I made a yelp account just to write this review because I believe that recognition should be given when it's deserved especially in times like this. Now that I see the negative reviews I really want to give a counter claim to them. I have been back three times since my first visit and each time I've had a great experience similar to the one I had on my first visit which is what made me want to come back, which I am going to write about below because if people are reading these reviews I think this is the most accurate depiction of what to expect for the most part when you are going to this Jersey Mike's. ------ My husband and I went into jersey mikes on July 4th for dinner. We never went to one before, but we do live right next to the plaza and we see the ads every where so we figured we should give it a shot. We went in and immediately were greeted with an enthusiastic Welcome to Jersey Mike's, Happy Fourth or something along those lines. The guy, who I think is named Jarrod, or something similar, made us feel welcomed right away. We then went up and told him we had never been to one before. We happened to walk in while he was slicing a bunch of other sandwiches for another pre-placed order but he stopped and started giving us recommendations in a way that made him seem like he was right out of a commercial. He sold us on the Giant Italian because he told us if you need something to fill you up it's the way to go so we went with it. As he was slicing the sandwich he asked us about our weekend and what we were doing for the rest of the holiday weekend and we began talking about how we were going upstate to Lake George that night and he told us he goes to SUNY At Albany and told us about this hiking spot near by with a great view and other places to go while we were there. The reason I am mentioning this is because I never go into a fast food chain and actually have a conversation with an employee. You usually just tell them your order and pay and that's it. But he actually had a full on conversation with us which is a stand out difference. He also told us he didn't mind working on the fourth because he genuinely enjoys the job which me and my husband could 500% tell was the truth. You don't see that from college aged kids very often. He seemed to know everything about the company and loved the food too which also you don't see with people this age too often also. We got the sandwich mikes way but added mayo and the two peppers they had. He also described the relish to us as a little spicy and we were unsure so he told us we should get on the side, just a nice little touch to show they actually care. The sandwich looked a little bit messy, in a good way, because we put so much on it but its made fresh and not like the other chain sandwiches where everything is too uniform. But all the reviews regarding the staff I disagree with. Granted, I've only met a handful of employees, all who appeared to be in college, but Jarrod has been there each time I've went in, and having someone who is energetic and engages with the customers makes a difference when you are trying to attract people in a competitive market and makes the whole experience more genuine. when we were checking out he told us he assumed we weren't part of the loyalty points program (because it was our first time) but that we should sign up because after that sandwich we definitely will be back and he was right! He also said Have a Jersey Mikes Fourth at the end which was cheesy, but gave us a good laugh. (He says something like have a Jersey Mike Day each time we are there so I think he said have a Jersey Mike Fourth, but I'm not sure if that is a company thing or just something this store does) The food was great, better than any other chain sub spot and the customer service was by far the best I've ever seen at any "fast food" place in general. The other reviews talking about them needing an "adult" supervisor are probably people who are impatient or just angry people in general. If they want the experience of a robot making your sandwich then they should go somewhere else, but the customer interaction just made it feel like we were back at a local deli like the ones in New York City where we grew up. I also may be slightly addicted to the number 13. That's how you create regulars and I regret not trying it until now. I would give 6 stars if I could read more
