Good quality food in an area that has not one good restaurant. Go in and prove me wrong.

I HOPE SOMEONE FROM MANAGEMENT SEES THIS... WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?!? My son & I stop at least 1-2 times per week for breakfast burritos & we stop for lunch often as well, it has been very inconsistent. I keep thinking maybe the usual cook is on vacation on something, but it's only getting worse. When I was in a few days ago another couple were complaining about their order & they informed me that a when a certain gentleman is working they won't even order anymore because he is making the burrito's half the size they use to. Which is the problem we are having also. They raised the price to 15 dollars a burrito & most days they are coming out half the size they use to & with hardly any meat & mostly potatoes. I didn't the 15 which is ridiculous for a breakfast burrito, but I agree with the couple that was complaining, I'm not going to pay 15 for half the size, when I can go down the street & get two for 8 bucks. The food is so hot and miss also. I love the taquito's platter for lunch. One day I will order and it will be great & the next they are so burned & hard as rock I can't even chew them. THE LADY CASHIER IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL...I DO HOPE MANAGEMENT SEES THIS & GET'S TRAINING ALL STAFF ON HOW TO BE CONSISTENT & HOW TO MAKE EVERYTHING CORRECTLY, SO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR GOING TO GET EVERY TIME. I love to support small businesses/mom & pop places, but if a change doesn't happen, then I will take my business down the road. read more

I believe I recently reviewed this spot, so I'm confused why it popped up on my Yelp "algorithm"? Since I'm positive I did recently review Jilbertos, I will keep this one brief, just in case I am mistaken or possibly never posted it. Love it! With a full menu of items I've always ordered the burritos and taquitos. Both outstanding. The burritos are literally bigger than my forearm! And the carne asade is some of the best I've ever had! Food is slipping lately. I am not sure who is doing the preparing, but after years of buying from there, I have gotten bones in my chicken and a nasty piece of chicken skin instead of meat in my pollo asada. Prices are high and we understand it's everywhere, but we should at least get the same quality of food as we did in the past. read more

Daaaammmnnnn! This might just be the best Mexican food in all of California. My dad and I drive down to buy oranges, and it usually takes us 3 hrs each way and I hate it, but after finding Jilbertos, I don't mind the drive. The tacos are the best hard shell taco I've ever had. Reminds me of Tito's in LA but way better. I think about this food daily and pray they open one in LA. So tasty! read more

Best Food! We eat Mexican food often and we were so impressed by this place! We were so blown away! Food was exceptional!

I will be totally honest with you guys, but it totally breaks my heart giving them one star because when ever I was hungry because I never ate because I had homework I would go here. But one day I called them and the lady picked up around 11:30 -12pm. I asked for carne asada fries with the meat well done and I simply asked her if she wouldn't mind checking if my meat was well done since I can't eat red meat unless it cooked well done, and she answers me by saying "the way they cook it is the way it is, that not my problem" I simply asked her in a way could support me in checking my meat was crispy and not some snarky attitude, in my opinion it was so unnecessary from them since I always thought they had nice customer service, guess not. We as customers have the right to ask them to look out for our food and not just be laughed about it or cared less for since it is our health, and not the inconvenience of others. read more

Best Mexican food I've had anywhere in Southern California. It's off the beaten path but I'd drive to eat there again.

The staff is very friendly and the carrots are free and the salsa bar is nice. Probably the best place to eat in valley center.

Being born and raised in San Diego, I have been to more Mexican food places then I can count. But this one is memorable. One of the best burritos I've ever had... I might even bring the family here sometime for a little road trip. It's not hard to get to, but it is off the beaten path. Highly recommend! read more

We're not local to Jilbertos, so we had a hard time finding the actual location. It turns out, it's located in a convenience store. We ordered a couple of breakfast items, and both were delightful. The food was piping hot, very flavorful. That said, it felt odd ordering food from a convenience store. Once you get over that and focus on the quality of the food, it's actually quite good! A solid Mexican food spot in VC located inside Town Center Market. I recommend calling ahead as there is not much space inside to wait around unless you're comfortable standing while they prepare your food. They used to have guac sauce at this location a few years back, which I miss, but the salsa selection is still decent. read more

I was searching for some different food than the choices at Harrahs Casino and found Jilbertos. A true hold in the wall, but good variety of Mexican food with large portions at a reasonable price point. You can tell that this is a popular spot based on the number of locals eating here or getting takeout. I'll need to organize a party at the hotel so that I can order the monster burrito that looks like it will feed 20 people. read more

Let me start with this... I'm not normally a huge fan of rolled tacos, but yesterday, I had a craving, and this is one of the few local spots for Mexican food in VC. HOLY COW, they were amazing! Maybe it's the combination of cheeses they put on top, but these are like crack: SO addicting! Their red hot sauce is pretty spicy, just how I love it, and their portion sizes, in my opinion, are pretty big. I'd order from here again... and again and again! It was so great to find this place close to our hotel. Got the carne asada torta. Meat is so tender and bread is good, wish it was a little more toasty though. Also got the cabeza and fish taco, Cabeza was better - it reminded me of lengua, it was delicious. Fish was crunchy and good. Fries was not bad either. Inside the liquor store which was a little disappointing because I didn't want to eat in my car. But the gal who took our order was very nice. They have a salsa bar and allow you to get your own which you never see anymore (Covid) so have your sanitizer ready. I had chicken rolled tacos that were pretty good. The guacamole could use a little more flavor but it was a good size portion for the $3.99 price. My husband had the cabeza tacos. Not the best but good for a quick lunch. Morning crew usually always on point! Maybe my perception of the food is influenced by how great the ladies are up front but I find it's by far the better meat quality for my tastebuds. So we have a home in Valley Center. Not many options in the area. Really had high expectations for our meals since Robertos at the beach is one of our go to places since the 80's. Visited several times and these last couple of times has been very disappointing. Food is not hot/fresh, girls at the register were not friendly. My suggestion is to drive a bit further to Pala. They have a Jilberto's that is so much better, a dining area and the staff is friendly. read more
