The staff was very friendly and our order was correct. We ordered 4 dishes and egg rolls. Everyone enjoyed the entrees but agreed the egg rolls were a disappointment. I probably felt the dishes were the most average out of everyone in our group but I still enjoyed it. I felt they lacked flavor for your typical American Chinese food but it still hit the spot. This review is solely for the Sesame Tofu. Tea Garden is in no way a convenient takeout spot for me but alas, bad cravings happen to good people. No shame, though. There is much better Chinese in Grand Rapids, but I'm a sucker for their Sesame Tofu which is perfectly breaded and delicious and consistently tasty. Their Crab Rangoon is the triangle-type and has a sweeter filling that lacks a crab/onion flavor- this is not my favorite kind of crab cheese, but still work an order. Hands down this is the best Chinese food in Grand Rapids! It is always hot, fresh and packed full of flavor. When dining in, order at the counter and before you know it here it comes and it's hot! I ordered delivery, so I can't give atmosphere views or service quality, so those get the benefit of doubt. I ordered a large Bourbon chicken ($14), minus broccoli. A large Happy Family ($18), again minus broccoli. Plus a large Plain Lo Mein noodles ($10), with extra sauce. Lets start with the positives. They got the special requests done perfectly. The food also tasted wonderful with nice large portions. Now to the bad, and in my opinion very bad! The worse thing was the ratio of Meat to Veggies. For both meals it was about 30% meat to 70% veggies. Personally i think those need to be swapped if not greater. Absolute minimum to me would be 50/50. Chinese food is always pricey, but for those ratios it was too pricey! Also the sauce for the Happy family needs something more, spice maybe. The proteins in it were excellent though. Overall, mainly because of ratio, is a 3 star review. Would I return? Yes to see if ratio was better. If it is my rating will go up! read more

Pretty solid Chinese takeout. We tend not to both with delivery anymore, so we picked our food right on time. Is was immediately ready. Bang bang chicken is like a better sweet and sour idea- Spicy and sweet. Lo mein had big chunks of pork. Kung pow tofu was ordered spicy but was just normal. Tofu was fried very well. The inside is clean with a few tables, order only took 10 minutes, the receptionist was easy to understand, and my delicious order was ready right on time! The crab rangoons (6 of them for $4.50) are triangles with a flaky crust and fairly small amount of filling to breading ratio, but I thought they were delicious! The General Tsos chicken ($9) was the best I've ever had from take-out! All solid little white pieces of chicken with just enough fried breading.. and not spicy like it often is. Tried it for the first time last night and the food was great! I got the General Tso chicken which wasn't spicy, but had a good meat to breading ratio, and I also got the crab rangoons. They were the kind that are triangles and there wasn't quite as much filling as I was hoping but it was still good! The dinner came with fried rice and fried spring roll as well. We have been going to Tea Garden since it opened (15 yearsish.) We went last night for the first time in awhile. They're food is not the same. I ordered Bourbon Chicken. Never have I ever seen cabbage with Bourbon Chicken. I wouldn't have been too upset if it was just that cabbage was in it, but it was that the entire tray was mostly cabbage. Very average. I was disappointed that it tasted like Mall Food Court Chinese. Sweet and Sour chicken sauce was from a can, no pineapple/green pepper/onion, and rice just steamed and not truly fried either. So chicken, w a bowl of sauce to dip in. Not a bad deal at all. Fried rice was okay, no mix-ins like eggs, peas, carrots like what I'm used too in fried rice but it was good. Crab Rangoon comes with the meal, which was also on par. I took this to-go but ended up eating inside the restaurant. Food was pretty quick, made to order which was nice. Quiet, small setting. Drink is not included. We walked in ad were greeted very prompt and politely. She asked what we liked and made a suggestion of the spicy Kung Fu Chicken. A coworker got that and liked it, but wishes it was a tad spicier. I got the Bang Bang Chicken. There are no descriptions in the menu of what anything is, so all I had to go on was a picture and that it was spicy. Our meals came out STEAMING hot, which was nice. My chicken had a touch of sweet to it, which I didn't enjoy, but overall it was tasty. I'm a regular traveler to Grand Rapids for business. I've sampled a few of the Chinese take-outs in the area, and this is my favorite. As with most Chinese take-outs, this is a very Americanized version, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'm guessing this is a family run place, as I always see the same handful of employees there, and sometimes their children too. They have gotten to know me and my regular dishes, so I don't even have to tell them my order when I walk in. One of these days, I will try something new and surprise them! They have all of the typical Chinese dishes. The servings are a good size for the money. Everything is packaged in high quality plasticware. They do have tables to dine inside if you wish. I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for my order. This is a great little cozy spot and will continue to frequent. read more

Yes! Finally found my go-to place for Chinese takeout! I have to admit I'm an appetizer girl and I crave Crab Rangoon like it's nobody's business. Finally found a place in Grand Rapids that knows how to make it! Came in last night and everyone was super friendly. The crab rangoons here are amazing! The lunch specials make my day since I work in this area and can get a whole takeout box (that comes with two crab rangoons and rice) for $5 and some change. Definitely worth a stop by if you're on the go and want a quick and yummy meal! I wouldn't say that this place is the best Chinese place ever, but it's definitely good. It's a hit or miss with the chicken for me. It can have a strange texture at times and I'm not quite sure why. If you do decide to go around lunch make sure you call ahead or have time to spare, because it gets busy and you'll have to wait about 15 minutes to get your meal. read more

This was NOT a good meal. Had generals chicken dinner with wonton soup and chicken fried rice, and a egg roll. I have never seen a breaded chicken used for wonton filling in a soup‍, Lazy! Lazy is how I would describe all of it. No flavor on the broth, processed frozen chewy chicken for the generals chicken. No vegetables in the rice at all except giant onion chunks.
