We ordered takeout tonight to try and support our local restaurants and I cannot say that I have ever been more disappointed. We ordered one of their takeout dinners and the salad came with o bowl of lettuce and two quarter pieces of a tomato. The attached picture of the slab of ribs that came with our order. Pictured is how the ribs came when we opened the box. We could not eat this, not knowing what happened or how this was prepared. It looks like someone's scraps that was presented as my families dinner. We have been regulars at Jimmy's for years, I do not think we will return when normal starts up again. read more

Service here was great, have to stress that first off because everyone was so friendly and attentive especially our waitress. Drinks were also great and the ambience is so relaxing and inviting. As far as food, I love what I had. First off the bread was delicious. Butter was soft enough to spread, not frozen like some other places and the salad was good too. I love a specific kind of ranch dressing and they have the kind I love. Would come back just for that ranch dressing. I had the pasta with veggies and shrimp and it was great! The shrimp was delicious and just the right amount of spices were used. Loved the veggies and the portion was huge! Brought lots of it home. Only thing that kept me from giving five stars is the fact my husband wasn't too impressed with the filet he had and my daughter didn't want to want to eat her pork chops. Thought I would give it a try. Didn't know what a charhouse was. Ordered a wedge salad which was crisp and fresh and had but 3 bacon bits. Ordered a well drink, vodka and tonic and the tonic was flat. Second one was a bit better . Charhouse chicken sandwich was amazing!!! For dessert I had the Homemade Tiramisu. Gotta compare it to my truly homemade Tiramisu. Ok, the Tiramisu was... good. Good flavor but very heavy. So the sandwich and dessert saved the review. Let me start out by saying that I started going to Jimmys restaurants in 1993, with the original in deerfield. Since I live off Randall road I have been going to the Elgin restaurant since it opened and tonight was the last time I will ever go here. Unlike other "franchises" that jimmy has (by franchise I mean where jimmy is a partner but there is a "managing" partner) this one has gone to shit. The menus that used to be 4 pages long is now down to 2. The size of the portions is 1/2 of what you get at the Elk Grove location. The quality of the food.... the quality is GARBAGE. When told that the filet had no taste I was informed that they no longer season their steaks. When I asked how a lobster tail that is $44 has only 1 ounce of meat... I was told it is what it is. When I asked why my scotch was water down I was told I was wrong. When I asked why we didn't receive bread and butter I was told they only do that when you ask ( by the way... I asked twice). When I asked why is was so humid in the restaurant, an easy fix by turning on the air conditioning, I was told that it was late at night ( we got there at 8:30pm). The salads were good... hard to fuck up peppercorn ranch dressing. The calamari was perfect. The steak kabobs tasted like they were raw and from last week. Just a few years ago at 830 - 9pm on a Monday this place would be packed. The bar would be over flowing. Tonight... maybe 30 people in the dining rooms (that sit 250) and maybe 10 people in the bar. My bill was $145 (plus a $50 tip for a waiter that did great). So $195. We had 2 drinks. Not 2 each... just 2 drinks. The rest was the "food" and 2 appetizers. Pinching pennies on a high end restaurant is one thing jimmy... but your partner George is to cheap to have as a partner. If this place is still here a year from now I will be amazed because I for one will never go back. On Thursday, December 2, 2021 we had a private group of 40 for lunch.The London Broil (not flank steak--was beef tenderloin) served with mashed potatoes (no gravy)*; sliced carrot, mushrooms, and broccoli was very good. The lettuce salad with gravy boats of creamy ranch style or balsamic vinaigrette was huge and very good! For dessert, a dip of vanilla ice cream with chocolate drizzle. Christina, the manager, said that is the policy at Jimmy's Char House, and the owner sets the policy. The bartender said all the upscale steak houses do that. We live right down the street but have not visited Jimmy's Charhouse in years because i was hesitant with a fairly negative rating. However we've visited three times this year, once dine-in (outside) and two other carry outs and we love it! Our steaks were wonderful. Our friends from Estonia who make the annual trek to Chicagoland for the Global Leadership Summit asked if we could meet this time at a restaurant that serves steaks! Being that most of them are staying in the West Dundee and Elgin area, we consulted Yelp and chose Jimmy's. The reviews were mediocre but our experience was anything but! Not only is the building and interior top rate, but the service was truly outstanding! Our server told me about the special of free saganaki appetizer when you download the Jimmy's Charhouse mobile app, which we all appreciated. One couple split a full ribs rack dinner special and our server delivered them like two separate orders! Everything was delicious and filling. I recommend the flan dessert which is better than you can get at a Mexican restaurant! This place truly deserves 5 stars and we were proud that our foreign guests enjoyed it so much! read more

We sat in a cozy round booth, looking out at a high-ceiling dining room with wood trim, antique-looking lights and memorabilia lining wood shelves. It was Tuesday, so wine bottles were half-price. Since I was staying in town on business, and I was allowed to take with me, this was a double plus. I chose the appetizer Shrimp De Jonghe with a salad, and hubby went with the Chicken Alfredo. Both were very yummy. I would have loved to try a steak, but they didn't have a top sirloin. Odd as I am, I prefer a cheaper cut of steak. Have been a long time customer, have had two baby showers there, a wedding shower, 4 company luncheons, and a communion party, and a confirmation party. After today I will not be back. The little older lady at the hostess stand was the biggest sarcastic jerk to me over me asking if they could substitute something on their menu. The bbq says choice of potato so I asked for baked potato. She said they don't have those until 4pm. I say okay then can you just give me the side salad that comes with it (I was already getting the soup). She said no substitutes. I said to her what is the difference if you substitute a wedge of salad for undercooked veggies or bland rice? She goes no substitute. I say your menu says "choice of potato"....she replies very snotty "yeah that's OUR choice of potato not yours". I wasn't asking for a whole chicken for half the cost I was asking her to swap out a undercooked veggies for lettuce. So I got up and left my family there to eat their over priced lunch. I will never spend a dime there again. She clearly isn't the manager. A manager would have understood when I said I have dietary restrictions. Need to eat food that I'm fairly certain doesn't have anything added to it like a baked potato! I have never had a more annoying experience than this lady when asking a restaurant to help with a dietary need. Very unprofessional, and not to mention I won't go there, won't recommend it, and certainly won't book any parties there. Jimmy's isn't what it was years ago. Well I have seen the char house for many years tucked away. As a chef I like to try new places and various types of food. So i invited this young lady out on a first date, which started out very well. We were seated right away, Our waitress took our order. We started with the fried calamari, which was quite bland and under cooked. No biggie it's a steak house not seafood. As we waiting our young waitress was I think trying to be funny but it came out very condescending and quite rude to my new lady friend, again she was young and I do not believe she knew she was being offensive so no big deal. Well the soup came, and you knew it came from a can, which is fine all chefs know how to doctor it up to make it a bit richer tasting, but who in their right mind chunks up green pepper and puts in clam chowder? So i order the porterhouse rare which was cooked to perfection, but had absolutely no flavor, ( a little salt and pepper) go a long way, soI had the loaded mashed potato as a side, i expect way more than instant potato at a fine dining steakhouse, also the last time i made loaded potato it had more than over cooked bacon and cheese...try some chives and sour cream on top. Well the veggies were good perfect except the fact you could tell they were not thoroughly washed. We stopped in for dinner a few weeks back when we were visiting our grandkids. My son-in-law suggested it based on location. We were seated quickly on a Friday evening. The menu was pretty generic with nothing special. I had had something to eat earlier so I ordered a Greek salad, my wife another salad. My son-in-law a burger and his wife the chicken. Service was none too quick and we waited even though it was very busy. We all ordered and began to converse. It seemed forever when we finally got our entrees. My Greek salad was real so so. So was my wife's salad. My sone-in-law liked his food but his wife was less impressed. It took way to long to get our check or tables cleaned. Everyone except my son-in-law thought it was just so so. While walking out I noticed the vast preponderance of the patrons were in their 70s to 80s. Which in my experience means so so food and a bland menu. My husband and I went to Jimmy's tonight not sure what to expect as it's been many years since our last visit. It was PACKED! Not unexpected for 6:45 on a Saturday night I'm sure. The parking lot was very full. But with some maneuvering and skill we found a spot not far from the entrance, SCORE for us because it was freezing cold! We entered and were greeted immediately and were told it would be a few minutes, and surprisingly it was exactly that. We were seated before 7pm. Menus and waters were provided promptly and we were informed our server would be with us shortly. For as crowded as it was and not having a reservation we were impressed with the quality of service thus far. The menu was easy to read having choices for everyone, concise and with enough variety. The drink menu that was on the table wasn't needed as I knew what I wanted, but my husband noticed a card on the table advertising something he'd like and he was excited to try it. Our server Mia arrived with bread and asked if we had questions and if she could take our drink order. I just have to say Mia was an amazing server! She was attentive and accurate. We had dietary restrictions that even went over into our drink orders and she made sure everything was perfect. She checked with the chef the bartender and anyone who was nessesary to make sure that our order was perfect. We mentioned it once and she made it perfect. She was so busy, yet it did not phase her. Her attitude was great! I really had a fantastic time tonight. Jimmy's Charhouse isn't our go to place regularly for steak and drinks. Mia made our night. I took note of a few of the reviews before writing this so I feel justified in my 2 stars. This was the spot to have dinner with friends. I chose the wood roasted 1/2 chicken and mashed potatoes. I am accustomed to paying more for all white meat -$4.00. Okay, a tad steep but not a deal breaker. Upgrade to baked french onion soup $3.00, that provoked grumbling but ordered it. Well, I got a bowl of microwaved cheese - no crispy cheese just barely melted cheese. And the taste was non-existent. My chicken arrived and I got 2 HALF breasts. Yep, they cut off the bottom of each breast. Had I not been up charged, I never would have said anything BUT I had to call BS. then, the potatoes were just a glob -no gravy, nothing. I chose to leave the table and go straight to the front desk to mention my unhappiness about the up charge and what I really got ok the plate. But with all of that aside.before we left my girlfriend had to use the washroom and found one of the stall doors broken with no tp and the other smeared with fecal meter when we informed the manager he could have cared less. We had our family Christmas party catered from Jimmy's this year and it was the best decision ever! It was ready on time, hot and delicious!! One reason I don't always give a restaurant 5 stars is sometimes they lack consistency. I just kicked up my review to 5 stars. This place is not only consistent, but has increased their game even more. My birthday girl wife ordered surf and turf, I went to the standby favorite porterhouse. Starting with the calimari. I must say the calamari with its light crunchy batter might have been the best we've ever had. Everything else was also top notch. Living 20 miles away for us is a long drive, but worth every mile. My family of 5 just ate here for Christmas Eve dinner. They took us right away for our 5pm reservation. We were prepared for it to be crowded etc given it is a holiday, but tonight was absolutely awful. They had way too many people sitting in the "banquet" room, you could barely walk in between tables, let alone walk without bumping into the person next to you. We had to ask for our table to be cleared off, our appetizer was incorrect, and when we finally ordered our dinner, it took over an hour and a half for it to come to our table. Tables of 8+ who ordered after us, received their food before us. Once we finally received it, our steaks and vegetables were cold to the touch. The bathrooms were another story. This place isn't friendly to people of color. I'm a black young man 22 and my friend 22 Mixed so he has lighter skin. We order steaks my waiteress served him mainly paying him attention unless she really had to ask me a question and kept things short. Then she brought mine not sizzling and I seen the differences in the care so I asked for it to be warmed which made it tuff which she was happy to do which made my visit here HORRIBLE. So I gave this place a try as I was staying at the hotel next door. I thought I was just going to have a drink and leave but I actually had a good time at the bar. The staff talked to me and they were fun to watch behind the bar. I ended up talking to a few of the locals to make the time pass. In the end I would come back here next time I'm out here for work. A group of 5 came here for dinner. We were seated promptly, as the place was nearly empty at 6pm on a week night. We sat down and after over 5 minutes we had to ask for water because our server had not come to our table and no one had brought us water. It's not like it was busy. Also there was a lot of staff just standing around. We ordered our food. My husband ordered salmon and he liked it but nothing amazing. Others thought their food was ok. I liked my salad the southwest salad. There was plenty of tender chicken. Many say Jimmy's isn't what is was. What I can say is that we had a lovey dinner. Sure the bread isn't the best. But the saganaki was delicious and always a fun way to begin. Maybe a bit more pita with it would have been nice, but still solid. Then soup or salad with you entree. So many specials. I had the chicken and pork chop combo and the pork chop was truly amazing. Overpriced is an understatement. Unfriendly, not polite, and felt like we were a burden as soon as we walked through the door. The waiter was very pushy and not concerned with our order, just wanted us to eat, leave and collect the tip. Ordered a 16oz New York strip medium rare, came out well done, told the waiter that this isn't how I ordered my meal, I was told that I don't know how steaks are prepared and that mine was on the rare side despite being burned black and gray completely through. I guess I've been eating steaks the way I don't like them my whole life according to this guy. Also, we ordered French Onion soup, I decided to get mine plain. My girlfriend got the "special" cup of French Onion soup which was $4 more and the only difference was a slice of processed cheese. Why? Why oh why aren't you as good as you used to be, Jimmy's Charhouse? Such a disappointment. We have been coming to Jimmy's for quite a few years. Mom lives a few miles west. Dad lives a few miles north. It seems to be a popular destination for family dinner. We even threw my mom's surprise 50th birthday party here in their banquet room a couple years ago. Mom had a gift certificate. It was grandma's birthday and she wanted to go to Jimmy's for lunch. So, four of us headed out for a rare mid-week lunch. We arrived after 1pm, so the restaurant wasn't too crowded. We ordered some crab cakes to start. Four greasy, very fishy smelling, very flat cakes arrived. Grandma had one bite and declared that she couldn't eat them. My mom won't waste food, so she ate hers. My son is my 15 year old eating machine, so he ate his and then complained about the smell. I nibbled and debated sending them back, but the waiter didn't return until the entrees arrived, so I kept my mouth shut. So there is no confusion, I won't order those again. There is always warm Italian bread (and plenty of butter) on the table. It's crusty and delicious. Come for the free bread. Stay for...the free bread. Grandma has been eating like a bird lately, so she chose baked French onion soup as her meal. The cheese was loaded on there, but it was not baked nicely. She pulled the whole blob off, put it on her plate and worked on the soup. Which was cold. :-( Now, to put this in perspective...grandma does NOT complain. She'll eat expired yogurt. She freezes meat and yells at us if we throw it away it it's been around for a couple years. The crab cake and the soup really must not have been any good. Or she absolutely would have eaten both. My son ordered an Italian chicken sandwich. He ate half and most of his French fries. He thought the sandwich was bland...so says the eating machine. Mom and I ordered the same burger. Hers with cheese and mine without. I opted for mashed potatoes. Mom went for rice pilaf. My burger was ordered as medium. It arrived completely well done. No waiter = no complaining from me. I literally would have needed to get up and wander around to find someone to complain to. Mom's burger was cooked medium rare as requested. My mashed potatoes were plentiful, but I only nibbled seeing as I had a hankering for a juicy burger. Carry out containers arrived to bring home food to some of the family dogs (not mine, but mom and grandma's). The check didn't take long and I was grateful because I was ready to leave. Side story? I was greeted at the hostess stand by a manager who informed me I could find my party in the fourth booth on the right and pointed down a row of booths. Sorry, didn't mean to bother you into showing me to my table. I actually laughed because I didn't know how to react to his lackluster greeting and not wanting to show me to the table. I would normally shrug this off, but this is suppose to be an upscale place and his demeanor was less than welcoming. The food, I started with the french onion soup, it was very good, could have been a little hotter it was served lukewarm. I ordered the london broil, it was served as requested. The portion was very small and the meat was not very tender. The server was very pleasant and made up for the manager's lack of service. I was so excited to find this location after the one in Naperville closed about 4 years ago. I remember eating amazing food for a decent price and returning many times. I guess these locations are not related in any way. My husband and I went here for a Sunday lunch date around 2pm. It was dead besides a party going on in a separate room that did not disturb our dining experience. On the plus side, the service was very fast. We ordered right away, our drinks stayed full, and our calamari came at lightning speed. The calamari was really good. I also asked for some marinara sauce to dip it in, very good as well. The salad didn't seem fresh, and I had to pick out a brown rimmed leaf. I only ate about 10% of it and could not finish after seeing that. My husband ordered a porterhouse medium rare al forno w/ fries. He liked it fine. I ordered the steak and lobster w/ mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were not even warm and neigther of us touched them after the first bite. The lobster tail was rubbery(I had to cut it w/ a steak knife). And my steak tasted very off. Okay, I get that this place is a steak house. Meat is what they do. I do not eat meat, but the majority of my friends and family do, so I have ended up here a handful of times. They enjoy the food and keep going back, so perhaps my review is way off.. but this is what I thought of it: The space itself is nice. Its relatively dark, spacious and the room flows well. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The service has been efficient and friendly enough. Everything else is good.. and then there's the food. Pasta with marinara sauce? Nope. Their marinara has chicken flavoring in it. Fettuccine alfredo? Not so much. It too is flavored with chicken broth. So what else is there? Some iceberg lettuce with a shred of carrot and cherry tomato? Oh boy. Three pounds of linguine drenched in olive oil and garlic with a few steamed veggies thrown in? Eh, sure. I can and do make it at home, but I guess its cool to drop $15 on it at a restaurant too. EDIT: Their website is out of date; the only vegetarian pasta dish they used to have is no longer on the menu. When I asked for it this weekend, the waitress instead suggested the one with grilled chicken.. yeah, thanks. We were here on a busy Saturday night. Service in the bar was good, but out in the dining area? That kinda defeats the purpose. Also, they pack 'em in like sardines here. Clearly this place is all about quantity over quality. read more

The interior was really great. Went here with a group for a private party. Wait staff were nice and prompt. It was odd that they served seafood soup to everyone - less than 50% of the people cared for it. They should have included a more commonly liked selection. My meal was good. Minus two stars for: 1) the soup 2) the host seemed upset by conversations with the staff and staff were not private about it to make me not notice (hello this is not what you do at the end of a party for a private rental, be polite go in a private area) 3) and for no pitchers of water or water glass at every seat at the tables.
