We had ribs, pulled pork, brisket, fries, corn, brisket n Mac cheese balls, and muffins. Wish I would have taken pictures. I'm not sure if it was a manger or one of the owners, but such a nice man! Here on a business trip and I am not from the area. I like Texas BBQ and really enjoy KC BBQ. I've had numerous occasions to eat both in their home states. However, I found this place on Yelp close to my hotel and may have found my new favorite BBQ! I truly enjoyed the slow smoked meats and the zesty TN BBQ sauce. Meats were tender and juicy, not dry or overcooked at all. Sauce was fantastic and the sides were spot on. The complimentary biscuits were even better than I was hoping. Dining area was clean and service was fast and courteous. I don't know if all TN BBQ is this good but Jim 'N Nick's was spot on tonight! Came with a healthy appetite to meet friends and "break bread" together. Upon entering, one orders food at a cashier station, pays and receives an order number to place on a table, finds a table and ten fills one's drink from a soda/tea/water station. Within a few minutes, orders began arriving. Every order did arrive correctly - hot food hot and cold food cold. My soup (brisket chili) and salad (fresh, crisp) tasted quite good although the soup seemed a bit spicer than expected. I would recommend it though I've tasted similar bbq elsewhere. I had seen this place several times and noticed it always had a good crowd. I was in the area again and decided to give them a try. Both of us had a smoked turkey sandwich and a side. Wonderful flavor!! The turkey was moist and flavorful and the smoke was just enough to give it a boost and not so much as to overwhelm the bird. I had collards as a side and it was true southern tradition. I also used the Carolina mustard sauce and was very pleased with it as well. I have eaten here and take out. Take-out is very easy and the line moves almost as fast at Chick Fil A. Sweet tea is always good and fresh and BBQ Chicken was cooked perfect. I love the outside patio area when the weather is nice. TVs available and caught a Tennessee baseball game last week. Brisket and brisket chili is excellent. Warm corn muffins to the table as you wait on food. But food never takes much time here. The only reason I didn't do 5 starts is I am just not a big fan of their sauce. The original is OK. Just not the style I prefer. However, the meats are great. Some days I order takeout and take home and use my favorite BBQ sauces and get a 5 star meal at home. First time I went I ordered a barbecue chicken sandwich with white sauce (a nearby Alabama favorite). The chicken was slimy and seemed a bit undercooked, which made me feel uncomfortable about going back. However I went back and tried the spare ribs and was much more satisfied. In fact the rub and char was so good it didn't even need the barbecue sauce. The sides of Mac and cheese and fries were fine on both trips however the real star was the service. While Jim N Nicks is an order at the counter kind of place, we had at least 5 or 6 people come by our table asking if we needed anything. Oh and their cheese biscuits are pretty good too. The service along with the rub on the ribs saved me from not coming back, so Jim N Nick's is solid but not my favorite barbecue around. read more

It's a chain BBQ place, but I liked it - I really liked it. It's a 10/10 as far as Knoxville BBQ goes, 7/10 for BBQ overall - and it's a chain... I don't know how I feel about that. Place was packed, in line with a group of 8 people and a kind worker set aside a table for our group. Order at the front and get a number, food is brought to your table. Food came out in 10 minutes, every seat was full including the outside heated (warm) patio. Before the food comes out they bring out a tray of "cheese biscuits" they are more like muffins, slightly sweet with a sweet butter - they were alright. Mac & Cheese was solid, I'm not a Mac & cheese fan but this one was pretty good with a cheese crust. Collard greens on point, potato salad was meh - take it or leave it. The regular pulled pork was good juicy - not dry, as was the chicken. The marbled fatty brisket was moist, tender and what I was hoping to find. Delicious BBQ in Knoxville. Lots of choices. We love they don't have freezers and everything is fresh. The line was out the door but moved fast. We started with the Deviled Eggs - which were delicious. My son had the loaded Mac & Cheese. He loved it. It doesn't come with sides though. My husband had the 3 meat plate with: sausage, ribs and brisket. His sides were loaded baked potato and onion rings. He was stuffed. I had the 2 meat plate with pulled chicken & pork with coleslaw and Mac & cheese. All delicious. The banana pudding was like grandma used to make. The General Manger was checking on everyone. Ordering is easy. Order the counter and go and sit down with the number at your table they bring you your food. Selections are fabulous, pork, beef, and turkey and chicken various sides that are all delicious. One of the parties at our table and they only had enough ribs for the other person so we had to wait 25 minutes or more for rib ribs to come out out of the smoker. They finally just said give it to me to go. The turkey baked potato and coleslaw and sauce that came with the turkey was abundant and tastyM The atmosphere is very loud between all the people and the music. It's an uncomfortable loud. It may be because we went on a Saturday evening and Valentine's Day so I'm not sure how it is during the week or regular Saturday evenings. I also really enjoyed their BBQ sauces and the little muffins/biscuits that come with the entrees. They have great sides too. The collard greens were perfectly seasoned, not overcooked, and delicious. Same for the BBQ beans. Although they seem a little pricey compared to other fast-casual BBQ, I think their quality and atmosphere may justify the price. It is REALLY good BBQ. Highly recommended! read more

First impressions: you gotta love a BBQ joint that smells like a BBQ joint! Very clean and inviting. The moment we walked in we were greeted warmly and happily by Spencer. He talked us through the menu, as it was our first time, made a few recommendations and then since there wasn't a line behind us had a really nice chat with us. Servers came several times to our table, and each was friendly, helpful and attentive. BUT THE FOOD oh yes!!! Delicious. I got the smoked turkey with slaw and potato salad. Hubby got the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and fried. We shared the brisket mac & Cheese balls. THAT SMOKED TURKEY - friends, my eyes about rolled back in my head it was so good. Moist and just the perfect about of smoke so you tasted the smoke but still tasted the turkey. Portion size was great too. Plenty for leftovers the next day. Hubby loved his sandwich so much there were no leftovers!! Do yourself a favor and order those brisket mac & cheese balls too. The ribs are pretty good. Good flavor, good texture, can taste smoke but not sure if it's artificial electric smoker flavor? I'll have to ask next time. I get annoyed real easy. They sell the ribs by the pound instead of slab or half slab. They threw in a bone with no meat on it, I'm assuming to say it was a pound. They should have left that off the plate. A pound is 3 hefty pieces and a small bone apparently. The brisket was a miss for me. It was slightly dry, and had no flavor as you'd expect from good barbecue. Even buried in sauce not so good. The Mac & Cheese is a must get. It's not next level, but you can tell they are trying to put out a good product. You can taste good cheddar flavor and the noodle wasn't over done. You order at the register, they give you a number and you find an open table. The food comes out quick and they bring some small cupcake sized cheese corn bread. Probably one per meal, maybe? Those cheese cornbread were also excellent. They have granular style ice in the soda machine. If you prefer ice that way like I do, that's a bonus. Nice clean looking interior. Only flaw in their game is maybe they should be putting rolls of paper towel on every table like most other barbecue places do. I don't know if that's a cost savings thing or a decision they made to set themselves apart. They do give you a wet nap though. read more

My wife and I discovered this restaurant today while trying to find a BBQ restaurant to replace the FAMOUS one down the road. This is a very clean and well kept establishment. The prices are not too high for the amount of food and the quality of the service. The BBQ here is hands down the best in the area. My advice is to look at the menu online prior to arrival as you order at the counter when you first enter. I believe this will help you not feel rushed while making your selection. Walking in as soon as they opened, we thought we would have to wait to be seated but you place your order at the counter and find yourself a seat after grabbing your drink. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with two sides, slaw and fruit. Hubs ordered the same sandwich with Mac n' cheese and potato salad. We grabbed our drinks and sat down and was greeted by a very "happy to be here" waitress holding a small plate of four complimentary warm cheese muffins. They were ok, soft and sweet. The meals immediately came out. The bbq is VERY soft and tender that you can literally cut it with a fork, the sauce they put on it and at your table is also a sweet sauce that's really watery with a slight vinegar taste to it. The fruit was fresh strawberries, blueberries and grapes. The slaw!!! Ohhhh, the slaw. VERY good. Very fresh made. I liked it a lot. Not a mayonnaise based slaw. Very good taste. The Mac n' cheese was ok. Nothing special, average Mac n' cheese. Kinda dry, not milky at all. The potato salad was ok, again nothing special about it, a little bland. This establishment is pretty busy, the place is almost packed as I'm sitting here at 11:47 a.m. I saw some ribs that came out that looked fabulous. I've eaten at Jim 'N Nicks BBQ twice in the past. Both wonderful experiences but both takeout. Once in the Chattanooga location and a few months ago here at Knoxville. When I visited the Knoxville location for indoors dining this time, I soon realized it's not a traditional restaurant where you walk in, get a seat, look over the menu and wait to be served. Nope, they have a menu on the wall, and a menu near the register. You must order first, pay, then you are given a number to display at your table (and a glass to get your own beverage)(you are asked to tip at payment before service )). As a senior, in my opinion, you are being rushed to make your order decisions, you wonder what service will you get? Plus the potential patrons behind you waiting (seemingly impatient) doesn't help. At any rate, I learned ordering takeout earlier is better than dining in. As in my two previous takeout orders, I ordered the Half Slab Baby Back Ribs shortly after opening hour (11:00am). The indoor dining time for this review was 3:00pm and once received, the ribs were way overcooked (even a friend at the table commented my plate seemed dry when it arrived), not the juicy falling off the bone meat I remembered. No sauce in the house could save could save these ribs. Then I remembered the menu stating Half Rack Baby Back Ribs are available daily until they ran out. Which means, rib racks are ready at opening, but overcooked at 3:00pm. I invited four friends to this dinner, two were satisfied with their meal and two weren't. So, 50/50 lol. FINALLY... a restaurant that isn't disappointing in ANY way. Do you have any idea how hard that it today? From the service to the food, there is absolutely nothing that could be improved on at this place. I don't know how we've missed it this long, but if you ever see one in your city, try it out cause you wont be disappointed at all. The sauces are all excellent. We couldn't even begin to pick out a favorite if we had to cause they were all that good. The catfish was perfection, and I'm from New Orleans so trust me when i tell you, I will cut your badly cooked seafood down in a heartbeat if it doesn't excel, and this one was the best I've ever had in my life!!
