I am not sure what the string of negative and vague reviews from 6 months ago is all about, but as a long time customer of the whole Jetties universe (Millies and Surfside, to name a couple), I can say this sandwich place is legit. I used to think the Nobadeer was the perfect sandwich - roast turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo on sourdough. Now I have discovered a new sandwich nirvana, the Orange St. It is roast turkey, bacon, smoked cheddar and spinach on a toasted multigrain bread. It is sizeable, crispy and delicious! It is expensive to eat here daily for lunch. $16 for a sandwich and bottle if water is an expense I would only make occasionally for lunch, but it is delish! I LOVE Jetties, and this Express location is so convenient that it is easily one of my favorite lunch spots. I've also turned a few friends on to the cause ;) I really wish they had more seating available though, especially outside. They have these stupid benches that are awkward to eat on. They'd be better off buying a cheap patio set, but whatever... Like everyone else, I highly recommend the Novadeer sandwich. I mean, I practically yelled at one friend for getting an egg salad sandwich and insisted she return to try this Thanksgiving-in-May deliciousness. She loved it. My other go-to item is the Straight Wharf salad, which is basically made southwest style, with corn, black beans, and a chipotle ranch dressing. WARNING: There is this one guy who works there who is maybe in his mid-30s (Latino dude, maybe 5'7") and he ALWAYS pours on way too much dressing. He also slapped too much mayo on my sandwich once, but I'm here to warn the salad lovers. WATCH OUT! This guy has ruined far too many salads with his heavy hand. If he's working, either tell him to go easy or put the dressing on the side. Trust me. Or don't, but you will quickly learn your lesson when your $10 salad is practically inedible. read more

I have had countless Nobadeers (Thanksgiving meal in sandwich form) which are still one of the best sandwiches around town. I just had a Still Dock (breaded chicken and Chipotle mayo) which is now a very close second. Delicious! Two other sandwiches I've tried are also good, the Quidnet (Italian) and the Surfside (turkey/bacon/avocado). Salads are good but are generally over-priced. With a bag of chips, it's $15 - 16 - no drink included. NYC price. I guess they cannot be bothered to actually listen to the customer and take the order (directly from the customer), like the vast majority of businesses do. I told her my order 2x, not realizing that this isn't how they operate. After agreeing to take the order herself, she recited it back to me - incorrectly, of course. So I told her a 3rd time (b/c she obviously wasn't listening the first 2x) - we're not getting off to a good start here. My office has ordered from this location multiple times. At least one time, they have messed up the order and, just like one of the other reviews said, the woman (presumably the same one) was defensive over the phone. My co-worker had to go back there in person to speak with a manager. Also, they don't accept cash - which is mildly annoying. I will not go to this location again. A small hole in the wall. After walking for miles, we found our oasis. The door needs some force to open but just yank it and you won't regret a thing. Fresh cut meats and fresh bread. Home made cookies and ice cream. You can't go wrong. The staff was nice and friendly. The service is quick. Seating is limited but it wasn't too busy after the lunch rush. Overall, good sandwiches. It's like a classic sandwich shop where you can even get a hot sandwich like you would expect to get at an old school diner (the monomoy - hot roast beef with provolone and au jus is especially notable). I absolutely love Jetties. So when I found out that there was a miniature version near the place my family was moving to, I was pretty darn happy. Jetties Express is in the same shop as their sister company Something Sweet. Like Jetties there are salads and sandwiches, but they have a more limited selection. I got the Wharf salad which has turkey, black beans, corn, greens and lettuce and a chili ranch sauce. It was amazing to say the least! Every ingredient was very fresh, and they use the same meats that go in the sandwiches. The turkey tasted like something you'd get at Thanksgiving, not some cheap lunch meat from Safeway. The black beans gave the salad a unique taste, and the chili ranch was creamy with just a slight kick to it. Definitely not what I'd consider spicy, which is probably a good thing when it comes to salads. The portion is very big, enough that I brought some home with me. Very pleased with Jetties Express, and yes they do have the Nobadeer sandwich! read more

Torn between giving this place a 3 and a 4. Here's my line of reasoning: PROS: --absolutely FAB tuna fish sandwich. I usually find this type of spread revolting, but something about Jettie's preparation of it with muenster and cucumber works well imo, and consistently has for the past 5 years that I've had occasion to sample it. -- The kid's mac and cheese meal = a freaking CATCH. Yummy and homemade-seeming (at least when I had it 4 summers ago), not to mention a decent-sized portion for the cost; probably Jettie's best value item as far as I'm aware. -- Paper that you can "check box" your order on, substitutions included, and hand to the kitchen staff. I find these items helpful because (A) I need not stare up at the menu board and make a fool of myself, flashing the underside of my chin to the kind cashier (though I can't say if that's a debacle others would relate to or not), (B) I'm guessing it's just more generally efficient than everyone in line audibly pronouncing their pickings, and (C) there's no ambiguity about your order. I've never received a meal other than that which I requested from Jettie's, so hurrah. CONS: --Closing time at 3 PM. Now, of course this isn't like some ethical flaw on the business' part or anything. All I mean, is that I'm pretty sure I would frequent the location a lot more often if it offered late-afternoon bites. Back in the old days, you could grab some ice cream here after sunset. Nostalgia. --The scarce selection of sides, because sometimes you just don't want to wash down down your sandwich with chips or coleslaw. I feel that the addition of fries, kale chips, and/or mashed potatoes would please many, adding an element of trendiness to the joint --Difficult parking --I am sorry, but nothing really beats the former shop in this space: Something Sweet. Embellished with a floral mural and saturated with smells of buttercream, it felt like a dreamy portal into the world of Alice and Wonderland. After you hit a certain age, you begin to think that a sandwich is a sandwich is a sandwich. But when I heard that the famous Jetties was opening an express shop in my hood, not even Hurricane Irene could stop us from checking it out. Our first sandwich was the Nobadeer (carved turkey and stuffing with cranberry sauce and mayonnaise on sourdough). Thanksgiving in a sandwich! Thick cuts of turkey, not the flimsy packaged kind. I even bit into a whole preserved cranberry! I've never celebrated a traditional American thanksgiving, and based on this sandwich, I'd say I'm missing out. Yum! Only downside is that it's a bit pricey at $8.65. The Smith Point (roast beef, havarti cheese, thin red onions, tomatoes, horseradish sour cream on pumpernickel) was not quite as ambitious. A very honest sandwich that was good, but no better than the sum of its parts. Nothing about it was bad, but it didn't make me as happy as the Nobadeer. You look at the sandwich, you see what you're getting, and that's exactly what you're going to get. We topped it all off with a vanilla shake, which turned out to be a bit meh. Texture was fine, but there really wasn't a vanilla flavor, more like thick whipped cream. Perhaps we should have omitted the whipped cream topping? We have only ever heard raving reviews of Jetties, and it definitely lived up to our expectations. We tried the "Surfside". Turkey, bacon, avocado, havarti, and whole grain mustard on sourdough bread. It was so yummy. I enjoyed it but my husband loved it more. I discovered this place after a recent move to the neighborhood. It's a retro- style sandwich shop that also sells dipped ice cream. The sandwiches are quite large and very tasty. Occasionally it can be crowded, especially at lunchtime. The sandwiches are good, if a bit pricy. One table inside, and a small seating area (unshaded) outside. You fill out a form with your order and hand it to the cashier to ring up, then wait for your sandwich. They also have a small selection of baked goods, and apparently do custom cake orders ( I've seen people come in and pick them up). On weekdays, beware of roving bands of etiquette-impaired inmates from the nearby St. Albans School for the Financially Gifted. My wife and I dropped in for a sandwich one day, and came back for ice cream the next. It's a crammed space with a large counter, and a tiny bench in the window providing seating for up to six friendly people. The decor was cute and fluffy, and the staff was courteous and helpful in suggesting a sandwich. We went for the beach somethingorother sandwich. It's expensive, but this is not your average deli sandwich. The turkey slices were gloriously thick, and the crunchy bacon was held in place by avocado to add some outstanding smoky texture. Even with all that, the sandwich was mildly flavored - maybe I was expecting it to have an outrageous sauce. But it tasted natural, like food, and not like overly salted lunch meat. The next day, we returned in 104 degree heat for some ice cream. I don't know what brand they serve, but it was creamy and quite good. We both got mint chocolate chip. The scoops were so generous I revised my order after seeing my wife's double scoop down to a single scoop. Somehow, the three scoops of ice cream came out to about nine dollars, but on a day like that, I'd pay it happily. It was served somewhat soft, so we had to eat it quickly. Great place to visit if you're in the area. Worth a trip? Maybe. It'd get a fifth star if it were cheaper or had some better seating. read more

They were lazy, they didn't greet you, and they plain did not care. Case in point. I ordered the Monomoy. Essentially a french dip on a sub roll. I got roast beef on a hamburger bun. HOW can you dip a hamburger bun in au jus? It gets soggy and defeats the whole sandwich. And after I got home I called to report the issue and was told "Nothing we can do" Avoid this location and just to go FoxHall. read more

Been wanting to try their Veg sandwich options (the Sconset) for a while. Went in, ordered the Sconset and the summer special veg sandwich (Summer House?) which has heirloom tomatos, sprouts, basil. The Summer special was waay better than the Sconset which was just OK (One star off). I would highly recommend the summer sandwich. I was waiting around for a while before I realized that they place the sandwich orders on the other side of the counter without really calling out your name or letting you know (not hard given than just 5-6 people fit in here at any given time). I stumbled upon Jetties on my way to the Flower Mart at the National Cathedral. I remembered seeing great reviews for Jetties on Yelp so my friends and I stopped in to check it out. Just to be clear, this is the express version of the popular Jetties that is located in Foxhall, and as an express store, the options are limited. Options: Jetties offers10 sandwich options and only one of those is vegetarian. They did have some pre-populated forms in which you are able to create your own sandwich or salad combination; however, the custom forms were not located in a conspicuous place. Jetties' also offers salads, milkshakes, coffee; and sweets from a company called Something Sweet. Food and Drink: I tried the Sconset sandwich with hummus, muenster cheese, sprouts, tomato, carrots, cucumbers and avocado on multigrain. The sandwich was chilled and fresh and pretty tasty although it could have used some salt. Unfortunately there was no salt to be found and it was difficult to get the staffs' attention to ask for any. The iced coffee looked AMAZING, like a glass of creamy white froth with swirls of caramel streaming throughout. I doubt there was actually caramel in it but it just looked so decadent. I unfortunately cannot tolerate caffeine so I had to skip out but I was definitely eyeing everyone else's coffee treats. Staff and lines: The space inside for ordering was very cramped. The line was somewhat slow moving. There were four staff members who would exchange duties. The cashier would ring your order and then fulfill your order, so at times there would be no one manning the register. Also they did a poor job of managing the line. People were coming at the register from all angles and the cashier did not keep the order of the line in tact, so we got pushed out of the way on at least one or two occasions. Seating: This location has very limited indoor seating. There is a bench/table with seating for four. Outside there are two mini tables and some benches, but passers-by seemed to be using the he benches for relaxation purposes. Payment: You can pay with a credit card. They leave a spot for a tip. I actually normally tip if there is a spot on the receipt for a tip even if I don't think ringing up my order and handing me the sandwich warrants a tip. However, I was put off by the inability or lack of effort to manage the line, and the lack of initiative to manage the ordering process in general, so I did not tip on this occasion. I sorta gave an eye roll instead to insinuate that they should get with the program. Even later, when we tried to get the staff's attention for salt etc it was just impossible to get their attention. My first (and maybe only) visit was a disappointing experience. I stopped by to pick up food to go picnic at Gravelly Point. Two kids meals, two sandwiches, a couple cokes, a couple lemonades, and a water. Before leaving, I had to remind the guy to give me drinks for the kids meals.
