This is largely high praise for the manager, Fernando. I had ordered one of their favorite subs online (the Bootlegger), or so I thought! Upon arrival there was one bag ready to go with receipt stapled to the outside. I just saw the total price in the largest print and it was exactly right. Someone asked my name, I called it out, and they rang up the bag. I decided to just sit down for 5 minutes and enjoy the sandwich fresh since I had requested that it be toasted (they will now toast any sandwich - a game changer!) But the sandwich I opened was cold. I went back and said, hey, I'm super easy going, I was just wondering if you guys could still toast this? Fernando came over and was super apologetic. He then asked to see the receipt to troubleshoot the oversight and, lo and behold, different name, not the bootlegger, and not toasted. Wrong Bag! He promptly had my sandwich made (which apparently never came through on the app). At the same time the person whose bag I had paid for called in and said he had ordered his sub to the wrong location! Fernando was terrific about fixing everything. And, yes, the bootlegger toasted (with added crispy onions and cucumbers and no mayo) was ready lightening fast and terrific. Sitting here deciding where to have lunch and I would love to eat at Jimmy John's, but I can't stomach it and I want to say it out loud so maybe somebody will read this: When the sandwich makers, Dig their gloved fingers into the roll and scrape the middle out, it makes me want to gag. I know those fingers have been in a lot of places in the restaurant doing who knows what and they don't change their gloves before they dig them into the bread that I am about to bite into. It's not clean. You need to use a metal spoon or some kind of tool to do that and it needs to be clean. This is what keeps me from going back and eating at any Jimmy John's. I hadn't been to a Jimmy Johns in years, time for lunch. This location has wonderful A/C, a big deal in Tucson in the summertime. The store is very clean, noticeable when you walk in the door. I find the menu confusing, but maybe it's just because I haven't been in a while. The order taker was very polite and asked all the right questions except what free fixings I wanted, so I ended up with tuna salad and lettuce. Tasty but a little dry. I prefer the tuna and the bread to Subway. The 9 grain roll actually has real whole grains in the crust. Pretty dang good bread for a chain. The self serve fountain drinks could use a few more selections, but they had all the basics. My sandwich was ready in about two minutes, can't complain about that! The booths were reasonably comfortable and I didn't feel rushed to leave, in fact I typed up this review on my phone on-premises. I'll be back. Jimmy John's sandwiches are always very, very good and pretty close to delicious. But this particular review isn't about the food necessarily, because I've never eaten at this location. I've purchased food from here, though, for the homeless individuals who are frequently on the corner a few feet away. They're always there when we're leaving 47 Scott, and if someone asks me for food instead of money, I'm happy to oblige. This Jimmy John's is in a great location for that. The service is fast and friendly. The "free smells" that Jimmy John's advertises don't disappoint in this location, either. They're mouthwatering even though I just finished eating dinner not ten minutes ago. One day we'll actually eat here, but I suspect it's not different from any other location in town. My husband does work downtown, and he says their deliveries are super fast and efficient, and they do a great job with bigger catered events. All in all, this is a great Jimmy John's, and it serves many downtown yummy sandwich needs! read more

Jimmy John's: ground level, just above the Subway... If one had to view the corporate, fast-food sandwich joints in terms of quality and placed them accordingly to geographic terms, Subway would appropriately be placed below ground. Sub-par is Subway. Extending this line of logic, one would then place Jimmy John's right on ground level: not disgusting enough to have to bury the food but not good enough to exalt it in the heavens. As the 85701 zip code suggests, this location is right smack in the middle of downtown Tucson. Ironically, it's steps away from a Subway location. I wonder if the staffs of these two establishments ever have gang wars on the streets of Congress. That would be cool to watch as I'm eating an average sandwich that I could probably have made at home. So let's get to the food. I cannot really say more than that it was okay. On my first and only visit thus far, I opted for the "Big John," a simple roast beef with mayo, lettuce and tomatoes. The quality of the meat, the most important ingredient in sandwiches next to bread, can best be described as better than Subway's. The rest of the ingredients seemed fresh and of decent quality as well. As there was nothing else in it, all of this put together cumulatively made for an average sandwich. Like many places downtown, there is not much seating on premise. In fact, at around the noon hour on a weekday, not one table was available. So actually, I sadly wouldn't have witnessed any kind of Subway vs. Jimmy John's gang war unfold on Congress. Thankfully, the service was lightening quick, as I barely filled up my cup with Coke when my order was called. So off I went to eat a picnic lunch at the nearby park with the Pancho Villa statue. Yep, I actually sat at a table just underneath his shadow, close enough to have thrown my roast beef sandwich at him. Okay, going back to the actual review. I consider myself a fairly big sandwich/deli fan. Seeing that I'll be stuck in the downtown area for the foreseeable future, I will most likely, and willingly, make a return visit to Jimmy John's. Needless to say, I probably will not order the roast beef again. The last time I went, I was actually eying their version of the Italian sub. Boy, how do I wish I could write a review of a sandwich shop in the downtown area that would place it high above both Hell's neighbor (Subway) and its earthly cousin. They're SO good. I have my lunch delivered to my office downtown at least once a week, and they're consistently fast, accurate, and delicious. The one time they've made a mistake on my order, they went out of their way to correct it and make sure I remained a very happy customer. Really a top drawer sandwich spot downtown. read more

I normally don't post reviews, but this place is the greatest. It's currently storming pretty badly, but I called when the rain let up and asked if they would deliver. Not a problem! He ran over in the rain, found me in my office on my office floor since the receptionist left and wasn't there to direct him to me, and then he apologized that the bag was a tiny bit wet. Way above and beyond. Not to mention the amazingly fast timing. I walk there sometimes and they're so friendly. Everyone greets you when you walk in and everyone wishes you a great day when you leave. The sandwiches are usually done by the time I've finished paying for it, and always delicious. Loved the place at first, but here lately they provide one thin layer of salami (whatever) on that bread. I found it to be mostly bread the last time I went. Tomatoes were few and far between. Disappointment. Peppers are always extra. Jalapenos anyone? That'll be 50 cents extra. One time I said extra extra (twice) and they charged 50 cents TWICE!! EXTRA-EXTRA means EXACTLY that - twice twice! Aw, geez. Are jalapenos weird on sandwiches? I kinda like it. But please, don't skimp! Why change a good thing? read more
