I've always passed by when at Harrah's but have never thought to stop by. I got tired of the overpriced food options at Harrah's and decided to read up on the reviews and wanted to give them a try. I was a bit skeptical about the reviews and people not knowing good Mexican food especially due to the location. I come from close to the border so I'm familiar with all the hole in the wall spots in the hood! The prices were average and what I'm used to at my local taco shops. Boy was I wrong and I am sooo glad I tried. I have been missing out! I love Mexican food and I'm mad I never tried them out sooner before overpaying for franchised typical American foods at the food court at Harrah's! It's small and quant inside with a salsa bar! I love salsa bars especially since a lot of places tend to be greedy with hot sauces. The huge plus for me was free hot carrots! I'm used to paying extra for that. Also in their salsa bar they have extra pico de gallo! What?! That's usually an extra cost too! They had 2 types of red and green sauces. I'm opinionated on how I feel that hot sauces make up a good taco shop. They were fire!!! All good, flavorful, and spicy the way I like it! My favorite was the dark red one and the creamy green one. All were spicy though in a good way! We ordered cheese quesadilla, cali supreme burrito, and el jefe rolled tacos. Can't go wrong with cheese quesadilla it's so simple and so delicious. I noticed the cali supreme burrito didn't come with pico but good thing they had the extra on the side because it was added onto every bite. My husband and son loved it. I freaking loved my el jefe rolled tacos! You don't even know how surprised I was and blown away at how amazing they were! They included all the toppings such as lettuce, pico, sour cream, guac, cheese, and the nail in the coffin was the carne on top! They didn't skimp out on anything! Found this spot as we were staying at Harrahs and didn't want to eat the food at the hotel again due to its cost. We were fortunate to find this Mexican food spot a little down the way. The food was priced about average. The quality was up to par with most Mexican shops in San Diego, and the portions are pretty good. I enjoyed the carne asada quesadilla and the rolled tacos. Lots of salsas to choose from!!! This was great. There were lots of different combos at an affordable price too! Whenever I'm in the area, I always stop by here. I love the fact that they are next to liquor store and fruit stand. So you get to pick up few items if you are staying within the area for few days or to just hike around. Carne asada plate is always a good choice. Not to mention their smaller tacos. Only thing we did not enjoy much was the fish tacos, it was more batter than fish. Fish so small portion that you couldn't even tell or taste its fish taco. Also be warned when sitting outside, there will be lots of flies so best to stay and eat inside. Team members are good. I can't believe it took me this long to finally stop here. We pass by it all the time on our way to Harrah's Casino and I always say the name in my head while we drive by. Harrah's has ridiculous prices for food so we decided to try this spot out finally instead of driving to a bigger city and we are so glad we did. We ordered the carne asada burrito and the El Jefe rolled tacos plate. There is seating and TVs on the inside but you can choose to sit outside as well. Nothing fancy, but can seat a lot of people. The staff were really nice and food came out pretty fast. The carne asada burrito was an absolute unit. Huge and had a great ratio of rice, beans and meat. The El Jefe rolled tacos plate is everything I've ever wanted in a roll taco plate. It comes with guacamole and salsa with carne asada on top. Again, huge portion. What surprised me the most was their excellent salsa bar. All their salsas were tasty and they even had hot carrots. It hits the spot for San Diego style Mexican food and the value is really good. read more

Don't doubt the reviews, they're true! My partner has been coming here for over 20 years (maybe early on was under different ownership) and this place has always remained a staple in this area. Today we ordered a breakfast burrito with ham, and one with machaca. They're good size for the price, and include potatoes and cheese! The one with ham was delicious, although the potatoes were a little undercooked this time. The one with machaca was the best my partner remembered having anywhere - so flavorful it didn't need salsa and the meat was tender and juicy! We also got some walnuts from the farm stand outside, and a bag of ice from the liquor store next door. Until next time! read more

Driving from Harrah's is only a 5 minute venture. Upon arrival I noticed a cute fruit stand in front of the restaurant. Parking lot is very big and not only is this a restaurant and fruit selling establishment but this place also has a liquor store located in the rear! We quickly placed our order of bean and eggs cheese burrito and carne asada burrito with a side of freshly made chips. It took some time to receive but we didn't mind since we knew iour food would be made fresh. I hit up the salsa bar and enjoyed our large jimiaca drink, this place is awesome! The food was so delicious and so made right that it makes you think of your childhood days when your nana or abuela would make you fresh home cooked meals. I love both Jilbertos. This was the second place we hit up on our way to Harrahs. I must say you have to stop here before going into the casino and spending so much money on the food over there. This is so much better! Take it to go and eat in your room! Relax and enjoy authentic food with hopefully a great view from your room! Atmosphere - The signs for the place are hard to see from the car while driving thru the round about. The inside is awkward as you walk in and boom salsa bar, and above it is the menu. All the seating is to the left of the entrance. Those cheap looking industrial fast food benches and tables. They remind me as kid what DQ used, maybe they still use them. Then you go a bit to the register to order. Food Drink - A liquor store is right next store, so I picked up a 6 pack for the hotel while waiting for my burrito. Dinner - I do love a good burrito. Today was not a day for that. I ordered the Cogna because of carne asada. It also had rice, beans, sour cream, and cheese. The meat was try and over cooked. The ingredients were not spread out, they were just plopped on the tortilla and rolled. I had a bite that was just sour cream. I like sour cream but not that much. Service - I get that this probably a very local place to eat. But they need a better way of communicating that your food is ready. They do not take your name or provide you with a number. Instead the cashier was yelling out the order. When mine was up I taught she was saying combo burrito. She was looking right at me the second time while walking to me. Go to any of the other two. Cashier ignores calls, is extremely rude, and will refuse orders. It's sad because I've gone here for years and she genuinely makes the place miserable. You can get the same food at the Jilberto's near Pauma Casino and in Valley Center AND be treated with respect. With limited options near our hotel, we found this as the closest option. It's in a discreet location with very limited signs but is located next to a liquor store. The store front is hard to distinguish but the service was great. The young gentleman at the register was incredibly helpful and friendly. This place is a hidden gem. The quality is great and the sizes are enormous. Ordered a carnitas burrito, veggie burrito and carne asada plate. Came out to 38 dollars a which is about right but wasn't prepared for the 5 pound forearm sized burritos and the carne asada plate overflowing with not only beans, rice and guacamole but a ton of meat. If you are looking for great food, large portions at an amazing price this is it. Extensive salsa bar as well. A must if you are ever at the Harrah's. Rolled tacos are good, but the guac is pretty sad. Had the nachos, but the asada was so salty (lots of it though). Tried 2 different breakfast burritos...the deluxe one had way too much ham (might just be my preference) and I had a bacon one and the cheese wasn't even melted. I came after the lunch rush. I ordered the Taco Salad with Carnitas. It took over 25 minutes to get my order. I went to the order counter to question what was taking so long and even before I could get my question out the cashier informed me that "they were working on the cold salad and it would be out soon". The place was empty so I think they forgot about my order. The Taco Salad was mostly beans and did not have very much lettece. The carnitas had a lot of fat. The dining room was clean. I was disappointed with this salad. I will try this Jilberto's again in the future in hopes of faster/nicer service so I can give more stars. (Maybe come during the meal rush hour) read more

If you're in the area, perhaps at the Harrahs casino, I recommend you avoid the overpriced Mexican food there and make the short drive to Jilbertos. If you are ever in the Rincone area near Harrahs Casino, be sure you come out to this place. Five minutes drive from Casino. Fresh made food and delicious something I was not expecting. I am careful sometimes when it comes to eating at places such as this but this place is completely awesome. The shredded beef burrito was huge and fingg delicious and tasty. At $4.99 no way you can beat the price. Dod I say huge monster home made tortilla that will knock your Teauila out of your head delicious pepper thin. Try casino food and pay triple this price but not near this authentic food they serve. We surely enjoyed every bite and we saved to tortilla (2) with each order for later on. The ladies working there are very friendly and helpful. Next door you will find a market that sell beer and everything else to take to your room. $4 coke at the Casino is a little too much. Greasy, gross, & under cooked!!! I'm so bummed because my family & I used to enjoy this location but truly disappointed at how much they have gone down hill. The greasy was everywhere, it was wrapped twice & still grease went through the bag. Against better judgment I bit into my sausage breakfast burrito. The fries were hard & still frozen on the inside, the eggs were slimy, the sausage tasted like they had been sitting out under a lamp (dry & burnt), & both a clear & yellow oil/grease is all over (the tortilla is transparent from all the grease). Great staff. Good recommendations for our first time. We wanted something different than what was at the casino hotel. Kids loved the juice mix and quesadillas! We ordered so much and regretted not having bigger bellies! Even though it was hot outside, we got soups too. All happy. Only one downside, bathroom was not easily accessible. Also the flies from outside followed the hardworking men coming in. Obviously the staff could not get them out but, they were always checking on us and cleaning the tables. read more
