I was sad to see Angela's go, and hadn't taken the step to go to what was in its place. Finally took that step and will say that I was pleasantly surprised by Moxie's. Service and Staff: - All of the staff members were very nice Food and Drinks: - Poached eggs on top of grilled sourdough, asparagus and lemony hollandaise: yes, this is the full name of the dish (they don't have set names). This dish was delicious! I was hesitant about the asparagus at first due to the difference in textures across the meal, but it blended in nicely. The flavors were good. Comes with two poached eggs and a good amount of smoked salmon. - Steak & Eggs: little but on the smaller side in regards to the steak skewers. The potato doughnuts are delicious (especially with the romesco sauce). Miscellaneous: - Parking available via a shared parking lot with the marketplace (as well as street parking) - If you have room, there are a few dessert options. They also have a donut cart - Good for small and large groups - Indoor and outdoor seating available

Caesar salad. Can youspot the anchovies?

Been wating to try Moxie for a while. Its a smallish restaurant so reservations can be hard to get. Party of 4 on a Sat night. They texted us 20 minutes before our reservation time to tell us our table was ready. Nice touch. Plenty of parking in the shared lot behind the restaturant. Arrived 5 mins early and our table was ready. 3 of us ordered the restaurant week prix fixe special of a caesar salad, steak and fries and soft service ice cream. The other ordered the 14 oz ribeye nad brussel sprouts. The caesar was very good and elevated with 2 anchovies on top. The french onion was quite strong so I watered it down a llittle and it was fine. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and the brussel sprouts were tasty. Unfortunately the steak special was a little too salty and was tought he cut and chew. I would have preferred paying more and getting a better steak. The ice cream came in a big bowl with a chocolate cap. Yum! Service was great - very friendly and checked on us to make sure everything was OK. Overall a good experience but didn't knock our socks off.

    Mac & Cheese w/ Gorgonzola

Brought my husband for his birthday and we really enjoyed ourselves! Cozy, moody vibes, with delicious food. Our server was really personable and attentive too! We ordered: - 8oz Bavette - Brussel Sprouts with Spicy Orange Gochujang Sauce - Classic Mash - Mac & Cheese w/ Gorgonzola - Tableside Caesar Salad - Dungeness Crab cake with a Fennel Lemon Bibb Salad - 2 cocktails My husband loved the Bavette. The mash was *chef's kiss* (buttery goodness). I enjoyed the mac & cheese, but do not get it with gorgonzola unless you LOVE gorgonzola. Everything else was good too. My only gripe was the portion/sizing of the crab cake (for the cost and size, I think you should get at least two). I don't live in Alameda, but would go back if in the area again.

After slightly a year or so in their initial operations, I finally was able to give them a whirl. This is a steakhouse but a modern one, not those old school ones with dark wood all around and black and white photos. It is dark in there (at night) but it is pretty stylish with urban flair. When I first heard a steakhouse was opening in Alameda, I was a bit skeptical. But now that I've seen it first hand, I gotta say I liked it...a lot even. Their menu is strictly a la carte, which is common for steakhouses. Everything has to be ordered individually. Soup, salad, starch or veggies to go with steak, all have to be ordered separately. I found getting 2 sides is very sharable for 2 diners. Their beef sourcing is also very modern. Instead of using basic USDA graded/fed meat, they'll use smaller ranches/farms right here in California. They may even feature 2 different farms, so you may even get an education on top of a full and happy belly. I'm actually leaning into this type of beef eating as it is more wholesome and sustainable. And since I have cut my beef consumption by a lot these days, I might as well eat more with choice and deliberation versus just what our government pushes on us. Templeton Rye on the rocks ($12/5*) Decent pour and loved how they carried this brand of bourbon. This is naturally aromatic and spicy with sweet fruit esters and a bold cinnamon tinge. So I often don't want to mask it with vermouth or cherries, just a little ice to make the spirit bloom. And that price, Iets just say it can turn me into a reg. Asparagus and Roast Garlic Soup ($10/5*) This was a soup special the night I went. Verbally announced. Perfect fine dining cream soup, silky texture and good asparagus flavor. And they garnish it with thick and chewy hits of lardons (OG bacon), small but garlic-y croutons and maybe some creme fraiche. Equally pleasing for the eye as well as for the palate. Abatti Farms Bavette Steak ($48/5*) Sure they've got filet, strip and ribeyes here, but I'm always looking for more not-so-conventional steak cuts like flat iron, flank, hanger or this, which is also called 'flap meat', But the french bavette just sounds so much more suave. Lol. This flap meat steak is pan seared very aggressively that a thick dark brown crust is achieved. Well salted that biting into the crust with the juicy beefy center was beef encapsulated. I heard angels sing in harmony in my head, as I closed my eyes to let the euphoric wave course through my senses. You can get sauces to try (extra charge) but for my first out, I enjoyed the steak just fine without any extraneous saucing. I had never heard of Abatti Farms but after looking it up, they are a small sustainable farm from the Imperial Valley in Socal that raises Wagyu breeds, so American wagyu. Definitely not as fatty as Japanese raised wagyu but still quality inherent fat within the bites. They also featured steaks from another farm that featured the Holstein breed for cattle. I totally want to take this educational ride with them. Classic Mash ($10/5*) Perfectly smooth and hearty texture. Didn't seem like Yukon golds as it wasn't yellowish, so just basic but enrichened with a good dose of butter and probably cream. Nothing to clash with the beef from being overly rich. Simple and solid. Wild Mushrooms ($10/4*) Good assortment of mushrooms all cut into smaller pieces. Intense mushroom flavor with a good hit of fresh thyme. They do more of a dry sauté, almost seems roasted so made it more intense, almost a tad crisp. Most other mushroom preps are more wet and saucy. But this paired with the intense beef, creamy potatoes and sips of their Rhone selection was just sublime. Cognac and Coffee ($13/4.5*) I was too full for dessert so I asked the bartender to make me one I could just sip on. I said I was kinda in the mood for an Irish Coffee type of drink but said you can do your thing. We settled on a variant by using Cognac, Martell I think they used. Just a touch of real soft cream made for a nice aromatic and slow sipper. Maybe next time I'll request a drop of Grand Marnier or some other liqueur to add another layer of flavor. But great finish to an epic winters meal. Regular status here I come.

I've been here a few times for brunch and dinner and my experiences have been pretty great. They have a small but well-curated brunch menu, which also includes a donut cart with fancy artisanal donuts. For dinner they offer nice cuts of beef at a variety of price points, delicious sides and cocktails. Service is courteous, attentive, and friendly and the ambiance is lovely due to the moody lighting and mid-century modern art deco decor. It's a perfect date night spot.

    Mashed potatoes

Came here on an early Sunday night, so it wasn't too busy. We were seated promptly (2 people) The ambiance is on the darker side, but we didn't mind. For appetizers we had: Mashed potatoes - small portion, but perfect for two people or one person if you are really hungry. We liked it. Brussel sprouts - cooked well, but we did not like the citrus taste Caesar salad - we ordered the small Portion and it came with anchovies, which I loved. I don't like a lot of dressing on my salad, so I would ask for less dressing if you are the same Entrees: I had the prime rib which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It wasn't bad, but Nothing life changing. For the price: I probably wouldn't order it again. Much rathe pay for the experience at a place like house of prime rib. My partner had the rib eye: medium rare, cooked perfectly so no complaints. Everything is made to share so be prepared to pay for everything extra including all of the sauces like horseradish and Chimichurri. They were about $4 each.

Party of four on a Sunday night for a birthday dinner. Can you see Moxie on Instagram reels and decided to give it a try for a special occasions dinner. We made a reservation at least a month in advance, and that went well. We were seated probably once we arrive and the hostess was friendly and fast. The table that we were sat at was a perfect size for the five of us. It was comfortable and clean. The bartender was our server. I forgot to get his name. He was wonderful though he had lots of great recommendations. We started with cocktails that were all delicious. They gave us complementary housemaid chips that were actually really good too. For our main courses, we ordered three of the special Wagyu steaks a chicken pot pie and I myself ordered three appetizers to create a meal. Everything tasted great, cooked to perfection, and our only complaint was the sides were a little small. They were barely shareable. The facilities are extremely clean, so that makes me super happy as I like a very neat and tidy and cleanly restaurant to dine at. I would go back, but I don't think anything stood out as I need to go back to eat that unfortunately. The service was extremely great and that actually makes up for the things that were a little lacking.

My husband and I came here on a Sunday evening with reservations at 5:45pm. The restaurant was surprisingly small but got pretty busy by the time we were done with our meal. Our server was really nice and had good suggestions on menu items. We ordered the tomahawk steak to share along with broccolini, mushroom skewers, crispy Yukon potatoes with caviar, beef tallow fries and mashed potatoes. The tomahawk with chimichurri sauce was great. It was cooked rare/medium rare, which is just how we like our steaks. The appetizers/sides were all tasty, but I expected the portions to be a bit bigger for the price. Our favorite appetizer was the crispy Yukon potatoes. The sauce with the caviar was really good. I would definitely order the tomahawk again. Just note that it takes 40 minutes to prepare, so we did have to wait a while before it came out. Since the place was on the smaller side, the tables were pretty close to each other. That didn't bother us though. Our neighbors were nice. I'd be back again and probably order less appetizers/sides and just go for the tomahawk. 4 stars because of the prices/sizes of the appetizers/sides.

I've come to expect Alameda to have great restaurants however Moxie just raised the bar a bit more!! Food was absolutely delicious! Steaks were cooked to perfection & the side dishes were so flavorful you could make a wonderful meal on them alone. Their cocktails too were fresh & balanced, mine had roses in the ice cubes. Can't wait to try their brunch next!!

Beet strawberry salad was so good. Very fresh for the palate.

Moxie is a small family owned business on the popular Park Ave strips of Alameda. It's cozy and perfect for an intimate dinner, although, it can be hard to hear at times since you are closer to other patrons. The food and wait staff are excellent. Waitress was friendly and responsive and the food was great! We started off with duck crostini that were just perfect. The meat was smoked and the toast just the right texture and then a fig(?) jam on top to finish it off. I couldn't get enough of the beet and strawberry salad. It was fresh and colorful, with some crunchy caramelized pecans and goat cheese. The wedge salad was loaded and met the craving of a good wedge. We shared a filet minion that was served with an herbed butter. Each bite was tender and buttery and rich. We also ordered the chive fritters which were a perfect addition to the meal, crunchy outside and tender inside. Lastly, we splurged with an ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce and toasted almonds. So good. What a meal! We're eager to come back and try the tomahawk steak.

This orange Julius style cocktail was SO pretty, delicious, and just boozy enough.

Adding to my existing reviews, because returning regularly has given me a window into the deep thought processes, warmth and collaboration of the staff and servers, and attention to detail of those who make the food. I feel very at home there, extremely welcome and well taken care of! Come by and check them out soon!

1640 Park St Alameda, CA 94501 "Moxie" is a fine dining steak house in downtown Alameda. I came here on a warm Saturday to meet up with a fellow Yelper and old grade school friend for an early dinner. I made reservations for 5pm. I was greeted as I walked in, and we were seated in the small dining area in front of the bar. The tables were set in a very organized manner, as they prepared for dinner service. I asked the server if there were any specials. She mentioned a "Grilled Salmon w/ Mashed Potatoes" for $25. But then she quickly reminded me that I'm in a steak house! My friend and I skipped the salads. I ordered Gulf Shrimp w/ Cocktail Sauce. My friend ordered a mini Lobster Roll. My Gulf Shrimp were large, plump, and tasty. However, the cocktail sauce was thin and barely made a difference as a dip. Also, there's no bread or rolls served with our meal. Note: After you order, a person comes to your table and removes unnecessary utensils and glassware. Also, if you drop crumbs, someone will come sweep your table with a brush. For main course, I ordered Lamb Chops w/ a side of Beef Tallow Fries. OMG, those Lamb Chops were absolutely delicious! Rich flavor, juicy meat, tender and easy to cut with a knife. For me, the presentation was okay because the lamb chops were stacked and covered the plate. However, my friend ordered a 6-oz Holstein Filet Mignon, and it looked tiny on the large platter. The sides are shareable, so you're supposed to take a serving and put if on your plate. My Beef Tallow Fries didn't stay crispy very long. I think they should serve thick steak fries instead. After we finished our meal, a staff person came and asked us how we liked our meal. I told her the honest truth. The sauce for the Gulf Shrimp was weak. The Beef Tallow Fries were dry and not crispy, and not worth $10. So on the bill, the fries were comp'd and we got 50%-off on the Gulf Shrimp. Thank you! We received tiny cookies with the bill. Notes: - the AC works in this place, and it can get chilly. - make a reservation, this place only seats 26 people. - If you make a reservation and no-show, you get charged $35 - extra charge for steak sauce Someday, I'll return to try their Prime Rib

Service was excellent and I love how the servers have all worked at this restaurant for a long time - staff retention is a rare thing these days. The burrata and prosciutto appetizer was very tasty and the beet salad was refreshing and healthy. We enjoyed the prosciutto pizza that had a nice truffle scent. The pastas were also excellent - we had the oxtail ravioli and the butternut squash agnolotti. The mixed seafood platter was very good and they added additional shrimp and scallops for us. The branzino and salmon were my favorite. Nice selection of cocktails, beer, and mocktails. The dessert menu has a nice variety. I've been here a couple times prior. We ordered a pizza for an appetizer to share in addition to our individual entrées of the spaghetti del trabocco, the lasagna, and the ravioli con coda. The pizza with the Italian sausage had a lightly spicy kick and the thin crust was perfectly crispy. The pizza was great. It was salty and savory without being overly heavy. All of our pasta entrées were delicious too. Good flavor and filling without leaving you feeling too stuffed. We had leftovers too. My favorite was the tiramisu that we shared. It was moist and lightly sweet and it helped end the meal on a great note! The restaurant can be a little loud if they're busy, but otherwise it has a great ambiance. Service was quiet but attentive, which made the whole experience feel effortless. The food was the real star. We started with the Brussels sprouts (light, crispy, and perfectly cooked), calamari (well‑seasoned and not heavy at all), and warm biscuits with whipped honey butter--so good. The clam chowder stole the show for us: poured tableside, rich but not heavy, and full of flavor. For entrées, the seafood pasta was fantastic, the lobster rigatoni was delicious (just wished for a bit more lobster), the ribeye was cooked perfectly, and the lamb--while tasty--could've used a touch more time. Overall, this place is an easy 5 stars. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, and memorable food. I'll definitely be back to try the dishes we couldn't get to.

I was surprised that I didn't have to hold the reservations with a credit card which was nice. We arrived a few minutes early and waited just a few minutes before our table was ready. As soon as we sat down the hostess asked if we needed any waters. Our waiter Jacob also came around right away to see if we wanted to order any drinks, we ordered the old fashioned, the Mai tai special, and margarita. Drinks came back pretty quick which was good. All the drinks tasted pretty good. For starters we ordered the calamari for the table, fruit salad, clam chowder, and a wedge salad. The calamari came out first, it was cooked perfect, had good flavor to it, the Brussel sprouts mixed with it was tasty, and the lemon sauce that came with it was refreshing. The clam chowder was excellent but it was more like a cup than a bowl. The wedge salad was okay, I've never had eggs in my wedge before, and it could use some better bacon bits or whatever it was for the bits of meat. The fruit salad was great. For our entrees we ordered the Ribeye, the Lamb chops, the Pork chop, the New York or Sirloin, and the Duck Breast. The good thing is that all of the entrees came with sides versus a la cart. The entrees came out after a while which wasn't too bad. It seemed like they only had one waiter taking orders for all the tables. Ribeye, Lamb Chops, Pork Chop Sirloin, and the Duck Breast were cooked perfect, med rare, and great flavor on all the meats. The ribeye was a little tough which was weird since it was cooked perfect., so I don't why that was. All the sides (cream spinach, mashed potatoes, corn, brussel sprouts) were very good. For dessert we shared the Strawberry Shortcake and the Churros. Two great desserts, fluffy bread, tasty strawberries, the sauce was perfect, the churros came out hot, nice crunch to them, and the flavor was great. Overall, a great place to have dinner. The restaurant has plenty of seating. We go all around the bay area and I believe prices are pretty high for drinks, soups, salads, and desserts. We didn't have any Italian food but looking at the menu, they could be just a tad high as well. Our waiter Jacob did a great job.

We walked in without a reservation and were seated quickly. There was plenty of seating outside and a few tables inside; we chose inside. The atmosphere was lively but never loud! Everyone around us looked genuinely happy to be there. Service was a standout. Our waiter was attentive, fast, kind, and offered great recommendations without being pushy. Exactly what you want. Food: We started with the Corn Fritters and the Smashed Potatoes, both scrumptious, but the Corn Fritters were exceptional. Both came out hot, fast, and in generous portions. For our mains, we shared the Fried Chicken Sando and the Three Little Pigs. The Chicken Sando was phenomenal! I have not stopped thinking about it. The bun was warm, buttery, and soft, and the chicken was perfectly moist. On the Three Little Pigs tray, the pork shoulder was the clear winner: moist, beautifully seasoned, with just the right amount of fat. Really well done. The one letdown: the sausages and ribs on the Three Little Pigs tray were unfortunately quite dry, which was disappointing given how strong the rest of the meal was. The BBQ sauce was just okay, and the accompanying green salsa wasn't our style. Our bill came to $112 before tip; two appetizers, two mains, and an Arnold Palmer, which felt completely fair for the quality and portion sizes. We left stuffed and with a ton of leftovers. We will absolutely be back. Thank you, Spinning Bones, for making a special night even more memorable.

I came here last night for a personal event. I told the owner that I was not going to do a review…read moretonight, but he actually stated for me to do one... so here it goes. For the event, we had reserved labels on our tables. The waiter took drink orders, then food orders. I came late and requested to be the last one to place a food and drink order because I did not want to hold the others up. The waiter forgot about me. He never returned. Fortunately, a waitress was bringing something over to a table buddy of mine and I was able to place my order with her. However, I ordered 2 drinks. One was supposed to come immediately after ordering and the other with my food. The waitress said she was going to try to plan the one with my food so it came out together. She forgot about my 1st drink until reminded almost 20 mins later. I ordered my food which was $17.50 sliders with a substitute of fries $2.. and add bacon $2. When my food came, it came with some sort of greens (Arugula salad..I think) and a side of fries. I don't understand why I got salad because I substituted it for fries. My fries came out first, which made no sense because I ordered my food together. However, upon tasting the fries.. they were cold in some parts..smh. I sent them back for hot fries. The sliders seemed overcooked because they were dry. I'm used to sliders being juicy and soft. My sliders were hard...smh. I did not bother to send them back because I was with many people and I really did not feel like going through the motions tonight..as I normally would have of my food order is just wrong. When the bill came, I noticed that they charged me $9 for a large fries. If it was only +2 to substitute... why did I get charge that? I went on and paid it without complaints. There were at least 4 ppl who ordered food before me and they still did not get their food and it was like an hour passing. I had 2 glasses of wine (Malbec & Blanc). Both were good. I loved the fact that they had karaoke. However, I disliked the fact that people who had gone once still went a 2nd time although there were plenty of people who still had not gone a 1st time. I think this place is chill. They need to do better with accomodating larger parties in both a timely manner and effectively ensuring food is correct, hot and cooked to perfection. I think they probably do best with a table of 4 or 5 ppl. Lastly, it was super hot in here. Yes there are ceiling fans. However, it seems that they have no central air whatsoever. That's ridiculous. Oh BTW.. no waiter ever came back to our table to ask if we wanted to order anything more. They also did not come over to ask if the food was good either. Our finshed plates say in front of us from the time we got it until almost 11pm. I would say that my table received food by 8:30ish.

She loved the whole clams in it plus the soup was the right consistency. Would order that again! We shared the ceasar and I love the boquerones although I would've loved the ceasar to have a bite of garlic and anchovies in their dressing. The dressing was creamy although it fell flat for me. Maybe next time, if they offer the stone fruit salad again, perhaps it was only available per season- I'll order that instead. We also tried their crab omelette which came with potatoes. We loved it because it was fresh. I appreciate the service and our server honored my request to serve avocado on the side as I have an allergy. My mom finished her freshly squeezed orange juice and she thought that was a nice touch. I've been here once before. I remembered they had a designated parking lot in the rear but by the time we arrived, the lot was full. We did find a space on the street. I'd return, come early and I'd like to try other things on the menu.

We started with apps, garlic toast with special Marinara, asparagus wrapped in Filo , beets sprinkled with feto. For dinner we shared the entrees family style which was a delight! Buscatini with chicken, eggplant and lamb, stipe bass with white sauce, palella with seafood. Bucatini and sauce was delicious. The chicken that topped it was a bit dry. Eggplant was good! The lamb was a bit gamey tasting. My son thought it was from New Zealand as their lamb taste is more prominent. Stripe bass with white sauce and veggies good! We wanted salmon but it was sold out. Palella was flavorful and enjoyable. Everything on this plate cooked just right! To continue the celebration we ate dessert! Crème brûlée, raspberry sorbet, chocolate crème. Delectable and hit the spot finish :-) Thank you Asena for capping off a beautiful day with tantalizing our tastebuds.

Do you know the way to Ballena Bay?…read more Pier 29 Restaurant is located in Alameda's Ballena Bay. It has an extensive seafood menu, full bar, soups, salads, and some chicken and steak. It has a view of the marina on one side, and a view of San Francisco bay on the other. It's away from the busy downtown traffic, and offers lots of free parking. I was treated to lunch there recently, to celebrate my retirement. For appetizers, we had Shrimp Cocktail and Fried Calamari. All the seafood was fresh. I then ordered the "Fish and Chips Combo" featuring fish and prawns. It consisted of two pieces of fried cod, and two fried prawns. The fish was fresh, and had a nice flavor. The prawns were crispy, and not greasy. There was a generous amount of crispy fries. The coleslaw on the side was dry and bland. Service was good. There were only two servers working, and it seemed the young lady was doing most of the work. But service was attentive, and she checked on our table a few times. Pier 29 is a large restaurant, probably capable of hosting large groups and events. It also has an outdoor patio. Can't find Ballena Bay? The entrance to Ballena Bay is 1 block east of Encinal High School, along Central Ave.
