HERNDON, VA 11/11/19 LUNCH +Loyalty rewards program. +Freaky fast customer service. +The Gargantuan is my go-to sub...on French bread ("white"). -The closest location to my office is a 15-minute drive. -The franchisees aren't expanding quick enough. We need more stores! Lol.

I placed a Mobile order for one of their new sandwiches. What I got was Awful and looked nothing like it!!

Jimmy John's in Herndon is amazing!

I come to this Jimmy John's about once every two weeks but go to Jimmy John's once a week between here and South riding. The subs here taste better because the breaded baked perfectly. Some of the other Jimmy's well over cook their bread or cook the moisture right out of it. Mr. William, who works the counter and makes the sandwiches, is absolutely fantastic. Watching him work with his coworkers shows me how much they care about hiring great people. With great people comes great service and great sandwiches.

**** 3 1/2 Stars **** ------------------- We figured that we were overdue for a visit to Jimmy John's. I was curious to see how they stacked up against Jersey Mike's. The visit was worth it as we concluded that Jimmy John's was better than Subway but not quite as good as Jersey Mike's. When we arrived at around 6 p.m. on a Friday night, there was no line. The guy behind the register was very friendly. We both decided to go for the #5 Vito. This sandwich consists of "genoa salami, provolone, capicola, onion, lettuce, tomato and a real tasty Italian vinaigrette" (the description is straight from their menu.). We both asked them to hold the onion and we were happily obliged. One big difference between Jimmy John's and Jersey Mike's --- the cold cuts at Jimmy John's are pre-sliced while Jersey Mike's slices them fresh with each order. Other differences---the rolls used at Jimmy John's are thinner (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Jersey Mike's "Mike's Way" is way better than Jimmy John's "real tasty Italian vinaigrette". Jersey Mike's is far more flavorful. However, I'll give Jimmy John's one thing---they aren't too heavy-handed with the vinaigrette which is sometimes a problem at Jersey Mike's. Jersey Mike's has some hot subs on the menu---not so for Jimmy John's. One thing at Jimmy John's that gave us a bit of a laugh---for their tuna subs, part of the description says "fresh housemade tuna". Yet up on a shelf in plain sight are institutional sizes of Chicken of the Sea tuna. Hmmm...a bit misleading...! Jersey Mike's "Original Italian" has a larger variety of meats in it. Theirs has provolone, ham, proscuittini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni. We have to say that Jersey Mike's wins the "throwdown" of the Italian subs in terms of overall flavor and variety. As for price ---Jersey Mike's is a bit more expensive. However, we go there when the "Clipper" has coupons. We've yet to see any for Jimmy John's As for atmosphere---Jimmy John's is a much smaller shop with far less seating. Also, while Jersey Mike's has 2 TVs running with soft sound, Jimmy John's blasts 80s headbanger music. At least we were lucky that they played 3 songs that we liked when were there. In between each songs there is very brief silence. So---it's like this --- Between bites of the sandwich, sing along with AC/DC "You shook me all night long" --- Quck, talk! --- Then sing along with Warrant "Where the down boys go" --- talk some more! --- Now sing along with Bon Jovi "Shot through the heart and you're too blame. You give love a bad name" So---For us anyway, Jersey Mike's comes out on top. Yet we don't have any problem giving Jimmy John's another shot and try a different sandwich. In fact, I'll take the "#5 Vito" any day over Subway's "BMT".

And I do love the reimagining to a flat shape but these pancitos are VERY greasy and very seasoned when they shouldn't be. It left me feeling sick. -The lox is not great quality. It's that simple. If you know, you know. - The veggie cream cheese was fair. Not flavorful enough but at least it wasn't sweet, which is the common misstep I find outside of NY. - Bagels are meh. Not fab but not bad for outside NY. - The pickle! One of the worst offenders. It's called a full sour on the menu. It's not. It's a dill pickle. Sacrilege outside of the 5 boros. There was one bright shining star though. The latkes! I've never had a latke (potato pancake) that wasn't as heavy as a brick and soaked in grease. That's just how they are. Sometimes they are way too seasoned, too. But these majestic bites of heaven are light as a feather, not soaked in grease and not overly seasoned. And they are GF. Pair with sour cream and that heavenly apple jam. Yowza. I will come back for this, but nothing else. (Wished they bring this fínese to the pan de queso.) -

We chose to do the pistachella and the bounty.  They both featured Nutella and if that wasn't enough, one added crushed pistachios and the other coconut flakes.  They were very tasty but very rich and between the two of us, we had to admit defeat before finishing them both.  Happily, there are to go boxes to bring home any remainders.  The space is very clean and there are tables and lots of napkins (which you will need because these treats are both awesome and very messy).  The staff was very friendly and the parking is easy in the lot out front.  We will have to come back again to try some of the savory options to definitely be followed up by another dessert one. Drive around if you need to, and you'll eventually find the sign. Should you go through all that trouble to find the place? Umm, yes, because the sub I had here was really tasty and gave me a homey feel. It's family-run, and the staff was very friendly. If you are out of ideas for lunch and nearby, consider trying the subs at this place. You won't regret it. The thick double plastic bags are overkill, though. I wish they would use paper wraps and paper bags instead. Something to improve upon.

We both ended up liking this sub so much that we've now had it two more times. This sub consists of: "capicola, mortadella, pepperoni, Genoa salami, lettuce, tomato and provolone cheese." We got them with oil and vinegar and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. The second time we ordered 2 subs using Doordash. These subs came with the default toppings which are mayonnaise, onions and hot peppers. We both agreed that we prefer them with just the oil and vinegar plus salt and pepper. These subs are the best we've had. The bread is soft and fresh plus the family who owns the place knows how to assemble a sub so that everything is packed in well, thus making it easier to eat. All the ingredients are fresh and flavorful. The family who runs it is very friendly. We were pleasantly surprised when we went there recently, since we were in the area, and decided to buy 2 subs to go, that the lady who waited on us when we first went there, remembered us! The one drawback---They are located in an office park. Thus their business hours correspond to regular work hours. On Thursday and Friday, they do stay open until 6 p.m. They are closed on the weekends. So...basically, it's a hidden gem. If you like subs, it's worth a visit or an order on Doordash. And, yes, we will be back!
