Custom custom custom! I was referred to Jewelry By Design and the owner Jenny Caro by a friend of mine almost five years ago before my wedding. I needed a wedding band and new that I wanted a custom job. I knew exactly what I wanted in my head but Jenny helped me bring it to life. She also introduced me to world of estate diamonds...let me see a "used" diamond at a fraction of the price. Who knew!! I will never buy diamonds full price again! (Not that I buy diamonds on a regular basis!) The band came out beautifully! They offered free engraving which I took advantage of. One of the reasons it is only four stars vs. five is the engraving is crooked. It makes my ring unique sure enough but is a little hard to read at the end. The second reason it only received four stars is about two weeks after I got married a stone fell out of the setting. Luckily I found it and Jenny was great about re-setting it and checking all the prongs. Four years later I have had no issues. She was able to source those and sent me the link to purchase them directly free of charge. I can't speak to the store itself, but this employee has wonderful customer service and follow-up so that bodes well in my mind for the rest of the store! read more

I have used JBD for many different repairs and projects. I was greeted by one SA to whom I stated I was looking to purchase a custom-made necklace. She immediately passed me to another SA. Why? I don't know and it doesn't matter. So, I'm working with the new SA. I stated I have used JDB many times for many different reasons. I state what I'm trying to do, have a custom initial diamond necklace made for my wife's. I showed her an example that I had found on the internet. She showed me a necklace that they had in the store which wasn't even close to what I was looking for, but we ended up agreeing on the style of chain which they had on display. She showed me a book that had examples of font lettering products. I showed her a few I had located on the internet right there in the store. She agreed to contact the vendor and send me a mark-up of the product the following week. I asked if she could email me the mark-up as I will be out of town. She stated it was against store policy to email mark-ups out. (Remember I showed her an example of what I was looking for.) I stated that I would be gone a week. She stated she would be out of the office at that time. In the end, she agreed to email me the mark-up. She completed the Order Form with my contact information. I go out of town and I call JBD asking about the mark-up, as I have not seen any emails. I described the SA I had worked with, and the item I was trying to get made. An SA stated there was nothing in their system but she did recognize the SA I described. She stated my SA was out of the office, but she would contact her and see if the information would be sent over. I again was looking forward to being contacted. NOTHING. I contacted JBD again, seeking information well, they finally contacted the SA and she emailed me the two mark-ups. I agree to one of the mark-ups and state to send me the invoice so that I can pay for this item (in full) to get it started. I confirmed a few things about the custom piece initials will be solid gold with diamonds, and the length of the necklace. She confirms the letters and diamonds but states the length would be different. I stated, it's custom why can't the length be changed? The SA states she can and will send the invoice by text and email. My wife receives the text from the SA. Now, I'm past frustrated moving into pissed-off. I contacted the SA via email stating she sent it to the wrong person. (Proof we have used them in the past. So much so they have my wife's and my info in their system.) I understand mistakes happen, but I was not happy with the customer service I received on this visit. 1. Being passed from one SA to another. It felt like she judged me and I wasn't worth her time. She wasn't busy and did nothing but watch the SA and myself go through the Order Form. 2. My SA was trying to get me into a product they had in the store, but it wasn't even close to what I wanted. 3. Nothing my SA said she would do within the time frame she said she would do it was done. The mark-ups weren't sent out. I wasn't contact about they delay in sending the mark-ups. She didn't even pass off her Purchase Order (PO) to another SA's to answer questions or check on PO's. 4. The killing of the deal was sending the PO to my wife. She had my contact into in the JBD system and on the PO. Now, the only way she would have gotten my wife's information was by looking into their JBD system, because her information wasn't on the PO. 5. To add gas to the fire. When I confirmed the details (length of the necklace) that I wanted on a custom item, she stated it couldn't be done. Really? UPDATE: So, I have found a different jewelry shop in the area. They were fantastic from when I entered the store. I told them the particulars; the SA showed me a few items they had done before on a computer. She was able to use their CAD design and rotate it around in a 3-D format. She was able to show me what the design could look like using different fonts, different golds, different diamond shapes and sizes all right there in the store on the computer in real-time. I was sold. We picked out a font, a color of gold, and sizes of diamonds. I didn't ask about price until all the particulars had been worked out. Then she gave me the price, I agreed and that was that. They were even able to make the necklace so that the length could be changed. A week later the SA sent me a proof. I asked about a change in the way the initials were laid out. She adjusted the lettering and I agreed. She sent me the invoice to get started, I paid it the next day in full and two weeks later I received my the necklace. My wife loved it. It looked great. It was such a simple process that I am having this new store do other products for me, NOT JBD ever again. read more

Jewelry by Designs My wife and I went there for her to have some jewelry repaired. The person that assisted my wife to have the band on a new watch shortened did it incorrectly. When we returned to pick it up the watch it was still way too large so we had to wait to get it shortened more. Got the watch back and the jeweler didn't set the time on the watch. Neither did he inform my wife that the watch needed a battery. While we were there the lady that incorrectly measured the band tried to sell my wife a $20,000 ring. When my wife said she wasn't interested she showed her an $80,000 ring. I think this was just an insult. When I got home I called them to inform them that it has been my experience that when I bring a watch to a jeweler to have it worked on they set the time and will inform you if the watch is working or not. So they said that they would install a battery complimentary if I bought the battery. I purchased a battery and brought the watch in a few days later to have them install the battery. Now they tell me I have to wait two days to install a battery. Stupid me thinking that I would walk in and wait a few minutes for a task that would take no longer than five minutes. Well now that I'm there the other jewelry we brought to repair was ready. The person I had to deal with barely looked at me. She would take my money all right but that was it. No personality. Same one that showed my wife and $80,000 ring that my wife wasn't interested in. That's the last time I'll walk into that store. I used to shop there often a while back. Don't know who took over in 2020 but I'm sure in time they'll close their doors. read more

They seemed to have gone downhill. Their used/estate jewelry is beyond expensive as well as their new jewelry. I feel as if this business took a turn years ago and the pandemic likely caused further impact. It just doesn't have the energy it had 10 years ago. When you visit, it feels strange as well...not the same. Hopefully they will get better. I purchased a necklace from there because I felt bad going in and not purchasing anything but I found a better quality of jewelry at Nordstrom's and unfortunately I returned their silver necklace. My how things have changed there in the last few months! Went from dealing with a few difficulties that I thought had been worked out to nothing but failures. Family owned business where the family is more important than the customer. Smile at you then stab you in the back....and that's how they treat a long-standing customer! Squeezed out hardworking and caring staff. Greed, incompetence, and retaliation for speaking truth about family members is more important than ethics and honesty. Hiring family members, friends, and those with little experience into key positions is common here. I expect karma will be knocking at their door sometime soon. read more

I've been shopping at JBD since I was ~17 (23 now) primarily because my mother has several pieces of jewelry from them. I mainly shop at JBD for their Pandora and Alex and Ani selection, I also have two rings and several pairs of earrings from JBD. Being "so young" and usually dressed fairly casual, I must say, customer service is so horrible that I hate going to JBD. Rarely am I ever greeted let alone asked if I need any help until I look like I need it. I do not need my hand to be held from the moment I walk in to when I leave, but it would be nice to be treated with the same respect I see being given to other customers or to my mother when I go with her. Positives: If something needs to be ordered, the process is usually very quick and they will give you a call as soon as it is ready. The pandora selection is great and well organized and they get the newer charms faster than most places in Woodbridge. read more

My husband purchased a Pandora charm for our anniversary it was one I already had so I went in with a receipt and the charm and they wouldn't even exchange it bc of some sale they are having. Will never be patronizing this business again. The owners comment that they provided notification that there's no refunds or exchanges however that's if you purchased during their liquidation. My husband purchased prior to their liquidation but WITHIN their standard return/exchange timeframe per the recipient. Any good business would have at the least honored an exchange given the item was purchased prior to their liquidation sale but still within their return timeframe. I wouldn't dare purchase any high end jewelry from a place like this...no idea how they're still in business. read more

This is a store with not just quality products, but also an incredibly helpful staff, and a heart for caring for the community. I continue to be impressed by them each time I visit. Today they not only helped resize my rings, they also helped with the prongs holding my stone in place which I hadn't realized were gone, and went above and beyond to keep the engraving inside my ring which was special to me. If I could leave one star I would. My Fiancée and I stopped in today shopping for wedding rings. After not being greeted and walking around for several minutes I finally got the attention of an associate. Unfortunately they were not very concerned about helping us and said maybe someone in the back could help us. We walked around for at least 10 minutes to no avail. (I even ain't a piece of St Paddy's cake while we were there). While I saw some men's wedding bands Their watch selection was terrible (if you can even call no name brands and Invicta watches). Shame that their customer service was awful because I like to help local businesses when possible. UPDATED: WE WERE able to help out a local business and went to Mervis! Their customer service and selection was OUTSTANDING! Encourage everyone to avoid JBD and go straight to Mervis in Tysons Corner. My husband and I stopped by the store today and was greeted by Karen. She was very sweet,helpful and especially patient with me because I was so indecisive with all the beautiful jewelry. At the end I picked out a beautiful layers diamond necklace and adjustable diamond bracelet. Jenny gave us a special deal because I love these items much. The reason I took off one star because the lady in the back wrapped up my items in crappy cheap paper boxes. This was the WORST experience I've ever had at a jewelry store! I called asking after a specific ring, which they said they had. The lady on the phone was very nice and helpful since I wanted to customize it a little bit. When I went into the store, it was a completely different story. The woman "helping" me quickly informed me that they could not do what I was requesting and the only way around it was to purchase the ring, then have them buy back two diamonds on the ring - under cost, of course, THEN buy the sapphires to put in their place. I asked if there was any other designer who would do this or make what I was asking easier and she told me the only other designer who would do it is Tacori and that it was "out of my budget" (I never even mentioned what my budget was). Jon Caro had designed my mom's wedding ring, which I always loved. The wedding band was beautifully wrapped around my mom's engagement ring. My husband and I went to Jon with a very specific vision for our wedding bands hoping he would be able to make them, and he did. Jon is the most talented and skilled jeweler we know. My husband's band is a white gold band with reverse beading around the center which is filled with blue ceramic. My band consists of two bands designed to look as though they are wrapped around her engagement ring and the bands are filled with blue sapphires. AMAZING!! I originally went in to get a few links taken out of a new watch and came away with SOO much more. I should start with why I went here instead of a watch store. The last time I went to a watch store in a nearby mal, they were rude and stripped one of the pins which caused the watch to fall right off my wrist, so no way was I going back to them. So I looked for a nearby place to get links taken out of my new watch and Jewelry By Design came up so I decided to go check it out. I went and was greeted right away and in just a few moments they took care of me. They charged me LESS than the "watch" store and were OH SOO MUCH friendlier. After the very fast service, I asked if there were anyway that they could get me a new pin for the other watch that I couldn't wear. They told me to bring it in and either they would replace the pin or make a new one to fit. I was a bit surprised after what I was told by the "watch" place, that if I lost the original pins that I would be stuck. I took the watch back to Jewelry By Design and they took great care of me. The watch was not ready on the original day stated because of a minor mix up. The gentleman who took care of my watch, called to personally apologize for the mix up, and made certain to take good care of me and my watch. I could NOT be happier!! Oh and I found a stunning little ring in the Estate section that was not just beautiful and unique, but an amazing price as well. Jumping on the 5 star bandwagon!!! My fiancé and I stopped in at JBD and were dishonest about why we were there. We thought we'd found our perfect rings online and were too impatient to wait for the free sizing kit to arrive, so we decided to go in to a jewelry store to "shop" for rings. In thinking back, I realize how wrong that was. We looked around to see if they had rings similar to those we'd already found. We wanted to show ourselves how smart we were to get such a great deal online. That's not exactly how it went. We were greeted by Marilyn and she was so pleasant and so helpful without a bit of pressure, that we found ourselves seriously looking at rings there. She seemed to have a sense of what we'd like that would be within our unspoken price range. She brought out a beautiful ring that I said would probably be perfect if it had a blue sapphire in the center. She said "we can do that. " I'm imaginative, but I hesitated because I just wasn't sure without seeing. She went into the back to see if they had a sapphire that would work so I could see, but they didn't. THEN she goes on this mad hunt for a blue marker. She used a combination of black and electric blue marker to color the stone. THAT is when she made the sale. For the price of JUST the ring we were going to purchase for me online (the one that I couldn't see and touch until AFTER we'd paid and waited for it to arrive) we were able to purchase my sapphire and diamond ring, a diamond band to go with it, a very cool and interesting wedding band for my fiancé AND the lifetime warranty. It wasn't until they started rolling out the carts to put things away for closing that I realized we'd been there for about 2.5 hours.
