Kalihi and Filipino food are like Batman and the riddler...almost synonymous haha. Having recently had major cravings for Filipino food I've had to make epic voyages to quench the desire. Jesse's is just one of the many places in Kalihi that I've somehow come across on my blind drives down Kalihi for the crave-inducing food. Jesse's has that small Filipino eatery feel, full of your fellow filipinos, pans full of food, and lawn chairs for seats! I ate some adobo and gisantes which were able to make my cravings subside, but the buttery-icing on the cake was the ensaymada in their deli section. My coworker told me about this place and how her grandma used to take her here since she was little. She said by far the best Filipino food place on the island and I totally agree! They have this pork adobo omelette with fried rice in the omelette and at first I was like ????? BUT it was actually really delicious. My man ended up wanting it instead of his food haha. All we picked up was 6 boxes of pianomo rolls and 1 package of pan de leche rolls. Well the pan de leche saved me the day I flew out since it was my breakfast. The rolls are very light and tasty. What is pretty cool about this place is the most expensive thing on the menu is a whole fish which is $10. From what I could see locals love his place and the ox tail soup smelled good. Have been going to Jessie's for years. The place has gotten a little dated but the food hasn't. Their pianomo rolls are the best!! I haven't eaten at their restaurant because I live in California, but I'll definitely try it when I go back to visit next year. I love the food at jesse's. Really flavorful and delicious. But the service here is not the best at all. Alot of the waitresses are rude. No friendly greeting. Their don't treat you like they're happy to have you're business. You have to keep asking them for more water, more napkins and a few times they totally ignored us. I have been a patron of Jesse's for about 5 years on a irregular basis. We usually order the same thing: fried squid, sari sari and sometimes pinacbet or pork and peas. The service sucks, usually have to ask twice for soup bowls for the sari sari, oftentimes have to get our own water refill, ha, ha. I ate at their restaurant for the first time last week. I usually go there to get their bakery goods, which I love because they're fresh. However, the restaurant portion was alright. The service was really slow and we had to fill our own water cups at their faucet. We finally got our food after waiting for about 35 minutes. The fried chicken was tasty and very crispy. 2 stars simply cause the food is decent compared to other Filipino restaurants. Not the best looking establishment (but then again what do you expect from the looks of the outside). Service here is the absolute worst. The waitresses are all on the older side and walk and act like they all got sticks stuck up their asses. Even when you try to kill their asses with the "old school" Filipino respect. Hence why I personally prefer to order take out rather than dining in. Although you tip them nicely at the end of your meal... they'll give you this super nice smile and act like they really deserved it. I still come for the food every month or so but only because I'm either to lazy to cook at home or out and about. My best advice is to order take out or risk having the worst dine-in experience. I don't frequently eat Filipino food but my co-worker ordered their fried chicken one day and that weekend, I had lunch there with my boyfriend and his dad. My boyfriend ordered the mixed plated with adobo, pancit, and pork guisantes. The pancit was very saucy, which I didn't care for. My co-workers often make pancit and bring for everyone at lunch and I prefer theirs over the one here. My boyfriend's dad got the shrimp sari sari; this was my first time trying sari sari so I don't have anything to compare it to. Lots of veggies, not as much shrimp. I got the chicken maronggay (though my aunt would call it chicken kalamungay when she'd make it) and of course, it was good, but it didn't measure up to my aunt's homemade chicken kalamungay (she had a tree in the backyard so she'd make it all the time and my cousin and I would collect the leaves for her). I also got banana lumpia, which was ok. It was rather soggy and overly sweet. My boyfriend made me pancit and banana lumpia for my birthday at my request and I liked his more. His dad also ordered me pan de sal -- this, I liked! It isn't THE BEST but it's right across the street from my work place so I'll probably start going regularly. read more

Been here numerous times, but lately the food is not as good as before. I usually get their shrimp sari sari and it tasted really bland, I had to add salt and pepper to it. I also ordered pusit adobo and this also didn't taste as good either, it does not have the adobo taste and I didn't like the fact that they didn't take out the eyes and the plastic like bone from the squid. These are unedible and it was a struggle to take them out. My friend and I also ordered 3 pieces of Lumpia, this was ok. I ate 1 and my friend ate the other 2, she wanted more so I waved the waiter over to ordered 2 more Lumpia and OMG she gave an attitude, her facial expression was like she was irritated, like it was too much trouble for her. I would've given five stars, but because of the ambiance and decor and a few other things, I'm giving this place a four. It's a pretty run down location and could use major upgrades in their furnishings. As far as the wait, I was skeptical because of the reviews so my brother was smart in ordering ahead of time. But everything was on time, they had water out, and we even asked for fried chicken at the last minute and they were quick on that too. Stopped by here for a quick pick me up for take out and also for their Pianomo rolls. This place is easy to find, parking is kinda hectic everywhere, but we were lucky to find a parking space. It was my first time being here, but when I arrived, there were other shops nearby, but couldn't locate where the restaurant was until I realized that there was no signage. Took my chances and went in and of course I chose right. We ordered a whole bunch of items we wanted to try especially the deep fried sillet. We honed in on the Pianomo rolls because that was the whole purpose and then ordered food with hungry eyes. Their fried sillet was like chips to me, but of course it was expected. Love it. It came with vinegar/garlic dipping sauce with tomato and onions. Or course I got some rice. I fulfilled my cravings and will be back for more. Called in an order 4 hours ahead. I got to Jessie's 15 minutes early. I told then I wanted the food ready at 3pm, I left at 3:20. They only started to make it when I asked how much longer it would be. When I asked how much more time ahead should I have called to get my order on time. The cashier said she does not know what happened in the kitchen. No apology, nothing. To top that off. While I waited, a couple sat down & ordered their food. They were eating their order of 3 dishes before i left the restaurant. Piss poor service. And the funny thing is that they act like they can care less. Gpa loves Jesse's, so he picks up food for us from there about once a month. He always gets that bread with the neon pink middle (looks kinda gross). Surprisingly, it's super yummy. I've also tried the sari sari (vegetables in broth), which was delicious! The chicken adobo was not the best I've ever had (bright red sauce, not much vinegar taste). He also always orders the fried pork (served with rice and a slightly pickled tomato/onion) - I'm not a fan, but B likes it.
