They over-charged me $2 on spaghetti with meat sauce ... The menu said $14.99 ... When I got the bill it was $16.99. they said it was because of the price of beef, but there was no sign or note on the menu. What other corners do they cut? Plus they were rude when I called the next day. Service is always slow and aggravating. I was a regular, but not no more. the spaghetti was undercooked and hard to eat, the meat sauce needed salt to cut the acidity. didn't offer grated cheese. STAY AWAY!!! read more

On the same day that the governor announced he was sending the National Guard to 5 counties surrounding Dayton because of being a coronavirus hotspot, the kitchen workers in Jimmy's had NO MASKS OR GLOVES ON while fixing food. They said the owner told them they didn't have to. 1 worker tossing pizza dough, another fixing salads, another handling rolls...BARE HANDED NO MASKS! They just proved to me that they don't care about their customers! I think for a $70 pick up order, there should be more protection! I'll NEVER go back! Full STOP! And the food wasn't that great. I visited NYC in 1996, and I ate at every mom & pop stop that I could find during my vacation there. Never have I eaten at a place that reminded me of New York until I ate at Jimmy's last year with my girl. We are both hooked. You get a delicious bowl of soup and a side salad with your meal, for a very good price. The quality of the food seems excellent and the cheese is nice and stringy. My favorite part about this place is the slightly pissed off looking fellow that speaks Italian in the kitchen. I don't know if he is "Jimmy" or not, but he's exactly the kind of character I want making my Italian food. It's almost like something out of a movie! Haha. Go eat at this restaurant. It was awkward when we walked in, because there was no sign about waiting for seating or seating ourselves and they seemed busy, so we just seated ourselves. Salad and dressing were just your run of the mill store bought stuff, but I think that is where store bought stopped. The bread for my calzone was AMAZING. I could've sat and just eaten that for my whole meal:) The inside could've been cooked a little more, but it wasn't cold. My sister had the baked ravioli and really enjoyed it as well. They could use some ceiling fans or something, because it was a bit warm. If I am in the area and craving yummy bread I will stop in. read more

We loved this place so much! Our family ended up here randomly on a Thursday night. We sat out on the patio, the weather was perfect and that was just the beginning. They were short staffed, and Albert, our server, let us know right away. He was extremely attentive and took care of us, alone with everyone on the patio, and inside, extremely well. Food was fantastic and we even met some new friends, Harry and Melinda! Moe, the owner of the restaurant came out multiple times to check on us and to thank us for being there. Things to order....mmmm...ask, ask, ask, ask a lot of questions. I ordered the carbonara, and was asked if I wanted pink sauce or Alfredo. That was a mistake. My friend order the gnocchi, and it was breaded, a telltale sign it came from a food truck. I always jump at the chance to support a local business and I had my first opportunity to visit Jimmy's when we were Christmas shopping in the area and became famished. Jimmy's did not disappoint our growling bellies. Portions were more than ample. The meatballs were delicious. Sauces were okay. Service was timely. Servers were friendly. Food was hot. Decor was meh. I'm told it used to be a Taco Bell. I hope they will invest in giving the place some style in the near future. Overall, we enjoyed the visit and the food was decent. I would return, but I don't find the need to drive out of my way to get back. read more

So yes, this is an Italian restaurant in an old Taco Bell building, but don't let that put you off. Once you walk inside, you'd never know it'd been a cheap Taco dispensary. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, keeping our water glasses topped off, and was happy to answer questions. She recommended the house dressing for my salad, and it was a fine choice indeed. I ordered the pasta trio, which came with soup and salad, while my friend ordered the fettuccine alfredo. Both entrees came with a couple of garlic knots. The red sauce was quite nice, and I look forward to trying other dishes that use it. The stuffed shell and manicotti in my trio were well-filled and tasty. My friend felt his fettuccine was acceptable, but overpriced. For 19 dollars, both of us were surprised it wasn't at the very least served with fresh steamed broccoli or jazzed up with some red pepper flakes or sweet red peppers for color. I do think we'll be back, but not too often, thanks to the higher prices. Though the decor is quite nice, the dimensions of the restaurant are a little cramped given its origins, so tables and booths are a bit small, at least in the portion of the restaurant we were seated in. read more

Awful experience. Called in for pick up and upon arriving was treated both rudely and mockingly when paying. Then asked about the rolls it says that come with my dishes and the person giving me my food said that was only with dine in not to go. Ok sad but can deal Secondly the food. Seafood trio had a ton of noodles, two shrimp and a few scallops and some I suppose clams chopped up so fine and everything was so over cooked we could have been chewing rubber. The linguine in clam sauce was so over cooked that wasn't edible and the clams I suspect were imitation meat as there was no taste of clams at all and all you could do was swallow in hopes that it went down. Lastly when I called them to complain I was told that I never ordered food from them and must be calling a different restaurant. There's one of you. Will never go back. Avoid at all costs read more

Saw a post a few days ago on Facebook & decided to give it a try. We mostly only eat at independently owned restaurants & the food looked really good. Our waitress was great... wish I had got her name. The food was very good. We ordered the spinach ravioli and a pizza on her recommendation. The owner(?) Mo even came to check on us. Definitely planned to come back. UNTIL at 10:23 pm a rude man came out of the back & said we close at 10.. you must leave.. VERY rudely. We had finished our food & drinks but I was still appalled. There was another table that ordered a fresh round of drinks at 10 pm and didn't get to even finish them. I was appalled!! Plus I honestly thought they closed at 11 because that's what it states on FB which is where I learned about them in the first place. Needless to say we will never be back. $60 check and 30%+ tip. Not sure what was better: the food or sincerity of the servers and owner! Only stopped in because of the Yelp reviews; so glad I did! I perceived the servers whom I had opportunity to engage or observe as sincerely interested in taking care of their guests both in a timely manner, and with just the right amount of attentiveness (doubly impressive as they were somewhat young-men)! As a former server, the sincerity and finesse (independent of gender) garners huge points. Ditto the sincerity of the owner who did table checks. His inquiries were not canned, rather unique and authentic to each setting. These people seemed to genuinely care about what they were doing. Wait; what? Yup, is true. While my meal (spaghetti with meat sauce) had already been served, and was very hot, and very flavorful, and very abundant, it was the "table checks" sending the experience over the top, confirming I would re-patronize the place. read more

This was a great find for lunch while we were in the area. We got the toasted ravioli for an app, which we rarely get so I was pleased it was tasty. Nice crunchy breading and decent amount of filling and a good marinara to dip. The side salad was pretty standard, nothing fancy- my grandpa would've flipped for it. The hubby loved their house dressing and said they should bottle and sell it. (Should've asked if they did!) Lasagna was a good, proper lasagna like I grew up on. We like to call this "80's lasagna." It's got a lot of sauce, a good balance of ricotta to meat and the meat is hamburger not that God awful ragu crap restaurants insist on. (If they even carry lasagna, it's getting harder to find!) It's not artisanal and I like that. The staff is friendly and keep up as best they can. The server seemed a little stretched and looked like he might've been taking care of both rooms. I had the linguine with red clam sauce. It came out so hot I almost burnt my mouth! That is a good thing and very fresh. Clam sauce had a good flavor and just enough garlic to satisfy my craving. Not the cheapest thing on the menu but took home enough for 2 more meals! The service was excellent and the manager even came out to see how things were. A real nice guy! First time here and we ordered carryout. Very long wait for our order but it was a Saturday night. Problem was the overall poor quality of the food and the ridiculous price we had to pay for it. Literally, we could have just microwaved some "Marie Callender's" frozen meals and not known the difference. Portions were miniscule and the salad consisted of iceberg lettuce with a small slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber...that was it! The waitress never came back and checked on us after giving us our food. Not even for refills or to ask if we wanted desert or anything else. Finally tried this restaurant after my friend had recommended it several times. Was not disappointed. Ordered the veal parmigiana, which was a little tough, but was still delicious. I've been to Jimmy's more times than I can count. It's one of my favorite restaurants. I had one bad experience there years ago, but every one since has been amazing. The chicken parm is great. I love the pepperoni rolls (expect grease, it's basically a rolled up pizza). They usually have a an option for a free bowl of the soup of the day for dine in. When asked, just say yes. My all time favorite is the pasta trio. But YOU HAVE TO GET IT WITH THE PINK SAUCE!!! It's a mix of the marinara and Alfredo and it's so freaking good! Also, ask for extra garlic rolls. read more

Okay, I went here for lunch. I live in San Antonio, TX and we don't have many Italian restaurants, we have plenty of Taqueria, not so much on the Italian side. I come to Dayton for business at least once a quarter, when I eat I usually eat at one Italian place and avoid all "Mexican" food as much as possible. I didn't mean to go to this restaurant, it was by accident. Coming in for lunch the place seemed clean enough and the staff was very friendly. It did help that the waitress was training someone. Lunch menu is limited, but really you want to see that so you aren't getting something that has been living in the freezer for a month. Basic pasta dishes and staple subs is the fair. I got the sausage and peppers dish, and it was great. good size, the onions and peppers were fresh and the sauce was good. Was it the most amazing experience ever? No, but it is lunch. It is a place you come in, get a good sandwich, eat and go back to work. The place (for lunch) is down to earth and no thrills. This brings me to my second point, too many reviewers of this place have been watching Food network, seriously here is a quote: "We expected the food to be oozing with homemade goodness." What the hell is that? Seriously? It was "homemade" (as much as any restaurant), it isn't fast food, it isn't Jimmy Johns, it also isn't a crummy greasy spoon. It is a nice Italian restaurant. People having expectations of some hole in the wall having a masterful wonderful recipe because they watched Drive Inns, Dinners, and Dives too much or one of its many clones, need to get over themselves. My grandmother would sometimes make pecan pie, and we would find rubber bands in it. Doesn't mean I expect to have rubber bands in my pecan pie when I order it in a restaurant, may be some of you should realize that sometimes a small restaurant is nothing more than a small restaurant that serves up good honest food to hardworking people. Not some diamond in the rough that has brilliant home cook food. So get over yourself, and enjoy the food. read more

I tried this place on a whim when we work lunch crew wanted to try something new from our usual options at the Greene. We are very glad we decided to venture 1/2 a mile down the road to Jimmy's. While the exterior is not amazing (it's in an old Taco Bell building), the inside is very warm and inviting. Think Mom and Pop authentic Italian. From the minute we walked in the door, I could smell the delicious aroma of homemade pasta sauce. The place wasn't very crowded on a Thursday at 11:30 AM, so we were quickly seated and given the specials for the day. Two of the folks in our group opted for calzones, while I went for pasta. I followed the waitress's suggestion and ordered Chicken Primavera. Very very good! Fresh chicken lightly breaded and fried up crispy, then placed on top of a pile of linguini mixed with a roasted red pepper sauce and mozzarella. A homemade Italian masterpiece that rivaled my other favorite Italian spot in the area: Mamma DiSalvo's. Served with a garlic bread and soup, you can't go wrong! While I won't quite give Jimmy's the 5-stars I give DiSalvo's for taste and presentation, it's still worth checking out for those in the mood for a good pasta. read more

If you had told me that I was about to have some italian food that rivaled Mama Disalvo's for the best in dayton before I walked into this converted Taco Bell, I would have scoffed, I would have pshed, at the very least I would have questioned your culinary judgement -- but! While the atmosphere was a little disappointing (it's in an old Taco Bell building), the main entrees were great! We sat down and started checking out the menu after we order our drinks. I had a glass of the house Burgandy wine ($4.50 for a large pour) that was pretty good. We asked our server what she would recommend as it was our first time in. Her response had us a bit worried as she said she never really ate any of the food there...yikes. I decided on the Eggplant Rollatini (as another Yelper recommended anything with Eggplant). My husband had Spaghetti with Sausage. The soup was ok at best, but was a nice touch as it gives more value for the money. The salad was run of the mill iceburg lettuce with a few red onion and black olive slices. Nothing great. The main entrees arrived and this is where Jimmy's shines. The sauce was full of chunky tomatoes with just enough spice. The pasta was cooked perfectly. I absolutely LOVED my Eggplant dish. It was fantastic and the hubby really enjoyed his dish as well. We ordered a pizza to bring home for the kiddo and we tried the leftovers today for lunch. The pizza...Oh Man it is Great! Even warmed up! I think we've found our favorite pizza place in Dayton! The atmosphere is quaint, the owner is very friendly. The food is outstanding and the quality and quantity are beyond reproach. We had the dinner spaghetti with meatballs and manicotti. The meals come with soup and salad (both fresh and large). The meal could have feed two, two rolls and two large tennis ball sized meatballs. The sauce was on point and full of flavor. The only downside was our server. The food came out on time, but he didn't keep up with our drinks or needs. When we could get his attention, he would forget to return with our refills, or utensils, or boxes, or check. He was a good kid, just overwhelmed. The food and prices were awesome, we will return. We stopped here after a long day trip with extreme trepidation. You can easily tell that the building was once a Taco Bell. It didn't help when we came in and there were no other customers (it was around 4, so early for the dinner crowd, but still). But then-what a pleasant surprise!!!! Our waiter welcomed us promptly and couldn't have been nicer and more attentive. True, we were his only table for most of the time, but he still went above and beyond. We started with calamari and pierogis-both were outstanding. The plate of calamari was piled high and easily could have been a meal in itself. They were tender and perfectly prepared with just a light breading, and not overfried like so many restaurants do. The pierogis were also quite tasty and well done. We both had linguini in clam sauce and it was one of the best I've ever had. The pasta was al dente, prepared completely correctly. The sauce was light and flavorful, with plenty of clam content. Everything was delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. They have done a nice job of updating the interior-the only thing I would recommend is that the bathrooms need a major rehab. They were very clean, but still had that God awful whatever it is popped paneling you find in fast food restrooms painted in that dingy brown shade. But that's a minor quibble. This is a great little place. Its in an old Taco Bell building...definitely mom and pop. The food is good...nothing seems to be out of a can or bag. The only downside is that, for my tatstes, some of the staples are a little bland. Meatballs, mannicotti...have great texture but lack that little punch of seasoning that would push them into greatness. This is terribly subjective, but has been the opinion of my wife and I on two visits.
