I appreciate how many golf courses contain a great bar and grill. To us it's the 19th hole following a round of golf. Jim's is located at the Chuck Corica golf complex. Plenty of seating. Tons of folks know about this breakfast gem and it brings in more than just the golfers. They are currently renovating the area- but still a nice place to eat outside on the patio. The food was awesome- large and hearty portions. The waitress was very friendly as the folks we were with were all regulars. However, we waited a really long time (1 hour) for the food (hence only 4/5 stars). I understand it was a holiday but I imagine they would have been better prepared. read more

Maybe it should be Jim's OFF THE COURSE. They were very busy on Sunday. We go there about once or twice a month. Servers are very friendly and it seems they've improved on getting orders taken and food delivered to your table in a timely manner. Unfortunately, this time it was a very frustrating experience. How hard is it to toast bread? Their toaster only toasts on one side. Even then, it's not toasted well. Minor issue. Coffee in the container was lukewarm. My significant other can drink coffee that's not that hot, but even he said the coffee wasn't hot. But when you're order is wrong, it's irritating. After waiting, and waiting order was brought back correctly, but the cottage cheese tasted weird. I didn't say anything about that (they probably would think I'm looking for something/anything to complain about). The food was cold. It was sitting there in the kitchen. Again, so frustrating. Finally they made a new order. It was correct. It wasn't a pleasant experience. The bill came to $55 for breakfast not including tip. Not cheap. read more

Excellent coffee shop plus! Their Eggs Benedict and Crabcakes Benedict are absolutely delicious, and made with fresh hollandaise. Outdoor seating at umbrella tables is very pleasant. My only gripe - my otherwise fab Club Sandwich was made with everything fresh and yummy but the pressed turkey. I suggested to Mgmt to consider using fresh-cooked turkey and upticking the price a bit if necessary - I suspect no one would gripe. I just went back and had a fabulous salad - spinach, delicious blue cheese chunks, lots of delicious chicken breast, a champagne vinaigrette. I should also commend their server, Juanito. Good guy. Alamedans fall into two categories: those who go to Ole's for their breakfast fix and those who go to Jim's. I fall into the latter category. While I normally go to their location on Lincoln, I decided to give their Bay Farm location a try last Wednesday. Overall, I was impressed by the size, convenience, and backdrop of Jim's on The Course (try to snag a window-side table!), but thought that the service was lacking. Nearly every table was filled with customers, yet there were only two waiters on staff. I spent the majority of breakfast craning my neck to ask for a coffee refill. That being said, the food and coffee were pretty good, on average. The vegetarian omelet was by far the best meal ordered. It came loaded with fresh veggies and topped with a pile of cheese and half of an avocado. I recommend this dish 100%. The plate-sized blueberry pancakes were similarly impressive, arriving with a pile of cooked blueberries and a flourish of whipped cream. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that the muffins sold at Jim's On the Course are refrigerated Costco muffins wrapped in cellophane. The poppyseed muffin I ordered came out cold. I am so sad to give this place a 1 star after the 5 star I gave a few months ago. My family and I have been coming here for years as dedicated customers. It's kid friendly, the food is affordable, and usually the service is superb. Everytime we have been here before we have received great service from Juanito, Marcela, and Meg. Yesterday was a different server who I had never seen before. I didn't catch her name, but she was not friendly, nor helpful at all. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:15, planning to be done by 1:15. We had tickets to a show in San Jose which started at 3:00, so giving ourselves 1 hour and 45 minutes to drive to San Jose would give us ample time, right? Wrong! My son ordered the hamburger patty, well-done, with fries. Our friend ordered a hamburger patty, medium-well, with fries. Both just the patty, not the hamburger. My fiancé ordered cornbeef hash and eggs. I ordered a cheeseburger, well-done, with fries. Simple order. We placed our order at 12:30...Omg, our order didn't arrive until 1:15! A 45 minute wait for that order. I was watching Juanito and Marcela's tables and their customers were receiving their food. Our server's tables were not receiving a thing. We ended up having to scarf our food down because we had to rush to get to San Jose. Oh, and did I mention that our server brought us our food and 3 of the 4 orders were wrong? At least she got one right, which was the cornbeef hash and eggs for my fiancé. My son received the pink, medium-well patty (which our friend had ordered, our friend received the hamburger patty with cheese (which was supposed to be on my burger that I ordered), and I received a plain hamburger (which I guess what supposed to be my son's hamburger patty). I tried to tell her that the orders were not right and she kind of just looked at me blankly like I should just fix the problem myself. I ended up removing the patty from my burger and giving it to my son. My son gave the pink medium-well burger to our friend. And I ended up removing the patty with cheese and placing it on my bun from my friend's plate. Talk about playing a game of musical hamburgers... Before our food arrived we asked our server (who we hadn't seen in 30 minutes), after waiting for 30 minutes where our food was and she said "yours is up next." Uh huh...by that time we had already been at the restaurant for 45 minutes, had not been offered refills for our drinks, and still no food. Our food didn't arrive until 1:15! 1 hour from when we stepped into the door. Pretty pathetic. We told our server that we had been waiting for almost an hour and had to be somewhere because we had tickets to an event. Her response? "Oh, I feel sorry for you. Your food is coming." My fiancé ended up paying the bill before our food even arrived because we were scared it was going to take even longer just to get the bill. The food was mediocre. Even my 5 year old who loves this place said he didn't like his food, and he doesn't have a very sophisticated pallet. My burger was dripping with grease, which it normally doesn't. It was so soggy that It was falling apart. It was just gross. Oh and guess what, Jim's? Because of your slow service yesterday from that server, we missed half of the show we had tickets to! We didn't get out of that restaurant until 1:45! That's 1 hour and 30 minutes that we spent there eating mediocre food, and not receiving refills on our drinks. This place is terrible - don't bother coming here! Hahaha - no, it's fabulous. The wait staff couldn't be friendlier, and the outdoor seating is the BEST. There is ample space with views of golfers and greenery. The food is simple American food, but their coffee and hash browns are my go-to-favorites. Every time I go there, the hash browns are just perfectly sizzled. The pancakes are just right, and they allow substitutions of toast with pancakes sometimes. You wait for over 20 minutes for someone to even acknowledge you and bring you menus clean off your table or water. Awful service. An omelet was raw in the middle. I ordered a vanilla latte (which was made from a machine like ones at a gas station) and it arrived 10 minutes after most of the food arrived. The salad took the longest to get to the table. We were given a $4 discount on the raw omelet, fine. The waitress never checked on our table. When we got the check, there was a $20 gratuity added, I refused to pay for that. Raw food, horrible service, and 30 minute plus wait for a disgusting latte did not deserve even a $5 gratuity. Not that Jim's OTC is always teeming with families, because it's teeming with all sorts of folks in search of a basic diner style brekkie, lunch, dinner, and/or cocktail whether golfing or not. There are tables of: elderly couples, golfing buddies, friends, families, and neighbors all in the mix. A very boisterous group of Samoan golfers that my other half plays golf with are at Jim's almost every weekend. It's a diverse crowd. While the crowd may be diverse, the menu never changes, which is what we like about Jim's. I know I can get a breakfast sandwich, burger, gyro, grilled cheese sandwich, etc. knowing they won't have changed their formula. My partner and kids go for the pancakes and omelets. If you need to nurse a hangover, it's the perfect place to watch sports TV and sip on a Bloody Mary. Plus, you can do that kind of thing at any hour of the day while Jim's is open without judgment! So, while the food in general isn't spectacular, it is always reliable. Today, it was very crowded when we got there, but we still managed to get a table without a wait. Our service was initially slow, but seeing the amount of love bites the waiter had up and down his neck, we figured his mind was probably elsewhere for the most part. Maybe we waited because he was holding sexual congress in the kitchen pantry. In any case, it isn't usually that slow! So, if you don't mind carpets the color of Astroturf, and like to look out at the golfers, geese, and golf carts cruising around on Chuck Corica Golf Course, Jim's on the Green is definitely a safe bet. read more

An Alameda resident told me that you're either a Jim's person or an Ole's person. I enjoyed my visit to Ole's much more, so I guess that puts me in Ole's camp. Me and golf? Nope, not the best of friends. I play golf about as well as I play cello. I've never played a cello. So why would you ever find me on a golf course? Breakfast, naturally. Okay, maybe not naturally. What the hell is breakfast doing on a golf course in the first place? Who knows - all I know is that Jim's on the Course is one of only two places to get breakfast on Bay Farm Island, and it happens to be right on the golf course. If you know Jim's on the main island of Alameda, Jim's on the Course will be familiar but with a significantly shorter menu and in strange setting. On one hand you have the golf course (pretty and green, but remarkably flat and no doubt quite dull even compared to normal golf), and on the other hand you have the restaurant, which is in a building that is eerily reminiscent of an elementary school, but is really just a grubby, aging golf course lounge, complete with bar, and a once green carpet that has been heartily abused over many years by muddy-shoed people heading for the bar after a day of playing dull golf. So it's kind of an odd atmosphere for a breakfast place, but one that for whatever reason really appealed to me in a camp sort of way (and luckily the room doesn't smell like a bar, thank god). The breakfast food is fine - nothing amazing, nothing bad. The service is cheery and prompt, there is never a problem finding a table, and the food is hot and fresh. The coffee is brown. The eggs are white and yellow. That's about all. Plain, simple, decent breakfast food served on the course - hard to argue with that. read more

Worst service ever. Bartender is killing herself to serve the bar AND several tables while a dozen servers stand around twiddling their thumbs. After complaining to the bartender/waitress, a server and the manager, 30 mins later we got our food. My husband's food arrived on a filthy plate & my salad was SWIMMING in dressing. Fries were completely under-cooked. Water boy completely ignored us, despite frantically waving him down. They were wise enough to discount our meal, but wow. Get it together Jim's. Hmmm... I don't play golf but been here a couple times for breakfast with the wife and kids and a business lunch with colleagues. This is definitely a step up from the often-busy location on Lincoln Ave. Much more serene (hey, it's on a golf course) and simply less people. It's almost dead, in fact, so if you love the food at original Jim's (which I don't), but don't like the wait, this is the place. Parking should never be a problem in the huge lot. This is a public course, not ritzy, so the atmosphere is a bit busy with no interior design direction (or attention) at all. Lots of TVs for sports, memorabilia, beer banners, etc. It's kid friendly, but I'm just never impressed with the food at either location. Big but bland portions of run-of-the-mill diner food; nothing I'd ever crave (vs. Ole's waffles, pancakes or fried chicken, for example). However, during this time of Covid-19 ownership's behavior towards it's employees is disgraceful. Essentially having said to them, 'We are closing, we have nothing to offer you, good luck and best wishes.' The subtext is ownership wants to keep all of their profits accrued from the labor of their staff to themselves. Think about this the next time you decide where you want to dine out at. read more

Great place for lunch. It's quiet and the food is filling. I'd give them 5 stars if the prices were a little more affordable. $8 for Biscuits and Gravy seems a bit steep for me. It's really delicious and that's why I order it, but I'd order it more often if the price was more appealing. read more

At around 5:45 PM on August 20, 2011, Better Half, my mom, and I went to Jim's on the Course on our way to enjoy a performance at the Alatrena Theater. After standing in the entrance for a couple minutes and not being acknowledged by any workers, we sat ourselves at a very visible table in the middle of the restaurant, surrounded by blaring TVs. There were a few other diners present, as well as some bar customers. It appeared that one server, a young man with fuzz under his chin, was responsible for the entire dining room. We waited and waited. No menus, no water, no nothing. Meanwhile, fuzzy chin boy served other customers and the bartender even brought drinks out to one table. After about ten minutes of being ignored we got up and left. Of course, no workers even bothered to acknowledge us at that point, either. I haven't been to Jim's downtown Alameda diner in quite awhile (so-so food and service and a decidedly trashy customer base) but I have eaten at Jim's on the Course several times before, usually for breakfast with Better Half's family. They always get good service because they're regulars and because BH's mom is a generous tipper. But it seems if you're not a regular, or an "athlete" coming off the course, you are not welcome at Jim's. I won't be back for any meal. read more

Came here for brunch with friends. To maximize the sweet and savory balance, we shared: 1. Linguisa Sandwich with fries 2. Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries (whipped cream on the side) 3. Bacon, avocado and mushroom omelette with hash browns. All were great. The portions were plentiful. We were extremely satisfied. However, service was just okay.. there were just two servers working and they seemed overwhelmed for the large dining room. At one point one of the workers must have been on break because we switched servers for a while and sat with empty water glasses for about ten minutes. All in all, not bad - I get it. My pancakes fill the whole plate. Waffles are consistently good (although I will say this last time they were a bit on the dark side). Service can take a while. Staffs are friendly, but you can get really slow service on a none busy day. I've been here more than 10 times because it's close and convenient for me as a restaurant and golf range. Do not get the steak because even if you request medium rare, it'll come out welllllllllll doneeeeeeeee. The meat is so dry and it have an after taste of charcoal! My daughter enjoys feeding whatever she didn't finish to the birds that's flying nearby. read more

My go-to place for any breakfast or brunch outings. They have a solid menu with very reasonable prices and huge portions. I would really recommend their waffles and any of their omelettes. I've had a couple of my friends also try the steak & eggs and chicken fried steak and they all liked it. The only thing that I would dock is that sometimes things can get a bit too greasy, and once my husband's sausages were like salt sticks and basically inedible. Thankfully the waitress apologized and replaced it with another side at no charge. This place is good for families and bigger groups. It's not really one of those vintage, cutesy brunch places but has a more all-American dining experience to it. It's right on the golf course so you can get a nice view if you sit near the windows. I am very disappointed to change my review from 5 stars to 2 stars. However, The time has come. My wife and I live on Bay Farm, and have been loyal customers for over 10 years. We use to come here a couple of times per month, but over the last 2 years the food has gone down hill and along with it, our visits have dropped. We keep giving them chance after chance, b/c the service is always good. I am not sure we can go to Jim's anymore. For example, we were there this morning. I ordered an omelette and home fries....the home fries came out cold and soggy. So I did something I almost never do. Asked the waiter for a new order. He was nice about it and took my plate back to the kitchen. But instead of giving me a new order of potatoes, the cook just stuck the whole plate in the microwave. So now I have warm soggy potatoes. Just not acceptable. I really should have insisted on a fresh side order of home fires. There are just too many other good options for breakfast on the Island, for me to continue to get barely mediocre food at Jim's. read more

I am so impressed with the customer service from Maggie.. Maggie is a Rock Star. She is running every table by herself and you seem to have a pretty full house right now. I work in the service industry with 20 tables turning over every 20-30 minutes. As I would have guessed, most patrons are regulars. She knows everyone's name, and every one knows hers. Great atmosphere with the golf course in the background. My guest ordered a couple of omelets, which came out perfectly. I ordered my regular, corn beef hash w/eggs over medium. When my order came, the eggs were sunnyside up & egg white running. I told the waitress that I ordered my eggs over medium, she checked & I was right (of course.) I had them cook the eggs as I requested. It came back cooked over, however still runny egg whites. It was.returned to the kitchen. By the time my eggs came out the way I requested, I was done with my breakfast. I suggested to the waitress, maybe she should just charge me for the breakfast w/o the eggs...she just smiled. I have never sent my eggs back, 3 times, before they finally got the over medium, correct. I'm sure they will get it right next time. Lincoln, always gets it correct. read more
