My fiance, mother and I recently had lunch here on a Monday afternoon. We found the restaurant through the yelp app, and, while we had an okay meal, it was not what i was expecting, based on the blurbs of reviews that were featured on the app. the soundbites made it sound like this is a standard bar and grill. however, it's really more a local hole in the wall. my fiance's meatball sub looked and tasted really good, and my mom's BLT was pretty standard fare, but my antipasto salad was a haphazard assembly of a few cheeses and cold cuts on a small amount of lettuce. our appetizer of wings was 7 (which is a weird number for anyone to split), and they were really small and kind of disappointing. i think if you're primarily looking for drinks, with food options once you've had a few, jimmy d's is a great option. if you're looking for a nicer meal, or a larger menu with variety, jimmy d's is not that place. read more

I don't know if it was the time I came or what but this place was nothing at all like what I saw on the Yelp page. All these 5 star reviews and variety of yummy looking dishes. I'll tell you what I experienced here. I came here one night to this tiny bar. My friend and I sat down, the waitress asked what we wanted to drink then handed us each a menu. I kid you not this dinky little menu had about 8 items on it. I saw wings, pizza, and a couple other items that nobody mentioned on the Yelp page. I was so confused and still am (I wish I would have taken a picture of it). I was excited to try this place with all the praise it got. I saw pictures of yummy looking food but got a menu that I at first thought was the specials list or something. I didn't want to leave a 1 star review seeing all the 5 star reviews but I just wanted to share what happened. My friend and I looked at the menu and left before we even got our drinks. If someone knows why this happened please let me know, maybe it was the time I went, perhaps I was given a late night menu? read more

After months of checking out a bunch of different restaurants- we're back at Jimmy Ds. Our dinner tonight was perfect and one of the main reasons - these are THE NICEST most kind and grateful people who make kick ass food and the perfect martini and take nothing for granted. Now we've tried every other mediocre place - we'll be coming here on a regular basis. Original post: This place is fantastic! We had the kids with us and walked in not knowing what to expect. They let us know it would be loud and "barish" but welcomed us with a smile. The bartender (doubling as a waitress) was SO FRIENDLY. And then the food - absolutely delicious! There is nothing better than a simple menu wherein every dish is perfection. The kids all got pizza and it was so yummy. I got the steak tips with mashed potatoes- the steak tips could not have been cooked better. Yum! My husband got the brisket - perfection. It was a bit loud for the kids but everyone was so warm and friendly they had a blast. We absolutely are making this our date night spot. EspeCan not say enough good things. read more

I came to this restaurant because of the yelp reviews and pictures of the food. OMG, the food is so delicious. I had the steak tip, with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe the cook called out from his shift? I can only think that must be the case because the rave reviews about the food here are so different than what we had - over done fries, a "panini" that was little more than a grilled cheese with a handful of pastrami thrown inside, watery Coke. It took an hour to get our food at 7 on a Friday with only 3 other orders. We watched the (hopefully) substitute cook make each meal individually (& i do mean individually), first my wife's then mine then another and so on, not together so they were timed to come out together. How did I not know about this place? It's a neighborhood joint. Most of the patrons were regulars at the bar, but we went for dinner. They have several tables for us sit-down types. The service was wonderful, welcoming and pleasant. They took good care of us. It was a small menu, but had everything you could want - from apps to hot dogs to prime rib (a special on Thursdays). Service was excellent- pleasant. attentive but not obtrusive, supercilious or over bearing. The burger was great- tasty, cooked as requested and nicely presented on a warm, toasted bun. I was there yesterday for st Patrick`s day. I had plans to stay very shortly and finish my night somewhere else but it didnt happen. This place was way better than i expected and i ended up staying, me and my wife. The atmosphere is awesome, there`s a jukebox, a pool table and 2 dart boards. It isnt a big place which i actually enjoy, its the right size. We had only drinks cause the kitchen had gone home before i got there but this place hits a 5 star even without it. The reviews are deceiving... We were looking to try a new place in our area and came across Jimmy D's on Yelp. We skimmed through a couple reviews and thought it sounded great. When we walked in, it was pretty apparent this place was much different than the impression yelp gave us. It is 100% a townie dive bar. Which is great if that's what you're looking for and/or expecting. We were stared at pretty hard initially by what I assume are the regulars. The bartender/waitress was very nice and took our order pretty quickly. But that was the only thing done with any speed. Jimmy came out of the kitchen and sat at a table for a cocktail or two just after we put in our order. How'd we know it was Jimmy? About 10 minutes after he sat down the bartender said "hey Jimmy, you have a couple orders waiting." He flipped her the bird when she turned around and continued his drink for a few more minutes. When he finally did go to the kitchen we thought it wouldn't be much longer considering we only ordered a couple pizzas. We. Were. Wrong. Someone else wrote that he makes one dish at a time. They weren't kidding. We had been sitting there for about 30 minutes in total before I saw him stretching pizza dough. (You can see the whole kitchen from the dining area) about another 10 minutes went by before I saw him making the second pizza. It was about an hour total before our food hit the table. Which was especially crazy because there were only two food orders that we could tell. We got Two pizzas. One pepperoni and one cheeseburger. The ONLY reason this isn't a 1 star review is because the cheeseburger pizza was very good -- even considering it didn't actually have cheese on it. The pepperoni pizza was nothing special, but what pepperoni pizza is? If your intent is to drink and food is secondary, maybe this is your place. I wouldn't call it family friendly. If your goal is to get some food and be on your way; I'd take a D-tour somewhere else. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch and pool on Tuesday! I ordered a grilled cheese (which arrived a little burnt, but I didn't mind) and my boyfriend ordered the meatball sandwich, which he loved! We also met the owner, Jim, who was so friendly and welcoming! We asked for a side of ranch, and noticed a few minutes later that he had actually run out the door and across the street to buy a new bottle of ranch! This place is a hidden Gem. We were driving up from the cape and stumbled on an oasis. Down to earth bar with a renovated dining area with high tops and a pool table. Wait staff, particularly Lisa, was fantastic. We ordered three rounds of drinks (great pours), the angus burger and the sirloin special. Literally consumed every bite. Stopped by Jimmy D's due to the good Yelp reviews. Small place and everyone was very friendly. It was neat seeing the majority of the kitchen right behind the bar. Got a cup of chicken soup which was good and seemed homemade. Also got the wings as i was told the buffalo sauce was home made. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was good, but there was some kind of seafood flavor or smell that threw me off, but it may be just me as I despise seafood. My brothers and I are from New Jersey. We were in the area for a wedding and wanted to grab a drink in between the ceremony and cocktail hour. The bartender and cook were SO NICE and friendly! Prices were great and the food was amazing. The cook made us something not even on the menu on the house (buffalo chicken egg rolls-- original and delicious)! Hole in wall bar and grill, smaller than expected. This restaurant caters more as a regular friendly place than to out of town customers. Getting drinks was slow, and the waitress/bartender only checked on us once every 15mins so it took awhile to even get food put in. 2 guys next to us ordered, waitress came back 10mins later saying they were out of one of the entrees and left to give them another minute to decide, but came back another 10minutes later when they decided to just pay for their drinks and leave. Food wasn't bad, typical bar food and that wasn't the problem. It just came off as a regular friendly bar and any new faces got subpar attention and service. read more

Brrrrrrr! It's freaking cold out! We just had a bombcyclonfuggetaboutit and everything is FROZEN AND STUFFFFFFFFFFFF. There we were minding our own business just trying to keep FREAKING #warm. I looked up food on mapquest and apparently they have it in franklin, mass. Just one place - Jimmy D's. We were a little underdressed but said screw it, we love Jimmy Johns. Parking was nightmarish and we both thought it strange this Jimmy Johns didn't have valet. So we walked in right. It's a Jimmy D's NOT Jimmy Johns. Chef greeted and said, "hey, got something not on the menu if you catch my drift ;)" We caught it. We were picking up what she was putting down. We smelled what she was stepping in. This place is a small local dive bar period. I was staying at a nearby hotel for a kids soccer tournament and checked yelp for nearby places to eat. They had great reviews so I took 3 boys there - my mistake. Food was average, pricey, TVs sucked, wobbly table, and 4 guys shooting pool dropping the f-bomb every other word didn't help. Against my better judgement, I gave the food a chance because of reviews - no good. If you're looking to hang out at a small town dive bar then go. Do not bring your kids there. Went in for dinner as a first timer. On a Saturday night they were busy but that didn't affect te customer service. I was a little disappointed how small the menu was. My BF who has a Dairy allergy, and Gluten intolerance could only order one thing on the menu.. which was the Pork Chop Special. With that being said the pork chop was delicious. I got a pizza and ate the whole thing! Quality of food was fresh and delicious. Owner and wait staff was hands on and very friendly.Its a small dive which I love. Drinks were good. We will def be back.. May even become a regular watering hole for us. My only recommendation would be them adding a .solid chicken or steak dish to their reg menu. read more

We've been to Jimmy D's a few times over this past month and have consistently been served a great meal. Having sampled sandwiches, amazing buffalo wings, and steak, of which all were beyond my expectations. Last nite a friend recommended we stop in for pizza (she had been in the week before with her husband) and I have to say it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had! It's so great to watch the dynamics of everyone that works hard there, from the owner and his wife Kate, to the friendly bartenders and chef. They all make you feel at home and welcome as soon as you walk in the door, making it a relaxing, enjoyable, escape from the daily responsibilities.
