True, they dont have as many options as other sub shops but the quality does make up for it. I choose Jersey Mike's whenever I'm craving a sandwich or a sub. Some cons are the listening skills of some of the staff. I kmow you're there watching them make your sub, but you'll tell them something and they'll do the complete opposite. Not sure why so many of these are popping up. The sandwiches are comparable to Sub Way (not great). They do have a simple menu unlike some other overly complicated sub shops. However, this could deter someone from trying it due to the limited options. Went with the club sandwich and of course....had to add bacon. Bacon was thick, but way over cooked and hard. Asked for all the trimmings, but it turned out to be 80% lettuce. Then they drench it some kind of oil/vinegar that seemed like a cheap way to achieve flavor. As for the location, the place is new so it's clean and well stocked. The place was definitely over employed during my visit probably because training of new staff. I am posting this because my friend contracted food poisoning from this location. I myself eat here from time to time. The manager recently has tried to pass old meat to customers. After I brought it to her attention it was old, she put it back in the fridge to offer to a future customer. The meat had to have been spoiled for over a week which was my guess. My friend was not aware of this and got sick on her own after visiting here. If you cannot tell if meat is old or not from the sight STAY AWAY. We love this sandwich shop, and have visited both the Oceanside and Vista locations. My wife grew up in New Jersey, and while it is a "chain," the subs here are made fresh to order and taste fantastic. We have visited both locations easily a dozen times, and the service and food have been very consistent. Only once did we encounter a small issue here at the Oceanside location, when the business level must have been overwhelming, as they ran out of fresh bread! No big deal...just come earlier on a busy holiday weekend!! Fresh ingredients and friendly, well trained staff make the difference here. Gave it another try, still had multiple employees with nose piercings in. How come you don't enforce the company policy of no facial/nose piercings? I really like Jersey Mike's but I don't want to be grossed out. I notice Joseph W. comments on other people's posts. How about a comment on the facial piercings? Are there any plans to improve this? Just moved to the area, and got a "buy one get one" coupon. I have to say, the entire crew was VERY friendly and helpful. Now to the food ;) I got a meatball and cheese and a chicken parm. WOW. It's kind of a small Jersey Mike's and when we walked in it was absolutely full. There are four people working behind the counter and they were hustling! But by far the most outstanding person in the room was a Val. She kept such a cool attitude and work so fast and efficiently I even had to comment to her that she was amazing. Several minutes later while we were outside eating our delicious sandwiches, Val passed by on the way into the parking lot and asked us if our sandwiches were good! I totally agree with Craig. If you compare it to Subway it is great! Other then that it really isn't that good. I could barely hear anything they said to me and I don't think they heard me. Between the tv and the music it's just not good. I went there twice, NO I don't want it Mikes way I want it my way but both times it fell on deaf ears. The finals straw was when I went to pay and the machine asks me what I want to leave for a tip. REALLY?? They made my sandwich and not even the way I wanted it and I should leave a tip? I love Jersey Mikes and was stoked that this one was opening up close to my house. However, tonight was the first night I ordered from this location and it was not a good experience. One sandwich was missing tomatoes, pickles, and cheese (all the delicious elements) and this is after I requested EXTRA pickles. The kids meal I ordered for my daughter was missing the essential cookie that makes it complete. My husband's sub was pretty good, but it was a hot sub and did not require as much construction. I might give this place one more try, but the Carlsbad location is on point and not that much further of a drive for me. read more
