As a loyal patron of the original Jim's on S. Winton Rd., I was mourning its loss until a couple of weeks ago when I went to Jim's on Main for the first time since the re-open. I had been before when it was Jim's II and was not impressed. I love the new space! They somehow managed to create one of the best diner environments in Rochester while still maintaining their low prices and family-run appeal. Although the location is not quite as convenient for me, and I do miss the old Jim's, I was extremely pleased with this location. I always get the same thing-- the Eye Opener is two eggs, hash browns and toast for less than $4-- and it's always amazing. Definitely a greasy spoon breakfast but I just love it. Best hash browns I've ever had (I ask for them extra crispy) and one of the servers, who also happens to be the owner's son, always remembers me and my order down to the over medium cooked eggs and dry whole wheat toast! It's a seemingly small thing but it's so nice to think that despite how many customers come through there, the staff take time to get to know the regulars. I was surprised that he remembered me when I came to the new location because I hadn't been in for months after the original location closed. I'm glad the place maintained the charm and feel of the old location with the same good quality of food and reasonable prices. I will definitely be back soon! read more

What a great find! Was going to a show at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre down the street and had just an hour to get a bite. There was a 15 minute wait (it was Sunday lunch after all) but within five minutes of sitting down, we had our food, impeccably prepared! Very reasonable pricing, too. Will definitely come back when in town. read more

Very large portions for a very reasonable price - if you're looking for good food on a budget, this is the place. Nice atmosphere, clean. Staff is very friendly too. The candid photos on the wall are a bit odd, it's a little uncomfortable - who are those people? Do they have a story? Why are they so large? Why are they watching me eat my reasonably priced brunch? Suggestion: The wall space would be great to show case local artists and sell their pieces....unless the portraits of random people are for sale... read more

Horrible! A friend of mine took our children there for a mother daughter Sunday breakfast. Needless to say we sent our dish back because it was filled with meat! A veggie frittata and my hash brown dish... Came back with a ton of meat still. We were told everything cooks on the grill. Not sure about you but I've been to several restaurant ordering meatless dishes and never got meat in addition! They ran out of grits in which we had to split a dish. They overcharged us on our meals. One of the kid's meal was frozen on the inside. Needless to say after that visit we were two pissed vegetarians who will never return. read more

After the closing of the flagship Winton Rd. location, Jims on Main continues that special mix of family run, great diner fare, friendly faces, and very low prices in a newly remodeled space. Clean, bright and spacious, it still feels like walking onto the set of Cheers 'where everybody knows your name'. The loyal family, staff and customers are same faces you might have seen 5 or 10 years ago, mixed with new that have recently discovered what makes it so special. I view Jim's as a local breakfast gem that I am happy to see continue and flourish. I recommend the hash browns crispy as only they do them. Being a coffee snob, I wish theirs was better, but that is easy to get over with some fresh scrambled eggs :) read more

This place is the best place for breakfast, I went to both locations during college and they always took care of me. The Jim's Family always remembered my order, if your ever in the Rochester Downtown area early in the morning this is the place to be. Jims has held a special place in my heart since my first visit to the now nonexistent Jims restaurant (the original). From their uncanny ability to make you feel like family to the quick and friendly service, Jims is the place to go. The "new" Jims is nothing short of amazing. The past few months (the dark jimless months) have left me wondering, where do people go to diners in rochester? I forget what a good diner really is! But then, Jims reopened its doors, hearts, and huge griddle of greasy eggs and hash browns. Their return has been wonderful and my diner breakfast dreams are yet again a reality. Came here for brunch as a group of three and we all loved it. The coffee was solid diner coffee, and the wait staff were always nearby for refills. The menu had the standard gamut of breakfast option with enough variety to keep it interesting. There's also a lunch section on the menu but who would ever go for that? Our food came out fast and tasted great. We especially liked the home fries and hash browns. The wait staff were super friendly and patient even though the place was packed. Given the quality of the food and how clean the place was, we were happy to see that the prices were reasonable. We'll definitely be back. read more

We came here because of the great yelp reviews. It was busy when we got there a little before 8am on a Monday but there was one table open. I had something I can't pronounce that was potatoes and meats and eggs mixed together with cheese on it. She had a breakfast sandwich. It was all good and the price was great and the people are nice. That, in my book is 4 stars and maybe I'll comment. Then we decided to share a piece of $1.95 coffee cake. No big deal. Then it arrived. Oh my gosh. That was one of the best things I ever had. I wish I was able to start this review with how the food is, but that will have to wait. Jim's to me represents something more than just the epitome of breakfast; it is the very symbol and representation of family, which is the theme of what you are greeted with as soon as you enter the door. Besides frequenting the old location in South Winton years ago with friends I realized what kind of place this is. Not only a getaway for the foodies and early birds, but a sincere gem to the community. I went nearly every morning after a volunteer event at school, and after every long night out from downtown Rochester with friends. But the moment I realized that this isn't just a place for incredible breakfast sandwiches, or sincere service was about a year ago when I walked in with my cap and gown for graduation of my bachelor's degree. I used to think it funny that some people would say "I'm getting married here", but the thought has since become envy. Jim's is the type of place where they will sit down with you for a quick bite to eat at the counter and check in with how you're doing, but especially say they are sincerely proud of you for walking the stage and congratulate you out the door. How lucky I am to have an experience of such a kind where if you walk in with a smile they will reciprocate 100x with kindness and generosity in their service. I thank all the staff at Jim's for the uniqueness, genuine care, and family atmosphere to exist in Rochester's history. I have never been happier to see a place reopen! This diner is a gem. Hangover? They have you covered. Great place to pop into after hitting the public market! The new space is open and inviting. The southern special is highly recommended and approved by every southern houseguest we have brought in. The veggies are fresh and unlike a lot of diners I've frequented, there is never a puddle of grease left on the plate. They are accommodating to special requests, and the price is spot on. I was really sad to see the original close as my Dad used to take me here all time as a little girl. Today I was pleasantly surprised with the new Jim's. We were sat right away in a booth. I ordered the eggs Benedict with hash browns. My 3 year old had the Mickey Mouse pancake which he Loved! Mine was equally good. Food and coffee was mediocre at best, but the main reason for the low rating is because my friend and I were there for maybe 1.5 hours, and the waitstaff 'checked in' on us literally 20+ times. It was absolutely ridiculous and super disruptive when I'm trying to enjoy myself and have a conversation with my friend. Sure it was a busy time of day, but no one was waiting for a table. And even if they did have customers waiting, its extremely rude and horrible customer service to try and annoy people into leaving your establishment. If you go here, you better be quick or they will straight up harass you with their incessant 'check ins'. Never going back again. read more

Food and waitress service is always excellent. The only problem we had recently was when the hostess brought us over to a booth way in back which we did not want, and when we asked for a different seat she said she couldn't do that, without any reason why not. There were many available booths and tables in the restaurant, so why couldn't she seat us at one of those? We immediately left the restaurant without sitting down anywhere, and we sent a note to the owner, and never received a response from her. Based on their treatment of my 83 year old husband and myself, 72 years old, we are well dressed and well spoken professional people -- we will not be returning to Jim's restaurant. read more

Even when it's busy their ticket times are outstanding so you won't wait too long to eat once you place your order. I personally love the eggs Benedict, hash browns and love their coffee cake . I don't even know where to start. The service was amazing! It took a few minutes for us to be seated, but it was extremely worth it. The food and drinks came quickly, and the menu had so much to choose from! It was an amazing breakfast for me and my family. Truly an amazing dining experience. The food was really good.
