This was recommended to my breakfast/brunch group from a local coworker. I did like the original pitch of a nice sized restaurant with a big outdoor patio, right on a golf course with a big breakfast/lunch menu with a full bar. That is usually a winner combo and this place did indeed have all those components working for them, but not at a stellar level that you'd come to expect from that package. Okay their patio is quite nice, much bigger than anything you'd really see anywhere in the Bay Area. That's because they are subleasing from a golf course so there is some decent real estate for them to utilize. Very nice heavy cast iron tables and chairs which I'm sure serves it's purpose due to being exposed to a very open part of the bay area, so wind and weather will play a major role in your out here. The patio is set atop some nice pavers with ample spacing from table to table. Views of the golf course can be had, but honestly since this is a links style course so it isn't one of those pretty manicured and landscaped courses. If you've ever seen a British Open match, this looks real similar with just grass from all lenghths rolling from one view to the next. You'll also see lots of airplanes from all sizes gliding above as this place is just a couple of miles from Oakland International. The service was just meh for us. The service was efficient but seemed more like an efficient transaction than a hospitality occasion. It seemed like the server didn't want to go back and forth out to the patio, so ya better get everything worked out in 1-2 appearances. The busser was the nicest and I have a feeling if a table needed a bit more attention, then the busser would have to be your outlet. Food was just meh to me. Indeed a huge breakfast menu, nobody will get left out. Bennies, eggs, brekkie meats of choice, pancakes, waffles and drinks. If ya want anything substantial then things will start at about $15 and go to about $25. I actually found their non-call drinks to be the super bargain of the morning as none were over $10, more like $8ish. That will probably be my main draw here as a 2 drink morning chat with some friends, with a little food to go with, is more than enough for me to swing back. Bloody Mary ($8ish/4*) Not bad, on the thicker end of the spectrum with a heavy dose of horseradish. A little heavy handed for me as it was starting to remind me of cocktail sauce, like I wanted it with some shrimps or oysters. Lol. And ya just cannot beat that price. Irish Coffee ($8ish/4.5*) Requested no sugar as the whiskey and cream adds plenty of sweetness for me. Solid rendition as I don't need this to be that elevated or played with for me to enjoy one. Simple and basic just the way I like it. Lox and Scallion Omelet ($18ish/3*) This was decent but not crave worthy. It was a nice sized omelet, ain't complaining about their portion sizes, they deliver and won't leave you hungry. The eggs were nicely cooked and rolled, not too dark, as I hate very browned and well done scrambled eggs. I was almost going to request to have the eggs done very lightly even a tad wet even (Euro style) but I didn't want to get too involved for my first out. There were indeed noticeable bites of salmon/lox but it seemed to have been cooked or scrambled to where it was all just in shredded bits. For some reason when I saw the word 'lox' I was thinking something more premium, silky even rawish/cold smoked in texture. Nope this was fully cooked smoked salmon. It still was the star of the dish and didn't leave you hanging, just an expectation thing for me. Then the cheese was just coldish shredded cheddar on top. I didn't get this as most omelets I see, the cheese is somewhat melted either inside or atop the omelet. Cheese still tasted good with eggs but it just made the presentation look really messy and amatuerish. The home fries were alright, just wanted some crispness to it. It was just seasoned cubes of potatoes. If ya want something crisp, get their hashbrowns, as the ones on my friend's plates looked quite ideal. I'll also have to note that if you do sit on their patio, then be prepared to deal with very aggresive and brash birds of all types from the little brown ones the size of a mouse to large crows. Now the crows will not land on an occupied table, but once the table clears, they will have no problem to cash in on any scraps left on a table. The smaller birds WILL land on your table occupied and was cute at first, but as you are eating you're having to swat them away like flies. Never seen this before, as these local birds are very conditioned to humans are willing to interact with them closely, like inches close. So yeah, mixed bag for me but I'm sure we may be back as it is a convenient location for our group. Not everything hit, but nothing really also as a deal breaker. read more

Got a the job done but the weekend service is too slow. Had I not said something, I'm not sure how long it would have taken to get their attention. Keep in mind, we were the ONLY ones seated in the dining area and after 10 minutes I got up and said something. But once you get their attention, they're reliable. Still not the fastest service, but barely doable. Had the salmon Benedict. Didn't taste great but wasn't bad either. My first time here. Never knew there was a place to eat. There's outdoor and indoor seating. I went to breakfast at 8am and the parking lot was getting full due to people checking in to play golf. I ordered the Jim Breakfast sandwich and it comes with ham, bacon or sausage and your choice for a side of hash browns, country fried potatoes or fresh fruit. They serve breakfast like pancakes, French toast, and omelettes. I also noticed a lunch menu too with sandwiches and more. They have a variety of drinks and I saw mimosas and Bloody Mary on the list of drinks for breakfast. The staff is so nice and friendly. You know what I love? Being able to eat a solid meal at a golf course before or after a round. I'm not talking about snack stand over-priced golf course stuff. I'm talking about a real meal. Jim's is like having a Diner on the patio of a terrific Golf Complex and I would happily make a return visit anytime someone wanted to play Corica. Chuck Corica Golf Course is on the North End of Bay Farm Island, just south of Alameda. It's a fairly big set up - Two 18's, a 9 and a big Range. Being on the far side of The Bay, the weather feels a little warmer than over in The City. Jim's has a location in The Mission. I've never been, but it looks like about as ripped out of the 60's/70's a diner as you can get. The food is a range of Breakfast, Sandwiches and other fare. The do have Beer on Tap. Given the huge patio area outside, it was terrific to have a Turkey Club and Beer and enjoy the afternoon. The prices were pretty reasonable. I'd also say that the Fries were pretty good. This was a draw to the course in my opinion. I'd plan this into my next visit. read more

Came here yesterday with the hubby for some brunch and man was this place packed. Definitely something to keep in mind if you want to come here in the morning on Sunday. Good news is you can sit at the bar and it's really nice and much quieter over there. They also have outside seating as an option also. My husband enjoyed his omelette with his Bloody Mary but he said it was not spicy at all when he said he wanted it that way. My tuna melt was pretty good but they put way too much tuna on the sandwich that it was falling out of it which kinda killed it. What a fantastic find. My Uncle brought me here for the first time. You would not think a cafe at a golf course would be that good. The plates of food or a good size and a great value. My first visit to Jim's was after an early morning round of golf at Metropolitan. My friends and I sat outside under an umbrella. Service was a little slow but all the tables were nicely spread out as part of the COVID protocols which I appreciated. I ordered a two egg scramble with hash brown (no salt), wheat bread and a side of fruit. I forgot what my friends ordered but when the food arrived it was huge. I could not believe that my scramble was actually two eggs. Overall the meal was very good. As I mentioned it took about 20 minutes after finishing our meal before someone checked on us. The other thing was the small side of fruit was $4.99. That was outrageous. I think Jim's should rethink the pricing though the other dishes seemed OK for post-pandemic pricing. I would probably visit Jim's again but not frequently. read more

This morning I had breakfast with a client. I noticed that two tables had large parties. Maggie was the only waitress and there were no busboys to either clear the tables or help with the beverages. After we got our food, we signaled Maggie to refill our coffee.....she apparently nodded, but never got around to refilling our coffee. We then finally saw the owners son and he acknowledged us and came to refill our coffee. So here's my point.....how can management expect only to have "one" waitress to wait on all those tables, yet also bus all the tables and set up and bring all the beverages and refill as needed and bring the check? Again, there were no busboys at all and just the one waitress and the waitress was also expected to work the bar. Why couldn't the owner's son step up to the plate and pitch in to do whatever needed to be done? I did see him in the back making coffee, but he seemingly was talking to two friends and seemingly didn't care what was going on in the main dining room. Cutting back in staff the way they did is not acceptable and the service sucked so bad, big time. Does management think they can save a few dollars in overhead by not staffing up to accommodate the crowd that happens to come in? Is Jim's doing that bad, that customers think their service can suck the way people were treated today? I have seen Jim's so busy, literally almost full both inside and out and waiters and waitresses and bus persons galore, but what, the people that may come for breakfast have to suffer with the service that sucks so bad! Trust me, Jim's had plenty of business today....actually too much for the one waitress! Jim's will be sorry when these customers don't show up for lunch and/or breakfast in the future. I personally will cut back patronizing Jim's due to all of the above. Sorry, time to look for another place! read more

This was our 3rd visit to JOTC for brunch on the weekend. The last 2 times were enjoyable, but this past Sunday, 4/16 we arrived at 10:30a and opted for outdoor seating like we normally do. We were sorely disappointed in the quality of the food and lack of service. The busboys were very apologetic for our experience, not like they could do anything though. Here's why I only gave 1 star...we sat down for 25 minutes (apparently there was confusion as to who our server was gonna be) before we received our menus and another 15 minutes before they took our order and another 35 minutes for mediocre food. My husband and I was ready to just get up and leave since it was taking so long and the lack of service. Please hire more experienced staff (servers, cooks). There's so many better breakfast/brunch places that we will be patroning until you get your act together. It was very disappointing b/c the last 2 of 3 visits was nothing like this. What we ordered: - crab cake benedict - ** 1 of the 2 egg was over cooked and was not runny like how I like it - country omelette - * it more like a messy scrambled. - kid's pancakes - we had 2 orders, 1 for each kid and it was inconsistent in size; my son's mickey pancakes were much bigger than my daughter's. Worst experience ever! My wife and I came here for breakfast this morning. My wife ordered a California omelette and I ordered the New York strip steak and eggs. My wife's omelette had hard, melted cheese on it, which was very bland. I ordered my new York Street medium rare, and it came out well done very tough not seasoned at all. The service was unbelievably bad. After our food came a waitress, never even came to check up on us. And it took 20 minutes for us to get the check. Visited Jim's twice now and will definitely go back. This last time, we went with family on a Sunday. There was plenty of seating and we chose to sit outside. Both times we went the service has always been pretty fast and they stay attentive. It is nice, feels like the host is always checking on us to see if we need anything and that gives it a homely feel. The food portions are pretty generous. My brother in law ordered Jim's super burger and it was as HUGE! It came on a French role and I think I could've made it into two meals. Been to the other Jim's restaurant but because of the outdoor seating, we like going to Jim's on the course. It is nice to also see they can take large groups. So I read all the comments here before trying this place out. I was prepared for a wait and maybe not so great service. But my husband and I really enjoyed this place! Not sure if we just got lucky, or you all are crazy, but I'm a fan. We got there on a Sunday about 10am, no wait. Very polite staff let us pick a table outside. Loved the outdoor patio and views of the golf course. We put in a drink order right away, and then placed our food order. That came out quickly, looked and tasted great. Our server Ellah checked on us regularly and took really good care of us. All of the staff were really nice, we could see/hear them interact with other guests. Seemed to be a lot of regulars. I love their contactless payment option, makes it a lot easier to check out. I am thrilled to have found this hidden gem so close to home. Can't wait to check out more of their menu. I like going to Jims on the course for breakfast or lunch! Service is pretty fast when they're not busy. The only complaint is I ordered the Denver omelet. I'm pretty sure it was Denver. Regardless, the cheese on top of the omelette was moldy. Omelette didn't look very appealing to consume. Notified the server and a new omelette was made. Mediocre at best. Ordered classic eggs benedict with home fried potatoes (crispy) and a side of bacon (crispy). To start on a positive note, the bacon came good and crispy as order. Four healthy piece nice and thick. The potatoes I received were curly fries, so they went back and when the home fried potatoes came, they were soft, mushy and NOT crispy as requested and not really even hot. They seemed as if they were under a heat lamp or off to the side of the griddle for a while. As for the eggs benny, the hollandaise sauce was flavorful and had a great think consistency, but it was luck warm at best. The poached eggs were grossly under done. So much so, that when I broke open the yolk and it mixed with the egg it was inedible. It was just too slimmy with the uncooked egg white. I ate around the pool of slimmy yolk/white mixture to the best of my ability... So, the big question I always ask myself, "in the end, would I go back?" The answer here is, "no." Jim, Jim, Jim My compliments. I don't even golf, but I end up at your place pretty often. I guess it's because your conveniently located in bay farm and there really aren't that many places around here. It's either you, La Penca Azul, or that Harbor Bay Chinese place. It's also because you have lot of seating available and rarely busy. It's a great place to gather with a large group of friends especially for brunch. Come to think of it, I've only visited you for brunch/lunch. Your food isn't going to win any awards, but hey it's solid enough for me and I love the large selection. And the quantity? Wow, it's always bigger than I remembered. Always a good surprise! My favorites are the country friend steak (w/ eggs & fries!), french toasts (8 pieces please!), and the scramble plates (go chorizo!). I can always be confident in getting a solid meal here. Your service is also excellent. Always checked upon, good stuff. You have a couple TVs playing sports for those who want it, a nice view of the course on the other. Sometimes this place is good, sometimes its not so good. I still feel like Jim's on main island tastes better but this place is on a golf course so I can place golf afterwards :) On this day, the bacon was not very crispy and seemed kind of dry. The hash browns were OK. I like how the toast is buttered. From what I remember the waffles were not as good as the pancakes. I am so fortunate to live within walking distance of this great restaurant! The food and service are fantastic and they are super child friendly. As a bonus, the outdoor dining view looks out to the golf course and makes you feel like you're vacationing at a resort. So far I have tried the avocado club sandwich, crabcakes, and the cobb salad. Hefty portions of good food. The scene stealer is their potato salad - there's some magic powder in that stuff cuz it tastes so good. And the side of fruit is generously sized too. My kid devoured her entire plate of french toast, so I'm guessing it was pretty good as well. We love going here for weekend brunches. Great parking too. read more
