Recently I inherited a cherished family heirloom; an 1890's Stella music box. It had sat for years untouched and deconditioned. As excited as I was to receive it, I was dismayed to hear how out of sorts "she" had become. Finding someone to help us was another conundrum. It's not like there are schools that crank out antique music box repairmen! I did a LOT of investigating, researching and gumshoeing. I had spoken to several clock and jewelry repairmen and shop owners. I kept hearing over and over again about this little shop in Haddonfield, NJ...Jewelry and TImepiece Mechanix. So I called... When I brought my musicbox to their shop, they were immediately excited to see and hear it. Together they were able to diagnose, repair and refurbish our "dear Stella" to its original sound. (or at least what I imagine it would have sounded like 130 years ago) I was able to reveal our newly refurbished music box at our annual Christmas party. She made an outstanding centerpiece. My mother and sisters were over the moon at how well she sounded, as were all of the guests. I told Bill that my family is so thankful to both he and Tom for doing such a thorough and detailed reconditioning/refurbishing project. I only wish my dear departed grandfather could hear her heavenly notes. Extremely expensive and they just don't care about you as a person. They don't remember you when you come in. They play around with pricing like a used car salesman would do. I asked for one thing and just didn't quite get what I wanted because it wasn't convenient for them. They begged for a Facebook recommendation. It was kind of hilarious. They're shitty at reading the room, shitty at reading people. And everything is a song and a dance and and epic story. I'm a tech person and a logical shopper and they're in the business of trying to make consumers make irrational emotional decisions. Not all jewelers do this, just the lame ones. The work they do is quality but they're kind of like restaurant wine lists - they charge the price of the bottle for a glass. I think I paid 3x the amount the watch was worth just to have a battery replaced, water seal work (whatever that is) and a new band that wasn't the one I requested. They didn't have that one in stock so they gave me what they wanted to give me instead. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES AND THEIR PROFIT MARGINS. read more

Terrible service. I brought my watch in for a repair. I wasn't given an estimate for leaving my watch for repair. I was told when the watch is complete I will be given the cost. To protect myself, I asked if they could confirm with me before doing work. They said fine and I left. 10 min later I got a call from the owner saying it's typically $45-$55 if this was an easy job. I said no problem but could be more depending on if the watch has a bigger issue. I said that's fine I just wasn't told about any pricing. He said I was incorrect and the woman said there's a $75 deposit to work and it could be less but it's just to hold a depot for their work. I told him that was incorrect because if that was true, I would have had to leave a deposit and wasn't asked to. He abruptly said I was wrong and to come pick up my watch because he didn't want to work on it anymore. If I could give less than 1 star I would. This guy is a prick. Don't waste your time. Go somewhere they will appreciate your business. Great owners don't need to tell others about his business success. He'd have hundreds of positive reviews. Sadly, I see 7 positive ones. Excellent excellent excellent. Bill, the barefoot jeweler, is a funny guy... sometimes telling jokes that will make your wife blush, but he is honest, willing to help, and incredibly nice. This is easily a man and jeweler you can trust. If you are looking for someone to not give you the run-around, to tell you straight-up what you need for a repair or sale without the fear of being ripped-off, then look no further. Bill's the guy. He is also a great starting point. He is a no pressure salesman. I highly recommend coming to him even if you are just looking for advice or looking for an honest place to start out on your search for presents, engagement rings, repairs, etc etc. I came to him looking for an engagement ring. He taught me about diamonds, settings, and all the possibilities he had to offer (which includes designing and making everything from scratch). In the end, he hooked me up with some other people on jeweler's row in Philadelphia to make the final sale. That's why I was so happy with him... he showed me his stock, and when I didn't find what I wanted, he took me to Philly to narrow it down. You can also expect to come here and not feel weird or out of place. There is free coffee, a nice place to sit, good people to talk with, and on some occasions... snacks, wine, and beer. If you come here, you can expect to feel comfortable and relaxed... none of that annoying, high-class, fancy, trying to get commission from you crap that you might deal with or are afraid of from other shops. Also... Bill has a secret weapon at his shop... Tom, the watchmaker. Easily the most respected private watch maker/repairman on the east coast. Tom gets work from around the world... to repair and restore timepieces dating back hundreds of years that no other man knows how to repair. My husband has bought things from this unsavory gentleman before, without me there. We went in together to pick out a necklace for Christmas and I was immediately accosted by this mans chauvinistic demeanor. Upon trying on a necklace, he commented on how my husband is now going to want to run his hand all over my body. But it didn't stop there. I had trouble with the clasp of a necklace, as did my husband, and Mr. Creepy helped out and then commented on how he would run his fingers all over my body...ha ha ha. NOT FUNNY. With the look of another necklace he told me that I needed to put on a little black dress and some F me pumps and I would get whatever I wanted from my husband. My husband was playing with the mans dog and completely clueless to all of this, unfortunately. Final straw was when after 30 minutes of looking, with me being the ONLY customer in the place, he commented that I needed to start "whittling things down" as he had too much merchandise on the counter! HA!! There was at most $2000 retail out! I left the place crying. It was a shame because the $820 necklace I really loved and would have bought. The only bright spot out of the whole visit was his beautiful assistant, who was a very polite and gracious young lady. read more

I can't say enough about Bill and his staff. They are incredibly friendly and always greet you when you walk in. There is never any pressure, but they are always willing to answer any questions you may have. I went in to buy an engagement ring and I had no knowledge of anything related to jewelry...All I knew was I wanted to wow my girlfriend. Bill walked me through the entire process, and created me a custom ring that was well within my price ring. The ring blew my (now) fiance away!! I took my 20+ year old Seiko automatic dive watch to this local business when the stem began to stick. I was charged $65 for an estimate, which amount would be applied to any subsequent charge. Two weeks later (after I called to inquire twice with no progress) I was told the repairs would cost $345. The purchase price of the watch was about $200. When I advised that I would not enlist them to perform the repairs that they recommended, they responded that I could retrieve my watch and there would be "no charge". I replied that I had already paid $65 and asked if that would be returned, they said no. $65 is a significant charge to determine that the cost to repair a $200 watch would be $345. I will not recommend this business to others. read more
