The front of the house from the garage to the sidewalk was torn out and replaced with pavers. I had 2 planter boxes added and we extended the front porch. Because of the grade from the sidewalk to the house, we had a French drain added at the garage (lowest point) which drains to a sump in the backyard. This was to prevent flooding in the garage and around the foundation. The water is then pumped out to the sidewalk. The drain was put to the test this winter and it worked perfectly. During the project Jose was on the job site each day. His crew were very professional and followed through with all the small issues that came up. The pattern they laid down was great and blended perfectly. The porch looks great and so do the planter boxes. Most importantly, the pitch of the entire surface is perfect. The water flows to the drain and I have no puddles! It's been 7 months since the work was completed and I'm happy to say that the project looks as good as it did the day it was completed. During the course of the project, they showed up everyday and worked hard to deliver 95% of the project on time within about 4 months. For that I give them full marks. The last 5% is what I have to take some of those marks away and to share our experience for the benefit of others. What should have been a day or 2 worth of work to fix a few things and wrap up the project ended up taking 2+ months to resolve. Jesus kept saying he had to be in Mexico for family reasons with no cell signal and therefore could not respond. In any event, as a customer, even though we tried to be sympathetic, our patience was running thin as this happened repeatedly. Jesus is a reasonable guy with a professional and knowledgeable team. However, we found communication to be quite challenging in the last 2 months. Having said all of that, taking the whole picture in view, they offer an affordable service (for bay area prices at least) with reasonably high quality. If thats what you are looking for, and are willing to project manage the project at times, then they are a good option.

As a few others with low reviews have noted, Jesus is a bit overloaded and sometimes disappears. He had to leave for Mexico during a significant remodel project and I kept our project going...which was a bit of a challenge since my Spanish is a bit rusty. I had little notice when he went MIA, but due to his personality I didn't mind and acted as project manager. I don't mind having to act PM of my own project, but the reason I'm forced to update my review is due to this: At the end of our $40k cash remodel (our remodel was sizably higher but that was his portion) we hired him to do more work. This additional work was to replace brand new lawns we had hired a previous landscaper to install a few months prior, and to finish the side yard. I paid his man in full once they "completed" the project given my faith in Jesus, but I made sure Jesus knew that there were issues that needed to be solved (dead patches of grass, sprinkler heads not working, install of moss was inadequate with no top soil and planting of 40+ Irish moss into dead ground which didn't hold). He promised me, and my wife, that these issues he agreed were his responsibility would be fixed. Months later, no labor was sent to repair. Instead, he visited once again with me and my wife to review the issues he knew needed to be addressed and promised a crew on Friday. They never arrived with zero communication. After a few weeks my wife reached out to Jesus and made it clear our patience was spent, and she and Jesus agreed on $4,700 cash refund to cover the repairs of the above already mentioned, plus the cuts his guys put into our $30k deck because they foolishly used the saw and wire on our brand new deck to cut the wire. Well, a guy showed up with $1,500 - not $4,700 - and we've never heard from him since. I could report him to the EDD and do a small claims case, but honestly, I like Jesus and his team. I just feel obliged to help my fellow Yelpers and tell them - if you have someone else you can trust and is reliable, go there and pass on Meza.

Unlike some others, he was never pushy and that made me feel more comfortable about working together going forward. He estimated that the entire project (leveling the backyard, building a short wall, French drain, and adding gravel) would take 2 weeks and they finished ahead of schedule. His crew was great and Juan also works with them, he doesn't just only project manage. He was here all day nearly every day with the crew. It's a small company but they do great work, pay attention to detail like grading, and clean up after themselves every day. They did such a good job, after he finished we asked him to help redo a fence later as well and also continue to come biweekly to maintain the yard.

After talking with Mr. Garcia on the phone and in person, I hired him to mow the weeds and cut the ivy. He and his worker(s) did such a fantastic job, I hired him to install decomposed granite to keep the weeds from coming back. He did an amazing job. The goal was to try to manage the weeds and ivy. So, I had MLM finish the project by mulching almost all of the backyard. I'm a believer in what Jesus said, "the laborer is worthy of his hire." Luke 10:10. Over the many years I've lived in my home, I've consulted several landscape companies so I had an idea of the scope and price of designing and maintaining my large 1950s-ish backyard. MLM is neither cheap nor exploitative. The superior result speaks for itself. The company showed up every day and worked hard until the job was done. Tip: Lots of things are said during the design phase. Save money and labor by having dimensions (area of flagstone, depth of mulch) and expectations (remove and replace fire ring) stated on the invoice. A can of orange marking paint helps, too.

The scope was extensive: a large, engineered two-tier retraining wall, large French drain all around my backward, new patio, backyard fence, fire pit with guilt in gas line, front year leveling, front yard fence (curved), new sprinkle system, all new planting including several trees and integrated lighting. The work was intense, requiring months of jack hammering and meticulous concrete work. During the time, Gerardo was a true professional.
