Been here several times and overall, it's kind of lame. The bar's not set very high for local diners: simple staples served efficiently and you'll get 5 stars from me. But the service here is frequently slow - even when allowing for the expected longer wait when the place is busy - and there's typically something amiss with the food. No different today when we visited on Mothers Day: the place was busy but by no means full. We were seated immediately, but then it took 15 minutes for anyone to take a drinks order. Then another 15 minutes after that to take a food order. Then another 20 minutes for the food to show up. Overall, 50 minutes after seating to get something to eat. The eggs were overcooked, and one of the orders was incorrect and had to be sent back. But the waffles and bacon were good. Alamedans often laud local mom-and-pop businesses over chains; I think Jim's often benefits from this. But call it the way it is; Jim's On The Course is consistently lame. Just because it's on your doorstep and not called Denny's doesn't change that. read more

This place is great. Good breakfast / diner food with great service. Sit outside on a nice day and enjoy yourself. If you're looking for artistic decor, this is not the place. Much the same menu as the "real" Jim's [which old time regulars still call Jimmy the Greek's] although significantly less enormous selection. Portions still pretty close to the real Jim's, also enormous. The atmosphere is different, with outdoor tables in good weather and with one side of the room opening onto the sports bar with TVs and adult beverages. The service is as great as at the other Jim's as well. Much less crowded, which is a positive on busy weekends when there is often a wait for a table at the main Jim's, and sometimes a negative at quiet times when the lack of energy and crowds can make this place seem less homey than the other Jim's. The outdoor area is a Great place for dogs and their people to enjoy life together. read more

Have never written a Yelp review. This was the worst dining experience of my life. I probably shouldn't use the word "dining" since we never got our food. Waited half an hour to get seated, and only because we found a table ourselves. Then waited 45 minutes, and still didn't get served. This was for BREAKFAST! We walked out and went to La Pinata, got served right away. Later, called the owner of Jim's to vent, left a message, never heard back. Total lack of service and management control, top to bottom. This use to be called Legends & Heroes Sports Bar and Grill. But it's been Jim's for a over a year now. We've only been there once. But similiar menu as Jim's on the main island. Smaller menu. There are about maybe 15-20 tables. Just remember it's smaller than the old Jim's. But it's sooo nice not to wait on line for a weekend breakfast or lunch. Staff is nice. It's inside the Chuck Corica Golf Course. Mostly golfers there. No biggie. I'm not a golfer but I love Jim's breakfast'. read more

Four stars based on the criteria of: simple food (esp breakfast) in Alameda and convenience. Your basic choices in Alameda for this are: Tillies, Ole's, Jim's on Lincoln. These are the major players. Liked the easy parking. Friendly service, food up to par. Nothing fancy, better than going to Linguini, McGees, etc if you just want to grab a quick bite and don't want to deal with Park St. parking. So Jim's on the Course gets four stars because: easy parking, close by, friendly, efficient service, decent food. It ain't Chez Panisse but for what they are there for, they're good. ANTS! ANTS! ANTS! GROSS! DISGUSTING! I live down the street and have come here for breakfast often. Last Sunday I was her with my kids and there were ants on the floor and on my daughters plate. Came here for mother's day lunch with my parents and sister. We expected the place to be full with a wait. It was almost full but we were seated immediately. Service was wonderful. Very friendly, attentive, and made my mom feel special. Food did not take too long and everyone was satisfied with what they ordered (BLT sandwhich and roast beef sandwhich). I shared the chicken and waffles with my sister. I prefer my waffle to be a bit more crispy, but it still tasted good. Jim's has a diner-ish, clubhouse kind of feel. There's also a bar in the back with flat screens playing the game and a separate cafe with a different menu on the right. Lots of outside seating as well, which is great for when there's a beautiful day out. Parking is plentiful as well. read more

In Bay Farm, there isn't much selection. It's either here or La Penca Azul for breakfast. The food here is okay. It's not something to rave about, but it's not bad either. Standard American breakfast fare. The prices have gone up recently, but so has prices everywhere else. So it's not a cheap place anymore for breakfast. The best thing about this place is their service. They always have friendly staff who ask if I want anything else every so often. Whenever I take my kids here my kids love it because it is an outing and not dad's standard egg, cereal and milk breakfast. I usually get the 3 egg breakfast with the hash browns. The hash browns are different than other breakfast places in that it is big potato chunks. I like it that way and this is what I look forward to at Jim's. However, there was one time that I got hash browns that were either overdone or not fresh. It was hard. I told them about it and they were kind enough to replace it (service is great here). Other times, I go for the omelettes and they are decent here. The Belgium Waffles are decent too, but a little too sweet for me and I usually like sweet things. I think the food at the Jim's on Lincoln is slightly better than this location (IMHO). The decor is just standard diner style. Not anything fancy. Great place to come after a game of golf, since it's right on the golf course. Or if you want to meet up with a bunch of friends for breakfast as there is always lot of seating available. read more

Wow, I always thought I was missing out on something by never having been here. I've heard lots of friends and acquaintances talk about going there and never heard anything but good things. As a matter of fact, on our first visit we saw four other families we knew. I took my kids for Saturday brunch, and we sat outside as it was a beautiful day. I was anticipating a great experience as we sat there under our umbrella in the fresh air. Two guys with dogs sat at a table right next to ours and the server brought water bowls for both dogs and I was totally impressed that they'd think of a detail like that. But then we got our food..... I had sirloin steak and fried eggs with hashbrowns. The steak tasted old, had no seasoning, and the hashbrowns were so oil slicked that I couldn't take a second bite. Yes, they got them crispy, but totally ruined them. It was 50/50 oil/potato, I'm not kidding. One of my kids got a tuna melt, which was funky tasting - tasted like they took tuna, mixed in mayo and SWEET pickle relish, a sugary fishy funky sandwich, also too greasy. Another kid had the sirloin steak in a sandwich. Again, unseasoned, old tasting steak. Kid #3 had a Belgian waffle, which he didn't like because it was too sweet before he even put syrup on it. Based on the food, I'd give "0" stars, but the service was great and the setting was lovely. Bad food is a total deal breaker, I won't return. Maybe I'm just an Ole's person. read more

The dining experience was absolutely wonderful. The staff was attentive and made sure that everything was up to your satisfaction. I did have one issue with my order, and without a fuss the waiter took it back, had the issue resolved and brought my meal back the way I ordered it. I go to Jim's a lot and it use to have great service but I have been noticing the service is getting worse every time I go. Today was the worst. I sit down in the bar area an older waitress asks if I want something to drink I order coffee and it never comes I order it again from someone else and it never comes. I order a third time from the bartender and it's there then I order breakfast when it comes I still dont have any utensils to eat with I look around to ask for some and just get ignored while the waitress is just leaning on the bar chatting with the bartender who is busy making drinks. The waitress looks at me and and then turns around and keeps talking. I'm trying to ask someone else for something to use to eat my food and they wont respond. Finally I just get up pay for my food i couldn't eat unless i wanted to use my hands. And left. I will not be going back the new staff they have working there should all be fired. I'd rather drive across town to the other jims where the staff cares about its customers read more

A go-to place for a hearty Sunday breakfast. Great omelets, large portions, decent prices. Ambiance leaves quite a bit to be desired. Definitely needs a new carpet, etc. When it's warm enough in the spring/summer, I'll likely move to the outside tables for a change. They are great about making substitutions, which helps because of dietary restrictions. read more

Came here on Mother's Day for lunch, and never again! This place cannot handle crowds at all. We arrived after 1pm, thinking the crowds would be gone. There were not a lot of people, but it still took half an hour or longer to seat us. Friends we met there told us they waited 90 min from 11:30 to get seated. Once seated, the wait staff didn't bring menu and water. When we finally got to place our order, they told us the kitchen would take longer to have food ready. "Is that ok?", they asked. What are we supposed to say? "No." And walk out? Food was not bad. It's just the inefficiency of running a restaurant that they need to improve on. Let's hope they will do that, because it actually has a nice surrounding right at the golf course. read more

We are once a week regulars here. We live on Bay Farm Island so this is our easy eating out option. The food is good. Not gourmet or exceptional (I wouldn't expect that for the price or the atmosphere), but they are consistently good. The service is friendly. Prices are fair. Things we love about Jim's on the Course... patio seating (we only sit on the patio when we eat here), easy parking, breakfast anytime, the kid menu for my son, and a good beer selection (Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Racer 5, etc.). read more

If you call it a Cesaer salad the Cesaer dressing is implied; crappy policy. I come here a couple times a month with my in-laws: very erratic service and quality. When you good; you're fine. Went back not once, but four times because of the food, but will never go back again. The dining area is dirty, the ladies room is dirty and the walls are dirty. The service is poor. Last time we had to practically beg to pay our tab while staff argued who's turn it was to take our money. If you have the ability to ignore these things you will probably have a decent meal. I can't get over what the kitchen must look like. Too scary for us to try again. It's a good thing they cater to mostly male golfers or they may find themselves OOB. read more

I know Jim's is known for their breakfast and I will go anytime to have breakfast there. But, this was my first visit to Jim's on the Course and I came for dinner, big mistake. I had the Greek Salad and this salad was not fit for pigs. The lettuce was awlful, I think it was at least 5 days old. The olives were mushy, there was nothing crispy about this salad, should have been thrown away and not served to a customer. I also had the fried calamari, or should I say frozen calamari, too bready and not good to eat. I will never return to this restaurant again, I will continue to go to Jim's on Lincoln. read more

I've been a frequent patron at Jim's on the main island of Alameda, and I've always enjoyed their large portions, friendly service, acceptable taste, and ESPECIALLY, their free refills on coffee and hot chocolate. However, a few days earlier, I paid the Jim's on the Course a visit because my family wanted to meet up for brunch, and I found the service nearly unacceptable. Our server, Maggie, served us with a "cold indifference" as my cousin called it, but only two tables away, she was basically kissing *** to a white lady. I don't usually accuse people of treating me with racial injustice, but there definitely seemed to be a correlation to the fact the other lady was a white lady, while my family is (obviously) of Asian descent. While serving us, Maggie constantly rolled her eyes, and when I asked for a refill on my hot chocolate, she promptly refused. I left dissatisfied and offended, but out of generosity, I left a plentiful tip. In short, Maggie proved herself to be an unfriendly server and did a poor job of reflecting the attributes of this good, homestyle, restaurant. read more

Since my review on 6/13/10 I am happy to say the management got rid of the 2 bartenders that drove me out of the place. It is back to service with a smile. The new crew is great! The food has always been A-OK. The bathrooms could still use some regular attention. First of all,I want to say that Jim's Diner is one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda. I decided to order breakfast at their sister restaurant Jim's on the course. When Uber delivered my food I was missing my beverage, food was terrible! I ordered the country fried steak and eggs, gravy tasted funny, soggy chicken fried steak, everything tasted like they didn't clean their grill from the previous shift, food was also cold. Meh....the food is ok. It's close to me...and usually the wait for a table isn't too bad on weekends....usually. We go to Jim's about once a week on Sundays. As I read the first page of reviews on Yelp, it seems that service is an issue. Rightly so. It took quite a while for them to seat us. In fact, some people came in after us were seated before us, but another table had opened up, so we took that one practically at the same time. I wished I had timed how long it took to have our order taken. We were talking and I didn't notice. But, the time it took for us to get our food was unacceptable. The people who came in after us were already leaving! We hadn't gotten our food yet! I asked the server what the problem was. Guess the kitchen had new cooks...regardless...waiting almost an hour for food is bad. Most orders come with 3 eggs, but I got 2 and 1/16. Seemed the yolk broke and a little was left so the cook counted that as an egg. On what planet?? Usually, ends of the bread loaf are tossed or used for something else. Nope, not here. It wasn't actually and end piece, but was tiny, cut in half. To be fair, when I alerted our server to the egg and bread problem, she quickly corrected them and the manager came over and apologized for the wait. They did make a correction to the bill, taking off about 30%. I'm not going to make public how I was disrespected by one of the owners or co owners. I'm going to have a face to face with this man and give him an education on restaurant customer service 101. His actions weren't intentional, but ignorant. So, to be continued...... read more

We have started coming here when we come up from So Cal to visit family. The food is always good, no wait for a table, and a great view of the golf course. The last time we were there in Oct 08 my sister and I tried their chile verde omelette. It was great! It was a special at the time and I hope it makes it on to the regular menu. I'm not trying to being mean but this place went straight down hill. I've been coming here since I was young. my sister and brother worked here 15 years ago. This place used to be our favorite spot but this will be the LAST time I will ever come here. Our server was HORRIBLE, we went up to give our order because no one came to our table but she walk us over to our table to take our order and proceeds to simply ask us... "what do you want?" RUDE!!! No one ever came over to our table to check on us, coffee were COLD, toasts were BURNT, we nicely asked for a new cup of coffee and less burnt toast and they brought out barely toasted bread... wtf! Just because I don't want blackened bread you bring out barely toasted bread just to spite us!?! Food also looked and tasted HORRIBLE. I'm so angry with this visit but also so sad that i won't be coming back because it was our childhood go - to place. You guys suck! read more
