I want to share the experiences I have been having with Randy's Downtown Garage. I brought my car…read morein because my fuel door wouldn't open. Randy's said the fuel door and spring mechanism would need to be ordered and they charged me $546 to fix the door. I trusted them (my error for sure) and didn't research the estimate they gave and had them do the work. I later began to look into the costs and found that the price for a fuel door for my car was at the most $112, while Randy's charged me $245. Furthermore I learned when I dropped by the dealership that it wasn't necessary to replace the fuel door to fix the clip and spring that were the problem. In fact, Randy's charged me for those parts separately as well, at a rate more than double what the dealership cost. The dealership offered an estimate of $201 to repair the fuel door, a full $345 more than Randy's charged. I wrote a civil letter to Randy's and their owner, Harry Curtin, asking for a refund of the difference between what they charged and the more customary charge of $201. Two months later I have (of course) not heard nor received anything. I would strongly advise anyone to be very cautious with Randy's Downtown Garage. Certainly don't accept any estimate from them (as I did) as reasonable. I have not found them to be an honest business.

It was a no start after unit replacement. I waited 4 WEEKS for them to fix the issue. They threw a parts cannon at it, changing ficm, icp, removing glow plugs, etc. said my rigid fuel line was leaking, never had an issue with that, and i never approved it, but charged me anyway. they did an OBD scan couldn't find the issue, then said they refuse to work on it. I had it towed to a diesel only shop, it was running in two days. Randy's charged me $800 for labor.(justify that) They were going to charge me $1000 for the unit. I bought the part for $190 and I was pressured to have it shipped overnight. $325 total. I could have saved $130 because it just sat for weeks. Basically I paid over $1000 for that experience, It STILL DIDN'T RUN. In total, $1600 total for a fuel sending unit and IPR sensor. By both shops.

We had it towed to University Auto Repair, where we were told the radiator needed to be replaced and the fluids refilled. That immediately raised a red flag because the radiator had been replaced less than a month earlier. Rather than authorize the repair, I decided to have the car towed all the way back to Phoenix to the shop that had just installed the new radiator. Sure enough, there was nothing wrong with the radiator. It was simply a hose. My shop in Phoenix fixed the problem and didn't even charge us. Afterward, I read through several other poor reviews about University Auto Repair, and I'm extremely glad I trusted my instincts and had the car towed elsewhere. I can only draw one of two conclusions from our experience: either their mechanics completely misdiagnosed a relatively simple problem, or they were recommending an expensive repair that the car did not need. Either way, that is extremely concerning. We paid to tow the vehicle roughly 140 miles back to Phoenix rather than trust their diagnosis, and it turned out to be the right decision. My advice: If you're told you need a major or expensive repair here, get a second opinion before authorizing anything.

Logan was super helpful, and took the time to help me even in the middle of this insane drunk couple screaming and getting aggressive with him in the lobby while he was talking to me. I have genuinely never experienced anything like what was happening. Logan had previously offered to get their car immediately back to them, and that it just needed to be put back together first. After further aggression, he asked them to leave, they continued to come back in and verbally attack him, cops were called by the drunks, and then the drunk boyfriend attempted to assault one of the cops that they literally called themselves- ending in him being arrested. And all the while they treated me with priority, kindness, and compassion. I even received a voucher for a free oil change and an offer for them to help another issue all for free. Seriously the nicest and most professional people I have ever met. Have never seen a place that can deal with drunks, cops, and witness reports while still looking at my car and keeping me updated. As well as getting it done in about 30 minutes. All for free. Seriously above and beyond, there's not words to describe how great these people are.

When my car was finally done, he tried to overcharge me, even though we had discussed price both when I made my appointment, and when I dropped the car off. I asked again if they checked my tire pressure since I'm going on a long drive tomorrow, he said "Yes - they do that automatically." The staff was quick help and also took the time to check on an issue for me. I was even shown an area of a small oil leak to where I will be taking my car in to get a mechanic to inspect. Oh they also change your windshield wipers!! I would advise, dont show up 5 min before they close! Everyone has a right to go home at the end of the day. The longer the line before closing or at any time the longer you are gonna wait to get your car done and keep them working late. Also, don't be like the guy below and show up right before your doctors appointment and blame the oil change line and manager for being late. Duh!
