If you're not familiar with China Town in Richardson, Texas , it's truly a hidden gem!! This tiny little strip mall is loaded with some of the best authentic Taiwanese and mainland Chinese food in the North Texas area. Yelp reviews helped us choose Jeng Chi. Fresh food, great service, and a delicious experience. I highly recommend reservations!! Making a reservation online is easy but often limited. You can call, and they will try to work you in. When you arrive, the restaurant looks half empty, but we soon figured out that they do not have enough wait staff to service a full house. There were many people waiting in the lobby when we arrived, I heard the hostess say there was a 30-minute wait and it was only 4pm. The rave reviews for Jeng Chi are true. We ordered the BEEF JUICY STEAMED DUMPLINGS (6) for $15.00. We had no idea what this meant. We were pleasantly surprised to learn it was a soup dumpling filled with ground beef, ginger, scallion, celery, and yellow onion. Once we figured out what it was and how to eat it, we loved it! These handmade dumplings are made from scratch -- we watched them make them (very cool). If you've got an appetite, it's kinda difficult to share 6 dumplings with two or more people. We also ordered something that was more familiar to us, ORANGE CHICKEN for $17.50. It was dark meat chicken tossed with sweet "very spicy" orange sauce, dried orange peel, and dried chili pods. Served with a bowl of rice. TIP: enough food for two! Absolutely delicious, the best orange chicken I've had in a long time. The addictive kind of yummy lol. Many gluten-free and vegetarian options!! We enjoyed the whole experience so much that we made reservations for Valentine's Day. Absolutely enjoyed the simple interior and delicious food. The soup dumplings were divine. Juicy and full of flavor. Nice not overly thick dough for the wrapping. The Chinese broccoli was crunchy and crisp with lots of garlic. Missing a drizzle of hoisin. The pork leek and shrimp pan fried were full of flavor. The spicy pork dumplings were absolutely delicious. The scallion pankcakes were crispy and fresh. I do prefer the thinner pancakes however these were good. i am honestly shocked about the amount of great reviews. i thought the service was subpar and there could have been plenty of ways to uplift it. the food practically ALL contains MSG. i am glad they mark it on the menu but my mother has an extreme allergy to it. when i asked our server, Keith. he seemed bothered by the question. instead of offering options that had no msg, he pretty much was saying to order whatever, and to hope for the best. we tried our best to order what we could but after that awkward encounter, he seemed to disregard us. overall, it is a chinese restaurant filled with people who can't use chopsticks. the prices are too high for the quality and service. we will not be back and will take our money to more traditional venues. this was a very disappointing experience and i hope that others read this before entering. read more

We love this place and have been back three times with lots of guests. I used to live in San Francisco and didn't think I could find decent chinese food in Dallas but now I know better. When he came over to collect it is just on one of the electronic readers with no paper copy so you couldn't easily see that it included a 20% tip. The most amazing and authentic Chinese food in town. The dumplings are the best you can find in Texas, especially the flavorful soup dumplings. You can see the chefs make the dumplings in a viewing window in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is large and spacious and the servers are always attentive. We have had better in Hong Kong restaurant in China town in London The egg rolls are nothing special, the waiter was honest and said that they are not made in house, they arrive at restaurant frozen. The shrimp dumplings were good but there was no shrimp taste to them. We will be back for the house special dumplings, they were great. August 5th we came back. We had really been looking forward to our 2 nd visit. The steamed dumplings were great! Fried pork chop appetizer was HUGE bust. Very disappointed. If it was up to me they would remove this from the menu. Shrimp fried noodles were a huge letdown also. They were dried out and tasteless. If the noodles were served with some liquid to give flavor or if they weren't so dried out they would have been better. The shrimp were small and over cooked by a lot. Another big bust. And the food was the best Asian food we've had in years!!! The juicy pork soup dumplings and Mongolian beef were insanely good!!! We had pork and crab soup dumplings which came with slices of ginger and table vinegar for a classic experience. We also got the jellyfish cucumber which is a cold appetizer. It was really done well with the right amount of sweet to balance the tanginess in the light dressing. If you haven't had jellyfish before now, jeng chi is the place to try it. The restaurant was packed and came highly recommend so we thought we would give it a try as it's a short drive from the house. We ordered pickup. We started with the steamed veggie dumplings (12) and they were a nice start to the meal. My daughter ordered the veggie fried rice and enjoyed it with plenty of leftovers for whenever. My wife ordered the shrimp fried rice and it was without any sauce so expect to add a lot for flavor but the shrimp was fresh and tasty. I ordered the Turmeric noodles with pork. The problem I had with the dish is that the noodles looked like a brick when I opened the styrofoam package and the pork looked like raw bacon so it did not start out well. I had to use a knife to cut the noodles up and add a ton of the hot red pepper sauce that came with the meal. After all the preparation on my part the meal was pretty tasty but the work I had to put into it was not worth it. With a full bar, it's going for a certain demographic, and it appears to have achieved it. \\ xiao long bao (juicy dumplings) - got them to go, and unfortunately half of them broke so i just had the magical dumpling juice all over the bag... - came with ginger slices with vinegar and soy sauce - no spoon, so the other four ended up being just leaky dumplings, too - it does seem like they were made in house - I'd give them another chance dining in (but not anytime soon, given the pandemic and the lax COVID precautions of the restaurant and of the other diners) Just so confused. Maybe I waited too many years to try this place. Otherwise, service was great. The decor was great. It looks like a nice place, if that's what you look for in a restaurant. We come every weekend lol our favorites are the prawns, pork and crab juicy, Dan Dan noodles, yum Eric noodles, pork and mustard tuber noodle soup, scallion cakes, wontons in spicy sauce, coke noodles with chicken and pork in garlic sauce. My wife and I dined in here last night. I had mixed feelings about it, so here we go: The restaurant was big with many tables. There were even Taiwanese opera masks on the wall, which was pretty unique. The hostess, who greeted and took us to our table was very sweet. The Taiwanese zhongzi were absolutely on point and tasted like home. The rice was flavorful and sticky. Kind of wish it had a little more fillings, but it was good for sure. The pork with bamboo shoots was tasty, but I wish they would've seasoned the pork differently as it tasted a bit catered to Americans. Actually, half of the menu looked like it catered to Americans...we prefer a more authentic taste. The Chinese broccoli was good. I was reluctant to order it because I thought it might be bitter, but it was juicy. The fiery soup dumplings came last, which was odd because typically you get these as your first dish in other restaurants - slightly annoyed by that. Anyway, the filling was a good amount and the soup was adequate. The dough was a bit too thick because I prefer thin. Overall, food was pretty good. Service though...oh boy. It was not good. Our waitress was as friendly as a tree. We had the leaf of the zongzi sitting on the table the entire time and she never bothered to take it away. Also, she never bothered to check on us and only asked if we wanted more water til the end of the meal. Maybe she got me on a bad day, but this is not the type of service I expect for the price paid.
