris at Econo Air. In 2018 just prior to a really hot and extremely humid July 4th holiday weekend my Mitsubishi A/C…read morestopped working. With each visit by my local HVAC outfit things were continuing to spiral out of control. Each guy they sent to solve whatever the problem was appeared as if it was their very first service call. Yes that's right, on the job training experimenting with my $12,000 almost brand new 3 year old state of the art computerized Mitsubishi! Finally, I had enough!! I began searching for a new HVAC company. I remembered that my family had been using Comfort Control in East Northport N.Y., but was told that normally they would not travel to Nassau County. I called and spoke with Samantha. I explained what I had been dealing with for well over a week and that I really needed help. She said since my family were longtime customers they would come over and have a look. The next day a gentlemen named Anthony showed up. I explained what had previously been done which included bypassing Mitsubishi's internal water pump and jury-rigging the computer board to force the fan to blow warm air even though the unit had shut itself down. Anthony got on the phone with Mitsubishi and began to attempt to first undo the damage which had been done. He was calm, professional and courteous and explained to me he'd get to the bottom of this. After about 2 hours he did just that!! He then began to troubleshoot what the real problem was. This didn't take much time as he discovered a clogged drain pipe and explained one of the first things any company should look for is just that!! He then blew the drain pipe clean using pressurized air. So for well over a week I was sweating my ass off because the local idiots couldn't think to try that first along with charging me hundreds upon hundreds of dollars, which I did get back thanks to a comprehensive report that Anthony wrote up for me to show them. I will always remember and be grateful that Comfort Control bailed me out of a very frustrating situation. Fast forward to Tuesday Aug 25, 2020 and my Mitsubishi shut down for the first time since back in 2018. Called the local outfit and insisted they send one of their two senior technicians. On Friday Aug 28, 2020 they responded and were not quite sure what exactly was going on however they were able to get the unit working again. I got right on the phone with Samantha and explained that I really do not have much confidence in the locals and could she send someone over to give me a second opinion. She said if the unit shuts down again she would do her best to accommodate me. I want to emphasize that over approximately a 40-year period I have used more than a half-dozen HVAC businesses in my area and discovered the hard way that each one is worse than the next and that finding a really good one is nearly impossible. Comfort Control is just that. I cannot say enough good things about Samantha, her father Bill, and Anthony. Besides all that they are just very nice folks who have helped myself and my family with all sorts of referrals having nothing to do with heating and cooling.
