Jess Cafe is my go to for takeouts. They have a wide variety selection of Asian dishes from Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Thai and so much more. Portions are huge and always filling. The menu can get overwhelming with so many selections to choose from. They also have a small shop containing a limited selection of Asian snacks you can buy. The only criticism I'll give is some of the food contain really high sodium. Last time I ate there, the lemongrass pork chop was too salty for my liking. I totally agree with Lauren G. Their bubble tea is the best I ever had. Before moving, few years ago I would stop by 5 times a week, yes I am that obsessive when it comes to something I like. The tapioca they use is just perfect. Chewy in exture, sweet, but not overpowering, fresh flavor. I always ask for extra tapioca, it's sooo good. I am not a fan of their food anymore. Some years ago got a shrimp dish that wasn't cleaned properly (yes the black stuff is shrimp poop ). Gave it another try after a long while, same thing happened. Im just put off, and don't eat there since than. When i ate there the food was pretty good. Be prepared to wait as they get busy. Might be a good idea to call ahead. The place is much larger inside than you expect when looking from the outside. Street parking only available. I will still stop by once in a while to get my tapioca fix. read more

A very good friend of mine and goddaughter introduced me to this place. The food is so good and so are the drinks. I'm pretty sure I've gotten a different dish every time I've been here. The orange chicken over rice is to die for! Not the "traditional Panda Express" orange chicken -- the texture is crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside and the flavor.. it's sweet, tangy, and there's a distinct orange taste. I could easily eat this dish every time I come here, but there's pages upon pages of dishes to chose from. The restaurant itself isn't very large, but eating on a Saturday at lunch time, we were seated immediately and the food came out in 15 min or less. A big downside I think for asian restaurants is the poor communication between customers and servers and the lack of attention to the customers. For an asian restaurant, the atmosphere here is very welcoming and the customers are diverse. Not only that, the service, food/drink selection and the food quality are amazing! Normally I try to stay away from a restaurant that does more than one type of cuisine, but my wife needed me to find a place en route to our house from the city. She was hangry so this was a life or death situation for me. I used the map search function on the app, and found Jess Cafe had a large number of positive reviews so I picked it. I went onto their website and picked a few apps and mains. From the texts my wife had to wait a little for the food, so they were a little slower than the estimated time. When we unpacked the food to compliment our episode of Narcos, we saw that we had a huge portions of food. Ya know, when an order of chinese is also going to be breakfast. Anyhoo...the thai wings were a dry rub style and my wife really liked them. The situation at hand was mediated. The crab rangoon were average. Her spicy basil seafood dish was really good and actually spicy. My noodles and shrimp were cooked nicely and not tough. Overall a solid meal and we'll be ordering from here again. read more

I came across Jess Cafe about 3 years ago when I was looking for an Asian restaurant that would deliver. Everything was either closed or had bad reviews. Jess Cafe is now my go to and I haven't gone to any other Asian fast food place since. They have so many dishes and drinks to choose from. They serve Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, and much more. The dishes aren't authentic but it's delicious either way. Not too greasy and I never end up feeling sluggish or tired after a meal. The servings are big, I always end up with leftovers which still taste good the next day. When I place an order for delivery I get my food on time every time with the exception of the first time which I got the wrong food and ended up having to wait two hours total to get my correct order. After this honest mistake I never had a problem with my deliveries again. When I dine in the food comes out fast and the only thing I would say they need to work on is being more attentive to all guests. I usually dine with my 5 year old son and we tend to get forgotten and end up waving servers down. I completely understand that a large table of adults might have a larger check but a party of two including a child should get the same level of service. Once I place my drink and appetizer order I have to look for a server to take my entree order and then to bring my check. This doesn't mean I want someone to be at my table every 5 minutes but at least check back so I can place my order. Aside from this the staff is very friendly so maybe just get one or two more servers during your busy times. Overall I love this place and won't stop going or getting delivered from here, I just hope they take my advice. I look forward to my next visit. read more

I should start paying rent considering I practically live here! We come here several times a month and have been for about a year now. Quality is great and the food is always delicious, prices are cheap too. Service is friendly and quick but they can get busy during the night and on weekends so go early if you can. They have the best bubble tea smoothies I have ever tried and I've been to China Town several times. I can't stress enough how much you should try them. Taro (my favorite), Pineapple+Coconut, Cocunt+Mango, Lychee, Avocado and more! They will mix different fruits if you ask. They have a wide range of different Cuisines, from Philipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean and Chinese. Their chicken dishes are the best, it tastes fresh and they actually give you a good portion of chicken, try their Green Curry Chicken Udon Noodles, you will not regret it! We always get the egg rolls here which are very big and they also have a good fried rice selection. Soups are great too, I love the beef dumpling soup, great for the winter! 100% recommend this place, it has destroyed all other Asian restaurants I've been to, it will do the same with you and that is not a bad thing. read more

This was my go-to Chinese food restaurant after another one in the Jefferson Park neighborhood closed. Authentic Chinese fast food. Our usual orders were green onion pancake (oily, but totally worth it), hot and sour soup, beef chow mein (crispy noodles), and the occasional wonton egg noodle soup. All excellent! Pretty good! Amazing selection of dishes! A little on the pricey side and wish they offered different sizes of dishes. Dad loved the beef with pea pods, egg rolls, and the beef fried rice was huge with tons of tender beef. The orange chicken was good, but might've been a bit over fried. Lumpia was a bit over fried as well, but still tasty! The crab Rangoon is huge, stuffed with tons of meat and cheese and by far the best I've ever had! Korean beef was very tender and tasty, but a little on the salty side. I definitely will go back to try different dishes and get more crab Rangoon! The sweet sour sauce is something I remember fondly from a childhood restaurant that used to be in the same building- love it! Really want to try a smoothie too! With bare-bones decor and a menu that encompasses many East Asian (and one or two Southeast Asian) countries, Jess Cafe aims to be all things to all Chinese/Thai/Korean/Japanese-cuisine loving people. If the menu seems reminiscent of Joy Yee's, you wouldn't be wrong - the owners of Jess Cafe worked there before striking out on their own. Some of the dishes are practically verbatim copies of Joy Yee's - others have their own identities. The big difference though, is the price. Jess Cafe, dollar for dollar, is a better value than Joy Yee's - servings are huge, prices are low, and service is friendly. This place is way out there, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's delicious and really reasonable. It's Pan-Asian, so you can find a variety of different Asian rice and noodle dishes. Not exactly a date place, but amazing for getting your grub on and having leftovers that taste just as good. The lunch special includes egg drop soup and an egg roll and most of them are between $5 or $6. The Thai curries and the Kung Pao dishes are some of my favorites. Also, the bubble smoothies are made from fresh fruit and are not watered down like most bubble teas. The mango and strawberry are especially good! Yes, it's a kind of a hole-in-the-wall...another Asian place that doesn't give a crap about ambiance but more than makes up for it with the quality and value of the food. This is one of those places that's great to come to with a large group, order a bunch of stuff and do it Family-style. Since our first visit to Jess we have ordered pick-up from there numerous times (sadly we are out of their delivery area). Since we, like the rest of the world, are watching our expenses, Jess has pretty much replaced ordering-in from Papajin or Friendship. Granted we have to drive there to pick-up the food, but it is always ready in 20 minutes and we can order the same amount of dishes as we have from our usual delivery places and spend HALF the money! It's the month of April in Chicago...still snowing. Still 30 degrees....but yet I still had a craving for a summer treat. So off to Jess Café I went to get a mango bubble tea treat. I actually watched them make it this time, as she mixed simple syrup and real fresh pieces of fruit to blend smoothly. But what amazed me is the care she put into it after mixing the concoction, as I was taking this drink to-go. She placed both drinks in brown paper bag, and then double bagged that into a plastic bag. AND THEN she put a scoop of ice into the brown paper bag to keep the drinks cold. Nice touch.
