So I've been living here forever and finally said I need to go in to sit and not do carry out. The owner and name changed from Jennifer's Cafe to JL Hudson Bistro. Im not sure why the horrible and mean reviews because everything is literally the same. The menu is the same, waitstaff and newly updated design they did. I paid cash so I'm not sure about the credit card machine. They still have that delicious carrot soup and the pita bread is so fresh. This time dining in, I ordered the chicken Ghallaba. Man it was sooooo yummy. Rice was soft and fluffy. The veggies were cooked well and chicken was seasoned perfectly. The garlic sauce was the winner of the dish I felt. The Maurice salad is what everyone loves and I seem 90% of the customers there eating and enjoying their dine in time. Let's be positive to the change. I will definitely need to dine in more and not just do carry outs. read more

I had been coming here for decades. The former owners kept the quality high and the food and atmosphere a place the entire family loved. Not any more. The restaurant was sold and according to the server, the new owner does not come here very often. The server also told us customers have complained a lot about the lack of quality of the food and their experience. First of all, the server was very friendly and kind, and also very honest. The place was quite run down, the bathroom was filthy and the dining room had a lot of broken down couches. We were given chipped and broken plates. The carrot soup was not orange like in the past, it was a beige, gray, brown color and did not taste right, definitely did not taste like it used to. We served it in a bowl, but only filled up the bowl not quite half way. The #10 chicken salad used to be my favorite, but it now tastes like a celery stick and made me sick to my stomach. We had a Rueben. I posted a picture. It was basically a piece of toasted bread with no cheese, no sauerkraut, a tad bit of sauce and a sliver of meat. In the picture I posted, it was not doctored, I opened it after one bite and found nothing in it, it was quite literally a bread sandwich. The grilled chicken and mustard wrap was all lettuce with a couple pieces of chicken and left us hungry. I am not sure what is happening in the kitchen or at the restaurant, but I cannot come back here and miss the golden ages of Jennifer's Café. read more

This review is painful to write. Jennifer's was a favorite restaurant of mine. The best Maurice salad to rival the old Hudson's. Great sandwiches and house made chips. Today it is a restaurant in decline. On a Friday night where there was a 45 min wait at the restaurant up the road, Jennifer's was 3/4 empty. There is always something weird. At one point it closed at 6:30. Then It was cash only. Today it was cash only. The food is okay - I had the carrot chicken soup which used to be amazing and the salmon Dijon which was meh. It was disappointing. Service was good and the decor is nice. I probably won't be back. read more

Their credit card machine isn't broken and it's not that they only want cash, they aren't allowed to use credit cards. Who would choose not to accept credit cards, it reduces a lot of revenue when you can't accept credit cards, clearly there's an issue here. Not even the credit card companies want to do business with them. Massive red flag. Now onto the food, massive downgrade,. What a shame, because Jennifers Cafe was once amazing. I ordered a couple #10's, which is chicken salad in the lavash wrap. The Havarti cheese inside was hard and crispy, the avocado was both brown and hard, which is something I had never seen in an avocado before. The chicken salad once used to be so smooth and creamy, is now chunky and DRY, also, half the portion size it once was. The potato chips that come as a side order are only filled halfway, whereas the previous owners overfilled the container. When I asked the owner to please fill it up, he seemed to put off by the request. This was my last attempt going toJennifer's Café, I don't care that they changed the name to Hudson's since, I will never set foot in that place again. read more

Sadly, that will be the last time we go there. We've been customers since 1990! New owners are destroying the quality of the food. Credit card machine has been "broken" for over a year. Just tell the truth, you want a cash only business. We ordered a roast beef roll up and it was terrible. The meat is no longer real roast beef that is shaved and warm. It's a weird thicker sliced cold cut version and not a good quality cold cut. Salad was bland and boring. Chips no longer crispy. End of an era. Sad looking packaged cookies in the case. This place is a hidden gem! It's tucked away in the far corner of a shopping plaza and could easily be missed. The decor is plain - an average looking coney type restaurant that's common around here, but the bike on the back wall is adorable. We were there during lunch time, but it wasn't terribly busy. Our waitress was fantastic - she even let me sample the soup I was considering ordering. My friend and I each had soup then salads and both were delicious. I definitely recommend this small, unassuming place for a simple yet delicious lunch. I'll definitely be back! read more

Went to Jennifer's Cafe last week, after 40 plus years. I'm pretty sure it's not the original store, based upon friends who've dined there. It's now Mid East theme. The service was great. The ambiance was nice and light, and airy. We had the chicken shawarma and kafta wrap. The chicken did not seem overly fresh and the seasoning was very bland. The same with the kafta wrap. The kafta was mediocre. Seasoning wise it was very salty, but not much else. Disclaimer: our DIL and her mom are Lebanese. And they are phenomenal cooks. But I've been eating Lebanese food since 1967, and unfortunately Jennifer's does not measure up - there are better options. 2 Stars instead of 1 for the ambiance and service. Sorry to not be more positive. read more

Last night we enjoyed our dinner at the all new Hudson bistro, formally Jennifer's Café in Commerce Township. Our meal was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed our Maurice salads as well as the homade soups. The whole place was so clean and the service was phenomenal ! The manager, Maria was so nice and satisfied our every wish. Not only is it a near exact replica of Hudson's salad, the waitstaff, especially MARIA, are all very kind and able to substitute anything I wanted on my salad! Sadly, a bittersweet review. This restaurant has always been stellar. But with the new owner, things have changed. Firstly, when the bold sign frequently posted says "credit card machine down - cash only" it REALLY means -the new owner only likes to receive cash and chooses not to accept credit cards ( 3 servers confirmed it to me today and they all said they just found this out as well.) I used to love Jennifer's and my family would eat here regularly. My go to for years has been the #1 - Smoked Turkey, Harvarti, Lettuce and Tomato. I ordered it again toda and the decline in quality was shocking. It used to be thinly shaved turkey and melty harvarti cheese in a warm wrap. What I received today was cold and looked more like the kind of wrap I'd make for myself at home, not pay $17 for. The turkey legitimately looked like it came straight out of a plastic container you would buy at a grocery store. The Maurice Salad was still good and looked the same, but I'm honestly really bummed about the wrap. After reading other reviews it seems I'm not the only one who has noticed a difference in the quality. read more

This place has been going downhill for years, but tonight may have been the last time after arriving prior to their 6:30(!) dine-in cutoff and being told, "oh, I just cleaned the tables" and "I'm going home." Have been eating here for more than 20 years. Always enjoyed it. A few months ago had an okay meal and thought it might've been a fluke. Tried again tonight. Sorry to say it was not. Service was poor. The menu has a lot of items that are crossed off. Food was barely mediocre when they remembered to bring it. My go to #14 was barely warm and chips were soggy. Because the service was so slow didn't want to wait to redo everything. Also ordered soup which they never brought because they said they ran out of bowls. I used to love Jennifer's but my most recent trip will be my last. The decline in quality was shocking. The chicken carrot soup bore little resemblance to my previous favorite soup. It was watery and had almost no chicken. The Maurice salad, also a previous favorite, was noticeably smaller, had sparse toppings and the dressing was thin, watery and flavorless. I'd just like to say that those who leap at the chance of giving a bad review.... You should do the same for when you are not angry over not getting something your way. When receiving good service. If a place closed at 8:00 I would never stop in to eat later than 7:15. There is so much more to serving and those late tables that come in 15 minutes to close are really inconvenient. I think everyone should serve once in their lifetime, then would know what it feels like to serve. A server is not always treated well by the customer, but are supposed to remain cool and calm, customer is always right, when indeed they are not always right. Stop bashing the small businesses trying to survive and make a living as well. While your salad weighs a couple pounds, add the extras that you don't want to pay for, the PRICE hasn't increased to you as it has to the business owner. Much goes on that you are not aware of. Jennifer's has been my absolute favorite restaurant since I was approximately 4 years old. Service is always quick and friendly. I love the homey feel of the restaurant which has stayed despite all of the decorative wall changes throughout the years. I love their grape leaves (both meat and vegetarian are great) and I recommend asking for a basket of pita bread with anything you order. The homemade chips are amazing and my favorite pita sandwich is the #12 which is corned beef, grilled onions, swiss, and honey mustard. It's huge and will easily get you two meals. I am still mourning the loss of the previous lemon rice house soup (1990s and early 2000s) which was my favorite food in the world. I may have cried the day I rolled in and saw that it had been replaced. Please bring it back! (Or message me the recipe). :) read more
